My Great Aunt taught me to crochet when I was 8. She taught me how to make ponchos. I still have that poncho 54 later. I belong to a group of about 20 who make lap blankets for nursing homes now. It’s such a relaxing way to contribute to the community.
I got a afghan kit for christmas when I was 10 . Mom said she would teach me but she was always working and never had time. The next summer when I was 11 one of my moms friends was sitting on her porch crocheting and I ask her if she would teach me and she said yes. I was so excited that day learning to make my blanket kit my mom had given me and I have been crocheting ever since....59 yrs. You can always find me sitting crocheting something for my family. The project I am working on now is my first cardigan for myself.... my family says its about time I make something for me since I always give my items away. I have made everything dish rags, scrubbies, doiles, market bags, afghans. Last year I started making wearables and I am loving it. I love your patterns. I have over 300 now and I am going to try to make them all.
Thanks for sharing your wonderful story. I come from a long line of crafters. However, as a poor college student, I was taught to crochet by a nurse while working night shift at a hospital. I wanted Christmas gifts and I didn't have much money. She taught me to crochet string snowflakes, so everyone received ornaments. It's one of my fondest memories! I look forward to trying the sweater. Thanks again for all your beautiful tutorials and patterns.
My grandmother taught me to crochet when I was 11. I sent her a crochet lap blanket when she turned 100 a couple years ago. Unfortunately, she has moved on since then. She opened a world of creativity to me. I am so blessed.
My GM taught me to crochet when I was 5 or 6. She was a tiny French Canadian force of nature. I am left handed and she would get so frustrated trying to figure out how to teach me. I remember trying to calm her down saying “ Nana, I will just sit opposite you and follow”. She finally relaxed and taught me a lot. I still have her “yarn blankets” as my kids call them and her doilies. So treasured! Many thanks for your time and efforts!
Funny story. I taught my gramma how to crochet! She specialized in sewing. Through the years created so many wonderful things through her sewing. She taught me how to sew when I was in high school. Years later she asked me if I would teach her how to crochet. It was a wonderful feeling and now a wonderful memory. She has passed to heaven and I still miss her.
My crochet story started at eight years old. My mom and grandma both crocheted. Seeing them crochet, made me want to learn. I am now in my 40s. A few years back, I unsuccessfully attempted to learn to knit. In the process, I came across Tunisian crochet, which I grew to love. At some point, I decided to try to learn to knit again. With the help of videos on UA-cam like yours and a lady from my local yarn shop, I learned to knit. I currently enjoy all three crafts and love them equally. ❤
I’ve not made a cardigan before and I’m itching to make one. This looks like a great pattern. I watched my mom and other relatives knit and crochet and I loved watching garments, doilies, table runners… come to life. They would knit, crochet while talking up a storm. Always much laughter. I wanted to be able to do what they were doing and was too shy to speak up. After I graduated college and was living on my own, I decided it was time to learn to crochet. Enrolled in a course with a mother/daughter team who owned a local yarn shop. They helped me choose an afghan pattern where each square was a different stitch. They helped me choose yarn. When I got off work, I would sit in their store with other ladies…crocheting and talking. There was always someone to help me make a correction. My fellow Crocheters and teachers told me when I finished that afghan, I would know tension, how to do any stitch and could make anything I wanted. Their support and boost to my self esteem is still with me 50 years later.
My oldest sister learned crocheting in school when I was appr. 6 years old. She taught me the basics of crocheting. More than 50 year later I started the hobby, found expression fibre arts, and I became crazy about crocheting.
My grandmother tried to teach me how to crochet when I was younger, but I never had the patience. when she passed away three years ago, I was determined to learn. I went online and started to watch as many youtube videos as I could find, and of course, I found you. Your videos have taught me so much.
I just want to start off by saying you’re such a lovely and a positive person. When I watch you you always make my day thank you. I started crocheting many years ago and I taught myself how to crochet, I always watch my grandma making doilies as well. I was very blessed that my grandma was so talented. Thank you for all your inspiration.
I was maybe 10 when my grandma taught me to crochet. It was special sitting with her and learning her special craft. I've really been going through some emotional, soul searching relationship issues. Magical gratitude and your upbeat positivity is so very helpful. Thank you.❤
I was self taught. I learned from a book when my daughter was little. So here I am at least 35 years later still crocheting and finally learned to knit this pass year! I am so excited to expand my yarn journey! Yes, I have crocheted many cardigans, adult and child sizes. It brings me such joy now I get to hand make grand babies sizes!
Oh, Chandi, my eyes just “perspired” listening to your story. My great Aunt always knitted and crochet for the whole family, but my Mom taught me how to crochet and knit. I was 5 years old and I remember, as all my cousins were running around, I on another hand, had a ball of yarn and a hook, and sitting somewhere in the corner, I was working on my first creation, a VERY LONG chain 😊. Thank you Sadi Glenn for such a beautiful design and Thank you Chandi for sharing your story. Happy crocheting everyone! Have a blessed day.
Yes I've crochet a cardigan years ago, everybody loved. My grandma taught me how to crochet I was around 5 to 6 years old I loved everything she made so I fell in love with this art.
My BFF taught me how to crochet. I was 30 years old and thought I was incapable of learning as I could not seem to learn as a child. My friend taught herself from a book and then took an entire afternoon to teach me how to make a granny square. She also taught me how to read patterns. Last year I made her a granny square cardigan. No pattern just made it as I saw it in my head. Her gift of crochet changed my life.
My grandmother taught me how to crochet at age 8 and I never stopped. She had me crochet a super long chain before she would show me any other stitch. I now know that helped me to have beautifully even stitches. 😊
My grandmothers and my mom taught me to crochet before I was 9. I did not crochet after I was 10, but when I was 45 I picked up a piece packing string and thought, hummm... I bet I crochet this... So, I bought some yarn and a crochet hook and started watching videos to help remind me. You have inspired me for many years. I am touched by your own personal stories and encouragement.
My grandmother introduced me to crochet but it wasn't until I was a young, broke, single mom with cancer that i truly realized the benefit of crochet. A single steel hook, inexpensive cotton thread and a single thrift store pattern book led to relaxing evenings not to mention exquisite dollies and a lifetime of joy .
My Grandma's neighbor taught me how to crochet when I was in grade school. Like you, I made so many doilies, then made Christmas ornaments for the tree at our church. A few years later I taught myself to knit as well. Working with yarn/thread is so relaxing and very rewarding!
Chandi, thanks for sharing your story with us. I was young (probably around 7 or 8) when I was introduced to crocheting. I was (still am) a hyper child that did not like to stay still for very long until I watched my Nana crochet. I was fascinated by how she took a strand of yarn and created such beautiful pieces (mainly blankets). I asked her if she could teach me how to crochet...apparently I may have been a bit too hyper for her to teach me. So, when we to visit her I would grab a crochet hook and take some yarn she would give me and I would watch her crochet before I simply just started crocheting. I remember the feeling I got when I opened my Christmas present from her, it was a blanket she crocheted for me. Each one of us kids received a blanket with our favorite colors. I still have that blanket today. Even though my Nana is now in heaven, every time I crochet I think of her and HOW much PATIENCE she really must have had to try and show me crocheting. I am forever grateful to her for sharing this craft with me. ❤
Lovely, the yarn, the sweater, the drape and the simple detail along the pocket, the cuff, the lapel and neck. Lovely♥🧶I learned to crochet when my sister said, "Hey since we are quarantined, lets go to UA-cam and learned to crochet." We did and I have crocheted everyday since, try to master the process. I have made baskets, amigirumies, blankets, sweaters, gloves, hats, scarves, shawls, wash clothes, pot holds, coasters, slippers, socks, headbands, flower arrangements, baby booties, bibs, outfits and much, much more. I feel in love with the art of crochet.♥🧶
My Mom taught me how to crochet as a child. In my teens, I used to make doilies too. I would make them into hats using a form and solution to stiffen them. Then I would decorate them with silk flowers and ribbon to hang on the wall. I made them as gifts. I got away from crocheting but recently came back to it to relieve stress when Covid started and when I turned 60! So glad i did! I still have never made a cardigan, so I'm really looking forward to trying this pattern. Fun! Thank you for making it available for free!
My first cousin taught me to crochet on a very long ago day, we were at a family gathering and being 12 years old was very much bored! Lol Debbie taught me how to make a chain stitch and a single stitch and even a half double stitch in that afternoon, its one of my favorite memories of being at my grandparents house!!! A few years later she moved back to California and I have not seen her since. But everytime I pick up a crochet hook i think about her!!! I love her and miss getting to see her, she is where she needs to be in her life though. Fond memories for pulling out and cherishing, Thank you Debbie for your hard work that afternoon!
Yay, this is so exciting! I can’t wait to start this project! My great grandmother, we called her Mommie, used to take care of me when I was a small child and couldn’t go to school. On the days I spent with her she showed me how to crochet. I used to just sit on the footstool beside her chair and watch her make the ups and downs of her traditional acrylic ripple afghans. Such sweet memories. 💕
I started crocheting because I came back from deployment with PTSD and the counselors suggested that I try crochet or knitting as a means of trying to heal, so I grabbed some yarn and started looking on UA-cam - that was in 2013 and I've never turned back. I now crochet dolls and I'm now trying to get into doing garments. Although my grandmother tried to teach me how to crochet and knit when I was young I never grasped it but, here I am and I'm loving it. I love all that I am learning and enjoying specialty indie dyed yarns. Thank you for your wonderful yarns and patterns. I am in the middle of creating your Secret Meadow scarf.
My paternal grandma taught me the basics when I was 7. My maternal grandma also crocheted and I still have a ripple afghan she made back in the 70s. I got back into crocheting over twenty years ago and now do it every day. I have no doubt that both my grandmas would love all the beautiful new yarns that we can get now! Lately I've been obsessed with cardigans! I have completed four over the summer and will definitely be adding this one to my collection. I made one for my mom last Christmas and she said it was the prettiest thing I've made for her. 💖
As one of five daughters in my family, any special alone time with mom was a treasure. She taught me crochet, knitting, and embroidery and i fell in love with the Fiber arts, Then I cam across your videos, and you turned a craft into a state of being. I still remember breaking down in tears watching your Find your Path video! it always gets me. Thank you for what you do and a big hello to Tim. You guys are great!
My great grandmother patiently taught me to knit, but I didn’t keep it up so I forgot. Then I learned to crochet from a girl in the dorm room next to mine and I haven’t stoped since. I have been crocheting for over 40 years now and still love it. Thank you Chandi for sharing your time and talents as well as that of others on your channel. ❤
Hi Chandi! In late 2015 I had just learned to knit, taught by my MIL, and wanted to learn crochet as well. I searched "how to crochet" on UA-cam and your video came up! It's literally how I found you! I've been on SUCH a fun and truly life-altering journey ever since with fiber arts and it makes me SO happy to be a part of this community :).
My mother taught herself how to crochet and knit, then taught my sister and I how to crochet. I’ve enjoyed both for many years. Thanks so much for your encouragement and energy. So glad I found your channel! ❤️ 🧶
I’ve never made a cardigan, but I have knit a few pullover sweaters and crocheted 2 summer tops. I look forward to trying this pattern! I just have to say that I love receiving your texts. I can’t begin to describe what a difference it makes in my day to wake up to find your beautiful encouraging words. I think we all need a little positivity and encouragement in our lives. ❤
I’ve yet to make a crochet cardigan but I’m thinking this beautiful Thaw cardigan is right up my alley! I began crocheting seriously after my hubby had a post surgical stroke. It was a long 8 years of care giving and crochet was the one thing that kept me sane. Now I crochet while working through a new life without my hubby.
I started to crochet as a child . My Mom showed me how. So I loved linen hankies and I made them prettier by crocheting around the edges. They were the most beautiful things that 8 year old ever made. I still have one!
Both of my grandmothers crocheted. One did very fine work, such as dollies, the other, blankets. The one who made blankets was the one who taught me as a child. She taught all her own children, including my father, as well as her grandchildren. By the time I got to my twenties, I stopped. But I started again when I became a grandmother myself. Since finding crocheters such as yourself on the internet, I've learnt so much more about the craft.
My grandmother taught me to crochet with steel hooks and crochet thread when I was 9 or 10, well over 50 years ago. Like you, I made lots of doilies and other small pieces, including outfits for my dolls. I then began using regular hooks to make afghans and bedspreads. In high school I started knitting, making my first cardigan. I also sew, spin and do other fiber arts. The process of creating a wearable item can be a magical journey, and in many ways mirrors life itself.
Growing up, I spent a lot of time with my grandmother. When I was 4, she taught me to crochet. As my life got busier, I always made to to keep yarn and hooks and take time to crochet. I used to mainly crochet baby blankets and layette sets for babies and friends and families. It wasn't until my children stopped needing me as much that I began crocheting other things. I love crocheting shawls and started testing patterns for some of my favorite designers. I taught myself to knit recently. I want to start working on knit and crochet patterns that show the similarities as well as differences between the two techniques. Thank you, Chandi, for being such an inspiration. I look forward to every pattern and video you release. And the yarn I buy from you is always so beautiful (sometimes too beautiful, I have hard times finding patterns worthy enough).
My mom taught me how to crochet when I was pretty young. She made doilies and table runners with crochet thread with tiny crochet hooks. I loved her creations and that encouraged me to follow my own creative journey. I find it so relaxing and fun to create beautiful creations from yarn.
My crochet story started way way way back when I was about 10 years old - my Mom taught me how to do a Granny Square and I made a small blanket for my dolly. My first big blanket came a few years later when the desire to have something to keep my hands busy during a long school break, I used pretty Autumn colours and made it fit a single bed. Fast forward to now, I'm a whole lot older and the desire to always have busy hands has never left me ...... I knit and crochet. My latest crochet blanket is in progress, I am using Opal sock yarns and making moss stitch squares. It was on hiatus for the summer, but now that temperatures are dropping I'll get the squares out and start planning on putting them together. Have a great weekend Chandi.
My mom and my grandma crocheted. I learned to knit first, at 8. I took up crocheting at 11. I am now 63. I have taught others to knit and crochet. Love your yarns!
My mom taught me as a preteen and my first project was a pastel rainbow ripple afghan I still have. I loved it and made the same pattern as gifts in my teens. 40 years later I’m crocheting all kinds of things, including 2 cardigans. Thanks, Mom!!
My neighbor, Mary, taught me to crochet about 30 years ago. She loved making granny square blankets and also mile a minute afghans. She taught me the mile a minute pattern and that was my first project. I sit and crochet or knit every chance I get. I love your patterns and videos ❤
I have never made a crochet cardi, but I've knitted them. I taught myself to crochet in high school, I always loved making things. Then, after college, I learned to knit. Been making things ever since, it's so cathartic and fun. Thank you for all the amazing work you do, you've inspired me countless times. 🧡
Thank you so much for sharing your story, Chandi! My grandma used to knit and crochet all the time, but by the time I came along, her hands were too arthritic to continue. About 10 years ago, I was looking at one of her heirloom blankets she had given my mom and thought how cool that she made that with her hands. Every piece touched by her. I asked my mom for Christmas to get me a crochet book and some yarn and hooks and off I went teaching myself. I was then able to bring my first (very tight!) scarf to show my grandma. She was so happy to see it and then taught me how to loosen my tension and relax. Now I share all of my creations with her to get her feedback, and it's been a wonderful journey. Thank you so much for bringing this pattern to us and sharing your story. This cardigan is beautiful!
I started crocheting in 2015 whilst having chemo and needed something to do and was helped by my 93 year old friend. Crocheting is very meditative, addictive and takes my mind off of things. 😊
I have not crocheted a cardigan yet, but I definitely want to. So many cute cardigans to choose from! My grandmother taught me how to crochet when I was about 12. I loved it and began crocheting a baby blanket for a family I babysat for. I continued to make blankets to give as gifts but once I started working, I did not have much time to crochet as I had to bring work home from my job. Two years ago, I had surgery that kept me off my feet for several months and that's when I started to take up crocheting again. I am so happy to be crocheting again!
My mother crochets washcloths and scarves. I wanted her to teach me to crochet shortly after I taught myself to knit. I struggled to hold the yarn properly for crochet. I kept on holding as I would to knit. We laughed so hard together. We hadn't laughed like that together in a long, long time. I still look back at that moment, and it makes me so happy. I went home and taught myself over several youtube videos. I haven't made a cardigan yet, but I have to make this one! I've decided not to let challenging things hold me back anymore.
My mother taught me to crochet when I was only 10 years old. She had me sit in front of her to be able to see how to do it (I'm left handed). I have been crocheting now for over 55 years and I never had the confidence to make a cardigan. Your projects give me the confidence to make anything other than a blanket or amigurumi. Thank you for helping my confidence.
My crochet story started when a client gave me a super cute heart shaped hot pad as a gift. I love it so much! The next year she offered an intro class at a yarn store told me I was a natural. During this journey my brother took up knitting and now we share yummy soft yarn and have a lot of fun showing our pieces to each other. I've never made a cardigan. That cardigan inspired me to make one. That yarn is soooo gorgeous 🥰
My Grandmother taught me the basics of crochet around the age of 10. I didn't really do much until I was in my early 20s and bought a book and taught myself how to read patterns and my first item I made was a ripple afghan and I took it home with me and showed it to her and she was impressed and said I had done a wonderful job and it just kept going from there and I am so thankful I learned from her. I have crocheted a cardigan in the past.
When I was a little girl, while on summer vacation, I used to watch my grandmother crochet doilies without any pattern, just making it up as she went. I was fascinated by her creativity and all the pretty things she could make. When I got a little older, I decided to teach myself. I got some secondhand tiny metal hooks and found some crochet books at the bookstore. The books contained some doily patterns (diagrams only) and had stitch descriptions at the end with little drawings. This is how I learned, first practicing the stitches how they were described, with my tiny hook and some crochet thread, then trying my hand at a doily pattern. Challenging but so much fun!
My grandma taught me when I was in 2nd grade. I would crochet long chains after that using my fingers and then big granny square blankets. Now it is a part of my everyday and gives me a sense of peace and productivity
A friend of my moms taught me to crochet when I was about 9 years old. I was always in awe of the things she made. Cardigans are one of the things I truly love to make. That said I too am a huge fan of doilies and love making them. I just love crochet.
Thank you for sharing your story! My grandmother taught me how to crochet as a young girl, and I recently started to crochet again after the birth of my first child. She passed away 3 months ago; it's comforting because it reminds me of her 😌
I started crocheting as a kid because my Mom did. She only made one pattern over and over - a zigzag striped blanket. We had them on each of the beds, and on the couches and chairs, and she gave them as gifts. 40+ years later and here I am!
My aunt taught me how to crochet when I was about 8 or 9. The first thing I made was a blanket for one of my dolls. It was askew and imperfect, but I made it all myself and I was very proud of it. Crochet has been part of my life ever since!
my mom taught me when i was 14, but then I put it down for many years, but about 20 years ago, my sister started crocheting, and she retaught me! i have been crocheting ever since. I also have taught myself knitting, but I am still a newbie for that. I love them both, want to learn weaving next. Now I make my mom items as much as I can. I just finished my first cardigan, it was one of your patterns, I believe, Marine? I have received compliments in public about it, and only want to make more! You are my inspiration, next to my mother and sister, thank you for all you give.
I taught myself to crochet just after my oldest daughter was born, she will be 50 tomorrow and by using your youtube channel, she taught herself to knit...I just want to Thank You for being such an inspiration to so many and for helping to revive a lost art...I've made numerous articles of clothing and have used several of your patterns and will be using this one as well
I learned to crochet many, many years ago in my early 20’s from a neighbor’s mom, who taught me to make granny stitch afghans. It was the only thing I knew to make and maybe made one or two. But then life moved on, I had kids, worked hard and had very little time for crafts. Then I retired several years ago and had lots of time on my hands. I decided to try crochet again but was very nervous. My stitch count had never seemed to line up. But I got on UA-cam watching tutorials and started simple with dishcloths, scarfs and other very simple items. I gradually got adventurous and worked my way up to complex patterns and garments and have since made cardigans and pullover sweaters of several types. I also taught myself to knit, but my passion is really with crochet. Now I’m a yarn addict! I will definitely be making this adorable cardigan in the near future.
UA-cam taught me to crochet a little over 2 years ago. I needed something to help with my depression and anxiety. I cannot WAIT til I have the talent and skills to make a beautiful Cardigan or top. This design is so beautiful!
I was very young around 5 and I used to watch my aunt, she was a wonderful person in my life taught me to speak Arabic, crochet and all about natural herbs and cooking. I miss her so much. I have crochet many cardigans and plan on doing this one too since cardigans are my most favorite item.
My grandma taught me when I was about 10 years old, then i didn't really pick it up again until Covid, at which time I re-taught myself how with watching UA-cam videos. I've never made a sweater or a wearable, I generally make blankets and donate them or give them as gifts. I truly would love and appreciate the opportunity to make your beautiful cardigan for myself. The yarn looks absolutely stunning !! It's also my favorite color 😊💞🩵💚🤗
I learned from my mom as a little girl. Then in seventh grade home economics class we had to make a project and I made a granny square afghan ( which I still have) I’m 65. It’s so relaxing and I love the creativity we get to make out of yarn. This looks doable. Love the color as well. Thank you always. ❤
I have 2 cardigans and was taught to crochet from my Paternal Grandmother when I was 10, it’s the one of the most wonderful things I’ve ever learned. ❤️
Beautiful 🤩 you are a beautiful soul! My crochet journey began after the passing of my younger brother. A dear friend thought fiber arts would pull me through, tried her best to teach me how to knit. We ended up loom knitting, but the yarn! That’s what grabbed me. The colors and fibers pulled me back to life. UA-cam tutorials (Jayda InStitches, Mikey, YOU, the list keeps growing) taught me to crochet and eventually Tunisian crochet, which is best of both worlds. I’m hooked and I can’t stop. 😂 Fiber arts have been very healing for all life challenges. Love and peace. 💜🌸
I have 3 boys. One of them wanted to learn to crochet. He is 38 now and still enjoys it. I have also taught several of their girlfriends to crochet. One of them is just such an amazing fiber artist! Not only crocheting, but quilting too! I am so happy I was able to pass it down. Hopefully, I'll be able to teach my granddaughter, too!
What a gorgeous cardigan. I love the dark, rich teal shade. I'm not sure when I started. My mother knitted, and I learned to knit from her. But crochet, I think I just dove in at a younger age and taught myself to do it. Now, in my silver years, I crochet at least a couple of hours a day, making everything from sweaters to afghans. You are such an inspiration. Thank you so much for your beautiful yarns, patterns, and tutorials.
My Mama taught me to crochet. I was 9 years old and was so mesmerized watching her that I just had to learn. Since then I have not only made cardigans for me, but I made cardigans for my beautiful Mama. 😀
My mother taught me to crochet when I was also about 12 years old. A few years ago (55) I too learned making doilies and blankets. This is such a simple but beautiful cardigan.
My mother taught my younger sister and I to crochet when we were about 11 and 10. In my early twenties, I learned to knit from an article in Women’s Day magazine and knitting became my first love. It’s my go to when I want to relax. I’ve recently picked up my crochet hooks again because my 10 year old great niece and her brother want to learn this wonderful craft.
I learned to crochet when I was 12 from a friend's Mom. I love the challenge of new projects. I just taught my sister how to crochet @ 67😊 It's never too late to learn.
Thanks for the pattern!! I learned to crochet when I was 10. My sister and I spent the summer in Virginia, with my aunt and her family. Her neighbor taught me to crochet. That was 55 years ago, and since then, I've moved from working only with acrylic to using wool, bamboo, alpaca, etc. I have crocheted cardigans before. I love your designers, and your creativity in the yarns and colorways. Thank you, Chandi!
Love for creating has always been a part of me. I was 8 when my Nonna taught me to crochet. I practiced a long time, and finally got into my rhythm. As I explored more about fine tuning crochet, I learned about the tools that can help and began making blankets. Later, i learned to knit but felt it was difficult with the yarn in the "wrong" hand. 😂 So I explored different styles of knitting and have had the best success with Norwegian style. That said, my love has grown for both! Learning new techniques, new stitches, and combinations of stitches has helped me. Thankfully, Chandi, your YT videos and yarns have brought me joy, too! Grazie mille!
I started granny square when I was a child & later in my late teen I switch to knitting. I’ve knit for over 40 + years now but only discover crochet about 10 years while taking a classes on how to add crochet with beads. I’ve been hooked ever since. I love that there’s no live stitches to loose. Crochet is very travel friendly & also very easy to adjust your gage as your work. I have done a few oversized cardigan but I would love to have a more fitted one. This cardigan looks very nice & easy to make.
I started crocheting back in high school with the granny square craze. I put it down until after I retired and decides to become bistitchual (knitter and crocheter). These days I always have a crochet project going. This pattern finally sparked my desire to do a crochet cardigan. The color you had it made in is scrumptious.
My mom used to crochet doilies, tablecloths etc and I would always watch her and probably she showed me the basics at some point but I didn't follow it up. During the covid quarantine however, when everyone was trying out new hobbies, I saw a video about how to crochet an infinity scarf and decided to try. I asked my mom for hooks and yarn and thus, my journey into this magical world started! I've since discovered your beautiful patterns and have tried several of them; they all come out great!! Thanks a lot for everything!!
My mother taught me to crochet when I was about 6 years old. She loved to make doilies! There were doilies all over our house and the houses of our extended family, who she always gifted to! It was only a few years ago that I picked up my needles again. I am obsessed with making garments and bags.
My crochet journey started by me watching my friend crochet but she was right handed and I'm left-handed. I got myself a hook and some yarn and watched her crochet. She tried to teach me how to hold the hook but I couldn't get it, so I told her I would just watch and I would hold it my way. Anyway I started to crochet this ziz zig stitch but since I couldn't read patterns at time it didn't go that well. I bought some beginners crochet books and taught myself how to read patterns. After that I was hooked. I love to crochet but I have never made a cardigan and I would love too. The cardigan you are wearing is beautiful and I love the color. I really loved your story it was beautiful. Thank you for the encouragement.
Almost everything I learned about crochet and knitting came from UA-cam. I crocheted my first cardigan last year. Even though it uses up more yarn, I still think it’s faster to crochet than knit. I don’t enjoy purling so I’m more reluctant to start a knit cardigan. Thanks for continuing to be our muse by sharing so many great patterns.😊
My Uncle Leon was always crocheting, and I would sit and watch him during our family visits. One day he asked me and a couple of my cousins who were there for one of our regular family get togethers if we wanted to learn how to crochet. I was the only one who took him up on it. My first project was a Navajo type blanket in red, black and white. My mom also crocheted so she taught me along the way too. I taught myself how to read patterns, and I even dabbled at knitting. I want to learn to knit again - it's on my vision board for 2025 and I can't wait to try!
I taught myself how to crochet 50+ years ago when I was in high school and have been crocheting on and off since then. I came back just about a year ago and am loving it more than ever. I’ve made two cardigans this year. My first hexi cardigan and a different pattern of alongish one using a beautiful blown alpaca yarn. The Aruba Buttery Sport yarn you’ve used for the Thaw Cardigan is absolutely beautiful! The color is stunning! 🦋
I started late with crochet, my daughter asked me to get her an amigurumi kit. She gave up so easily and I end up doing it, and like it! So I started looking for crochet patterns here on UA-cam and stumbled on your site, oh I love your presentation, your patterns , choices of yarn colors and your calming and inspiring words got me hooked ! Thank you for sharing your gift to us.
I learned to crochet when I was 5 or 6. My great aunt taught me. I continued throughout my life, on & off. Unfortunately, I didn't learn to read a pattern until UA-cam. Now with that added skill & the ability to spin a whole new world opened to me. Next I will learn to knit.
My grandmother taught me to crochet when I was 9. My mother also could crochet, but I was left-handed, so my grandmother took on the challenge. Took patience, but I got it and just love it.
I started crocheting late in life. When I finished home educating my four children I decided to do something for me since I now have more time and I learned by watching you and others on UA-cam. I've made a few cardigans so far and although they're not perfect, I am getting better.
I learned to crochet when I was 8 years old. My grandmother taught me. I have never crocheted a cardigan before, but I think I will crochet this one. It is beautiful.
Congratulations, Monica! Your comment was chosen to win the 5 skeins of Aruba Buttery Sport. Please send us a message using our contact form at www.expressionfiberarts.com/contact-us/ and let us know where you would like us to ship the yarn. Thanks so much, and have a wonderful day!
I was first shown how to crochet in jr. high in home ec class. I watched my great grandmother crochet while I was growing up, then when I was expecting my first child, I wanted to keep the family tradition of the grandmothers making baby garments for the grandchildren and I followed instructions to knit my first baby blanket in a McCalls craft book. then I started crocheting dishcloths and a hat for a dear friend. I made a granny square blanket for my 2nd child and a knitted blanket for my 3rd. It wasn't until I was to be a grandmother when my son and his wife became pregnant and I found your channel and I haven't stopped crocheting or knitting. I am on a mission to complete the Rainier before I'm a great grandma! I love to crochet and until I'm tired of it then knit til I'm tired of crochet. Then I make cards. After the Rainier is finished, I'll work on Crossaster for my niece, it's both of our birthdays today. I hoping to get the yarn for the Vineyard next month. I make a swatch of the Vineyard and I love it soooo much! You inspire me and you know how to make me happy. I love your videos and watching when making crocheting or knitting. Thank you for being so wonderful. Love and hugs.
I’m almost 76 years old, and I really don’t remember when I started to crochet, probably around age 11 or 12. There have been times when I went without the hook for a year or two, but I always managed to come back to it. In my later years I would find myself looking around for my hook to soothe myself when stressed or really tired. It rejuvenates me! Since I retired from teaching several years ago, I took up watercolor painting and have done well with that, but I still find that I need my crochet hook to take the edges off and round me out.
Hi Chandi, thank you for your inspiring words and your beautiful smile... 😍 I learned to knit and later to crochet with my mom. She was doing it so fast I thought at that time that I wanted to do as well as her ! Now when she sees all the different projects that I have made, she says "The student has surpassed the master". It makes me feel so proud of myself in some way. I have to admit, my preference goes now to crocheting, it goes faster...(maybe an old memory of my past ?) 😉
My Maw-Maw taught me but crochet didn't really become a passion for me until 7th grade, so around the age you were. It was 1972 so ofc in home economics we were assigned a project, we made halter tops and could either knit or crochet them, just a simple triangle with flattened top and bottom that you ran a chained cord through, the edging was very similar to what you use on this cardigan and you ran the contrasting cord in and out. After that I always had yarn in my hand. Now I make endless amigurumi for my grandkids and ofc blankets for everyone and clothing for myself. I've been on a long life changing weight loss/fitness path for the last several years and crochet has been such a blessing, kept my hands busy and out of the cookies!
I used to watch my mother crocheting & was fascinated. My mother guided me from the beginning to the end.
A inspiring story !
You're so welcome! Enjoy!
My grandmother taught me to crochet and I so enjoy the craft! I rarely miss a bit of crochet each day ❤
My grandmother introduced me to crochet but it wasn't until I was a young, broke, single mom with cancer that i truly realized the benefit of crochet.
That is awesome!
I never wanted to crochet until my friends encouraged me to try it out. Thank you friends!
My mother inspired me to crochet because I really liked the garments she made with just yarn and hooks!
I learned to crochet in Girl Scouts over 40 years ago. I find it to be so calming and love that there is still so much to learn.
When i was 9 I learned how to crochet watching my favorite aunt I made shawls and doilies and kept going it relaxing ,have a blessed day 😊
My crochet story started way way way back when I was about 10 years old - my Mom taught me how to do a Granny Square and I made a small blanket for my dolly.
Cardigans are amongst the masterpieces in the crochet world, I would love to try it out soon!
I have never made a crochet cardi, but I've knitted them. I taught myself to crochet in high school, I always loved making things. Then, after college, I learned to knit. Been making things ever since, it's so cathartic and fun. Thank you for all the amazing work you do, you've inspired me countless times. 🧡
Thanks for sharing!!
Amazing! Thanks for sharing your story!
That is wonderful! I’m so happy you’ve reconnected with crocheting.
She passed away 3 months ago; it's comforting because it reminds me of her 😌
My mom, and sister taught me how to crochet! I thank God for them everyday
I taught myself to crochet just after my oldest daughter was born, she will be 50 tomorrow and by using your youtube channel, she taught herself to knit...I just want to Thank You for being such an inspiration to so many and for helping to revive a lost art...I've made numerous articles of clothing and have used several of your patterns and will be using this one as well
That is awesome!
Got started with crochet when I was 12. Got away from it for about 30 years and just knit, but I am back and loving it.
I was inspired by my friends so much that I started learning knitting and crocheting.
That is awesome!
You are so welcome!
I am obsessed
with making garments and bags.
My mother taught me to crochet. Mom crocheted all the time. She loved making throw blankets.
That is awesome!
I learned to knit and later to crochet with my mom.
