- The REEFER™ Peninsula series have advanced sumps with the following exciting new features:
• An adjustable height skimmer chamber that lets you set the water level (between 21-27cm / 8.3″-10.6″) for optimal skimmer performance.
• A “Refugium-ready” sump with two pre-set positions which allows you to decide how much of the sump you want for your skimmer and other reactors and how much as a dedicated refugium chamber.
• 4 micron filter bags
• RO liter reservoir that can be slid aside when necessary for pump maintenance.
* Please note that the interior of the Peninsula cabinets has a black finish.

I've had a reefer 450 for over a year now and couldn't be happier. Red sea was nice enough to give me free carbon and a set of felt socks at MACNA 2016 here in san diego. Will always support a company who builds extremely high quality and well designed reef systems.

Why doesn't the ATO reservoir come with a lid? The open reservoir top contributes tremendous evaporation of precious fresh water.

What's the reasoning for not putting the sump under the over flow, and the equipment compartment on the other end? Instead of running the pipes like that
Hi, The only discrete ventilation outlet for a chiller is against the wall. Having a vent facing your living-room is a big NO NO. (so said the Mrs ;) )

Why you guys don’t install a check valve on the return line where the hose connects to the pvc is something to consider, am not saying that the system doesn’t work cause never overflow in my S-650 but I think is better that way with the check valve.

why wouldn't they push the sump directly under the down pipe on the left? not the pipe has to run across the middle wall to get into the sump.
Hi, good point. If you run a chiller you wouldn't want to see the heat exhaust vent open in front of you. The compartment by the wall is open allowing the hot air to escape discretely and therefore the sump is positioned where it is.

The vast majority of our tanks are rimless, we have been manufacturing them for well over "a couple of years" rest assure the glass can hold the pressure. :)

I am seriously considering buying your 750 XL which looks awsome. My only concern is that the skimmer really should come before the refugium. Is there any easy way in which this could be achieved?
That's what the illustrated divider is for. Slide it in to seperate the sump body, and put your skimmer/reactor in the upstream compartment.
My only concern is the pipes going over the storage area in the cabinet. I was thinking about putting a controller there but I am a little worried about water dripping from the pipes.
We test all pipes for leakage. They all pass there since you have to have them there. The design has to be aesthetically pleasing.

I am looking to purchase a tank probably in july. I have been looking at the 425XL and the 525XL and leaning towards the 5' tank as of late. do you think those models will get a refresh with this new sump design or should i just pull the trigger and go 625XXL. i am assuming pricing on these are coming soon, as thats going to determine which one I can purchase in the long run. thx!
Once the idea of the 625XXL is planted in your head... there is no going back. So instead of waiting a year to upgrade, just get the bigger one.

the refugium is on the wrong side... skimmer should be before the refugium. do you expect people to skim out all their copepods? you should add this feature to all your sumps as well not just the xxl. the other sumps you push on people are terrible
It's just fine as the flow through the sump is determined by the main return pump's ratings, which in most reefs is about 10-15 times the volume of the aquarium vs. the skimmer's circulation of ~3-5 times. That will allow more than enough critters to float around and through.
it still makes more sense to not skim any critters at all. I understand that a percentage of critters will get through but how many people will end up putting the skimmer on the wrong side to avoid this? I know I would. If requested could you custom make it with the logical set up?
