Sewing a fur coat! Faux Fur Sewing Tips

I am sharing my review of Burda 12/2011 #113. A fun collarless fur jacket. I'm including some faux fur sewing tips that I picked up along the way from various resources. This jacket is part of my #2019makenine challenge garments.

Faux Fur Tips Summary:
1. Cut fur side down.
2. Cut in a single layer.
3. Make sure nap of fabric is going downward before cutting.
4. Only cut the backing of the fur not the pile.
5. Use an 80 Needle (soft backing) or 90 Needle (stiff backing).
9. Cut with short snips with scissors (short pile) or razor (long pile).
10. Use binder/wonder clips to hold fabric together while sewing.
11. Use a bobby pin or darning needle to remove fur from seam line if it gets stuck.
12. Use low heat and pressing cloth as well as a needle board if you have one.

Crystal, you are one of my favorite vloggers that I look for every week. Your creations are beautiful! I must say that this faux fur jacket is another winner. The simplicity of this style gives this jacket an elegant look. Perfect for wearing with jeans. I made the Mccalls 7847 jacket that you mentioned in your vlog last winter in a plum color faux fur. Stunning jacket Crystal! I love everything about it! and thank you so much for the tips on cutting out too! A few years ago, I made something out of faux fur too and OMG! fur was flying every where!!! I sure could have used your tip then (before UA-cam was popular to me!)
