    I have just discovered this video. I've watched the M1R and M1L parts so many times, and I think I've finally gotten the hang of it! Your instructions are so clear and the filming is perfect, as I can clearly see all the stitches and what you are picking up for the increases. I cannot thank you enough for taking the time to make this very well done tutorial, allowing me to increase my knowledge and become a better knitter. ❤️

    So I finally watched the entire video and how perfect! I prefer the fit of v-neck to crew neck and although there are a few patterns out there, they have always seemed so intimidating. I could never understand how the v-neck was constructed, how to adjust for new beginning of round, and was confused by top-down sweaters that did not start with ribbing.
    Your tutorials are truly the best out there because they go beyond standard instructions - you explain the reason behind a certain method which just opens up a world of possibilities. I remember your cable hat video and how from a magic number, I can then modify patterns and this was another lesson in mathematics and design.
    I noticed you did not do short rows - is that something that is not needed for v-neck? Thanks again for the invaluable tutorial. This ONE is a keeper. I feel that now I can recreate those varsity-style sweaters The Gap used to sell before their quality deteriorated.
    Thanks a million. You are a gem!

      Thank you for your comment :) At the first of all, I'm very appreciated what you wrote it here, very encouraging!
      I just want to do my best because I've learnt how to knit all by myself, and it was so hard for me to understand it without any reasoning. I really needed to know the mechanism, once I understood how it works, I never forget, and that way I can create my own pattern too. And I want people to enjoy knitting without any intimidation.
      Anyway, thank you, thank you, and thank you for your warm kind comment as usual.
      Lastly I would like to answer your question why I didn't add the short row for raising the back of neck.
      1. This is my first tutorial for V-neck Sweater tutorial. It took so long for me to make this tutorial, because I was struggled explaining how to adjust sizes. Because a lot of math kicks in. Math is my strongest subject, so it's easy for me, but not too many people like it. Anyway, so I would like to keep this video simple as much as possible, and see.
      2. The reason why it fits better if you have a few rows at the back of your neck more than front.
      Because there is a bit muscle under back of your neck. so anatomically you need a bit more fabric for the back of your neck, otherwise that muscle will be pulling the fabric a bit, and make you a little uncomfortable. However, as you can see, with V-neck shape, there are lots of space in front of your neck, so even the muscle pulls the fabric, it doesn't really matter. If this V-shape was so small, that's another story. Does it make sense? And do you know what? This sweater without raising fits me really well!
      Anyway, I wrote too long...
      If you have any other question, let me know anytime :) Enjoy knitting!

      @@BeginnersLUCKraft Thanks for clarifying. One more question for tonight 😃 I'm not clear on the increases. Is M1L2 the same as Knit Left loop? I found a video and just want to make sure i'm doing the right one. ua-cam.com/video/dNw5830AlgE/v-deo.html

    • @BeginnersLUCKraft
      @BeginnersLUCKraft  3 роки тому

      @@Enig_Mata Both video are correct. You use the previous stitch to increase. When you do M1R, pick up the right loop in previous stitch, so it's just underneath of stitch on the needle, that's why I said M1R1 (1 down from top)
      M1L2, you can't pick up left loop in previous stitch with right needle, so when you do M1L2, you knit the target stitch first, then pick up the left loop, HOWEVER, don't pick up 1 down this time, because the stitch 1 down from the needle is the one you just knit, it's not the previous row. So this time you need to pick up 2 down from the needle stitch.
      Well anyway, the video you put the link, she is doing it correctly!

      @@BeginnersLUCKraft Thank you - your videos are so amazing. I am so excited to knit another one - this time I think I'll add cables. If I wanted to make a deeper v-neck, how could I do that?

    • @BeginnersLUCKraft
      @BeginnersLUCKraft  3 роки тому

      @@Enig_Mata 2 ways to do it.
      1. Change the Cast on # - make it bigger which means automatically the back of neck stitches will be more = deeper, but if you don't want to mess with cast on number. Here is the option #2
      2. You repeat IR1 to IR4 for V-neck shape and Raglan line increase.
      Creating V shape is only on IR1, so I want you to add 2 more rows.
      IR1(RS): K1, M1L, K UNTIL LAST 1 ST BEFORE [MA], M1R, K1, [SMA] K1, M1L, K UNTIL LAST 1 ST BEFORE [MB], M1R, K1, [SMB], K1, M1L, K UNTIL LAST 1 ST BEFORE [MC], M1R, K1, [SMC], K1, M1L, K UNTIL LAST 1 ST BEFORE [MD] M1R, K1, [SMD], K1, M1L, K UNTIL LAST 1 ST, M1R, K1
      IR2(WS): ALL PURL
      IR3(RS): K UNTIL LAST 1 ST BEFORE [MA], M1R, K1, [SMA] K1, M1L, K UNTIL LAST 1 ST BEFORE [MB], M1R, K1, [SMB], K1, M1L, K UNTIL LAST 1 ST BEFORE [MC], M1R, K1, [SMC], K1, M1L, K UNTIL LAST 1 ST BEFORE [MD] M1R, K1, [SMD], K UNTIL END
      IR4(WS): ALL PURL
      *** Here are additional rows ***
      IR5(RS): K UNTIL LAST 1 ST BEFORE [MA], M1R, K1, [SMA] K1, M1L, K UNTIL LAST 1 ST BEFORE [MB], M1R, K1, [SMB], K1, M1L, K UNTIL LAST 1 ST BEFORE [MC], M1R, K1, [SMC], K1, M1L, K UNTIL LAST 1 ST BEFORE [MD] M1R, K1, [SMD], K UNTIL END
      IR6(WS): ALL PURL
      REP IR1 TO IR6 UNTIL V NECK SHAPE IS DONE
      Example) you have 30 sts total for back of your neck.
      30 / 2 = 15
      IF only rep of IR1 TO IR4 --- Original pattern
      you will end it up knitting 15 X 4 = 60 rows to finish V neck shape
      However new pattern is rep of 6 rows --- only R1 is the V neck shape increasing, so
      15 X 6 = 90 rows to complete the V shape.
      This way, 30 more rows deeper than original pattern.
      And you don't have to change the cast on #.
      HOWEVER!
      You really have to watch raglan line at the same time!
      You might want to stop increasing for raglan line before V neck shape, because now V neck shape is deeper.
      I hope you understand what I mean.
      Well you've already knitted one, so I'm sure you do.
      If not, let me know!

Thank you very much!

    • @BeginnersLUCKraft
      @BeginnersLUCKraft  3 роки тому +1

      Thank you for your comment :) To answer your question, I don't know how deep you want, but if I were you, I would like to do 2 things;
      1. Take some stitches from sleeves, and add them to back
      Now I have 11 sts each for sleeves, and 26 sts for back.
      I would transfer 5 each to back, which means 6 sts to start for each side of sleeves, and 36 sts for back.
      36 / 2 X 4 = 72 rows to finish my V neck instead of 52 rows.
      If this is not enough, I would start it with big neck opening
      EX) This sweater is based on my neck 17", but make 22"
      So when you make a plan, can you let me know? I would like to see your plan.

      @BeginnersLUCKraft  Рік тому +1

      OK, I made your plan based on your gauge.
      Your gauge: 4" x 4" = 15 sts x 20 rows
      Your desired neck measurement is 17"
      Your cast on # is 50
      After you make your casts, you will have to add some markers
      1 (front) / 12 (sleeve) / 24 (back) / 12 (sleeve) / 1 (front)
      Then you will increase at the raglan markers every right side of rows, follow my video
      For the front v neck increase is depend on your preference.
      Be careful! This would be without the neck rib, so when you add neck rib, the opening would be smaller.
      if you want;
      4.8" deepness: increase every right side of row - you will increase 12 sts on both side = total of 24 rows
      9.6" deepness: increase every 4th row - you will increase 12 sts on both side = total of 48 rows
      14.4" deepness: increase every 6th row - you will increase 12 sts on both side = total of 72 rows
      For the sleeve, I can't tell you yet, because I need 3 numbers just BEFORE you start knitting sleeves
      1. Current stitch count
      2. Goal stitch count
      3. the length you want to knit form the current location to the wrist before the RIB
      I hope you understand this, if not, let me know.
      Good luck and Enjoy knitting!

      Thank you for your comment and question! The Marker D is a Begin marker, Marker D = Begin Marker. So at the start, you need to do K1, M1R, this is the right side of marker D (=Begin Maker). That's why you need to finish with M1L and K1. I should've wrote it better way....
      The markers are as follows
      Begin Marker = Marker D
      Marker A
      Marker B
      Maker C
      You need to increase 8 stitches, but when you start the increasing row, you just increase right after the begin marker which is M1R, then when you come back to the marker D, you only need to increase for a left side of Marker D=begin marker.
      I hope you understand, sorry for confusion.
      Good luck and Enjoy knitting!

      Hi! I can help you for making a plan. I need your basic # such as your gauge, I need both stitch count and row count within 4" X 4" or 10 cm X 10 cm, Also I need your DESIRE neck opening measurement in round. Be careful here, I don't need your actual neck size, I want to have your DESIRE neck opening.
      Example, my actual neck measurement is 12", and I want to have a big neck opening, so my desire measurement is 22", something like that. And lastly I want you to tell me how deep you want for V-neck from top to bottom. Let me know!

      OK, If you want to knit this sweater, here are your numbers. Read it very carefully, and if you don't understand it, let me know before! You need to make sure you completely understand everything!
      According to your swatch and measurements.
      Your cast on number for this V neck sweater is 44 to start with.
      Add markers on set up row: P2 [MA], P9, [MB], P22, [MC], P9, [MD], P2
      You will increase 9 stitches each side of V neck = total of 18 stitches increase for both side to complete your V neck. which will be 36 rows total.
      36 rows for your V neck means about 7.2" height from back of your neck to the end of V neck.
      If this is big enough, just go for it. If you want to adjust this opening (smaller or bigger), I have to change your cast on number, EX) If you want a bigger V neck shape, you have to start with big number, however, if you want much bigger V neck, that's another story. So 1" or 2" adjustment should be OK.
      If you understand this, you can start this! Good luck and Enjoy knitting!

      If I don't have your knitting tension, I can't help you. Do you know what I'm saying?
      It doesn't matter which needle and/or yarn you're using. The most important thing to make a plan is your knitting tension.

      (EX) When mother ask you to buy 12 apples, and gave you $5.00. But you don't know whether you can buy 12 apples with $5.00 or not. Why is that?

    I dont understand what magic number is...

    • @BeginnersLUCKraft
      @BeginnersLUCKraft  3 роки тому

      Sorry for confusion. The magic number is your basic number.
      i.e) With this tutorial, my cast on number is 78 because this number must be multiple of 6. And there is an important reason for this.
      After I cast on, I started knitting with some increases, because my body gets bigger than my neck.
      And I increase stitches at the boundary of body and sleeves which means, I have to divide, between the body and sleeves with some markers.
      Here is the multiple of 6 kicks in.
      78 / 6 = 13
      This 13 is my magic number which is the BASIC number for dividing my sweater.
      For the sleeves, I need the magic number X 1 = 13 stitches each sleeve, total of 26
      and Front and Back, I need the magic number X 2 = 26 stitches each, total of 52
      Front: 26 stitches
      Right Sleeve: 13 stitches
      Back" 26 stitches
      Left sleeve: 13 stitches
      Total of 78 stitches
      Everybody wants to knit different sizes, so only this way I can explain how I divide the body after the neck.
      Because this is size adjustable.
      And I couldn't find the perfect word for this basic number, so I call this "Magic number"
      If you don't understand, let me know :)
      Enjoy knitting!

    • @rachaelwidi1976

      @@BeginnersLUCKraft Oh, I see.. But how did you now it have to be multiple of 6?

    • @BeginnersLUCKraft
      @BeginnersLUCKraft  3 роки тому

      @@rachaelwidi1976 Don't worry. Have you ever knit a swatch, and take a gauge before?
      When you knit a sweater, we usually knit a swatch (sample), because you don't know your knitting tension.
      Even with same yarn and same needle you use as mine, the complete sweater will be different size, because we're not a machine.
      Once you knit a swatch, you have to count your stitches within 4"
      Mine is like this
      SWATCH: 4” X 4” = 18 STS X 25 ROWS
      NECK ROUND OPENING: 17”
      GAUGE
      4” VS 17” = 18 STS VS [X STS]
      4X = 17 X 18
      X = 17 X 18 / 4
      X = 76.5
      I have 18 stitches within 4"
      I want to start with 17" for the neck opening.
      Then math kicks in.
      The mathematically, multiply of 2 inside numbers must be equal multiply of 2 outside numbers.
      So, my math was above, and it was 76.5
      But you can't do 76.5 stitches, and I want to have numbers multiple of 6
      Then closest number is 78
      I have a swatch tutorial video, so please watch this video, and if you don't understand, let me know.
      ua-cam.com/video/baVuwr-U86U/v-deo.html
      And don't give up!
      Once you understand this gauge, you will be able to knit your sweater close to perfect.
      A lot of people don't like math. But you need it!
      And if you want me to find out your cast on number and magic number, I will help, but you still need to knit your swatch, and measure your neck opening.
      Good luck!

      @@Monique-TheYarnCurator OK, I figured it out.
      Your desire neck is 19"
      4" VS 19" = 16 STS VS [X STS]
      X = 76, but this must be multiple of 6, so I picked 78 (this is pre-cast on#)
      Your magic # is 13, so your CAST ON # is
      78 - (13X2) + 2 = 54
      YOUR CAST ON # FOR V-NECK IS 54
      Now you have to divide 5 sections
      1 st each for both front & back = TTL of 2 sts
      13 sts each for both left & right sleeves = TTL of 26 sts
      26 sts for back piece.
      This is how you place the markers
      1 (MA), 13 (MB), 26 (MC), 13, (MD), 1
      If so, your V-neck deepness is as followings;
      You have to increase (26-2)/2 = 12
      Increase 1 sts every 4 rows - 48 rows to complete V neck
      Which means
      2" VS 12 ROWS = [X"] VS 48 ROWS
      X" = 8"
      But maybe this is not deep enough, because you want to add some rows for neck RIB
      If you increase 1 st every 6 rows - 72 row to complete V neck
      2" VS 12 ROWS = [X"] VS 72 ROWS
      X" = 12"
      8" or 12" from top, you should pick your preference.
      Either one, your cast on # is 54.
      The difference is how often you increase 1 st.
      If you don't like both #, you might want to change your desire length of neck.
      Not 19", Pick 20 or 21", and increase 1 st every 4 rows, something like that.
      Here is the latest video, this is the better one to follow :)
      Good luck and Enjoy knitting!!

      Merhaba, instagram hesabıma henüz bir şey gelmedi. Sorunuz önden V yaka bağladığımda şişlerime kaç ilmek oldu.
      Hatırlamıyorum ama V yakan bitince bağlayabilirsin.
