    One minor but slightly important point that you don't mention is that you only have 20 seconds after opening it like this before the alarm goes off... Have to start the ignition within this time to cancel it. I (and the neighbours) found this put the hard way at 6.45 this morning 😅

    When my transit battery's failed in winter I had to insert the key in the lock and twist to open
    What an embarrassment
    Don't mind hooking up the start and boost charge for 1/2 hour for all the sad neighbours watch my down fall
    Using a key in a lock in this day and age... The shame of it

    When I first drove a mk4 I had to phone a friend to find reverse ! Some makes of cars can take half an hour to find the button for the fuel filler door ! Cars can have extras you dont discover for years ! A Toyota Avensis came with a sat nav disc it was 3 months before I discovered it went under the passenger seat !

    Hey you need it not only in case of key battery is completely out, but also if car battery is completely out. Then also you have to open doors manually with physical key, no other way.

    Omg, it's not only educational, but so theatrical! Well done, many thanks!!! Btw, I once had an S-Max battery completely flat due to broken car radio that drained it all the way. Luckily, the keyhole to open the door is not concealed there, like on Mk5 Mondeos. So the inability to open the car with the button is not such a rare event at all! Also my friends once had a flat battery on an A-Class Mercedes. There, the battery is located in the cabin and the mechanical keyholes don't work when the battery is flat. So it was a whole adventure to get that car open.

    The fob with the hidden key has a fingernail release on the side with the Ford logo, push it towards the keyring to open it. If you need to change the batterys in it then with it open, insert a 1p coin into the slot at the far end from the ring and twist it to start it opening.

    Failing that try a brick and then give autoglass a call.

    What about when you have a flat battery. The door lock system still needs power to unlock the door.

      Do what he says in the video and climb over seats to undo bonnet and figure out why the engine won’t turn over… I’m thinking of pushing mine to a garage for them to charge up battery…

    Hi Alan..Many thanks for previous assistance with tailgate handle...and all your excellent videos..
    For a bonus point here...do you happen to know where the sounder is for the reversing sensors (mk5 Mondeo).. It's so loud, and I'm fed up with seeing my passengers with their hands over their ears!.. I need to stick something over it....Thank you in advance..JR.. Bristol

    I bought a new to me Fusion (same car as this generation of Mondeo) a month ago and quickly noticed that unlike my older Mustang that also has remote locking/unlocking, this car had no key slot for those times when I chose (or was forced) to " manually " unlock the doors. I did see that the driver's door had the " lock " figure/diagram(?) embossed on the trailing end of the door handle. On my car, either the cover over this lock opening was poorly attached when the car was built...or it has been removed at least once, already.
    Finally, I am left handed, tho my car is left hand drive, so slightly different than the situation in the video...though I chuckled at the demonstration of how this is another operation not designed with left-handed people in mind.
    HOWEVER...as much as I am enjoying these videos, enough that I became a subscriber (they are entertaining AND useful), I did not appreciate being called " CACK-HANDED ".

    Hi Alan, quick question off subject you might know been used to the mK5 mondeo,
    I have a 2015 model which a camper van decided to hug the two passenger doors, I have to replace the two doors which I have found the same color off a 2018 model...now here’s the thing will the 2018 doors fit the 2015..I thought you might have a idea with the amount of mK5 you have and range of years from 2015 up.. ford told me the doors oem number changed 2016 onwards so they say they’re different doors but I can’t see how they would be...any wisdom you have would be much appreciated..thanks fella and keep up the videos

I have a focus 1.8 tdci 2006 year bought it before 5 months i love ford cars have owned before but with this one not so happy. I havent managed to fix everything but i need an opinion from you because here in Albania is so difficult to find good car mechanics. When my car is warm and i turn ingition off if i try to restart sometimes long crank sometimes start right away. No error codes under the diagnose nothing. Have asked so many mechanics everyone explain different things. Sorry for the long explanation and thank you.

    Alan can you shed some light on why my mk4 Mondeo exterior handle seems to stick, like you have to give it a second pull for it to open? Am a taxi driver so sure you've come across this?

      the first thing i would do is spray some wd 40 into the door latch which most times cures what you have

    Alan, i have a question for you about a video you made a few years back. I have just bought a Ford Focus mk 2 2008 and i have just gone to go get the cambelt sorted on it, i was looking at the belt and wondered why it was so small and so cheap, a little bit of research showed that it also had a wet belt inside the engine as apposed to a chain, this for me was a massive blow because i cannot understand why Ford would be so stupid to swap a chain for a belt that can snap at any time. Now unfortunately for me i dont have a garage or workshop to do the car in, especially to hoist the engine out to work on the car, i am just wondering if it is possible to change this belt while the engine is still in the car? I have spoken to a garage i have used for years and they told me that in 30 years of being a garage he has never heard of a "wet belt" or has the tools to even attempt it. Now for me that just shows how much of a stupid design it was for a garage to turn down work I have spoken to ford and they have quoted me £725 for the whole kit to be replaced, both belts and all the gubins to go with it.

    • @lee46652
      @lee46652 5 років тому

      I wish i knew this before i bought the car put it that way, word or warning to anyone, if your looking for a car and don't have a great amount of money to spend on one, stay away from 1.8 tdci fords from the year 2008 to 2010 it will cost you way more than it is worth thanks to Ford trying to make the cars cheaper.

    • @alan4x
      @alan4x  5 років тому

      hi, yes it is very easy to replace the wet belt with the engine in the car.....the only reason i was showing the belt change with the engine out of the car was so i could get all the camera angles to film it clearly

    Did any of your drivers have issues with the MK4 and MK5 diesels killing the batteries when parked for just a few days?
    My car drops to around 12.2v over a week or so and then totally shuts down where the fob no longer works. Open the door and it starts fine and all works as normal. Better than some it seems where it just kills the battery dead, seems to be an ongoing issue that affects more than just the Mondeo.

    • @bormisha
      @bormisha 5 років тому +1

      I guess your car may have some electrical problems. Did you try measuring the standby current consumption? Just connect your battery through an ammeter, lock your car and wait for 15 minutes. The current should drop to some 10-20mA. If it is higher, there is a current leak. Pull your fuses until the current consumption drops, to figure out where exactly is the leak located. While doing this, don't open or close car doors as this would put the electronics out of standby.

    • @WhiteDieselShed
      @WhiteDieselShed 5 років тому

      It's a known fault with Diesel Mondeo's, Ford do not appear to have solved it 100%. Not a problem if you use the car daily but it's an issue if you park the car for several days at a time. Plenty of data on the net about it.
      Some say it's the bluetooth looking for a connection 24/7, some say the USB stays powered and others have found that the car talks to itself hours after its supposed to have shutdown. Not a single circuit though, appears to be many circuits. Luckily mine shutsdown before the battery is too low to start the car.

      Hi, don't know if this explains it.In the owners manual page 44.
      NOTE: When you leave your vehicle unattended for several weeks,the remote control turns off. Your vehicle must be unlocked and the engine started using the key. Unlocking and starting your vehicle once enables the remote control..
