      Oooh, yeah. If I had a whole bunch of free time and nothing else to do, I would love to make a steampunk mark 1 Ironman suit! It's kinda got a bit of that vibe already.

    What I love about your creations are that you leave a lot to interpretation. Like you give us the main bits and show us how you made yours but someone could easily picked up from where you left off on part one and make their jetpack completely different. You give us the tools and instructions but ultimately leave it up to us on how we want it. But anyways you're awesome I've been watching your videos since your first tophat video and I love what you do. Keep up the awesome work!!

      Thanks, I will take that into account when I make more videos, Though it is always so tricky trying to fit a tutorial video in to under 7 minutes- which is always my goal so people don't get too bored.

    I love your designs. I just bought the jet pack pattern and I'm hoping to make a steampunk witches broom using some version of the nozzle for the top cover on the broom bristles. Your designs have given me inspiration! I just thought I'd throw this out there in case you need a future project... It would be great to have a pattern for a steampunk witches broom.

    That looks so cool! I did a jetpack once and it was far from being that good looking. For rivets, I used brads, it works well since they're already in metal, but only for gold of course (I kept some entire and I broke some to keep only the heads of the brads).

    I've taught art for many years, and when we create paper mache masks, I sometimes buy the kids a bag of dried green split peas. We glue these down for our rivet heads and then they paint them later. Works great and VERY cheap!

    I am absolutely hooked! Trying to make screw heads like you is an unspeakable challenge (you make it so easy!) well I gave up and instead cutting a piece of foam out I just compress it with my metal ruler. It actually gives the same effect and saves me a lot of stress.

    • @LostWax

      Perfect!! Whatever works for you! Pretty much the key is to have a super sharp knife:)

    • @LostWax
      @LostWax  4 роки тому

      @@lindafromczech Hmm, interesting. Was it with a brand new blade, or had you already done a bit of cutting with it? Good job figuring out something that worked for you, that's what it's all about!

    • @LostWax
      @LostWax  4 роки тому +1

      @@lindafromczech Yeah, that would work, I don't use that technique in my build videos, as I know if I do, no matter how much I stress safety, there will be people in small rooms burning foam and breathing in the fumes, which could be really bad for their health.

    There is a tool made especially for folding materials (my spoon handles are thick, so the wouldn't work) called a folding bone. You can usually find these in the scrapbooking section of most craft stores.

    • @LostWax
      @LostWax  6 років тому

      Nice tip, I'll check it out.

  • @jimbobaroobud
    @jimbobaroobud 6 років тому

    Instead of pressing your tube really hard into the foam to leave an indentation where you are going to cut, you can either paint the end of the tube, touch it to an ink pad, or color it with a non-permanent marker. Before it dries, simply touch it to the foam. Now you know exactly the size the hole needs to be without the stress and strain. Cut out all the color on the foam and you have your hole. The coloring on the very end of the tube won't be seen since it will be inside the hole.

    Do the scalpels hold their sharpness longer than xacto blades?

    • @LostWax
      @LostWax  7 років тому +2

      I don't think they would really. I think they generally start off sharper though, depending on quality. I have a sharpening stone where I work , and sharpen my knife probably every hour or so. If your knife is dull, it is super frustrating trying to cut the foam.
