Marty your a gift from God being an a old cowboy the guitar is as important as the saddle it's a must for the camp fire thanks for your time and teaching
Ah! Marty you just helped me over a learning hurdle. I play straight rhythm chords with a friend on lead doing the licks. You just taught me how to do the lick added right into my own playing. Saw Steve live with a band a couple of years ago at a theater and wife was just scurrying back from the powder room saying when's he going to play CopperHead Road?!!! He was just picking up his mandolin and I said honey, perfect timing as Steve and his band blew the roof off of the place. Awesome tune. You play it just perfect. Thanks again.
A suggestion for anyone who is interested. Tune your bottom "E" down to "D." This really lends itself to major free-style strumming. The bass "D" rings all on its own for the "G" chord and lends to the Scottish/Okie thang. Mute the bass string for the "C" chord. Thanks so much for this Marty!
The best lesson for this song , this is the place to learn this song , simple , detailed and to the point . No bullshit , thank you well done sir and have a great day
it's so nice that this guy will take the time to chat with his followers.Alot won't or perhaps don't have time but even once in awhile would be nice. I got marty in my favorites and will be watching you a lot thanks buddy
Wish I'd found your channel long ago. Your tutorials are easy to follow, and I like the runs that take my playing to a higher level. The vocals are an added bonus. The song selections fit my varied taste in music perfectly. I especially love the classic rock, that I grew up listening to.
Randy Brown That's great Randy, thanx again for your kind words, I'm glad you are enjoying my channel. I too Love the classic Rock, it's a labor of Love and I'm glad you are along for the ride, good luck and thanx for watching.
I'm loving your videos Marty, they are always really helpful and you explain things so well without over complicating things and they always sound great, keep up the great tutorials buddy they are much appreciated:-)
On this one Steve uses the "capo trick" when playing with the guitar, where you capo at the 2nd fret, but don't capo the big E string. It gives you the sound of dropped D tuning, but you can play the G chord like normal. He does this for quite a few songs......Also, before Steve does that little D chord run he does an upsweep with his pick. That upsweep is really important to learn because Steve did it a TON in his older songs and it gave his guitar playing a very distinct sound, if you don't do that upsweep it will never sound quite right. Check out the video "Steve Earle Live Acoustic Show: 1991 Live at McCabes" and you can see how important that upsweep is to learning these older songs
Very well done!! I love how you take your time and go through each step thoroughly.. So easy to follow along with! your a great teacher keep it up!! Love from Canada!
i've been following your songs and style for a couple of years on you tube and you are the best by far i have seen for the way you teach guitar. So easy to follow and play. All the best to you Marty from a man in Liverpool England
Thank you for your kind words. I am very happy to be able to help you in your playing. Thanx for dropping me a note and for your continued support, Good luck to you my friend!!
Thanks for the instructions Marty. Great song, always wanted to do it but just never did....til now. Love many of the song writers you cover, CCR, Bob Seger, Kris Kristofferson, Steve Earle. I also do a lot of Guy Clark stuff. He also does the trick with the Capo on the second fret upside down as was mentioned earlier, so that it doesn't cover the 6th or E string, giving it a drop E effect while leaving the G chord normal, when playing in D. Guy and Steve were great friends along with Townes Van Zandt, Rodney Crowell and that bunch. What a jam that would be. Glad I found this video.
You are very welcome. Thanx for the info, very interesting stuff. They are some great names in music right there and yes, I'd love to be a fly on the wall at that session!!! Thanx for tuning in my friend, take care
Hi Marty, thanks again for a great song. I didn't know this one and it took me a couple of days to get the "hammering-ons" in the right sequence but finally made it. Even my wife said, "hey, that don't sound bad".
I thought it would take me a week to figure this out. With your help I did it in 15 minutes. Subscribed to your channel.. Now I'm looking for your DVD's.
I've been playing for nearly 9 years and i like to consider myself an intermediate player. This was one song i couldn't get down. Very good tutorial picked up on it within an hour. Just found your channel yesterday and you have videos on almost every band and song i like. So ill defiantly stick around. Some songs i play myself and its nice to see little tricks to make it a little better. Thanks man!
Marty you just blowed my mind. Great lesson, I've already got 1st part down working on the rest. It has taken about 3times ,but I'm gonna get it. I LOVE this tune. Can't say enough. Thank you very much.
I have never heard this song before but I totally love it, it is just loads of fun. I wish I lived in the States, I’d be bashing your down screaming teach me! Thanks Marty

I enjoyed this dude , it's the way I figured it out so I'm kinda happy. I have to say your tuning was pretty out man. I don't know if you picked up on it while recording but you must have noticed when watching back ?. Still you got a subb from me, thanks man .
I have found several versions of this some in drop D and some in standard tuning. Yours sounds the closest to me. I will be replaying this later to hone in on it. Thank you for this and thank you for adding in the lyrics because I want this one in my pocket and then some. THANK YOU!
Thanx, I'm glad you think so!!! You can do it, don't give up. Good luck with it. Hey I am trying reach 100k subscribers, please pass the word along about my channel to your buds, it would be greatly appreciated. Thanx for tuning in, Take care and Happy Holidays to you and yours.

it looks like you do a hammer on twice with the index finger instead of once like you said?? Love this song and how you do it, also you nail it on the singing too. Thanks for the lesson, I'll be working on this one
Thanks PartyMarty. I enjoy learning from you and the fact you finish by playing the song through. It would be nice to hear some of the other guitars you have on the wall and make a video of you playing a few songs without the lession in front of. Some of the ones you have aready taught us so we could play alone.
Thank you. You are very welcome, hugs back from Canada. Hey, I'm trying to reach 100k subscribers so please spread the word about my channel, it would be greatly appreciated

Hi Marty, Just wanted to say a massive thankyou... I've been playing guitar badly for many years but have come on leaps and bounds with your great tunes and online videos. One suggestion though - It would be great to have a download or screen grab pdf of the lyrics and chords alongside to print and play along with and as a reminder for further practice when you can't be online at the same time otherwise its just a case of trying to commit it all to memory! Great job tho - keep em coming!!! Best and thanks Tim

+jaber baber That`s great thanx for the subs, take it from a guy who`s played in many live venues, Pick 30 tunes from my channel and you can play them anywhere for any group of people and you will kick ass, they are all fun tunes that work in any situation. Just remember to not pick too many slow ones, and the slow ones you do pick are really great ones. I hope this helps, good luck and take care
Steve gets into Drop D by placing the capo across the 5 highest strings at the 2nd fret (drop E unless you tune down a note). This allows playing the G chord with standard fingering.
You are very welcome, yes, this is a great tune. I'm glad you like it. Hey, I am trying to get 100k subscribers, I would appreciate it very much if you would subscribe to my channel and tell your friends. Thanx for tuning in and good luck to you ands yours
capo 2nd fret (only on 1st five strings) and you've got to a hammer on/pull off on with the pink on the 4th fret...while using a flat picking technique. If you don't do all that you're gonna sound like a drunk open mic host at the corner beer joint...**edit I didn't even read the top comment before I post this...@Shane nailed it...

Ah! Marty you just helped me over a learning hurdle. I play straight rhythm chords with a friend on lead doing the licks. You just taught me how to do the lick added right into my own playing. Love the video good lesson . Im 38 picked up acoustic 5 years ago this is right down my alley. I Watch youre lessons all the time
That's great, thanx for your support and good luck in your learning!!

Ringo said it best: "I've got BLISTERS on mah fingers!"
what you need is toughened finger tips e.g. a bit calloused yes. Blisters not so much this will impede you fingers toughening up...
My friend my mentor god bless you buddy sending you and the family my very best wishes Denis 👍
Thank you my friend!! Hope all is well with you. I know you have been struggling of late. Know I’m thinking about you buddy. Hang in there and keep figuring the fight!! Take care and god bless.

Just remember to not pick too many slow ones, and the slow ones you do pick are really great ones. I hope this helps, good luck and take care
Larry Crane told me that this song is played in Drop D tuning, after I saw him and his band play it live.
Steve gets into Drop D by placing the capo across the 5 highest strings at the 2nd fret (drop E unless you tune down a note). This allows playing the G chord with standard fingering.
That’s the best cover of copperhead road I’ve heard yet! Great voice great rhythm! Nicely done!!!
Just to add Marty, this reminded me a lot of " Galway girl" another Steve Earle tune that you might consider doing for us, thanks again.
