    Well done Citroen. At last an EV product that fits the mainstream needs. So many do NOT want five million horse power, NOR want to have to remortgage their home or sell a kidney, NOR have a car that is so big it has its own gravity sphere, NOR has more lights than a Nimitz aircraft carrier. The WHOLE point of moving to EV is for the planet. Having a car that is four tons and with one thousand horse power is not green whichever way you look at it.
    To move the masses over, car companies need to offer, reasonable prices, reasonable ranges, and reasonable performance. This e-C3 looks right in the sweet spot.

    Just 22 kWh for the cheap version is brutal. Should have kept it at 30 kWh, still plenty of difference vs the 44 kWh top model, and could conceivably still take some out of town trips. But 22... imagine winter. That's just too much of a risk to consider buying.

    • @didierpuzenat7280
      @didierpuzenat7280 3 місяці тому +10

      It is 24 kWh (not 22 kWh) and it is for the very cheap version, not the cheap version. So at the end of the day it depends of your needs, for example why would you need more as a second car if they drive less than 50 km per day ? For reference, the average distance per day in Europe in just 30 km, with people driving quite more but also people driving... quite less. BTW, my first EV was a 106 electric with a 75 km range in summer, and for many year it as been perfect as a daily car even with 3 (very young) children. My 106 was my so called "second car" but I used it more than my "first car" (Renault Scenic).

    • @user-iz8hk1ww7i
      @user-iz8hk1ww7i 3 місяці тому +3

      I totally agree with your points - 24kWh for the cheapest version is not good enough. I drive an electric car with a decent range but you do notice the drop in winter. The winter range of the 24kWh could be annoying low and inconvenient.

    • @MrKOenigma
      @MrKOenigma 3 місяці тому +1

      @@didierpuzenat7280I remember the 106 electric, my mom had a saxo electrique❤❤. It was her only car, and she was so happy with it. My dad had a Peugeot Partner electric and later a Citroen Berlingo electric. All of them with about 80km of range, it worked well for them both... 24KWh is plenty. In winter you can still do over 100km on one charge, if that's not enough to go out of town. 😅😅

      Don’t fall into this trap and buy this car! I own a Nissan Leaf 24kWh version with 80 miles range (on a good day). To my surprise after buying the car, I suddenly need to do 900 mile journeys on a regular basis…..

    • @streetwind.
      @streetwind. 3 місяці тому +2

      I'm currently in my second winter with a 22 kWh electric car, and I've not had any issues. The range is more than enough for my needs; even the occasional work commute over the highway to another city can be done twice before I need to charge, even in winter.
      I'm sure that other people will have different needs. But don't dismiss something outright just because your own needs are different. The entry spec will easily find buyers who are happy with what it offers them. If I needed a new car next year, it would likely be the top spot on my shortlist of options.

    I think the issue for this model is the Dolphin and MG4. The base model may be around £23k, but the level of standard kit in the BYD and MG means that if you spec this up it will be into the same kind of territory in around £25-26k. Also with the way pre-reg and low mileage used EV's are being priced at the moment they might struggle with it.

    I think the Dacia Spring is not a competitor for this car, the C3 looks just so much a better package than that, but the new Twingo arriving in 2 years can be. But this thing with this price tag will dominate the market in the meantime, unless the new Panda arrives this year with a good price.

    When they first showed this I was quite curious, but now that I know the details it's a bit of a mixed bag for me.
    + Low entry price
    + Relative quirky looks
    + Wireless Android/Apple car stuff (but again, only on the upper trim levels)
    - For a relative similar price, overall less car compared to it's rivals
    - Less range
    - Less space
    - Smaller screen (and no screen on the entry level model, which feels skimping)
    - Slower 0-100km/h
    - Less quality looking interior
    All in all it feels like a typical western-approach, similar to the Vauxhall Corsa and Peugeot e208: the moment you want comparable specs as their Chinese direct competitors, the price will be higher and/or the overall trim will still be lower.

Not to mention you may love your children (and need a car), you know, pollution and climate warming. In France you can have 7000 € for a new EV if you are not too much rich (4000 € otherwise), and a charge point for free (500 € max, eg a Tesla wall-connector), and in my city (Lyon) street parking is cheaper for EVs, etc. BTW, range anxiety does not exist, it is just a myth, and I say that after more than 20 years driving an EV.

    Please, stop saying that such cars are mostly for cities. Cheap and practical EVs are just perfect for people living outside cities, with most of the time a way to charge at home while it is more difficult in cities. Not to mention families living outside cities often have more than one car. Finally, from now to 2035, public transportation and bicycle infrastructures will be far better in cities, so I am not sure cars have a real future in cities. We need to stop ICE cars but it does not mean we must replace all of them by EVs, especially in cities. BTW, the Citroen 2CV was also cheap and small, and it became a best seller in the country side. In fact, if you really need a city car, the Ami is far better, with a top speed (45 km/h) higher than the speed limit of big cities, at least in France (30 km/h in Paris and Lyon), and you will waste less time to find a place to park (not to mention it costs a third of this cheap e-C3).

      Maybe that is true.
      However, the whole point of EVs is to reduce the ever-worsening local air pollution in our towns and cities - hence all the ULEZs springing up around the UK.
      So, yes, a small-capacity combustion-engined car will be cheaper, but it'll still be pumping out around 1.6 tonnes of toxic CO2 in to our children's lungs over a typical 10,000 miles/year usage.

    • @mikadavies660
      @mikadavies660 3 місяці тому

      @stevenham1937 My suggestion would be lease a new EV. ORA is currently £150/mth lease. By going EV I personally saved £150 to £180/mth in fuel. On that basis, if I had an ORA it would feel like it was almost for free. Owning an EV.... there are many 2 or 3 yr models with warranty for £10k to £15k where the depreciation has mostly gone. I imagine the E-C3 will be worth £10k in 3 years.

    • @drxym
      @drxym 3 місяці тому

      @@mikadavies660 I certainly wouldn't buy an Ora. Sales of those things have been utterly miserable and I would not be surprised if their dealers cease trading. I do think people who want to get into EVs could do well to buy a 2nd hand car.

    tell me the most important information the equivalent of miles per gallon in a petrol car. The eficiency.

    • @jonathantaylor1998
      @jonathantaylor1998 3 місяці тому

      That's straight-forward maths.
      The 44kWh battery 'probably' has a useable 41kWh capacity, give or take.
      So, 199 miles divided by 41kWh = 4.8 miles/kWh gives your WLTP efficiency.
      WLTP (just like published mpg...) is lab-tested, so usually optimistic.
      Take 15% off, maybe...?
      So, a real-world efficiency of around 4 miles/kWh which sounds perfectly realistic for an EV of that size and power.
      Plus, since it's likely that most of these cars will be used as local run-arounds, probably charging at home, then a typical overnight EV tariff is 9.5p per kWh for 4 hours' charging, with the rest at 30p per kWh.
      Based on a 7kW home charge point, a 100% overnight charge would cost around £6.50 (same as a gallon of unleaded, at current prices) for a real-world 165 miles = 165mpg equivalent for a combustion-engined car.

      India has been the dumping ground for some of the most dangerous, dogshit cars that manufactures domestic & foreign can conceive. Global NCAP has been running safety campaigns to improve the situation and some manufacturers are making more of an effort but not Stellantis or Renault.
      The Renault Kwid (which is the basis of the Dacia Spring) earned 0 stars in Global NCAP and only 1 star in its bolstered EV form for Euro NCAP. And the C3 was a death trap too with 0 stars in Latin NCAP. Basically if you were in a frontal collision in a C3 you and your kids were dead since the frame was described as "unstable" - basically projecting into the occupants. Citroen would have to do a LOT of work to bring this car to a standard where it would be judged favourably by Euro NCAP - AEB for cars & pedestrians, stiffened body, side impact protection & airbags, more front impact protection, etc. Or they could do a box ticking exercise and earn a 1 star rating and I would not be surprised if that turned out to be the case.
