  • If you watch my channel you know I use my 1X30 A LOT--well it's finally time for a review. (Spoiler: I REALLY like this grinder).
    Find this model on Amazon here: amzn.to/2stiIrs
    If you're shopping for 1x30 belts check out this amazon link: amzn.to/2Hemp7M
    Or buy at Harbor Freight or a similar hardware or home improvement store.
    In any case, the 1x30 belt grinder is the one of the power tools a beginning knifemaker almost can't live without. Here I review my much abused model and give you my take on why you should really consider getting one of your own.

    *This is exactly what I needed for trimming the edge of oak boards **MyBest.Tools** I also used the disk to round edges while building an oak - walnut cabinet.*

    I am very glad you made this video (I have been to one artisan's shop where this type of tool seemed to be central to his craft). Thanks!

      Cool. What type of artisan? I understand this kind of grinder/sander has many potential applications.

    I love how you have the extended flat steel top plate on the grinder. It obviously has new holes drilled into the original top plate but I would love to see a video on how you made the modifications to keep in on there so secure. Thumbs WAY UP ! Great video and you convinced me to pick one up at that price, hence why in eager to understand the upgrades :)

    Cool. I was hesitant to get one of these from HF as my first belt grinder. I may go ahead and give it a go.

      I think it would be hard to find a better deal. I've had a few minor issues with mine, but nothing I couldn't fix, mostly just adjustments to the belt tension, that sort of thing.

      As far as a better deal, for versatility I found this model, which also includes a 5 inch disc grinder for about $5 less www.amazon.com/dp/B01M68YKST/_encoding=UTF8?coliid=I1YC0PCYN69128&colid=10OS1AIF08GT3&psc=0

    Thanks for this and please keep this series going. Guys like you and outdoors55 with the no BS no rocket science approach to things is what I prefer. Yeah you can drop a few hundred on a 72inch but this little guy will get things done. Definitely picking up one with your link.

      FargoFX i defiantly wouldent recommend the grizzly. I had to spend a bit in mods just to make it work right. Id say save up for a decent one. KMG. BADER or mabey even make ur own. Ive got a video comin out soon all about my grinder . Mabey thall help ur decision (:

    Nice review. I use a good bit of HF tools. Most for me fine as a hobbyist. Only had a few that were total junk

    • @FargoFX
      @FargoFX  6 років тому +3

      I've also had pretty good experience with HF. I think it's a great way for beginners (like me) to get to know how the different tools work and how to use them. With more experience, we all learn what we like and don't like... that's probably the time to invest in higher quality tools.

    • @HodgePodgeGarage
      @HodgePodgeGarage 6 років тому

      FargoFX absolutely. And more often than not for a DIYer the HF tools work just fine

    • @billybeegle6653
      @billybeegle6653 3 роки тому

      Sure thing. You can learn what a tool will do and won’t do. Then you realize exactly what features you require in a particular tool and if the HF tool won’t get it done then you can upgrade, but you might just find the HF tool is satisfactory for your particular needs.

    This 1x30 sander is just what I’m looking for. I like what you did with the additional plate steel for more surface area. I did the same thing with my Mastercraft 4x32 belt sander but I welded mine on. I’m using your idea on how to attach more steel for surface area when it gets here. Lol

    Love the channel I was jus curious what are the specs on that metal plate and how do you keep it on the platform?

    • @FargoFX
      @FargoFX  6 років тому +1

      Thanks! I think that was quarter inch mild steel I got at Lowe's or someplace. welded studs on the bottom and drilled holes in the table that came with grinder... I think you could do the same by drilling holes in the plate and running bolts down through. You'd have to counter sink the bolt heads, but if you don't have a welder it would work. Another Idea I heard was just to use JB weld to fill in the grooves in the table. I think you could just as easily use JB weld glue the plate in place.

    For such a ratty little grinder, this one sure does get around. I've seen them in numerous YT videos and shops.
    Search here on YT and you will find a lot of user's modifications to make it a little better and more usable.

    I like the vid. You did a solid job. But in my opinion.... it is incorrect to call this a "Belt Grinder." Sure.... you can set it up to do some light grinding. But this is not a grinder. This is a Belt Sander. I have this one. And I like it a lot. For the cash.... you literally can't beat it. So long as you're not looking to do anything hard core.

    From experience, don't screw around with garbage, you will spend more time and money on frustrations. Better to buy a few good files before this shit, if you are micky mouse type and prefer toys all the power to you. Would not last one week, good for balsa wood models that's it.

    Why you guys have a channel just to talk because you want to be a host since a little kid and what you said tha you going to do it’s take so long that people like me for example don’t want to hear all the stuff you are talking. That’s why you never going to have people that will follow you. You have stop talking and make things so people learn. You want to be the center of attraction. Well keep on talking anyhow that’s the only thing you know the best.
