I like the 12ga 870, shells are easy to find. The ultimate self defense weapon up to 30 yards. Very effective w/ slugs up to 100 yards. Variety of ammo uses. Great choice.

I live in Illinois myself (can't move since the wife refuses to leave her childhood home that she inherited) and I'm really limited on weapon options cause of the insane ban that incompetent tyrant J.B Pritzker forced on us last year. I just bought a Mossberg Maverick 88 Security model 12 gauge with a 7+1 capacity. Can't pick it up till either Sunday after work or on Monday though, cause again, stupid and useless laws make me wait 72 hours. I also have a Rock Island Armory M1911A1 in .45 ACP to go with it. Not an ideal primary weapon for if things go sideways, but it'll serve well enough to protect myself, the family and anyone else who needs help.
Also, love the Mjolnir amulet! Honor the Aesir, honor the Vanir, honor the Landveittir and honor the ancestors.

Buckshot for moving targets, slugs for disabling vehicles. Saw pouches on belts for ammo. Also run a ammo belt around your waist.

@acegunner7025 so the only thing I don't like about it is the fact that she kicks like a mother birdshot isn't bad but buck shot and slugs are absolutely ridiculous other than that I've had no problems

Speaking about rifles. I have been trying to get taurus to do the circuit judge rifles again.
Not the 44 or 45/410 ones. But 357mag they have a 8 shot large frame revolver all ready so they just need a longer barrel and the stock.
It would be nice to have rails on it for a light.
Dubble action the first 8 could be as fast as a sim automatic. Using a speed loader would not be as fast as a magazine.
But it would be faster than a leaver action.
Znd a 357mag out of a 16in barrel can get close to a 30-30 in power.

You ever think about a ruger American ranch rifle? I live in America and have several semi autos but I also have a ruger American ranch that stays in the truck as my get home gun. Granted you wouldn’t be able to run the 30 round mags but u think you could at least have 10rds and extra mags. It would extend your range way beyond that shotgun

Keep a water flowl ammo belt where ever you keep the shotgun holds 25 rounds.
If your mixing buckshot and slugs.
Have you looked in to the buck and ball loads? 6 #1 buckshot and a 65 cal round ball?

Good you have Brenneke shotgun slugs. Brenneke puts a lot of antimony in the lead slug. Antimony makes lead harder. The Special Forces model slug is so hard that it can go through an engine block. Fiochi makes similar slugs. I tested and like the Winchester PDX-12. Loaded with one each 1-ounce hardened slug. Followed with three each 00-buck shot. The one shot shell I always look for is Federal Flight Control 00-buck shot. Very hard to find.

12 is great for person defense and castle defense. It just doesn't get you true 2A utility. You have both and it's nice to have both.

My load out weapon is a ruger gunsite in 308 cal. With a scout scope and iron sights.
SHTF in Canada there is plenty of space here to dissapear and my bolt action scout rifle is more than capable of dealing with all predators on four or two legs.
    Shout out to Sasquatch!

Just because someone has an AR-15 doesn't mean there guaranteed to win the fight, shotgun=one shot one delete,it's also easier to hit a person thats moving with a shotgun

You need a limbsaver for the keltec. It'll save your shoulder and you'll be able to shoot many many rounds before even feeling anything.

the shotgun is the choice only of the ignorant. 12 ga shells are FAR too heavy, bulky, fragile, short ranged, low in penetration, awkward to carry, slow to reload, and the gun is too noisy, not feasible to use with just one hand, can't take it down and conceal it in your pack NOBODY is much good with $1+ per shot 12 ga slugs. Rifle sights ruin the gun for wingshooting and slugs dont impact where buckshot is centered and neither does birdshot. Changing types of shot or even brands of shell will change pattern widths and centers. Nobody bothers to check such things, but what I've said is the FACTs..
Get a shorty AR in 223, with a silencer, night sights, scope option, trigger job, free float tube, anti-cant bubble level, , 60 gr softpoints and 60 gr sub sonic Aquila 22 ammo. The Aquila is loaded into 22 SHORT cases. and if you hold the bolt shut, a GOOD 223 silencer renders such 22s BB gun quiet. You cant hear it at 50m on a quiet night, but it'll brain dogs, deer, men, hogs at that distance and inflict (eventually) lethal body hits to 125m. Shtf will mean that you cant make noise, cant have a fire in daytime, cant show a light at night, and cant be out and about in daytime, or youll get shot. You wont last a month if you do such things. People will want your stuff and NOT want your competition for scarce resources

what a joke. Nothing quiet, nothing that will pierce soft armor, nothing that will reliably deal with 50m cover users, nothing you can take down and conceal in a pack, nothing that is worth a hoot with one hand. When you get your removable carrying hndle 10.5" AR, 1 in 9" twist, skinny barrel, get night sights, trigger job, free float tube, anti-cant bubble level, ambi safety, silencer, 22lr conversion unit, 60gr Aquila subsonic 22 ammo, 60 gr Nosler Partition softpoints from Black Hills Ammo, qd, return to zero scope base, , 2-x 7 compact variable scope, with a see-thru mount., and maybe a 45 degree mount for a red dot.. Get a single stack micro 9mm of some type with a velcroed-in kydex front pant pocket holster. Load it with Liberty Arms 50 gr, 2000 fps solid copper hp., and have night sights on it.
When shtf, the pistol has very small role, so keep it small, lw, accessible, out of sight, out of the elements and out of the way of the rifle and your pack harness. Dont bother with more thn one spare mag for it. You can have velcro on the mouth of the pants pocket, so you can close the pocket for low crawling. However that means that you'll need separate 'extra" velcro tabs for when you want the pocket to stay open. such are easily lost, so have spares in your pack.
You can't carry more than one longarm for shtf, cause you'lll also have to carry 40 lbs of armor, night vision, pistol, solar charger, pack, food, water, shelter/sleep gear "spare' clothing (besides cammies and cap) The shotgun makes no sense. You'll have to remain hidden during the day for shtf, at least the first year. A 20m long tunnel, dug in 2 weeks after shtf, is the best answer. Scatter-bury a year's supply of food at your BOL. The BOL has to be in the woods around your local water source, cause you wont be going any further than that. There will be no using the roads or 4 wheeled vehicles, cause there will be ambushes everywhere..
You can bring in the oliver oil and peanut butter when you bugout, by walking alongside of a mountain bike. That's a way to have 100 lbs of such food, which is 300,000 calories. Since both items are high fat, you can mix in a lb per day of cambium, IF you dice, boil and fry it. 120 days worth of calories if you just hole up. Maybe another month's worth of your body fat. 6 months of shtf is going to mean 90% of the population will be dead. Tow another 50 lbs of oil and butter on a bike trailer
By the time you've eaten all of that food. , it might be safe enough, at night, to plant small plots of sprouts, peanuts and root veggies. So you might not need to have the buried grains, powdered milk, salt, sugar, Koolaid, but it would sure help if you do! Have to have the salt on the bike if you havent caches any. Dont count on getting any flesh food, other than maybe some dogs and cats or maybe fish if you've got a lot of netting cached out there.
