I agree with you. They have more tone, and it comes through more so in better rooms than the one in which the video was made.
new drum heads from a mid-range brand or old drum heads from a good brand?
For me, it depends on the model / type of head. Some old heads from good brands may stay in tune better than a new mid-range brand. Some new mid-range brands will have more upper mid and high frequencies in the tone, which might be more desirable.
Thank you my friend, I bought a used drum set and came with Evans heads. I was torn between leaving these or buying new ones from Encore.
