The sad thing is that Quincy has recently claimed Mike used to “steal” a lot of stuff like the bass line for Billie Jean and pieces of other songs too when he has always praised him and the work they’ve done together. He probably never said a word of this to MJ’s face, what an hypocrite. Btw MJ never stole anything, for Billie Jean, he got inspired by the bass line of “I Can’t Go for That (No Can Do)” by Hall & Oates and he also admitted it. But you can hardly notice it and the two songs are totally different in the end. In fact he produced some of the most unique and best songs of all time and it became one of his most famous singles for a reason.
And from a different angle, Madonna very obviously took inspiration from BILLIE JEAN for PAPA DON'T PREACH. Very similar chords, melody, structure and themes.
Jacob Jorgenson Don’t know if Picasso ever said that but I’ve always hated that quote. Great artists are inspired by other great artists but should never steal imo, that wouldn’t make them “artists”. MJ had multiple influencers and created unique art of his own. That’s how it should be.
Quincy pointed out a fact that is always overshadowed by the success of Thriller, that Off The Wall was massive in terms of sale and impact and was the biggest selling album by a black artist, which means MJ at 21 had outsold all the popular groups at the time EWF, Parliament, Teddy P, Kool and the Gang, he outsold them all.
Off the Wall, didn't sell big until after Thriller was released. It never top the charts anywhere in the world (except for the R & B charts in the US - which is not the same as topping the pop charts). It was also not nominated for Album of the Year at the AMA ( in which the nominees are based on sales), Donna Summer's Bad Girls was nominated though, she did sell over 4 million.
I agree Off the Wall was 10 times better to me than Thriller. I've never liked Beat It or Billie Jean they were the 2 corniest songs I've ever heard. I think his very best album was the Dangerous album. Which is the album that sold the least.

AlecoSound no he wasn’t 😂 Michael admitted in his own autobiography that he was saying it wrong and Quincy told him how to say it. I’m a huge MJ fan but Jesus stop making him right even when he is wrong 🤣
I'm from Greece and yes the correct pronunciation in Greek is "socratis" "Σωκράτης" Σ= S , ω=ο, κ=k, ρ= r , α= a, τ= t , η=i, ς=s . Michael was right without knowing.
I am Greek and I have to say that Michael Jackson pronounced Socrates right. Σωκράτης= Socrates η=ee ά=when Greeks put this kind of lines on letters, that means that the specific letter is pronounced highlighted.
Michael was certainly famous before Quincy, but "Off the wall" and "Thriller" launched him into the stratosphere and made him an icon. Quincy Jones had a LOT to do with that.
Yes...agreed,but IMO the one responsible for all of Michael Jackson's major success is Berry Gordy...it was Berry Gordy's movie the Wiz that brought Michael and Quincy together,Quincy has said in interviews he wanted to work with Michael because he was familiar with his Motown work and knew his range,in other words,he knew this young man was very talented,so when Michael asked him to produce his solo project it was a no-brainer
Michael had a very mediocre solo career - before Thriller.... PERIOD, Off the Wall, started to sell more albums after Thriller was released and he exploded in the US... before 1982, he was a star, but not yet a mega star (or a huge pop star).
It's hard to define Michael Jackson's career...but you're spot on IMO...i'm from the east coast and during Off the Wall period people was into go-go music heavy percussion sounds,i remember when on his OTW tour i wasn't interested in going to the show,to me the Jackson's at that time was like a nostalgia act, totally agree in retrospect after Thriller then OTW got more recognition and became this "underrated" album
Michsel is responsible for his own success. He was the one who performed in that Motown 25. If it was any other artists it wouldn't be the same. As a producer Quincy is the best.
Mj was brilliant from the beginning. Even Berry Gordy said that. It's meant that he met Quincy.. Its fate.. destiny. They both benefited in that marriage. Quincy helped Mj, but Mj brought so much wealth to Quincy that no other artists did. Even upto Mj's death, he benefits millions.. If not Quincy, there will be another who will nurture that genius in Michael.. One thing for sure.. Mj never said anything bad about Quincy.. That's how kind Mj is.. #justsaying
Quincy was hurt when Michael dropped him after Bad and hired T Riley. Whether or not Michael actually said it, Quincy heard that Michael told Teddy that Quincy was "out of touch with where music was headed" and he needed someone who knew today's industry. Quincy took that very personal. Quincy heard Michael was making a record and said Michael started avoiding him when they ended up at places together. He assumed Michael was uncomfortable and feared confrontation. The friendship started to cool
8mycrab Wrong. Michael was told by Tommy Mottolla who was running Sony that he couldn’t use him because he was an asshole. Michael called Quincy after Dangerous was finished and asked him if he would listen to it and let him know what he though. He still valued Quincy’s opinion, and Quincy did listen and said it was a masterpiece. They remained friends.
Mike had the raw talent and Quiny had the vision which led to timeless music. Salute to both of those dudes...I still play the off the Off the Wall and Thriller albums at least once every month. Respect the king! RIP MJ
Never said they were laughing about the song, said they were laughing about the way Quincy worded that sentence. Stfu, your actually embarrassing and it’s people like you that give us MJ fans a bad name.
vterpan That's what I thought.. It's not English it's Greek.. Quincy's full of shit.. he just wanted to gain an upper hand and make an impression on Michael
Oh my god EVEN MICHAEL ADMITTED HE WAS SAYING IT INCORRECTLY! People like you legit make me embarrassed to be in the same fandom as you 🤦🏼♀️ He’s not saying anything bad about Michael so what’s your problem? Get a grip!
@@ellawhiteside6483 Michael was made to think he was wrong when he was actually right. Quincy thought he was right & michael was naive & trusted Quincy’s authority so he believed him.

If you’re watching this interview, and u read this comment, I want u to sit and think about how many people are STILL making money off of Michael Jackson. The person who posted this video is making money off Michael Jackson!
Quincy turned out to be another charlatan and pulled a low down dirty money grab on Jackson’s Estate. Then proceeded to accuse Michael of stealing. Michael was honest about who wrote what. Makes me sick to think it’s always about money with those who back stab Michael after his passing. The disrespect to Michaels legacy is sickening. Off the wall is my favorite out of the two Thriller would be second just being honest. For all those saying Michael would be nothing without Quincy just remember Michael was somebody before Quincy. It’s Quincy who never had the success with another artist like he had with Michael. Michael had the success since he was 8. Quincy and Michael were a good team But Michael was a talent like no other. His memory deserves to be treated as such.
Michael wasn’t a musician, and Quincy wasn’t a lyricist, but together they made magic. They pushed, pulled, and sometimes probably shoved, to create timeless hits. Creativity needs that balance-because if it were easy, everyone would have their own "Thriller." Instead, we just have Spotify playlists.
He can't have a discussion without giving complimenting himself. The world didn't hear from him after separating from Michael, yet he still thinks he's in the 80s.
shit he wasn't. He was a parot looping all his Motown classics. Quincy Jones resurrected Michael Jackson. Let's not forget: without Quincy Jones there's no Off the Wall, Thriller and Bad.
KingCorny93 Michael Jackson was a train headed to inevitable success. That talent was unstoppable. Quincy was lucky to be at the right place at the right time to hitch a ride. Literally anyone could've produced Michael, coz Michael creatively controlled everything anyway and just lacked the technical expertise.
The ending chant "Wanna Be Starting Something" was stolen from the 1972 song "Soul Makossa". The artist from Cameroon who wrote the song sued Jackson in a French court and settled out of court.
To Quincy Jones, Big question, who is the smartest singer you ever worked with sonically, who knew thier instrument the best(?voice, what it needed) asking all the engineers
I doubt he will say that was Mike...He named a LONG list of people he worked with and who were really, really great in his opinion and Mike wasn't one of them ;)
REAL tinkerbells know Quincy is full of shit and became low key jealous of Michael. He's been taking little shots here and there before and AFTER Michaels passing
He earned tons of money with Michael and other than Michael he kept his money together. You guys all blame him for beeing a dick. This man created the 3 best black albums in history and it was Michael who wanted to work with other guys. Calm your tits and give this man the respect he deserves.
KingCorny93 Why is that relevant? He clearly resents the fact that in every interview he is asked about Michael. All his decades of work and that's all anyone is interested in. They want to know about Michael. He's extremely bitter or going senile. He claims MJ lied and that he never had vitiligo, even though it is an indisputable fact that he did. He said MJ killed himself. He spoke about MJ's "white kids" like as if he's never looked at his daughter Rashida in his life. Lord, that girl looks whiter than I do 😂😂😂 He said some shit about Prince when he passed too... said he wanted to run MJ over in a car, voodoo him and that he was jealous of him 😑 I prefer to just ignore Q at this point.
I noticed that Quincy only says things that are already writting on the book ´'Moonwalker', so yhat he is not saying things thatvMJ didn't want him tto say
@@quincyjones9481 He was superstar before he met you & that’s why you wanted to work with him. You knew he was going places. You saw his phenomenal talent & potential & wanted to work with him. MJ was a star all his own. No one has been able to replicate what he did, not even you. You contributed, a LOT, but you did not “make him”. If anything, he made you world famous. He loved you Quincy.
@@quincyjones9481 Michael Jackson had strength and depth of character that showed in his musical genius. If, as you claim, you “made him”, did you not recognize that? I am asking as it seems there has been so many demeaning things written about him that he definitely did not deserve and those closest to him could put right. He was not only gifted but he was humble and caring in a way that is foreign to this world.
I know... it must have been such a funny moment in time! "so-crazies" : ) I laugh nearly ever time i watch or think of this video. What is xD? Are you really from Antarctica?
He's become like Dame Dash after Jay-Z cut him off. You say you made me, then MAKE ANOTHER ONE! No disrespect to Patti Austin, James Ingram, The Bros. Johnson, or Tevin Campbell, but Q was never able to replicate that same success and impact with anyone else.
@AHHMEHOT Are you sure you're not taking his words out of context? You have your opinion but if you want to know how he felt about Michael you gotta read his autobiography. Cause the way he talks about him and defends him it was like a big brother/little brother relationship. Of course they had their disagreements who doesn't that don't mean he didn't have love and respect for michael.
Michael was a mega star before Quincy. Quincy was not a famous pop producer before Michael. He produced after working with Michael but no big success after that. So what does that say.
When Micheal Jackson was Sued by some guys who said he stole their songs, Jackson won the case because the judge was tone deaf which means he could not recognize one song from another. This saved Micheal's but.
Arnela de Noir mj wanted to work with quincy again for his 1991 album dangerous. quincy told mj to find a new producer that was hot at the time and i think quincy told him to work with teddy riley and the rest is history.
Quincy Jones I have written several songs I think you would like them how can I get in touch with you and also 3 Christmas songs would you be interested
If it wasn’t for Quincy, then Michael Jackson would’ve been known to us as ‘that cute little boy from the Jackson 5’. Rather than ‘that pop icon who raised and broke the bar.’
So he new what he wanted on the album a lot of Artist now there instruments still dose not make them musician and dose not makes Ana statement factually true.
Daniella Stuart Stfu anyone who WRITES, COMPOSES, and ARRANGES music is an musician playing a damn inatrument does not equate to being a musician it only makes you an instrumentalist. MJ composed songs coming out of his head and would dictate them by using his mouth...His demos explain how he came up with HIS songs...MJ was a genius songwriter and musician which is why he sits in the songwriters hall of fame. Research what a MUSICIAN is before you post BS.
Sometimes the truth is the truth and doesn't mean he is bashing him. But their is 2 sided to every story and Michael hasn't got the chance to respond. I wish he were here.

@@williamroark that's the point Q is greedy and isn't satisfied with the money he's got
Thriller album was huge, I can remember when it came out they was so masterful the way the put out the songs rather than put them all out at one time they spanned them out over the radio thriller was the last one it was genius, every thing was Michael I so miss the 80's the club seen in NYC rocked the after hour clubs was great it was non stop partying.
mike johnson I was born 97 here and geez this comment makes me feel so happy, I could only imagine to have lived in that time. I have respect for your generation’s prime days.
I caught the end of the Disco era in the 80's,
HE SAID GOOD THINGS THEN HE TURNED TO TRASH HIM HE MADE ME SICK
Same here!
The funny thing is, the correct Greek pronunciation of Socrates is pronounced "So-Crate-es' so Mike was technically correct.
@@ariaramen amen to that. It is SocrAtes, Σωκράτης in greek it's correct.
I am Greek and I have to say that Michael Jackson pronounced Socrates right. Σωκράτης= Socrates η=ee ά=when Greeks put this kind of lines on letters, that means that the specific letter is pronounced highlighted.
@@ennarvan1603 , but he didn't know that!
Quincy + Michael = Best artists of all time.
He was everything MJ
Camden Subdivision he has everything to do with that.
I heard Quincy was the one who suggested Teddy to Michael
I love when he says “he looked at me with these beautiful doe eyes” ❤
He knew who Michael was since Motown
Mike had the raw talent and Quiny had the vision which led to timeless music. Salute to both of those dudes...I still play the off the Off the Wall and Thriller albums at least once every month. Respect the king! RIP MJ
loved him for a very long time
All hail Quincy. Michael + Quincy = magic. Thriller is THE record to study.
quincy jones a savage he said when he sang the love song about the rat i literally fell out my chair lmfao
Never said they were laughing about the song, said they were laughing about the way Quincy worded that sentence.
Stfu, your actually embarrassing and it’s people like you that give us MJ fans a bad name.
Quincy is a genius. Period. And he seems like such a nice person.
I'll say it again. Michael was saying Socrates right. As it is said in Greek! Σωκράτης. With the stress at the ''a''!
vterpan That's what I thought..
Get a grip!
@@ellawhiteside6483 read the comments made by the Greeks. They said that Michael's pronunciation was correct. You can't argue with that. ☺
@@ellawhiteside6483 Bro you're in every single comment thread did you even read what the person said completely? Mj pronounced the word correctly
@@ellawhiteside6483 Michael was made to think he was wrong when he was actually right. Quincy thought he was right & michael was naive & trusted Quincy’s authority so he believed him.
Quincy Jones is the master!!
4:22 He was in love with Diana Ross that's what it was Quincy. You couldn't find it out all this time? Damn! Which planet are you living? : /
Se Bo Well he ain’t exactly gonna drop that in the middle of an interview is he 😂
0:08 Quincy jones RIP 1993-2024 🪦 🥀 😭 💔 🙏 ❤️🔥 💐🌹🕊

young michael was so soulful
I love Q but really wish he would stick with "tales of the booth" instead of "tales of the bedroom" what Adults do in private should stay that way!
Rodney Jackson 🤣
@3L3CTR0static
by 1980 Off The Wall was the biggest selling album by a black artist, MJ outsold them all. but thriller came and is now the biggest selling of all time
Ryan Elliott dropped that interview in DGTL Sao Paolo! Hahahaha, genius! :)
The world didn't hear from him after separating from Michael, yet he still thinks he's in the 80s.
wow this was posted the day after michael died.... 0_0 props to him being so composed.
shit he wasn't.
Michael’s pronunciation of Socrates was correct
The ending chant "Wanna Be Starting Something" was stolen from the 1972 song "Soul Makossa". The artist from Cameroon who wrote the song sued Jackson in a French court and settled out of court.
that's true. Also p.y.t stole the baseline by "Bad mama mama". Check it out.
To Quincy Jones,
Big question, who is the smartest singer you ever worked with sonically, who knew thier instrument the best(?voice, what it needed) asking all the engineers
I doubt he will say that was Mike...He named a LONG list of people he worked with and who were really, really great in his opinion and Mike wasn't one of them ;)
Bruce Swedien the master engineer will tell you it was Mike hands down
Study the greats and become the greatesttttttt
Because when Michael was filming the wizard of oz he used say so-crazies, but the name was Socrates.
This man made the best album ever
He produced it. Michael was the one that created it sis.
*Michael Jackson made the best album ever
I love Quincy! He's like a sailor always got a story to tell. Only his sea is the music business and his treasure is grammy's
rest in peace bruh
REAL tinkerbells know Quincy is full of shit and became low key jealous of Michael. He's been taking little shots here and there before and AFTER Michaels passing
He earned tons of money with Michael and other than Michael he kept his money together. You guys all blame him for beeing a dick. This man created the 3 best black albums in history and it was Michael who wanted to work with other guys. Calm your tits and give this man the respect he deserves.
+KingCorny93 yeah yeah yeah
Agree
I actually agree
Whats does he say at 01:45? I can't grasp it. What did MJ say to him?
Socrates
I think Quincy was just jealous of MJ. He was in the presence of greatness and genius and knew he couldn’t hold a candle to MJ.
How can I be jealous if I made him ?
It's obvious Quincy was jealous of MJ. Bless you Mary-Ann.
I know... it must have been such a funny moment in time! "so-crazies" : ) I laugh nearly ever time i watch or think of this video.
What is xD? Are you really from Antarctica?
Great interview
Thank you for the comment. It means a lot
Get over it Quincy....or jealousy will poison your heart. Mj really loved you man. He just grou out and matured faster than you liked...
Quincy said " I love when you count me out"
Q tells how he met MJ...and why he offered to produce his first solo LP for CBS Records
Great interview 👍
@AHHMEHOT Are you sure you're not taking his words out of context? You have your opinion but if you want to know how he felt about Michael you gotta read his autobiography. Cause the way he talks about him and defends him it was like a big brother/little brother relationship. Of course they had their disagreements who doesn't that don't mean he didn't have love and respect for michael.
if you learn how to listen, ou will hear. he has an amazing vocabulary. his break works faster because he is a genius so does his language.
Q , Bruce Swedien+ Rod Temperton = Off the Wall +Thriller... MJ came up with a few killer songs but he had ALOT of help.
The woman that is doing the interview is in too much in love with Q
MJ so funny....in a short interview i heard him say ''Genuwhine'' instead of genuine. X3
How do you know how Mr.Socrates pronounced it?
Wasnt off the wall the most sold ever?
right on
freakin mercenary 🐍
GOD BLESS YOU SIR! ❤️
God bless you too
I'm a huge fan quincy jones. I'd work for Motown.
He is Brilliant man an NICE XO
Alguém traduz para português?por favor?
@theone225 yes he does. maybe 'cause it's seminal?
Michael was a mega star before Quincy. Quincy was not a famous pop producer before Michael. He produced after working with Michael but no big success after that. So what does that say.
Yessss underestimate me and my drive skyrockets
When Micheal Jackson was Sued by some guys who said he stole their songs, Jackson won the case because the judge was tone deaf which means he could not recognize one song from another. This saved Micheal's but.
Michael Jackson is not a pedophile, support everyone to know ☝️
could you please put the english subtitles?:(
pure legend
@kapalpha Damn I never looked at it that way but I think you're damn right.
One of biggest mistakes Michael did was stopping to work with this man. This would even keep his life.
Quincy was the one who told MJ to work with Teddy Riley.
+clue104 tell me info about that?
Arnela de Noir mj wanted to work with quincy again for his 1991 album dangerous. quincy told mj to find a new producer that was hot at the time and i think quincy told him to work with teddy riley and the rest is history.
clue104 can you give source?
Arnela de Noir just go on wikipedia and search "dangerous (michael jackson album)
Quincy Jones I have written several songs I think you would like them how can I get in touch with you and also 3 Christmas songs would you be interested
Shame on you...you old goat!!! Michael thanked you in every chance. You betrayed him...to hell with you
Hoah...❤️
Michael Jackson is like a god to me.
Love Always *like a God.
استغفر الله
globalcitizenn that doesn’t make it any better
Henning Martinsen MJ was the 2nd Jesus on earth
Don’t worship people..
If it wasn’t for Quincy, then Michael Jackson would’ve been known to us as ‘that cute little boy from the Jackson 5’.
Rather than ‘that pop icon who raised and broke the bar.’
And if if was a fifth we would all be drunk.
i think that was ment to be a complement..he does look young for a 76 year old. thats a good thing.
Michale Jackson was father of all musicians
what Instrument did Michael play for you to make the statement , yes he a great performer., one of the best but musician i don't think so ,
Daniella Stuart go watch this is it he knows his instruments
So he new what he wanted on the album a lot of Artist now there instruments still dose not make them musician and dose not makes Ana statement factually true.
Daniella...when you see Ana doesn't know how to spell Michael you should know who you dealing with
Daniella Stuart Stfu anyone who WRITES, COMPOSES, and ARRANGES music is an musician playing a damn inatrument does not equate to being a musician it only makes you an instrumentalist.
MJ composed songs coming out of his head and would dictate them by using his mouth...His demos explain how he came up with HIS songs...MJ was a genius songwriter and musician which is why he sits in the songwriters hall of fame.
Research what a MUSICIAN is before you post BS.
Who's the interviewer? Robin Quivers?
What happened between 2pac and Quincy?
one of his childeren did also good during the 90's as a producer for ice cube, 2pac etc
Sometimes the truth is the truth and doesn't mean he is bashing him. But their is 2 sided to every story and Michael hasn't got the chance to respond. I wish he were here.
And you looked at him and said emmm🤔💵💸💰☠
