Two Delta Force snipers, Sergeant First Class Randy Shughart (Johnny Strong) and Master Sergeant Gary Gordon (Nikolaj Coster-Waldau from Game of Thrones), were inserted by helicopter to Super Six-Four's crash site, where they found Durant (Ron Eldard) still alive. The site is eventually overrun, Gordon and Shughart are killed, and Durant is captured by Aidid's militia.

What’s the Black Hawk Down movie about?
The head of an army of Somalis proclaimed himself the leader of Somalia in 1992 and brought terror to the country. George H. W. Bush set up a humanitarian mission to bring food to those in need. In 1993, the situation quickly escalated: 24 peacekeepers on duty were murdered for no reason on the orders of Mohamed. Mohamed was declared a war criminal and a ransom was placed on his head. The peaceful humanitarian mission led until then by the Americans has now become military. Mogadishu, October 3, 1993. The Rangers, transported by Black Hawk helicopters, were about to surround a hotel in the lower town. The Delta will assault and arrest two of Mohamed's subordinates. Called Irene, the mission lasted an hour at most. But the armed forces had underestimated the impact of their presence on the population. For many Somalis do not appreciate anyone interfering in their problems. So they took up arms and opened fire. Surprised by this fierce and numerous opposition, the soldiers found themselves greatly outnumbered and surrounded and a Black Hawk helicopter was shot down. The American superiority is in fire and ashes and the soldiers are caught in the enemy's fire.

Gordon and Shughart were both married so imagine how grateful Durant's family is for what they sacrificed to make sure he made it home in one piece.

True story. When the mob descended on Durant, it wasn't a rifle they hit him with. It was a severed arm. He writes about it in 'In the company of heroes' He describes glaring back at the guy with such hate and disgust that he dropped the arm, and retreated
Remember watching this movie as a teenager. This one scene in particular stuck with me. Them ripping an American out of his clothes and throwing his dead body around was enough motivation for me to want to join the military. Still makes me extremely angry/emotional 20 years later

It doesn't matter how desperate a country is when an evil dictator rules them. They DO NOT have the right to loot a crashed helicopter and kill whoever gets in the way.

Shugart and Gordon were awarded the CMH because they were willing to do what nobody else would, even if it was just to save one man.

It’s amazing to me that I never knew Durant survived this and was taken prisoner. I saw this movie a very long time ago and recently have been watching the clips on UA-cam and only today did I look him up and discover what happened after this scene. Yes the title is prisoner of war and that is why I actually looked it up.
