Rodney, you (and Dr. Becker as well) were some of the first people I found when I started researching pet food about 4 years ago. Long story short, (one maybe I could share if given the chance to interview you sometime?) My dog William is 16 now and cancer free. We were once told he wouldn't run again because of arthritis and he's off all his meds and plays ball every. single. Day. End of 2019 we were making food for a few neighbors and in 2020 started Pup Plates and have gotten over 100 dogs switched to a whole food diet. So thank you. Not only did you share your knowledge but you demonstrate that following your passion, researching and learning, doesn't require any certain title or degree. Is your book published? I pre-ordered it but haven't gotten yet! Have you read Jean Dodds book on Nutrigenomics?
I'm so glad we are getting more research about raw dog food.
And side note, I think this is true for humans as well. I lived 25 years in America and suffered terrible eczema. When I came to Japan 8 years ago... my skin magically healed. I wasn't sure what to make of it at first... maybe the environment? the air? But truthfully, there is a huge difference in food quality. I'm eating a lot of non-processed food, and more variety, (and yes, a lot of raw fish and even the occasional raw meat). It's no wonder Japanese people live well into their 90s and beyond.
Though I am happy that more research is being done on raw diets, I wish they'd include canned dog food into their research as well, since it's content is in between raw and kibble (high moisture content, but highly processed).
No matter how hard you try to convince them, some people just refuse to feed raw, so I'd rather have a thorough idea backed with research to convince them that if they are gonna give dog food, at least they should provide their pets canned food instead of disgusting kibble. Kibble is just nutritionally balanced poison. Unacceptable.

Tell me what is the name of the research I will show it to my vet! She thinks that raw food is a fad and dogs die from it. But I will always feed species appropriate food.
This is 2021 almost 2022, i think everyone should agree and knew about this right ? There is no argue or surprise that kibble belong in trash only.
We have been making homemade dog food for our Boston Terrier with cooked chicken, cooked venison, green beans, carrots and celery. He is still existing some skin allergies, ear infections and feet licking. What recipe would you recommend for us to feed him to help these things?
Ive struggled with the same problems. I changed to raw food 3 years ago with veges, raw egg, and pumpkin. In February this year we eliminated beef and pumpkin added coconut oil, flax, pumpkin, sunflower seeds (grind the seeds 1T) she no longer chews her paws, ears are nearly 100% and her lame leg has no more inflammation.
Hi thank you for your content! What are your thoughts about WSAVA? I have been on the fence about deciding between Purina Pro Pet and Orijen. Dog loving redditors seem to swear by WSAVA saying it’s the most reliable source of information because it’s given by a panel of global scientists. It seems that marketing on both sides (smaller companies and large corporations) are pointing fingers at each other claiming that both sides aren’t interested in the health of your animal, but only trying to make a dollar.
Personally, money is very secondary. I just want to give my dog the longest and healthiest life.
What are your thoughts?
Also I used to give Ollie to my dog near the end of her life. What are your thoughts on that fresh food delivery stuff?
Of the 2 brands you mention, I'd recommend Orijen. Orijin has never had a recall and it's a high-protein quality kibble food.
Purina is owned by Nestle, a company with... well, I'd recommend doing some research on it. Also Purina has had numerous recalls.
If you read the ingredients on the Purina bag, you'll see what I mean.

i buy 'PetFresh' for my Boxer and he loves it.
Actually Pet Fresh seems to have mold issues and salmonella recalls. Look into foods that state that they are lights cooked like the brand Small Batch. I'm switching my 5 month old to their food or one similar, or I may just by a premade premixed raw balanced dog food. You can buy these online. Do your research and Google or join a Facebook group that states raw feeding for dogs. You will learn a lot from other pet parents. I can't even tell you how many dog FB groups I have joined over the years. I have a list of brands that I will post next for you. Let me go and copy from my saved notes and paste in a 2nd comment for you. I recommend you shop from smaller local pet shops or you can order online and they pretty much all deliver nowadays.

I hear conflicting arguments about raw dog food. I hear it's better for dogs and I also hear don't give raw because it can have salmonella and parasites.
Very misguided and untrue myth. You are more likely to get salmonella from dry food.
My dog has eaten raw food most of his life and still has terrible allergies 🙃
Chicken ended up being the allergy in my dog, once that was eliminated from every food item, his skin allergy went away.
Same. My dog was left with permanent severe allergies due to raw food.
I would suggest you do an elimination diet to find what your dog is a allergic to. If you are feeding something your dog is allergic to, then it doesn't matter if you are feeding fresh raw... You have to figure out and take out the allergen.

Yep I had to cut out beef and chicken. Shes much better her inflammation has gone its only been since Feb 2024
No real advice here.
Of course fresh is better than dry.
