Much love Hamilton! Appreciate you getting the word out for our survey, as you pointed out, the prohibitionist context around kratom skews the discussion away from objective, scientific facts and more towards fitting each side's politics. With luck, this survey will serve as a touchstone for conversations regarding kratom use going into the future.
    Hope everyone enjoys our chat!

Hmm. Im drinking my kratom everyday with the "slur" they were talking about.
I've done it for 4 years. I dont feel anything negative from doing that.
I feel more effect of the kratom when drinking the slur, than doing a tea and filter it. Much more effect.
Because some of the psychoactive chemicals in kratom, is not water soluble

@@vipr1142 I think there is a sense in which even a technical, scientific perspective can bury simple, obvious sense, at least in some people. (The forest and the trees, all that.) Kratom use only being allowed under the supervision of medical professionals... What? That's...dumb. And it translates to me as, "Here I am to take away your simple pleasures and freedoms. Except booze! You will still be allowed to drink yourself into an early grave." How about caffeine? Nicotine? Weed? Do we need the supervision of medical professionals with those? Where was Hamilton's philosophy of personal freedom, which he voices so loudly and clearly in his show? Was he intimidated by this guy's credentials? I'm disappointed. And so heartily sick of this stupid debate over this silly, innocuous tea shit.

Chronic pain patients have suffered more than anyone can possibly know due to the war on opioids. Even my 85 year old grandmother had her hydrocodone dosage cut in half by a new doctor which caused her to go into withdrawal symptoms, and this was 1 year prior to her dying from cancer, for fucks sake. The US tends to do absolutely nothing about problems until they are so insanely bad that they go crazy and swing all the way to the other side, so incredibly far in the opposite direction that it ends up harming more people than helping.

Most of the comments I read are positive, advocating for kratom. As a heavy kratom user for many years, I wanted to offer another perspective about my experience. Initially, kratom was a good thing for me after a lengthy car accident recovery, and getting back into the work force as an electrician by trade. There's no doubt it can have benefits in the short term, but there is a cost in the long run that most don't talk about, acknowledge, or are even aware of the gradual side effects that take place (partly because habitual use feels normal, and most don't take extended breaks to see how it makes them feel & if they can function without it). I've discovered most don't do that simply because they're dependent on it, which I have been multiple times over the last decade.
Depending on one's circumstance, it's a very easy substance to abuse, as it's very difficult to know exactly how much you're consuming and what other material might be present. Most long term users purchase it in bulk, and the testing / measuring processes used are usually lacking, or nonexistent. Because it's cheap, it's easy to simply build a tolerance and take more and more of it to get the desired effects. It's easy to sustain that habit of ingestion for a long time without crazy side effects, but eventually they do catch up with you.
There's a certain level of cognitive complacency that starts to take place. One can begin to feel like everything is okay, when it's not. Motivation to stay on top of life and keep progressing can take a huge hit. It did with me and several others I know. It can begin to make your hair fall out, and have skin issues. I honestly think it negatively impacts your natural immune system as well, and impacts your ability to heal quickly. It can act as appetite suppressant, almost like a supplement, and a substitute for a healthier diet. I know a lot of people end up using alcohol less, but I don't hear a lot about smoking habits. Nearly everyone I've ever met increased their cigarette consumption while taking kratom...as it did me. That obviously isn't a good thing.
If you're someone like myself, who works in construction, doing manual labor, it's easy for it to become a crutch. I know people who take it just to deal with mundane office jobs as well. There's no way you can take it to just get assistance with body pain, as it acts a mild mood enhancement as well. That's where the danger of abuse comes from. It takes significantly more of the substance to get that "feeling." I, for one, fell victim to that. Relying on it to "feel better" mentally only dismisses the root of the problems and potentially keeps you from engaging in other healthier options to optimize mood....like going to the gym for example. If/when you decide to mitigate that conundrum, you have stop taking it for awhile and if you're a heavy user, it's a pretty shitty withdrawal for a lot of people who've engaged in prolonged use. Body aches, cold/flu like symptoms, brutal RLS resulting in little-to-no sleep for the first few evenings. It's damn near impossible to do any physical work for several days, so you have to kind of plan it out ....unless it's a VERY gradual taper. It's
Make no mistake, it's not a benign substance, and works similarly to methadone as mu opioid antagonist. If you know anything about methadone, or those who've been on it for years, then you know how difficult it is to get off it, and the post acute withdrawal symptoms (PAWS) that can take place once you have. Getting off kratom often has side effects down the road not many acknowledge might be directly caused from its prolonged use. I've been through it multiple times, and it sucks. I've come off every opioid imaginable over the last 27 years, and in no way would I say kratom isn't comparable to the rest of them; both during use, and upon quitting. Sure, the risks are lower, but it's important to be honest about what it is, and what it can do.
I think it should be legal, but regulated in some form so it can be safely consumed. There are too many impurities in 50% of the imported kratom. There need to be standards, proper testing, education, and licenses required to sell it (like weed is here in Oregon). Yes, it needs to remain affordable, so I disagree with anyone who thinks it needs to be administered by medical professionals only. That's when it becomes no longer available to those without insurance. Here in the States, that'd be a very bad thing .....as we have one of worst, most expensive, least efficient health care systems in the developed world. Getting help is already difficult enough (look at the cost of methadone every month for an addict - if you don't know).
The system is broken, which why kratom is such a great option for so many. We're becoming more conscious about diet, exercise, and spiritual health......but mental health is only getting worse as a whole. Without addressing those issues properly, and ending this bullshit war on drugs....it's gonna take a long while before the situation improves. The one drug that should be legal and an affordable option for ALL addicts of any kind - is Iboga/ Ibogaine. If you're an addict, and happen to read this.... I highly suggest you look into getting someplace you can do a session with it.
Many of us keep trying to mitigate our issues with a lesser evil, but the goal should always be to be void of dependence on anything that negatively impacts your health (which kratom will over time guaranteed). We don't realize the source of our addictions until we really do the work to find the source. Iboga goes beyond destroying habits, but can put you in a position to see things you couldn't before. Many psychedelics have that ability (like Ayahuasca), but the more difficult the journey, usually the more beneficial. I'm advocate for all drugs, as it's the only way society is going to be intellectually honest about the positive end, and how to use them responsibly. Kratom needs to remain accessible to the larger population, but unfortunately, most of the developed world treats all substances as an all or nothing issue that is only justified in a for-profit healthcare system.
Just use kratom responsibly, in moderation, without excessive doses, and take breaks from it periodically....I can't urge that enough. I'd also remain cognizant and vigilant about improving your health beyond what kratom can offer. That should be the goal....to no longer use it. Fuck the war on drugs. All the best everyone.

    • @floordoctor
      @floordoctor 2 роки тому +4

@@hollie13ulloa depends what part of of the withdrawals. I’d say early on, the first day or two are pretty mild. Maybe a 2 compared to heroin. Day 3 is probably between a 3-5, as the body aches/pains/ and RLS are pretty bad with most. It’s very difficult to sleep, if at all. That can last for 2-3 nights, then it’s basically over. The longer post acute withdrawal symptoms are worse in a lot of people. To me they’re far worse than the drugs you listed. It’s on par with methadone. Could take several months for some to feel like their old selves, while others it’s only a few weeks. Depends on how healthy the individual is, & how much effort they’re making with diet & exercise; along with other lifestyle choices, obviously.

Extremely well said. The problem with prohibition is this all or nothing assessment of a substance's potential where substances are either not worth touching at all ever or they're seen as miracle cures that should be widely available, which leads to people evangelizing about the positives without acknowledging the risks that are present with taking any drug. people should be wary of anything they ingest, especially drugs. I'm typically very pro-drug use because they are tools that have been used to improve life since time immemorial but there is nothing you can take that doesn't carry risk and people should be realistic and properly informed about anything they take

For pain management “Red” veins are going to be the choice. I like mixing green veins in my morning dose for the energetic properties, and red for night time pain relief. In the Kratom world, less is more - wait the full 6-8 hours between doses to get the full effect of each dose. It is a godsend when used properly but be cautious. People rarely refer to it as a drug, and I’m comparison to other opiates…it’s definitely not as “bad”, but the chance for dependency is there just like any other brain chemistry altering substance.

Because you traded opiates for opioids. And when you ever decide to quit (or if kratom turns on you like it did me) you will find out just how addicted you are. It's no picnic. I was in absolute misery for over 2 weeks and then the symptoms just mellow a little and post acute withdrawals still going on after 4 months cold turkey. I took it for almost 6 years for CPTSD. It gave me hyperalgesia (Narcotic Bowel Syndrome) and I was forced to quit abruptly. It was pure hell when the horrific pain in my colon started and I had no clue it was the kratom causing it all alone. I went through 6 months of torture, in and out of the ER, 2 Cat scans, visits to urologists thinking I had kidney stones, then to a GI specialist for a colonoscopy, all to be told nothing was wrong other than I was constipated. The pain felt like I was being impaled with a sharp spear, over and over again. It was traumatizing to the point that I felt I was about to die each time it happened. Kratom should not be taken every day. I only took 9 grams per day and had tapered down to 6 grams per day when I realized it was the kratom causing my pain. My colon has been messed up since I quit and still have restless legs, anhedonia, insomnia, sneezing fits, and depression since quitting 4 months ago. But the acute withdrawals were horrible. It was like being in hell every day for 3 weeks and the nights were even worse. I couldn't lay still. I was lucky to get 1 hour of sleep per night. Constant brain zaps and horrific anxiety. Restless legs from hell, frequent urination, it was horrible. I've never been hooked on any kind of drug before and I thought kratom withdrawal would be like "coffee withdrawal" based on the BS I read on Reddit. This is a full blown opioid with SSRI antidepressant qualities as well and I've read antidepressants are hell to withdraw from. I believe that's what caused my brain zaps. This stuff is no joke and really shouldn't be taken daily. I wish I had known then what I know now, I would have had the willpower to only take it once a week and keep it under 4 grams. Now, my opioid receptors in my colon have been "rewired" to feel intense pain when I take kratom or other opiates.

It's not even his level of education that makes him so smart. It's the fact that he can approach any subject without any sort of societal bias interfering with his own conclusion. That's the true sign of an intellectual. He doesn't care if some other really smart person already came to a conclusion or wrote a book about something hes going to personally find out. Most people are not critical thinkers today. Most people when they want to learn about something they just go to whoever wrote the best book and has a degree from a top tier college. We find one book on a subject written by who we think is the is the smartest author and we then take his words as gospel and parrot his thoughts to others so we can sound intelligent and decieve ourselfs into thinking we are smart. And even that's a stretch most people just skim through random articles and base there whole opinion on the contents of those articles. Nobody has original thoughts anymore. With the effortlessness of constant stimulation we receive from electronics and other modern types of entertainment it's possible to go your whole life without a thought of your own. And probably not even realize it. You think they are your thoughts but really you have been indoctrinating your subconscious with an unending supply of content and almost all of it consist of nothing but opinions with very little truth. I notice these things more now than ever. We somehow have convinced ourselves that our identity consist of things we enjoy and things we don't enjoy. Your identity is who you are not what entertainment you indulge in. People have defined themselves by what material objects they are most interested in. If you ask someone who they are and they will start naming fav music fav tv shows what clothing style they like. All meaningless. They don't want to think any deeper than there material obsessions. It's scary to actually think and sit down and ask yourself who am I? Am I a good person? Do I always help people in need if I can? do I always give people the love and respect they deserve? Am I constantly trying to grow as a person or am I more concerned with how my Instagram looks? Those types of questions quantify who you are. This is totally from left field I know lol. But enough cannot be said about people who not only use critical thinking but actively practice it. Lots of our younger generation seem to think that thinking for yourself means to form a baseless opinion then locate as many sources that also echos the baseless opinion. I guess to boil it down thinking for one's self is the practice of admitting to yourself anything is possible and knowing that since day one we have been conditioned to have certain opinions to feel guilty about certain things. Our opinions as a group have an immense effect on what we see as taboo and what is not. It's so strong that to even just learn or research a taboo subject is enough to label you as bad or evil. How we are supposed to recognize evil if we constantly turn our backs and pretend it doesn't exist. In true esoteric tradition one can only defeat evil once he comes to know it's true name. To study it relentlessly without looking away from it's ugliness for even a second. Once you know it's true nature only then will be granted power over it.

As a researcher, I've been very dissatisfied with previously available descriptions of various recreational drugs. They either came from pro-psychedlic stoners who gave vague mystical descriptions or institutions like DARE and MADD who give even more vague, cookie-cutter descriptions. Having someone who is familiar with chemistry, familiar with mind-altering substances, able to investigate production/benefits/risks to the users and to society, and also able to present the information in a neutral manner is extremely important for both policy and research.
As a maths researcher, I'm able to understand more than your average stoner, but less than your average chemistry student. After 3 bouts with cancer, a double back fusion, a neck fusion, 2 strokes, carotid surgery, heart attack and severe neuropathy I had been on high dose pain meds including fentanyl patches and sometimes up to 20 hydrocodone a day for 10 years. Found Kratom and moved over to it for ALL my pain and inflammation. @@allegorx58 How wrong you are!!! It's very easy to find the information that there's a war on pain pts because they use opiods to control pain. People who have a genuine need for opiod pain medication are being treated as nothing more than addicts. Part of it is fear on drs part . They fear being put in prison by dea. It should be drug dealers & cartels who fear that but it isn't. As a result, it's legitimate pain pts, the dying, those with cancer, anyone who has chronic or intractable pain are being demonized while opiod addicts are being lifted up & treated well. Addicts are money in the bank for big pharma & Andrew Kolodney with their addiction med suboxone &buprenorphine. So any other opiod like morphine etc are not bankable for them. So yeah, you can bet it totally happened.

Kratom has helped me over these past few years to get my life in order and I got off Suboxone which was horrible mental and psychological withdrawal and now it's coming time to get off the kratom. When I lower my dosage my blood pressure goes up to outrageous place. The withdrawals from Kratom were very very horrible the last time I ran out. But I found something that helped me and I'm going to the doctor and get it this time. So that I can get off Kratom completely. The drug I found that worked for completely getting rid of my withdrawals is called Neurontin or Gabapentin. Which is for sciatic or nerve pain. I took them all throughout the day as often as I needed to for the withdrawal symptoms. I also took losartan potassium which is the cleanest and oldest blood pressure medicine you can get. It only took me about two or three weeks to get past the Kratom withdrawals.

When it came time to stop using I had very mild, if any, withdrawal symptoms. Effects from the Kratom would include pain management and increased social ability. I've noticed many users tend to increase their dose with their raising tolerance and taking it far too often. I have to recommend taking Kratom no more than once per day, and if taking the same serving begins to feel less effective you need to take a break for a couple days or more rather than raise your dose. Because it's so cheap, accessible, and available. Their business model wouldn't survive. When I was on Oxy, my RX was $1100 a month. I spend about $50 a month for Kratom.

Kratom is incredible and is a much better option than stereotypical opiates. I've had a lot of joint pain while recovering from Covid, but I don't like taking typical painkillers like acetaminophen or ibuprofen for fear of any organ damage. It helps me to keep moving and exercise lungs and body, especially when I feel like total garbage and just want to sleep and not do anything.

You’re worried about organ damage so much that you avoid NSAIDs and replace them with mystery powder? Because...better for organs? Not sure I follow your logic.

Kratom also lowers respiratory function and has caused high liver function as well.

I haven't had a drink since finding kratom but the most beneficial thing I've gotten from kratom is getting off so many dangerous RX medications, including Klonopin, Ultram, Seroquel, and Vicodin (prescribed for breakthrough pain). I'm functioning now, not just medicated to numbness. Kratom quite literally saved my life. And I won't go back. I can't.
