When the original 6 part series came out in 1990 I was a young mum, who enjoyed cooking and baking traditional British food. I bought the book, and have used it ever since. The pages are covered in blots and stains from food being made from Christmases past, rips where they had got stuck together, and brings back lots of memories every time I open it. This is the 1st time I have seen this version, and it's just as inspiring, for me as an oldie now, as I hope it was for the younger generation. Delia is always by my side at this time of year 🎄😄🎄
Yes my first Christmas cook book too as I was a young mum with 4 children and extended family to feed over Christmas. Following Delia everything went perfectly … added to wonderful Christmas memories.
Thats so lovely. I discovered Delia when I was a young new mum and had realised quickly, if I didn't learn to cook, I wouldn't eat. My son is now 12 and I start early each year but still love reading Delia's recipes.
Beef in pastry? So it's basically beef Wellington. It's crazy and sad though that thanks to inflation, it's way too expensive to get a quarter of the ingredients, especially all that alcohol!
Time to jump-start xmas season by watching Delia's cooking this feast. :) It always gets me in the festive mood. Have a wonderful holiday season to all. :)
I must say I remember when she taught me to do the basics way back in the 80’s I was married in 1985 , taught me so much . Mum had me prepared but Delia expanded my cookery horizon . Passed my Food and nutrition o’Level so had basic knowledge . Now they fling everything in a microwave lol 😅better than Bill Gates wanting us to eat crickets ! Nutter !
This is my absolute favourite, I adore this series, I got the book, and it has been my ‘bible’ for years and I’ve passed it down to the next generation
Love Delia.... never had a failed recipe, but I totally disagree on one point, which seems tiny but actually matters a lot imho. That is, never, ever, ever use foil to cover any steamed pudding, be it Christmas, suet, sponge or whatever. . Instead, cover the pud with buttered greaseproof paper first, pleating to allow any expansion, then cover with pleated muslin cloth, tie with string, then steam. When steamed and cold, change for clean coverings and store. Believe me, it really does taste better, and for some reason, suet puds and sponges are fluffier and just.... nicer! Honest!😊
I think this is probably my favourite of all her cookery programmes. Much more informal than some of her others and who can't love her "We're home cooks" comment that was a reply to some snooty chefs (some not unknown to television themselves!) who'd criticised her and some of her cheats.
No I don’t do currants and peel so gritty , instead I add a few chopped dates and orange zest ! . guess everyone has their own ingredients Mixed spice and nutmeg 2 eggs a grated apple some brandy , mix and leave over night .Next day add flour and steam for 6-8 hours .Always moist and Christmassy ❤,Delias recipes are so good ,a tweak is allowed 🎉she’s the queen of versatility 😊
If I could make Christmas pudding without the suet, raisins, sultanas, currents and peel/candied fruit, I would. A nice spicy, apple and nut pudding with alcohol and orange rind sounds infinitely better to me.
That's not Christmas pudding at that point, you remove the dried fruits and the suet, and instead add nuts and fresh fruits, and alcohol - that's a cake, not a pudding anymore!!!...
JohnKing : I noticed that every ingredient has been prepared....the "mis en place " would take "ages"...plus the calories, (lots, quite often), and the booze ( expensive) . Plus, the "time-lapse" makes it look easy... Imho, it all adds up to quite a palava ...🤔😊. Will do the red cabbage recipe...looks good 😊👍, and not pricey ingredients... no quantities given here : clever ! 😊🦉: Have to buy the book ! (L.O.L.😊). Happy New Year to all. 🇬🇧🌟😊🌹 🇬🇧💙🎉🎼🌈🌹🇬🇧
This isn't a traditional Christmas Cake, it's a Creole one. Also - I wouldn't DARE criticise Delia, or tell her she's doing anything 'wrong'. To say she's been a guru for 50-odd years is an understatement 🙂
@@fluffyfour-i haven’t said she’s wrong, nothing is wrong if you like it,i just wouldn’t eat it unless it’s royal icing. I think Delia is fab and I love watching her she’s very calming but if I gave my husband that icing, the cake would be in the bin. He’s stuck in his ways. Certain things go with certain things imo.
This isn't her actual house. Hilarious. Delia has been a informative cook for many many many many years. This isn't her house though. She might own it though. Like the football club she played with for decades.
It's hardly work. You put it on and every few hours you check to make sure it hasn't boiled dry. If the water is low, add more, making sure its boiling.
Now thanks to inflation, one can barely afford to eat healthy, let alone cook a festive holiday meal with all those ingredients. Just 2 of her meals require you to blow through your entire Xmas bonus! And that doesn't include all that booze! It's insane. I'm already worried about tax season 😢 Who the f$#* buys bitters, barley wine or cherry brandy??
Delia is a great cook, but she lives in a world of her own. A sort of upper middle class, wealthy, posh world. This show has "easy" or "simple" receipes according to her, but for most of us, they are difficult and very expensive to make. She is sort of preaching to the wealthy, upper middle class and beyond, and lets the rest of us settle for Jamie Oliver etc.
@@manmaje3596 You are one person. Just look at her ingredients and the time to make the food. She is preaching to a certain audience demo that is most certainly not working class mothers at home and have little money to spend on food.
Just exactly how many budget Christmas cookery shows do you know of? Cos I can tell you there aren't any. You adapt things. If you don't have all the ingredients, you substitute.

Not at all, I and my family have eaten this way at Christmas all our lives (I’m 50 and they’re in their 70’s). We are all slim, fit, healthy active people on zero medication. It’s a special time,of year to gather with friends and family and eat delicious home cooked food. I’ve just spent the evening making delias bread sauce, red cabbage and cranberry and orange sauce that I will freeze and use on Christmas Day. I’ll be making Christmas cakes tomorrow, mum makes the Christmas puddings. If I had to choose my last supper this meal would be it, heaven on a plate.

Happy CHRISTMAS 🎄

Delia always communicates so well. Clear, articulate, no fuss or faff, and easy to listen to.
I learnt to cook British food with Delia Smith. Her classic book ‘Complete cookery Course’ is my Bible!
Me too 👍😊
How can one not love this lady...🥰

My aunty made all the Christmas cakes for the family. She started in August/September. Every month she added a bit of booze to keep it moist !!
