At last a video from a grammy award winning producer showing you how to record professional sounding vocals,
whilst only using the Logic For x plugins. Thank you Seth this couldn't have landing for me at a better time, as i was in the process of finally adding the vocals to the instrumental backing track. As a vocalist this information is priceless. So looking forward to applying your technique. Thanks a million.
So glad this is helpful!
I’m at 5:03 in this video and still no demo of vocal recording; just stories. But, when you’re as old as me you get impatient. I’m glad others have enjoyed this. Maybe next time. ❤
Record button is pressed first time at 11:28 , if you still need this tutorial.
@@alexanderpetrenko79 Hey! Thank you! I appreciate it. 👍🏼
you deaf AND blind man?
Thank you so much for this! I just invested in Logic Pro and a new mic set up to take my recording to the next level. This is exactly what I needed! I’m ready to get to work! Your hard work and videos are very very very much appreciated!
Thanks Seth, made an immediate difference to my recording with a Rode NT and less plug ins whilst getting a better sound. May Jimi be with you!
Really great video Seth. Thanks for sharing. Appreciate the clear instruction. Moving from Pro Tools to Logic Pro and this helps a whole lot
Going into a session today, FL is my primary DAW but with this tutorial I know exactly what to do once I fire up Logic. Thank you 🙏🏾
Excellent video..very helpful.. Thanks so much
Priceless! thank you so much for the best video on the subject!
Very cool, very helpful, very professional! Thank you! 👍🏻👏🏻🙏🏻
What a great video. I was searching like crazy for a video like this. Thanks so mucho
Brilliant. Thank you for sharing and making this very valuable video!
Just starting out using a DAW, with a good microphone, recording my own vocals, and this video is right on-target for me.
Best tutorial ever - fast, informative, concise, comprehensive. Excellent job, Thanks!
Glad it was helpful!
Seth, thank you so much for sharing this material!!, I also have found really helpful the Autopunch recording option of logic pro x, so you just record one part of the vocals, instead of recording it all over again. As you said there are many ways and options to record vocals and each producer has his own way, I just wanna point out that extra option is available for those who use logic pro x too.
Thank you again, I just already subscribe to your channel to follow your work.
That was really well put across and articulated. Thank you very much.
Greetings Seth and thanks for a rich lode of invaluable information! As a brass-based studio, I'm now expanding, and have my first vocal session tomorrow! Wish me luck and thanks again!
Good luck!
Man ! This is so much help, I'm trying to use protools and it for my mind is so complicated I can't really enjoy it. You explain your process so well, I want to try to learn all you'll share with us. Thank you so much !
One of the very few videos about recording vocals which are worth it! Really got something from it! Thank you very much, sir!
Glad you enjoyed it!
Wow! Thanks, Seth. Great insight.
This was amazing to watch. Learnt so much seeing it done in real time, especially at a fast pace. Thank you!!!
Awesome to hear 👂
Amazing helped me so much! Thanks man!
Thank you very much I appreciate your service!!
Thank you so much!! Very helpful and clear instructions
This was an extremely helpful video!
Amazing stuff! thank you brotha
Thanks a lot for sharing your own experience!
Thanks Seth, this was really helpful! :)
Thank you so much sir it really helped ❤️❤️
Tx man, very informative. Just about to go back into a new series of recording sessions and vids, so this is good research for me.
I'm an avid (lol) Logic user and I found this super helpful because I hardly ever record vocals.
Very useful, good explanations!
I have been freaking searching for a video like this!!! Why haven't I seen this before?
Great video!!
Thanks Seth!,
Thanks for the video, cool song, clever lyrics
Thank you so much, very informative and to the point!
You're very welcome!
what was your favorite part?
Good no fuss no muss instructional. Thanks for that.
Great content man.. thanks ;)
Thanks, the tutorial was informative and easy to follow.
true
Like many, I used a Cloudlifter initially to help with the needed gain from my first gen SM7, then switched to the Soyuz version, better yet. Really appreciate this video! Just what I needed, thank you. Subscribed, of course.
This is dope bro. 🔥🔥🔥
i make music on pro tools windows based and am a pro audio recording engineer but i have just switched to mac for the first time in my life anddd to logic for the first time i am in the jungle my friend hahahaha i do understand the daw offcourse but everything functions a lil different or is on a nother spot (functions) after working with pro tools from 2008 til 2021 it is quite a change in my opinion man even the whole mac book thing got my mind crackeling. Nice video my man..and that harmony section of the video...man you blew my mind of with a shotty...word.
Gotta be one of my top three most impactful videos I have watched with regards to musical production on UA-cam, followed by number two which is the video you did after this. Thank you so much. I actually have upgraded recently to an Apollo twin and was not at all happy with the sound I was getting, tried it for the first time yesterday with my usual Neumann TLM 103, which I love but is perhaps now picking up the floors in my studio more than the previous soundcard allowed, perhaps? Going into my studio to try the SM7, which thankfully I have and also like :-)
Can I ask whether you ever use the unison preamps plug-ins within the Apollo console? I have an external mic preamp, but even using a trs cable can’t seem to bypass the Apollo preamp. Would you recommend using a preamp plugin or just go completely dry? Many thanks!
Fantastic. Got a great voice too
great vid, thank you
You're welcome!
Good instruction
Thanks for taking the time to show us. Just one thing. When you are clicking here and there and saying: ''You can do this or do that'' you're clicking so fast that (I) really can't see what you're doing. Best regards.
we'll keep this in mind next time
@@OfficialFCMusic No problem. Ciao
You can lower UA-cam's playback speed
This whole time ove been over thinking melodies and doubles thank you so much
Sweet!
damn this was a great video. thank you!
Very succinct video. Not too novice or expert.
Not redundant etc! Thx
GREAT VID BRO
thank you
BABY YOURE A FIREWOOORK!!!!! 🤯
Very nice.
Thank you so much Seth! Great, helpful, and informative video! 😀
Great content too thanks for the knowledge bro…
My pleasure
great video......
Dude,
you are dope!
❤️❤️❤️
This is excellent work, thank you Seth.
I liked it.
Thank bro
Awesome vid. When you’re doing the comping on those vocal tracks, what keyboard shortcuts did you use when you didn’t come in on time, to return your play head position to immediately start to record again? Thanks!
Hi, You are a good singer.
My favourite songwriters are John Mayer and Rodgers & hart !!
Seth, great lesson. THANK YOU. I Have a question, I noticed that the instruments were on their own separate region, meaning the session was bounced for the instruments… Do you record vocals and instruments on their own sessions? Or this was just for the lesson purposes?
And I'm really actually interested in an answer. I am curious what is going on and why there is so much compression and cleanup as if it's dirty sound?
Thanks Seth, recording a bunch of kids tomorrow, 4 at time, 5 groups. My template is set and ready to go. Thanks!
Fantastic!
Great video, thanks for sharing! What is that shading you're doing on the track(s), example at 31:38, on the blue track you use the mouse to pull a 'triangle' shade on it. Sorry, I'm new to Logic Pro X.
That's fading the track in and out to prevent any clipping or weird noises that might happen at the beginning or end of a track
I think u should promote this channel bruh itz kool
Thanks so much! It was super helpful! So I set those EQ/compressor/pitch correction as your direction; so I can sing with these on, right?
Plus, for pitch correction, what do I do when I do not know the key? 😂 I'm really just playing with my voice alone without prior knowledge.. would highly appreciate your reply! Thanks!
You can leave the pitch correction on “chromatic” if you don’t know the key.
sir I like ur voice so husk super voice u have
hey what button do you press to restart your take!?
Hoping you can share the thinking behind bringing your vocal through auto tune, and then applying Flex Pitch.
I am just using auto tune on to monitor with, but it’s not actually printing through auto tune. It’s recording raw. And then I flex pitched it in this video.
To use auto tune to monitor, you have to turn the low latency mode setting on
Hello Seth, I wanna ask do you put the reverb on the vocal track because the purpose of just hyping the vocal? Because the more suitable way is to send it to bus right? Just want to know the reason behind it. Thanks a lot!!
Thankyou for the nice video. I have a komplete audio 6 interface and I don’t have any light indicators for levels on it and I’m in a big room and it sounds like I’m far from the mic
Important to REcord in a dead room - at bare minimum you can always throw a blanket over your head and hold the sm7 real close - I’ve done it before and it works
What are you setting the gain at on your shure smb7? - finding it odd how much lower the vocals tend to come in - i use the apogee duet and have run the shure through clouds mic pre amp before going into the duet - never sure where to have the gain in the apogee software sometimes in at 33-35 - it always seems loud as hell in the headphones but records extremely lower waveforms than my instrumentals
If you record the vocals with the plugins on do they get baked in the vocal or they get recorded raw?
Do you tour as a musician with 4K&K? You look kind of familiar like I’ve seen you at one of the festivals
Thanks so much. Very well put together. Which UA interface did you use if you don't mind me asking?
Apollo x8
@@OfficialFCMusic Thanks so much. I'd picked up the Twin X Duo. Early instrument testing is great but my lord...the way UA install all the plugins in Demo mode by default and bloat your DAW list was beyond annoying.
Will be recording our vocalist for the first time this week....and in essence first time ever recording vocals so undoubtedly so many 'learn by mistakes' ahead. :)
Seth. Great info but bro why did you speed up the video? I'm a video producer. I had to slow the video to understand you sometimes. But again great information
vielen Dank👍🇩🇪
I have the shure sm58 and a condenser bm 700. What would you pick out of those two? Sorry im a noob.
Go with the condenser with a pop filter
What's with the horrible voice processing on your speech audio?
Why does your mixer look so different? Is that an option?
Where can I find this song? It was really dope
not out yet!
How do you listen to the music track while actually singing it? Not being able to listen to the track
Don’t know if that helps but u have to connect ur headphones to the microphone!
Hello what is your console Seth plug in ? Could we find it on the web ? Thank You very much
It’s in the Uad Apollo software - I believe in this video I was just using some basic eq and compression going to tape
I have a question....you're singing through the UAD right? I noticed you have the neve, autotune. LA2 and 1176 on your channel and you had it set UAD record.....Did I miss you explaining those settings? Doesn't that make a difference ......especially since you at it set to record and not monitor?
It seems like he mentions it at 25:26 but he lightly touches on the settings..but disclaimer: I’m in no way a professional & am a beginner😅
Is there a cheat code or loophole if my vocals are not consistent enough for tripling or doubling it?
Unfortunately no / gotta get the performance right on the front end. Spend the time needed
So I need Apollo? Is there any way to do with just Logic?
You’ll need some kind of audio interface to connect your mic to your computer (or at minimum a usb microphone) - universal audio Apollo interfaces are our recommendation and it comes with the software shown. Not a requirement but will increase your quality a good bit
🎯❤
Last year I upgraded my mic to the Audio Technica 4040. Would I be better off with the Shure SM7B?
I’d personally go for the sm7
@@OfficialFCMusic Do you recommend that standard Shure SM7B -or- SM7dB (w/Built-in Preamp)
@@deanchristensen8363if you don’t have a preamp or an interface with like 68db of gain go for the sm7db
Is that interface on 7:09 built into Logic Pro? Or is this separate?
It’s the universal audio apollo console
Great advice, been in the closet for a while and the mic was perfect.
#new 🇯🇲
how do you record without latency?
Use low latency mode in logic - and if any plugins you’re using have a low latency option enable that (auto tune for instance)
And make sure your buffers are at 64 or 128
🙌😎👍
