  • I've experimented around pseudo-generative melodies thanks to parameters locks and the probabilistics trigger steps with chance function. Listen with headphones recommended to feel subharmonics.

    There are a lot of machines costing twice what the M:C does....Some of which can do half as much. Nice work. ❤🤙

      Thx for listen. While I consider each machine has weakness and strengths, I agree Cycles is a little machine in a entry level offers too much if we compare with the other alternatives in the same level. Reminds me a kind of Machinedrum lite in some way :)

      @@nokulture The Cycles is such a joy to work on..the hours just pass very quickly. I'm considering going to elektron for some other pieces. I remember wanting the SidStation when it came out. never got my hands on one though. Nearly bought the MonoMachine when it did... Never had any Elektron stuff until the Cycles. Don't know why I waited so long. I was working on a Nord Mod G2 for several years.

      @@DetroitMicroSound Well, I'm a fan of elektron stuff, and I like almost their machines, so it's difficult for me telling something in other direction :)
      If you like the workflow, and you wouldn't spend so much, the Digis are fantastic machines: Digitakt is more than a simple drum machine, and Digitone is a friendly and deep synth FM. The workflow of both Digis are deeper and less fast than models, but pretty immediate compared the big ones.

      Thanks! In fact, just I'm experimenting around one scale... I don't remember which one I've used, but the point is that. You choose one scale: E phrygian, for example, and you make a line melody on that scale, after that you make the another melody in the same scale. In my video I think I've transpose the first melody on second line... maybe I've make some changes too in second one, I don't remember... but that is the point, testing and keep wich it works.

    would you mind breaking down how you've done this? I still can't get my head around the conditional triggers, this sounds awesome btw!

    • @nokulture
      @nokulture  3 роки тому +23

      Hi! Sure, it's pretty simple. There are two tracks with the melody, first one is filled with notes in all steps and random percent of trigger probability. The second one is a modified melody from the first one, but transpose 1 oct. In the second one the trigger condition is set to "not neighbour". That means when the first melody don't trigger a note cause probability, the second one note melody will trigger. That makes an evolving and changing melody only in 16 steps. And that is ;)

    This is sick.
    Is this all sounds n samples that come built in? I’m looking to buy a model:samples, but this has my brain ticking! Will still probably go for a samples first, and get one of these down the line once I’ve learnt the samples inside and out.
    Can anybody on here that owns one or both give me any pros and cons to each of the two, and explain which is good at what, and not so good at? & which is easiest to sync with a tr8.
    Really liking some of the sounds you have going on here. Cheers.
    x

    • @nokulture
      @nokulture  3 роки тому

      Thanks for listening!
      No samples there, all sounds come from internal synth engine.
      The main diferent is for model:samples you need to feed it with samples. With model:cycles you designs the sounds, but there are patches to feed it too outthere. I guess if you like design sounds model:cycles is for you, but if you like chop samples and play it with, it's model:samples your choice.
      I haven't got model:samples, but I guess the sync with other machines is similar in two machines.

      @@nokulture hey man. Cheers for the quick reply! Your stuff is wicked!
      Yeah it’s really annoying that there is no big music store anywhere near me so I can’t try anything out before hand, so I just need to make up my mind, and take the gamble. I know I’ll enjoy either one, I just don’t know what will be a bigger edition to my set up. I’ll probably go for the samples tbh but I’m guna watch loads of videos of both, and take some time to decide.
      Cheers buddy. Keep up the good jams. Xx

    • @nokulture
      @nokulture  3 роки тому +1

      @@h-dawg969 I understand, maybe it's a good deal for you to go for model:samples first, you'll get a wide palette of sounds with it. Maybe later go to model:cycles if you'd like to dive into the sound design area. In fact, if you'll keep tr8, it has more sense go for samples.
      Anyway, you should make the question on elektronauts, the elektron community forum, they (we) are cool! :D

    pseudo generative means what?

    • @nokulture
      @nokulture  2 роки тому

      Hi! It means not pure generative.

    • @DJ-Lazy-Lodger
      @DJ-Lazy-Lodger 2 роки тому

      @@nokulture yeah not pure generative as if generating it half by accident?

    • @nokulture
      @nokulture  2 роки тому

      Imho, generative is a whole system generated at random. In this case I've started from a previously programmed melody, which triggers at random. Instead pure random melody like a pure generative system. And I speak only about the melody section, it would be the same for the other sections: bass, drums...
      Maybe just a kind of purist distinction or whatever in that direction... ;)
