Im looking forward to finally playing CoA after many years(yes I played it before ascension owned it). I agree with you on everything, ascension videos always convince me to play, yet the randomness of wildcard makes me quit in a week, and then not play for months, I was hoping 1000+ ability free pick would happen, when we get 1000 ability free pick, no more enchants, it will be fun to actually build. I love how much progress the ascension team made over the years
the original classes realm and CoA will definitely make me come back, but especially CoA, I played the beta for a while and loved it. I gotta agree on wildcard sadly, im in the same boat, I love what ascension does with WoW but all the rng systems make me burnout insanely fast, and I didnt play there for like a year at this point because of it.
I’ve been playing retail for a while, I’ve actually been engaged with leveling my alts on the war within, with the new hero talents which have some cool visuals and playstyles. A few styles have been similar to ascension, like mountain thane and dark ranger, but the builds are not as visually customizable as ascension though
COA is amazing, but i REALLY hope they slow down leveling. like remove manastorm and dungenfinder pre60 to keep people in in the world and not spamming instances.
Yeah, no. If you're leveling too fast then that's a user specific issue. There are leveling challenges that disable your ability to use those systems along with other ways to slow things down, but forcing everyone to suffer through content that they don't enjoy to please a minority isn't going to happen.
They can use a dungeon finder like in turtle wow. It matches u with others and shows the level of the dungeons but u gotta make ur way to the instance, I quite like it.
theres ways to slow itdown but if people wana level from bg's they should be able too

i really just wish that someone from the team somehow designed a way to see a direct impact of specific talents as far as the classless goes... imo thats the biggest hold back for it... for example something like path of building from path of exile implemented into it where you can choose a ability that you want the talent to show you dmg increases and effects for
also ngl i wish blizzard hired entire ascension team and funded them so they can get rid off the pay to win mechanics(even tho there is not a lot) and actually just grow at a prof. level
- really sad that blizzard is just hardstuck in their ways... imagine if we had something like a server browser from counter strike but for wow where you can actually create custom content with actual tools used for it

I feel where you're coming from with Wildcard not being fun, and while I understand where they're coming from by making talents also part of the rolls, it just feels like you don't have control over your build at all unless you grind your ass off for scrolls and skill cards and such. That's the main flaw of wildcard imo - the pure RNG of it. Roguelikes balance that RNG with ways to let you pivot into an emerging build, but on Ascension it just kinda feels completely off the wall. They claim that you'll roll "synergies" for your build but unless you're playing a super obvious build it never feels like it's doing that to me.
If they kept the spell rolling and let you spend talent essences on talents (including the new ones that were shattered off of old Mystic Enchants) then I think wildcard would feel a lot better in terms of having the freedom to make your build. As it stands, it's just a slot machine, and not a particularly gratifying one unless you have omega giga chad luck or all the time in the world to grind out skill cards. Here's hoping the promised "earn more scrolls" thing is actually as insane as they keep hyping it up to be. Rapid rerolling is already a good step imo, they're just missing a little bit more to make this season truly something to remember.
There is so much I'm excited and ready for from this team, the classic plus (Bronzebeard) and the runescape stuff, god I need this in my life. It's been such a long time since I've wanted to play an mmo, and both of these have made some tingles in my pants happen. Thank you guys for working so hard on these projects, and may we all be ascended by the quality.

I understand why they did the random talent system, because most of the power of a build was through the talents, not the raw skills. It's a very difficult, if not impossible problem to solve, that the RE system has effectively turned area 52 into a pseudo class system again. Elune has more flexibility in what builds you can create since it now longer locks certain mechanics together through LREs with 3+ different effects. But to prevent min-max builds from running totally rampant, they had to remove some of the control from the players in the design. This doesn't stop the people willing to grind out that RNG until they hit those same builds though.
I think what wildcard really demonstrated was that there's a lot of archetypes which just can't compete without the pigeonholing that the LRE system creates. Yet this same pigeonholing prevents people from making any actual use, let alone builds, around the new skills that they add. What meaning does Ray of Frost add to the game, if every most frost builds are mechanically centered on frost bolt, ice lance, and deep freeze?
I logged on to see what the new passives were and noticed that they added a new paladin attack called holy strike (70% weapon damage) as holy + some flat... only problem is that since all of the pally builds are centered around crusader strike and divine storm. The best you can do with the skill is make something out of overlooked scraps of talents that are broadly applicable, but those same talents that might give it some viability are what the best builds stack in order to make themselves the meta.
path of exile handles power better. They had options and chose the worst option. Even though for years we told them we dont like wildcard.
100% the same thought on classess. Me and a friend would play the past 2-3 seasons and loved every bit. Would take a little break and then would end up coming back. We've probably played a total of 5 hours combined this season. It's just too random. I didn't mind the wildcard mode in the older versions. Trying to get those spells were fun. But trying to get those spells AND talents which includes those older mystic enchants it's just awful.

I liked the energy from Wildcard, but it felt like Area 52 with more effort and less control. I like the surprise element into seeing how you can feasibly quest with an unpredictable build, but I agree that many would not enjoy that. I hope we may have something similar to it in the future, but it needs an element to make it a preferred playstyle over its counterpart(s).
Classless brought in so many people, and moving off from that someday will affect many more. The biggest concern players will have is if they keep their Vanity items they earned or bought with DP (I am not one of them but I've seen folks mentioning it). "So long and thanks for all the fish" would not be warmly received and players have mentioned it would be a d!ck move to take the money and run with no turnover.
Yo, so you said Sargeras Embrace is the only one who's done Player Housing but if you haven't seen Epsilon, its *the* custom phase building server. Its mostly for flavor, tabletop stuff and roleplay but you should check it out

Only change i would have liked was more high risk lvling to get people into it, maybe some felforged and for the 9 og classes to have vanilla talent trees
I know that it would be a ridiculous amount of extra work, but Ascension could easily make a new game without any possibility of Blizzard removing it (at the same time if they where even thinking about it they would have) Either way I would love watching how Ascension develops and I cannot wait till WoRS comes out, having access to the Alpha when it releases.
McD, Do you have any idea when the team will be changing the client version from 3.3.5a to the Legion client with all of its updates and features? All of this super cool modern stuff with pixelated damage numbers feels so strange.

8 years for Wrath to be release from a payed beta, 6 years (and counting because I am skeptical of it releasing on time) for CoA to be released from a payed beta. So look forward to Bronzebeard classic + in 4 years because they need to milk dry the new cow... 😅😂🤣 oh yeah plus a classic main 9 class server, sargeras embrace and runecaraft. So many projects in the works, but lets see what get public release that arent almost a decade or half of one.

I was just watching the update video and got pretty excited. Hope if you dont mind me asking if there is anything in CoA that lets you go into battle with the trusty spear and shield combo?
Nothing that's a spear and shield I'm afraid. We do have a sword and shield DPS though with the gladiator guardian
How have people played CoA before it's release??
@BrianShaw-f3u you can buy a book/scroll from the store, it gets posted to you in ascension wow, you use your class to open the book and this then allows you to gain access to CoA. It's amazing too.
Yeah, for around $20 USD you can obtain access to the test realm. There's so many aspects that are so good that I've fallen behind on playing other games to an insane degree. :3

I play on area52 and i want to know is when are they are going to make more then 5 builds raid doable. with all the updates they still haven't balanced any builds like maybe you should buffing builds instead of nurfing most of them. the one that needs a nurf is the LOTA build 17/26k sustained or more dps with 40/65k crit is just stupid when on my build I can only do 5.5k sustained dps and 26k crit. My guild wont take me into a raid at because of that BS. so if you truly are on the team there then bring this up theirs a lot of players that feel this way. and please give me some feed back about this issue.
That's sort of my issue with it. It's old at this point, lots of gold on it, and there's SO MUCH BUILD VARIETY - but somehow you rarely feel viable. Thats why I loved the seasonal random realms, it's just too much randomness for me personally atm

Ascension Dev Team is Equal to Grinding Gear Games. So its good that they are the ones owning the Custom WoW Scene. They meet expectations constantly.

Unlikely. Private servers are and have been perfectly legal for a few years now ever since Blizzard made a private server specific ToS list of requirements. At most they may try to silence some aspects of a few realms if there's a conflict in release dates. But with Blizzard being bought out by Microsoft I find it even less likely for them to go after the custom/modding community as there are many such communities for Microsoft games.
