Ventura Sportfishing for White Sea Bass and exotics out of Ventura County. A little early in the season, but the game fish were there and we got into some!!
We went out on the Dawn this past weekend on the 20th, for a 2 day. But the conditions got progressively worse so they shortened it to a single day. In the morning though, at Eagle's nest we were able to get a couple seabass, a couple halibut, and then about 13 yellows before we went after some rockfish. Rockfish was even not as good as how you guys had it, unfortunately. I caught a yellow, about a 20 pounder, sure fought hard against 25 pound test using an MXJ -- was worried my knots wouldn't hold, using the surgeon's knot/palomar dropper loop set up. It held, which was nice, also nice to hear the drag scream as the yellow pulled out line. Fishing was tough though -- used just sit at the bottom with a squid and game fish would breeze through randomly and would bite random baits. Hoping our next trip out of San Diego will have more excitement in July! Really impressed with Mikey's behind the back ling cod bank off the gopro shot you go there, LOL.
Briguy1027 That sucks you trip got shortened. At least you caught some game fish. Yeah Mikey "The Thrower" apologized so its all good. only hit the brim of my hat, so no harm no foul. Nearly lost my gopro though. Thanks for watching and good luck on your July trip
Rob's Fishing Channel It's all good Rob. I know Mikey didn't mean it. They are a great crew and a great boat. Dustin is a good and funny skipper too. I noticed you have some more novice fishermen on this trip, which must have been a blast for you to show em how to bring in a big fish. We didn't have any sharks and only a few bat ray strikes. Keaton makes some really good grub as well. Our club pretty much charters all of our trips on the Dawn. Ironically, the local scene (LA) seems to be hotter this year due to El Nino. I'm wondering though, what will be available when I go back up to Ventura on our October overnight trip. Could be some tuna and other exotics lurking around if the warm water hangs out there!
Briguy1027 I agree. In Oct and maybe even through December, I think this year is gonna be one for the record books. Im pretty sure the Yellowtail bite will go long into November @ Channel Islands. Looks like I'll be fishing all into Nov/Dec this year
