I was shocked no one on the couch reacted...as soon as I heard Mrs marvel and baby I let out Sal's famous "OHHH NOOOO"
At first I was thinking “Why was this story infamous?” Then Sal brought up them getting Ms. Marvel off of the team, and I literally gasped and my eyes widened and I said “Oh no! It’s THAT story!”

@@AnarchicArachnid I wasn't entirely sure which story it was going to be and didn't Google before Sal started talking. The moment he said she was pregnant I cringed. The only way to describe this story is Dumpster fire.
Tiff looks so damned uncomfortable when they get to the backstory of how Marcus get's into Carol in the first place. And I completely get it, because how she looks is exactly how I'm feeling throughout Sal explaining it.

I bought this issue when it came out in 1980. I was expecting an incredible villain, an epic battle, maybe an incredible revelation about the Avengers. I got a third of that. It turns out the revelation was that the Avengers are jerks and crappy teammates. Actually, I still have that issue, I read it and put it in a box where it has sat forgotten for decades until now.
One that was better burned or thrown away.

I love how you put so much emphasis on Carol constantly saying this was weird. When I first read this comic, I was too distracted, by everyone in the avengers acting so drastically out of character. For god sakes Hank Pym and Hank Mccoy are scientists, and Donald Blake is a skilled doctor. Why are they giving Carol pats on the back and supporting this? They should be questioning EVERYTHING?

In Kurt Busiek's Avengers storyline "The Kang Dynasty" where Kang attempts to conquer Earth, his son the Scarlet Centurion is revealed to be named Marcus as well.
And surprise surprise, he develops a crush on Carol Danvers when they fight each other. While the Avengers were fighting Kang and a separate villain at the same time, Carol and Marcus ultimately get stranded together on some planet (I think), and Carol gets PTSD from her encounter with rapist!Marcus. Fortunately, this Marcus is not a creepy rapist and teams up with Carol to stop the other villain, but Kang kills him for betraying him. While Carol does not reciporcate this Marcus' feelings, she does acknowledge that he was completely different from the Marcus she knew.
I love reading the comments and seeing multiple people have just collectively repressed this nightmare story from their memory

I believe Carol left the X-Men because they let Rogue join the team. She still held a grudge against Rogue for stealing her powers. I think Carol held that grudge even after getting her powers back.
I mean for good reason too, rogue not only took her powers she also left her in a coma and when she woke up she finds out she lost all her memories as well. I mean she gets better but I would definitely feel a bit resentful to her too

I liked Carol with the X-Men honestly, but yeah she ended up leaving after the Brood Saga where she became Binary and decided to be a space hero. Also, if I am not mistaken the reason Carol was saved by Spider-Woman was because Rogue had JUST absorbed her powers so she can go save the Brotherhood.

The Toys"R"Us ad also somewhat ruined one of my favorite covers from the time with Uncanny X-Men #138. All I can say is I must imagine/hope they got paid an obscene amount for that ad placement.

The run where she was in charge of S.W.O.R.D. with Alpha Flight was pretty good and it was over after only a few arcs. Then they just started doing random shit.
It's moments like these that make me happy as fuck they didn't force her into an era of the MCU when Whedon and Perlmutter were involved with her canceled debut: AOU.
It seems the MCU wants to pick up her pieces after Civil War 2 and other terrible moments and do something better (like Iron Man after Civil War, conveniently)

I applaud your courage for tackling this weird ass book. I'd like to point out that Hawkeye was pretty much the only sane Avenger in this story. It's kinda weird if you think about how he acts in this story and how Bendis writes Hawkeye in events, especially if you take into account that his treatment of certain characters is based around stories he read and enjoyed like Doomquest.
Now that y'all have done this book can y'all please do Justice League of America # 200? It is my favorite one and done book of all time
This story just proves that Janet is a horrible person, first this and then she reminds Wanda about her sons that she lost and starts House of M
It almost makes hank slapping her seem like a justifiable action, like why do the avengers remember him smacking her one time in a moment where he was mentally unstable, but not all the times she caused friction and issues with the other female team members.Some of which leads to massive destructive forces.

@@kr555wizard I pretty sure Hank in that story pretty much makes a robot to attack Avengers and then be hero of the day, so he's asshole compared to Peter punching MJ in the middle of the fight after some clone says that Peter not the real one. Also, Ultimates solidified this abuse dynamic.
@@donb7519 you're right, but Hank hitting Jan wasn't from the 60s, it was from the 80s (it happened a year after the comic they're talking about in the video was published, somewhere around Avengers #214).

Ok so “The baby grew into a toddler before my very eyes and is now trying to talk” could work GREAT for a horror story with better writing. Unfortunately “better writing” is nowhere within light years of this story.
When looking at your "ho-hum" faces I thought to myself, "this book gotta suuuuuuck"...but then the thought of hearing Sal trash it made me wanna click even faster than before ⚡🤣
Getting into comics in 2014, that was the "have the heard" story that threw me for a loop lol.

Thanks for all your content! I appreciate the honest takes on some of these stories. It’s comics, and comics logic is insane. Fun and funny, but entirely insane... reminds me of the days when one could travel to the local comics shop and have ridiculous conversations with random acquaintances.
My dad had this issue. I read it when I was 11 and even I went "WTF WAS THAT?!?" 🤣🤣😂
My mother got me this for my 12th birthday and a bunch of old at the time comic books for 1995 when I was going through my first big X-men Avengers 90s Marvel collecting phase. I didnt grasp how weird Avengers #200 was for years. Always loved the art though lol
I don’t know why but that page of the Hostess universe Spider-Man getting killed was simultaneously funny and sad to me. He seemed like such a friendly guy.

Do you know how invasive it must feel to give birth to a thing , this ‘child’ with no explanation why. Accelerated growth, physically giving birth to something that shouldn’t be there. That’s like traumatic. Not to mention post pardom and the fact that she doesn’t know HOW it all happened. She had like no autonomy in the situation. How dumb do you have to be to think she’d be inherently excited 😭

This was a really entertaining episode of back issues. I'm watching for like the 4th time.
I will be shocked if Tiffany don't just walk off the set when the "twist for this important Avengers story" is revealed.
So what your saying is, the MCU might not adapt this story because of "rape" and "rape enabling" by the "Avengers" who "Avenged rape" by buying baby toys and totally siding the with the rapist..
Yeah, this is the only smudge on Caps resume that wasn't Hydra related. Still better than Iron Man, because at least Cap *learned* from this and never did it again.
