I feel like the cigarettes and the nicotine are a metaphor for the whole love affair in this music video. It feels good, so good in the moment. But the more you tap into it, the more it happens, the deeper you get into the habit... the worse the situation gets. You're left longing for the company and the taste of the other person's lips, similar to the way cigarettes hook you in and put you in a crutch. But my GOD, I am absolutely in love with this song and its music video. Joshua is literally no joke when it comes to talent.

It is in the past. i still find Josh's story and his fans' admiration of him to be interesting. Again, that is another subject.
You raise a good point. Frankly, I think Josh does not have the best management. What is being done to promote this song? What was done to promote "Doppelgänger?"
Also, it is not incredibly impressive to read that he has had to cancel some of his upcoming tour dates because of "conflicts." Why was his team not out in front of that? Also, even before those dates were canceled, there was almost nothing here on YT about the upcoming tour.
What do you think? Maybe someone knows something I do not know.

@@mebem1008 Thanks for your reply. You are right. There is no coordination between the release of the new songs and his tour. It is not that complicated: 1) release new material, 2) immediately announce a (promotional) tour, 3) do the PR work: TV talk shows, the press, maybe a short live event like a Tiny Desk Concert to whet people’s appetites. YT is not going to be enough.
i can't believe Joshua directed the videos for smoke slow, sad songs in a hotel room and doppelgänger. Both the songs and the videos are incredible! Joshua is a genius and deserves much more recognition!

Josh has a potential niche. Using the term “feel-good music” might be an over-simplification but it appears here many people like that sound.
Why is he not on Fallon, Kimmel, and Carden performing his songs? Why is he not on Tiny Desk? Check Harry S. and Ed S. on Tiny Desk.
Do his fans think he has what it takes to make that happen?
Should he dump hsmtmts? Being associated with that show kind of keeps him in the Disney-for-kids realm.
Take a look at Charlie Puth’s recent appearance on Jimmy Fallon. Can Josh match that in terms of Presence? I do not mean Josh needs to sound like Charlie but he needs to Bring It.
I think Josh needs some very serious help on selling himself and his music. This is, after all, the Music Business.

It is not the same scenario for all artists. Not everyone is in the right place at the right time, releases a viral hit, and then gets a Verrrrry Big Push. I suspect you know to whom I am referring, although little is to be gained be making any further comparisons.
Frankly, I think his sound needs a bit more edge.
