  • Mochis are small ball cakes that bring luck to the person who eats them. They come from Japan and traditionally they are made during festive times.
    Their skin is made from sticky rice, their stuffing is more varied, it can be with beans, matcha green tea or fruits. I’m going to show you how to make the red bean sweet mochis.

    Has anybody tried this with other types of red beans? Are the Azuki beans the only ones that work? I can't find any where I'm from and I wanted to try with regular red beans.

    • @danielacirciumaru1663
      @danielacirciumaru1663 3 роки тому +4

      Update: I tried making it with regular, cheap red beans and the taste is very similar. The difference is that the beans I used were much slower to boil, I suppose they also taste less authentic, but it's good enough for me. I think I left the dough to steam too much, cause it wasn't as soft as in the video:( the sugar was way too much for me, they are unbearably sweet, but I like the flavor. Next time I will add less sugar to the anko paste and they should be fine. I also added matcha green tea powder to the dough and I love the flavor:)

      The beans of adzuki variety are the sexiest of them all no other bean variety could be compete with the adzuki bean, adzuki beans are on a tier on their own. However you "can" use other type of bean varieties but it just won't be the same, flavor wise regular brown or black beans have a similar taste to the adzuki bean. But for superior taste I suggest you stick to the good ol adzuki bean.

      You can add to any deeper pot a flipped shallow bowl heat resistant, add water and place the bowl with the dough on top of the shallow bowl (hope that makes some sense to you) and you will have a steamer! I'm Latina and we need steamer for several preparations, for those where I need corn I make a bed of corn husks on the pot, add water and place me preparation on a plate on top of the husks ;)

    Roll in RAW corn starch? How can we eat that? Normally, we fry the glutinous rice flour n let it cool to roll the mochi flour in! If u want to save time, you can find such cooked flour in same baking supplies shops. It's called "kow fen".

  • @Blue_Dawg_469
    @Blue_Dawg_469 3 роки тому +3

    Yes Mochi's are Japanese, but the ingredients are Chinese in origins. The red bean paste dates back to the Heian period when Chinese travelers visited Japan with recipes for steamed buns (aka mann tao). Japan adopted the recipe and incorporated meat and vegetables, however, Buddhist priests were unable to eat the meat-filled buns so they opted for a substitute of boiled red mung beans (aka azuki beans). Sticky Rice origins are from Thailand. 🙄
