    Is Magic Johnson’s reputation damaged after quitting the Lakers?

    • @JoshWearing
      @JoshWearing 5 років тому +9

      In the cosmos of time, this will only be a speed bump in Magic's impact on the Lakers and the NBA. Similar to his talk show, coaching job (only did it as a favor to the late Dr. Buss), Magic as president of basketball operations is just a failed venture. Talk to any one of Magic's billionaire colleagues, taking risks is a part of success. If Magic's brother and colleague Michael Jordan had all those failures, which he acknowledges was his "secret stuff" to propel him, then this won't matter one bit in the basketball universe.

      This whole event will be forgotten when the playoffs start. Once the finals are done it will be about the draft and if anyone good ends up on the Lakers, which I doubt since Magic left, he'll be praised. If the team stays horrible, he'll be seen as an intelligent man. In the end, the damage was done to this team many years ago so no, his reputation is fine.

      @@itsintheword230 How the heck would Lavar know? He doesn't get to hang around the Lakers front office. He said Magic is a figure head, no one else but him said that. He said that because he was trying to manipulate Magic into firing Luke. If he had called anything, it would have to be Magic resigning but he didn't say that.

    Skip nailed it when he compared this to Magic taking on coaching. The guy wants to be loved. Any time he experiences some push back, he bails. He did this with his talk show, coaching stint, and now this gig with the Lakers.

    The issue is not that he quit the issue is how he quit. He flat out gave up. I honestly think Buss should hire Kobe for that position if Kobe is interested. Kobe doesn't get a lot of credit for being an extremely smart business individual.

    For the record, as a former aircrew member in the United States Air Force, I can tell you that you are supposed to put your own mask on first because the effects of hypoxia are incredibly quick and devastating (especially at altitudes above 30,000 ft.) If you pass out, you can't help anyone else. So you help yourself first.

    To say or think that the position at Magic Johnson was in for the LA Lakers, has destroyed his image of legacy in any type of way is ridiculous. Magic Johnson Legacy is already formatted as a Hall of Famer.

    Marcellus cleaned it up at 8:00 minutes because they were going down a rabbit hole. They got Lebron with a young nucleus still with the ability to sign one or two more max players. Lebron never won in the first year. The Warriors clearly have the best team. This season was a complete wash after they got Boogie for $5,000,000. Boogie is a $25,000,000 a year player. I think the Lakers were on track to sign Boogie and AD or Kyrie. In either case they needed one more year and they could have kept the nucleus of their roster and been set for years to come. There was just too much back biting and back stabbing.

    Why do people think failure is so bad. Failure happens, it is a part of life. Failure is an experience that you learn and grow from. Magic Johnson failed, big deal. Failure is something that happens to everyone. Nobody's perfect. I will admit he could have handled the situation a little bit better, but none the less it was his decision. Failure happens.

    Magic said in the press conference that he is tired of the back stabbing (Jeanie & Rob) so Im sure the front office (Jeanie & Rob) were not very surprised of his resignation.They had meetings the prior days, weeks, etc and Magic was tired of making decisions and them being snubbed by the owner and Rob, He gave up and bounced!

    I know these guys have a show to do and I respect that, obviously, by tuning in. Let's just admit the truth - no one, not Steven A. not these guys, not the Domino's driver in LA knows why Magic chose to resign or the timing of it. We know he loves the Buss's, he loves the Lakers, and he's a very wealthy man. Everything else on the matter is pure speculation.
