Yup. Rebuild: Gangs of Deadsville. I have it and I've been playing it intermittently. Been trying to score the good ending, but one of the steps is a little obscure.
The Zombies Are People Too event is basically a choice to have an extra layer of difficulty. Can you win the game while your survivors keep throwing themselves to the zombies? Even your most skilled survivors are easily swayed to jump into the horde and get eaten.
Ah, I remember it fondly. I did it during my first blind playthrough cause I needed the happiness boost. It backfired quickly. I remember having real good progress up to that point. About half the town reclaimed. About 100 souls within our walls. I had even secured the helipad by then. And then someone came up asking for a church. Anderson. I would later come to curse his very name, but for now, I allowed it. His texts were concerning, but I paid it no mind. 'Probably just being hypothetical'. Decorated graveyards? Sure. Whatever makes them happy. I needed the boost, and besides, I had enough soldiers to secure the city anyhow. I thought myself on top of the world, thoroughly crushing every zombie hoard to come my way. I had it in the bag, or so I thought. In hindsight, I had not been paying attention to morale at all, too lost in the big picture. I was rushing to secure the whole city, uncaring for the losses along the way. Progress, above all else. It made me lenient. No. It made me outright dependent on Anderson and his Church of the Dead. He provided an easy solution to the happiness issue. So when the choice came to crack down on some people who were protesting the Church? I gave down the order. 'Heretics' were to be punished, regardless of if I personally cared for their religion or not. The Church was just too important to lose. All just a means to the end, after all. Then people started fucking throwing themselves into the hordes. The church threw massive parties every time this happened, halting everything. Everything. It was like a double barrel shotgun blast to the face. Every death meant another celebration. Every celebration meant no progress. I could tell instantly that this would be the end. An infinite death spiral for the city at large. I couldn't afford to bleed manpower at such a daily rate. And there was no way I could progress further into the infested suburbs when I couldn't even get anyone to work 2 days in a row. My lust for progress had blinded me to what I enabled. I cursed Anderson and his bloody cult! But it was all too late. There was no second chance to rein in the Church. Anderson was all powerful. He was above me. My callous words meant nothing, compared to the man who would bring us 'enlightenment'. In despair, I searched the town for anything that could stop this madness. Perhaps a hidden option for a revolt from a police station or something. Then, I noticed something in the outskirts of our compound, barely secured by a buffer zone of maybe 2 or 3 blocks. The Helipad. It had been a low priority mission I had placed like 1 lady to work on in the background while I 'conquered' the city. Now, it was our last hope. I scrambled to put every resources I could into repairing the helicopter, unsure if it would even save us or not. Every soul left was to report to the helipad, no exceptions. It didn't matter if the majority had barely any building experience at all. I needed the manpower. So I closed the labs, the schools, the farms, any remaining builds, and even the guard posts. Besides, no pointing in guarding when every attack saw someone willing to jump into the hordes willingly. All this concentrated effort, culminating in a 10 days timeline. It seemed doable. Not even 2 weeks. I felt a sigh of relief. Maybe my folly wouldn't catch up with me yet. And then the next 3 days in a row featured a death / celebration. All while nonstop hordes of zombies scaled the walls. Ah, right. I had to make 10 days of progress when every other day was a party and the town fell to the zombies bit by bit. Defenses fell left and right, and entire swaths of lands were lost. Even just a week ago, I would scoffed at the pathetic efforts of the zombies. Now? I could only pray that the helipad itself would remain, no matter what. It was tense. By the final day, it was just 13 people and a handful of town blocks left. The helipad was on the edge of the compound, just barely within our control. The strongest character, besides Anderson, wasn't even a natural 5 in any category. It had been a brutal month and a half. That '10 day' timeline had been hampered by so much bullshit. But we'd finally done it. The helicopter was repaired! Finally, we could escape. I picked 5 hardened souls, barely a fraction of our highest population. Me, the builder lady who'd been initially assigned to the helipad, and 3 other souls. I made sure to take all the pets we could equip as well. I saw that Anderson wasn't an option. I wouldn't have picked him anyway. With that, I put on my cowboy hat and pressed the next day. And then there was another party. Turns out that 'one day' timeline to progress to the ending wasn't like automatic. It had to actually progress in-game. Anderson, spiteful soul he really was, seemed determined to drag us down with him. 4 days of parties in a row, with another horde to wreck our shit. We lost 2 of the initial 5 people aboard the helicopter. We fell to 8 people total, not even double digits at this point. At this point, I was questioning if we were going to get a bad ending instead. Perhaps, it would have been more fitting. I enabled the Church. And thus I should fall to it. But then finally. Liftoff. I screamed from the chopper at Anderson, lone soul he was now with his few remaining cultists. He got what he wanted, I suppose. Honestly, it was an almost complete victory on his end. But I was just grateful to make it out alive. It was a high I still remember to this day. Next city, I swore I would do better. But his words were insidious. I had become an convert, it seemed. I tried to reopen the church with our new home. I was horrified, inside. Luckily, I wrestled control from this mad side of myself and shut it all down instantly. It appeared to be Anderson's last influence. One last act of spite. But it was finally over. I was free to reclaim as many cities as I wanted. It was one hell of a game.
@@hp22h78I think one of the city's downfall in my playthrough was from my childhood self can't understand English to save my people's life, and accidentally condemn the city to the cult's influence. The end-game tactic of putting all your fighters into a single group and decimating anything is golden. When this game was popular, me and my buddy had just bought the first ever pre alpha release of “7 days to die”, although we had to wait several weeks for the alpha to be playable, and then it was just a square of houses fully of a single zombie model, and a bunch of shotguns.
I remember loving this game series as a kid, I played the hell out of the first one. Then I found out there was a second one, and went to go play it - only to be a little bit scarred by the very suddenly graphic graphics lol. Years later when I was a teen, I found out they made the 3rd, which was very enjoyable to play. And less unpleasant to look at, as they reverted to a more 'modernized' cartooney look that fitted it much better.
I remember when I first played these games I had no idea what I was doing and always suffered the consequences of little to no food. It was when I got older I understood the importance of farms as they were basically your income.

I wish you talked about the third a bit more, for as much as I love the first two, the third one to me feels like the 'best'. More events, full on campaign, rival factions also trying to claim the city, the works. Some old time fans, including myself were offput by the pivot to more cartoony graphics, but honestly it was a worthwhile sacrafice just for the cool idea of having other factions you can meet.
ya know having played rebuild as a kid and now being a fan of exocolonist i would NEVER have guessed they were made by the same person until you pointed it out. rebuild 2 and exocolonist are worlds apart my god
God damn rebuild 2... The zombie cure scam, even as a kid I saw it for what it was, but the writing caused me to accept the cure when I wanted to decline it. I was so upset and I just, gave up right then and there. Never touched it again.
I remember this one! 😁 For some reason people kept having accidents that would put an eye out..... Had a bunch of people nicknamed "cyclops". I also remember the offer to sell off one of the women... Refused, but she turned into a zombie a little while later.... 😟
Rebuild. An old game, but a good game in all three versions. Not enough zombie games having you remake civilization rather than trying to survive the undead.
I did not expect the Dead Frontier ad. I was convinced they had no marketing beyond their social media lol. The game is still in active development in case anyone wonders.

Going from Several Grim Zombie Buildings games to a Friendly one is a mood lmao
Really great video about a really great game that should have more recognition.
I remember playing this, IIRC the cult gets big and take over.
Rebuild was truly peak back then. Even now I would play it now and then since it’s on Steam if you purchase Rebuild 3.
You still can just use Blu3max1ma's Fla2hp01nt XD
Youre not gonna believe this, i was just thinking about this game/the sequel not even an hour ago out of nowhere. Reading my damn mind
in case anyone's interested, Rebuild 2's music comes from the album The Talking Book by Bill Gould and Jared Blum, would highly recommend it
God is the music so good in Rebuild 2
I remember this one. I would really love it if someone made a proper big 4x game about reclaiming a city from zombies.
Holy shit, I remember this game from my childhood...
Man I love legendary flash games. Praying that someday they will get on Steam or even ported to more modern engine
Damn I loved playing these games in class

Cant forget when one of my most veteran soldier lost an eye. Three times.
I played this on my Nook tablet. That will date me.
Thanks for bringing attention to old flash games. I'm just going to guess you're WELL aware of Flashpoint by now.
Now I’m thinking about the zombie game where you have to manage logistical chains & final mission you destroy a bridge
I remember this game, it was really fun
You're telling me one of my favorite flash-games ever, was made by the same dev that made my favorite indie puzzle/adventure/life-sim??? Ah heck ye
I still play Rebuild 3 on my phone every now and then
You didn't talk about Rebuild 3 which was the best one imo.
Man, I remember spending hours upon hours on this game. It reminds me of Northgard, that might be the reason I play that one so much.
RAHHHHHHH MY CHILDHOOD RUSHING BACK INTO MY BRAIN
ya know having played rebuild as a kid and now being a fan of exocolonist i would NEVER have guessed they were made by the same person until you pointed it out. rebuild 2 and exocolonist are worlds apart my god
I still play it in flashpoint from time to time.
Pinging @NorthwayGames in case she hasn't seen this yet! What an incredible game.
In retrospect I don't know if pinging works on youtube, whoops.
rebuild is a hell of a game
Yooo i was obssesed with this game, the lack of sound and music made everything more disturbing but i still enjoyed it
Commenting so that the algorithm sees this video and gives it its favour
These were good games, might even check out the third!
4:57 "look its an af for dafontieux, tha was an interesting mmo"
the dead frontier mmo still exists in two forms, the revamped 3d version and a fps style version. both are still given attention by the creator
4:55 Dead Frontier, God, I played that a lot until I realized it's just gonna get harder with no payoff
God damn rebuild 2...
The zombie cure scam, even as a kid I saw it for what it was, but the writing caused me to accept the cure when I wanted to decline it. I was so upset and I just, gave up right then and there. Never touched it again.
I remember this one! 😁
For some reason people kept having accidents that would put an eye out.....
Had a bunch of people nicknamed "cyclops".
I also remember the offer to sell off one of the women... Refused, but she turned into a zombie a little while later.... 😟
Fun Fact: Rebuild is the father of "Peacefree: ILA"
I played this a lot a long time ago.
I never used the school for anything. I just made people do jobs until they became experts at it.
I am going to log another rebuild 3 playthrough
Rebuild. An old game, but a good game in all three versions.
Not enough zombie games having you remake civilization rather than trying to survive the undead.
I did not expect the Dead Frontier ad. I was convinced they had no marketing beyond their social media lol. The game is still in active development in case anyone wonders.
Its such a lame game tho no wonder they had to advertise in freaking Rebuild 1 that basically nobody plays anymore XD
@@Ugh718 honestly I enjoy the game a lot. Don't really understand why you think it's lame.
@@kaladrios Because it is its boring as all hell:I tried playing for like 5 minutes once.
Never again lol
subscribed, this game was peak but i never really played it
HELL YEAH THE RIFFS ALL MY HOMIES LOVE THE RIFFS
God these games were good! The Steam game, Gangs of Deadsville, is fucking excellent too. Very worthwhile.
I remember playing Dead Frontier. I remember the marketplace was flooded with low quality common goods being sold by players for like 500 trillion dollars.
Those were people using the market as free storage. And if someone is dumb enough to buy it then money for you!
@@80krauser After over a decade I finally have answers. I can't believe I never thought of that.
I used to play this all night long haha
Ps. Still waiting for the 4th one if there is haha
Omg I’ve been looking for this game
I recommend checking out They Are Billions. It’s a zombie rts game where there are billions of zombies. It’s pretty good, got some small issues, but it’s nice. It even has some Warhammer inspiration.
One a few seconds in and it reminds me of the old pvz Facebook game I played as akid on my mom's account.
somehow this game was unblocked at my school. I remember the other kids and I did everything we could to keep this secret so we could still play while at school.
You probably used the unblocked games website or sthg lol
I feel bad for the generation who misses out on...ya know...the fun flash games :c
For everyone here saying"I wish I could still play this game"etc:Blu3max1ma'2 Fla2hp01nt and the downloadable y8 browser exist for a reason, aswell as my videos on how to download these games;)
was a classic set of games, many hours of fun, shame bout the bug you encountered.
Despite the graphics, it's a really competent management game.
"DESPITE the graphics"!?Dude I played this game SPECIFICALLY because of the graphics and music lol
