Doing a new cross for the church. Appreciate the insight, and also how great a dad you are by showing them and engaging them in the work themselves! I know many of my peers of mid-30's lament that fact that our Dad's knew pretty much any home problem, but most of us never picked up stuff from them.

I just wanted to say thank you sir, my best friend died all the way back in 2013 and me and my parent were the only family he had. We didnt even have the funds for a funeral we had to do car washes and stuff to raise money for it. So we really didnt have the money for a tomb stone. I was 12 years old so unfortunately i had no way to make the money myself either and as time went on i just got caught up with life, well I went out to his grave recently its out in the country so not many people go or even know where it is and it looks terrible it was all over grown and the ground was sunk in. Im slowly gixing everything but i still do not have the funds for a tombstone i just had my first kid recently. So ive been thinking of ways i can get my brother what he deserves and mark his final resting spot. I dont have the tools to make this but youve given me great ideas and taught me how to use the tools i dont have just incase i run into someone that does have them. It has been 11 years since he was put to rest and im very happy to think that i can finally do something to mark his spot. So i tip my hat to you sir. thank you.

My cat died in May this year, instead of giving her a proper burial, we just shoveled her into a trash container like she was nothing (Sadly this was the only choice, she didnt die peacefully and got killed by a car), now a few months later im crying over how I never gave her a proper burial and a proper goodbye, gonna be making this once im able to

I'm sorry for your loss but don't beat yourself up. You can build a memorial for her and pay respects that way. So sorry for your poor kitty. Take care.

Good job. I was looking to make one myself. Just was wondering the distance from the top of the cross to horizontal cross beam.

Very good job. Suggestions if you make more crosses. I've been making them for a few years now. Same design. I use Windows publisher to spell out the name and dates. This gives you different fonts to use. Print it out and trace it with carbon paper. Carve the letters. I then paint the letters black and it's ok to smear the paint cause after the paint dries, you sand the wood and it will leave the black paint in the carving. I then stain the wood and let it dry. I apply an outdoor sealant to weather proof it. I've made them out of 2x4, 2x6, and 4x4. By far 4x4 is the nicest of all. On 2x4 I'll route the edge with a Roman ogee bit to give it more appeal. But you did a good job.
