- The idea of a plain old tablet is nice, in a retro kind of way. Just because the Surfaces and iPad Pros of the world are being pitched as productivity powerhouses in tiny 2-in-1 bodies, that doesn’t mean all tablets have to be beefy machines. People still want tablets. Samsung’s latest Galaxy Tab, the S6 Lite, promises to be just that: a straightforward device offering good performance, a sumptuous display for Netflixing and, as has become essential lately, a decent webcam for Zooming. Plus, for $350, the Tab S6 Lite comes with an S Pen for intuitive note-taking and digital sketching.
In short, the Galaxy Tab S6 Lite is good because it’s simple. It isn’t striving to be a 2-in-1 that might require better hardware and multitasking software. Those looking for a well-designed, long-lasting and capable Android tablet will find the Galaxy Tab S6 Lite a satisfying option.

You can just turn off the "drawing with finger" function to have the perfect palm rejection. I've seen tons of videos complaining about the palm rejection of tab s6 lite without even trying to explore all the available options. I'm using Squid for my note taking and I got perfect palm rejection without any software option modification. IMO, this tablet is perfect for students as me.

Hey i am going to use my tablet primarily for note taking.but I really don't want to pay for the extra 100 dollars for the apple pencil. So this tablet feels like an affordable alternative. I don't do gaming neither do I do artisty stuff.
Any views about the note taking options in android(compared to notability and Goodnites) and the size of the screen
And also any views about how long do you think the tablet will last(I really can't afford to get a new one till the end of my 5.5 years course; so do you think will it be able to handle note taking document scanning and reading textbooks for that long.
Where is this in the settings? I haven't seen an option like this on my tabs6

Reviewers have to stop using Instagram as the example app for Android failing in tablet mode. Instagram isn’t optimised for iPad either. I’m primarily an iPad user, but the apps I’m missing on Android tablets are just missing on Android in general. Art and creativity apps are plenty fine on an android tablet.

Just because it's the same on the iPad doesn't mean it should get a pass. If the iPad was perfect why would anyone buy this?
John Macaulay my point is that they are complaining that compared to iPad Android has less optimised tablet apps. That’s a fair point, but Instagram isn’t optimised on either OS for tablet so it’s a stupid example to bring up, and every reviewer constantly does this. If anything at least on Android IG stretches out full screen, while on iPad it’s just emulating the iPhone size. They should use another app as an example. Personally in my experience using android tablets I haven’t encountered much lacking, except for a strong vector app like Affinity designer or Autodesk graphic. And for video editing if you don’t want to pay subscriptions, then Luma Fusion on iOS is your only option for something descent. For drawing and animating Android is fine. Note taking apps are fine too. Netflix and casual tap based games are fine. If you are serious about gaming why are you buying a tablet?

For note taking as a law student it is amazing, it makes editing bare acts and going through judgement easy as you need to make short notes all the time.

Not sure how Instagram being designed bad is Android or Google's fault. How's Instagram on the iPad? Oh the same. By all means keep naming and shaming them until they fix it, but blame who deserves it.

I just got this tablet and I'm using it right now. The writing experience is so good! I even tried drawing on it and it's so smooth. The pen doesn't feel slippery on the screen. The display is great and the viewing angles are totally fine. The build quality is solid and I also find that the face recognition works perfectly which is great. I'm using this mainly for taking notes at uni and drawing and it's perfect. For the price, you can't beat this.

@Ovadya In my case, I've only needed to charge the tablet at the end of the day and it still has like more than 50% left. So I'd say battery life is good. In terms of charging though, it's decent. It charges faster than my samsung J7 phone.

@@leenasaurusrex7401 If you go on the Galaxy Store you get get a free 6 month trial of Clip studio paint which is great, is like Photoshop but simpler and more intuitive. The Autodesk sketch and Adobe draw and illustrate apps are free and pretty good as well but are much simpler and you can't have things like custom brushes c:

Mainly got this for watching Netflix in bed or general media stuff but I'm pretty surprised by how well the pen is working so I'm actually thinking of using this as my main "study-book"
I got this tablet for drawing and its now my favorite way to draw, i also watch videos (yes im on the s6 lite rn) and its an amazing tablet it feels like it should be more expensive

She's referring to the reflection, an AMOLED display (like in S5e, S6, and S7+) copes better with that.

I am decently into gaming and I just got one of these to cloud game. I am so glad I got this instead of an iPad. I will use this for other things for sure but I just need a simple device with some boom power and the ability to organize. This is awesome. And I'm only half an hour into playing with it
What types of games do you play? I'm looking to get one, but idk if it will run Clash of Clans well.
@@quintonbekeur2965 I'm not sure what that is but I play hero shooters rpgs and racers mainly and it holds up well with geforce now and x cloud when x cloud is running good. It doesn't beat native but I play paladins on it quite often usually without flaw.
I fell in love with the tab S6. Can't wait for Samsung tablets with 5G support. Finally Samsung understood the tablet space. Even the lite model looks great. And yes the s-Pen is the game changer. Maybe I 'll upgrade to the tab S8 again. I hope more check this out instead of buying ChromeBooks and notebooks. They aren't buying iPads. The tablet market is declining instead.

I found this tablet at openbox when I was desperate to get something other then my phone for media consumption. The fact that I can use the bigger screen and at work is amazing. I also paid an amazing deal, openbox cut the price by $50 on top of its low price ($430 everywhere else, $399.99 at openbox. $380 total price with 1 year warranty)
The fact it comes with so much was the icing on the cake.

It's Instagram's fault that their app does not rotate, not Google's. Android API provides all the things needed to rotate, and it rotates by default. If Instagram's app does not rotate, it means Instagram's developers intentionally disabled rotating, probably because they are lazy to code for data restoration when rotated, because, when the app is rotated, basically everything gets re-created, and it is up to the developer to save and restore the state. Yeah, it's a lot of work, but they are a multi-billion dollar company. There is no excuse like "we don't have the time", for such a big company.

@@jazsyali1606 Yeah, I bought it last year. Experience is average. The processor is not upto rhe mark. The S Pen is wonderful, but the decice gotten laggy. Although I had got its MB replaced once under warranty, it still is not doing that good. I guess the processor is the reason. Now my son uses it for his homework, some light gaming and media consumption. It seems to be holding up for now. Still I would say Exynos 9611 isn't worth the money.
However, the build quality is good and S Pen is exceptional. But, after adding a protective cover and tempered glass, the weight gets a bit more than what I would call comfortable.
The concept of Tablets being “retro” already 👴🏻
Zachary Johnston i has my first tablet in 2005. If they wanted to go completely retro, they could add a resistive screen and have it run Windows XP tablet edition. Surprisingly the wacom stylus and a fold away keyboard is still alive.
Depends on where you live. Some countries have healthy tablet markets still.

Ordered an a8 10.4 inch and it couldn't even connect to my 5ghz wifi like it said!! Returned it and I'm picking this one up today 😎 mainly for my poetry and a few games.

Good video. I just bought one and I love it. The S pen is a cool thing that comes with it. I also bought the Samsung case that she shows here, it really is a good idea to have this for protection and of course for use as a stand when watching videos and stuff. All in all a nice bit of kit I would say.

The specifications on Samsung’s site say it comes with a 5mp front cam and an 8mp rear. Not a 2 and 5.
The few reasons i really want this particular tab are: my studies ( japanese ) writing characters using papers are so wasting and i can just bring this tab everywhere and second, i like to read manga, reading with my phone is such a hassle and my flip laptop is way too heavy to be comfortable, so the fact that i can read my manga on my bed without suffocating me like my laptop, is a huge win😂

They are 8MP on Rear and 5MP on Front! I had to check the Specs on Samsung's site to make sure. I have no idea how she made a mistake like that, lol

I will always choose samsung tabs over ipads without a care for the price due to 2 reason and two reasons only. OLED and better speakers. Idk what was apple thinking when they built echoing speakers in purpose. "Loud" but always distorted.
Just a point about being a audio jack diehard. I'm a Bluetooth headphone early adopter. I've been using them for work and riding my bike since Nokia introduced the bh-503 model years ago. When it comes to tablets though, I like to plug in my Bluetooth headphones in situations like long flights so they're not dead when I get to my destination. If you're just sitting watching something in front of the tablet it's a waste of battery to use Bluetooth.
1 or 2 seconds for face recognition is faster than fingerprint reader or EVERY other login option! It takes 2-3 seconds to fingerprint unlock - but only if it works the first time too. People should really think if what they say makes sense actually.
Nice to see that on a glowing review of a budget tablet, the comments are complaining that the reviewer isn't giving the tablet enough credit. That tells you all you need to know if you're on the fence about buying this.
The way you hold your pen is very cool and something I haven't seen before. I've been trying to get better at handwriting. Any tips?

I watch a lot of you tube and movies so as long as I can do that I'm good plus the s pen is a big bonus .
I've got the original tab s6 but just bought the surface go 2 as a productivity machine. The surface is great as a second screen/productivity device but at night the tab s6 is far better. I think the lite is a fabulous option as a basic media consumption device. Id be happy to pay less and lose dex and the keyboard. They suck anyway. Trying to use the tab s6 as a laptop replacementis frustrating. I'd save your money and get the lite version.
Dex for me is great that's one reason why I stick with Samsung
For you! I am using tab s5e as a computer everyday in dex mode. With a full on complete set up such as the mouse, keyboard and earphones. All 3 bluetooth. And it works very well. Oh yes. Not frustrating to me and many others.

Tab S6 with Keychron K1 wireless blue switch mechanical keyboard, and Corsair Harpoon Wireless mouse is great combination.
I just ordered one. I originally wanted a e-reader but needed to annotate documents and there’s nothing really out there at an affordable price. So I just got this instead.
This versus the iPad Air 4 and S7 would be like a war. I'm personally more of an iPad person solely because I AirDrop videos I'm editing to my iPad from my iPhone ALL THE TIME. But that SPen in the box is nice.

My new S6 replaces an S2 that ive used for nearly 7 years and first impressions leave me asking why its longer and narrow, Screen proportions leave me feeling dissatisfied ..

Phones will never be big enough. They are too narrow. Unless you get one of those fold phones which are very expensive now.
I like instagram on my Tab S6 lite, definitely prefer it to mobile version. I mean it's the same thing but on a larger screen. Or am I the only person in the world who has working instagram?

I think the tab has a 8/5 MP front back camera combo and not what you've mentioned (5/2).

Hi! i loved your review, I am strongly considering getting this or the s7+, but the latter is way too rich for me, although i think it is better, but I will be mainly using the tablet for note taking in class, without printing any paper and directly writing on the PPT file the teachers provide for us. My question is how is the latency when you do note taking? like is there a short delay when you write? or is it pretty fast? thank you!
I'm using it now and it's very good the only time it's slower is when you are doing a lot of multitasking

"google still has work, like the Instagram app just refuses to go to landscape mode" that's all android developers. Google physically can't force apps to have landscape mode or that could break some apps in random ways. Apple can't do it either

This will make me buy tab s6 lite.i'm user of old legendary Samsung galaxy note 10.1 with s-pen 2012 edition.this tab are similar but this most better then my old tab.coz of chipset and performance.
I picked one of these up just for the mere fact I am digitizing all my books and want a good note taking tab where I can view all my personal library. Also the micro SD is big, because all my anime is loaded on a 1TB card and the tab would be perfect for personal viewing since I handbraked all my anime into 720p. It will look sharp on a 10'' screen.
The front camera is 5 MP, and the rear is 8 MP. Not 2MP front and 5 MP rear cam.

Wow! A nearly glowing review of a non-apple product from Engadget?? But, I am surprised, that, in the honest review you left out two things that absolutely upstage the iPad: The fact that this uses USB-C AND, it can take up to a 1TB SD Card. That means this can take USB-C drives and also boost internal storage without paying for Apple's highway robbery of memory upsells, or have to stash a bunch of dongles

Although, I have a concern about it's longevity - how long can one expect for the galaxy tab s6 lite to last? I'd like to invest in a tablet for immediate and long-term usage (especially the latter) and I want to know if the galaxy tab s6 lite is a good option.

@@minipeeny9475 yea its pretty good I use it for normal gaming and stuff too and I get like 60 fps on most of the games the s Pen if not kept properly the tip will start bend and stuff so keep the
S pen properly and other than that no more problems

Got this tabl3t. The POS wont' turn off like any other Android device, that is by pressing and holding down the on/off button. Instead you have to press the on/off and volume down buttons simultaneously, and then the power off prompt comes up, but only momentarily. Damn Samsung for their holier than thou attitude.
