The drone scandal may well be a blessing in disguise. The women are overdue for a higher calibre coach. The talent in the group is there and deserves some better tactical expertise to carry them up into the top 3 territory. So exciting to see how much life/drive they put into getting out of the group in those conditions. Beautiful!

Excellent and insightful episode. We need one of you to apply for that coaching job. I’m still enormously proud of our team, they rose above a storm of controversy and loss of leadership, and got to the quarter finals. Now they need to build on that.

Excellent episode, and agree the Women's team needs to play more friendlies against high level teams, lets forget New Zealand for now!!😀

Thank you Rhian. 'Potential ceilings not being achieved' Jessie is the poster child. Fantastic athlete, great person, leader by example. But where is that brave, attacking minded player that exploded into the 2016 bronze medal game. Glimpses, but too often makes safe choices. Needs to be held to a higher standard.

Great show. The future is still very bright, I think Andy was using the super sub approach ...which is interesting bringing in top end players to attack a tired team in the second half is an interesting tactic. However Huitema / Prince did not really work in that game. Leon/Lacasse to start would have been better and Beckie to be that super sub.

NORTHERN SUPER LEAGUE!!!!!!! So great to have Kara! Rhian's technical incite is breathtaking!!! I've been a voracious fan of CANWNT/XNT since 2002,...like, obsessive and learned,....and THIS team leaves me with more pride than even the Olympic Gold. How about this,....healthy Viens, healthy Lacasse, healthy Smith, and healthy Alidou over Prince at 50% and Huitema who has been out with her back issue until just a few weeks ago. Bev won the 2020 Olympics with her coaching. She abandoned the team and REASON at the WWC, to an embarrassing end. We need to see what we have and not clutch desperately to players out of form. Stupid Choices.

I follow the French and US media specifically. The drone situation was a bit of a story the first 2-3 days but it died down very quickly because the focus was on the home team that underperformed once again. However, the US media is the one that has taken advantage of the situation by mocking Canada on an ongoing basis.

Yes, and even Emma Hayes made a negative statement about Priestman, which, right or wrong, was highly unprofessional.

It's one of the reasons I can't root for them. Their arrogance and smug attitude is insufferable. There are skeletons in all closets, and our "friendly" neighbours should remember that.

@@danielaesposito8315You must be kidding!! This was world new considering the drone gate scandal happened right at the beginning of the Olympics. The timing couldn’t have been worse for Canada and put them right in the middle of negative publicity all over the world. Cheating prevalent for years on Mens and women’s side. You have blinders on if you think it was just the US media talking about Canada cheating or maybe you just want to trash the USWNT!!!

They won’t be identified as professionals until they demand a professional manager who is not hired to be your friend.
Time to end the love in and start taking the hard road that professionals have to travel.

firstly, fire all the coaches and make sure the head coach never ever coaches any sport on any level, not just soccer. she and her fellow coaches has not only shamed Canadians but has stolen our inspiration and emotions we invested in these athletes throughout their tenure. fooling not just their opponents but every Canadian and robbing us of fair play and questioning the wins we earned in the past. this taints every single match these coaches were ever involved in. lifetime ban for all these coaches but the head coach especially. what a fraud. her lack of belief in her own players is also disappointing and sad. not having enough trust in these group of athletes is a stain that will never be washed away.

Was hoping that you would deal with the 'Elephant in the room' ie Canada played their best 45 mins of football of the tournament in the second half against Germany.....without their captain and 'best player'/athlete

I've heard pundits/analysts call out Leon for not scoring these games.. How does Huitema continue to be absolved from criticism when she frankly hasn't scored against meaningful competition since before the last Olympics even. Also, Olivia Smith needs to be not only on this roster but starting moving forward.

Canadian men`s and women`s senior teams are not good at taking penalty kicks ; build up for offense is great, finishing and forward link up was inconsistent. It will only get better.

A borader issue at play so to speak is the overall level of play in the women's game. When you look at the other team sports (basketball, volley ball, handball, rugby 7), the women's competitions are as exciting as the men's. However, when it comes to soccer, there is something missing . You can only look at the attendance for women's soccer, it is quite dismal, the stadia are quiet. There is no fervor in the stand compared it to all other teams sports, there is vast gap.

There's super fans in the WSL in England. I think in general, Europe is way ahead in that regard. Of course Canada is way behind - hopefully the NSL will help improve that.

Name a Coach who would be willing to step into this environment without a conclusion to the investigation and a definitive direction from the Federation .. do you really believe a top flight Coach would take the Job over the next 2 years

    • @robdorr1
      @robdorr1 Місяць тому +1

Yes I do because any new coach is going to have time to rebuild this squad and as noisy as any investigation into drone-gate might be, the new coach will be operating outside that noise and can help focus the players to be outside that noise as well.

I think the next thing of the CWNT is to probably disband this team cause of the drone scandal is gonna haunt them moving forward I feel sorry for JANINE and Jess they work too hard to be at the Olympics only to have the points taken away from them. I am a thorns fan with Janine and Jess on the Portland thorns team. I might be wrong but that is my opinion.
