Wow.. those commercials really show that just about 30 years have passed by. Men still wore suits and ties. DamnisnJames Brown 50 years old ??!! I miss the 90s....it was the last decade of American dominance in economics and popular culture. We all know things aren't the same anymore.. This will rank as one of the greatest upsets in college football history
It absolutely did cost them the Sugar Bowl opportunity to win it. They would have still had to beat Florida St (who they hadn't been able to beat in forever), but it 100% cost them the chance.
The national championship in college is all BS anyway. It’s a popularity contest and wrapped up in the favorites and money. There has never been a true champion in college football and never will be.
My Daughter, A UT student in those days knew Priest Holmes since both went to John Marshal HS in San Antonio helped recruit Holmes. He didn’t want to go to Texas cause Ricky Williams was such a star. Marshal HS usually struggled in Football but with Holmes help made to the state championship game with Odessa Permian. Odessa won 28-14.
This Texas team was preseason Top 10 but struggled through a mediocre 7-4 season leading up to this game. But they had lots of NFL caliber talent and combined with a "nothing to lose" attitude they were a dangerous opponent. Funny thing is, in the Fiesta Bowl they qualified for by virtue of this win, they went right back to looking like a 7-4 team in getting blown out by Penn State, then went 4-7 the following season and Mackovic was fired.
Mackovic was an odd one at Texas, his teams always underperformed expectations/talen and yet he still somehow won three conf titles in a row. Thankfully the '96 season exposed him beyond a shadow of a doubt so Texas could cleanly move on from him.
Hook ‘em. Nebraska does not ever want to see burnt Orange again after Texas domination during the early days of the Big 12. Nebraska had to leave the big 12. Just never could beat Texas.
lmao god I love sour grapes from corn fans. Hilarious. Oh they were great fans when they were winning every week...oh yeah the great tales told of their class and integrity...until they started losing..then they became the biggest group of whiners in college football. Priceless.
@@dougrose7334 LOL, yes, Nebraska tears are among the very tastiest. Such impotent hatred. 😄 Fourteen years later and these pathetic clowns still think they should’ve been handed an illegitimate win before a full 60 minutes had elapsed. Was especially enjoyable watching Texas crush them on Sunday in the only sport they’re worth a shit at anymore.

This game, IMO, costed Nebraska the three-peat as national champions.
Definitely did.

@@docofswank88nebraska beat Texas is the 1999 game? Texas leads the series 14-4 vs nebraska
Ref leaned the ball back during 4th down measurement
Absolutely he did. Still remember how pissed I was. It was blatantly obvious he moved the ball.
It's crazy how many elite players that Dick vermeil was able to scout as an announcer for ABC in the 90's and then turn the shitty Rams into champions
Where was Ahman back then?
Priest Holmes is the only one in the whole game who had a great career in the NFL.
Phil Dawson....
Grant Wistrom and Jared Tomich both had great careers in the nfl
And oh yeah, Ricky played in this game too 😂 #11
Ricky Williams ran for over 10,000 yards in the NFL. One of only 30 players to do that.
Bryant Westbrook, Casey Hampton Ricky Williams, Dan Neil, Phil Dawson all say hi!
3:07:00 methinks Brent had money on Texas or a wider spread
Radio Shack lol
Makovich Vs. Osborne. Ole " Big Red " & Hook " Em Longhorns!!! The very first Big 12 Conference Football Championship Game. Live from saint louey!

One & only Big12 championship tx deserved against Nebraska

Deserved?you have to win to get in. So your record counted to get in. So your comment is confusing. And I am not even a longhorn fan.
