It’s a testament to Gordon and Shugart that their actual last stand at the downed chopper was much longer than depicted in the movie, and that Mike Durant said they were very calm the entire time. Not even Hollywood could make a more badass scene than the real life final stand of those two men
While their stand was no doubt one of the most badass and heroic actions i have ever read about there is a very good Washington times article that heavily suggests they fought for about 20 minutes to a half hour before being overrunned. Main source being that the rescue column that was trying to reach them was called off way before the 2 hours the book says they fought for which makes no sense. If they knew a fight was still on they wouldn’t call them off
@@Laxa30 They had no way of reaching them with the mob of Somalis and the debris blocking the main routes. They had already lost enough helicopters that it was no longer a viable means of exfil. This is the reality of war.
Shugart's last line always gets me. "Gordon's gone, man. I will be outside. Good Luck." He knew his death was not far away, but still bid Durant's fortune. A powerful scene.
4 years late I know. But his last few statements showed how true of a soldier and a man he was. Knew he was likely going to die but was going to give it his best to defend his brother, no matter how futile it looked. Man not only a real solider, but a real man. Respect to his his memory.
Two legendary badasses. R.I.P. “Where’s the rescue squad?” “We’re it…” Durant lived. I doubt there is a more grateful human being on the planet for these two heroes than him.
These Men are still and will forever be Heroes in Fort Benning, you will never go through any Military training without the knowlegde of the selfless sacrific these men laid that day.
@@Screwby_Jones6200 I remember these two guys photos in some handbook that everyone got right when we got to basic at Benning. Cant remember the handbook or what it was about, but I remember the names and photos.
@@Screwby_Jones6200 Bro, I went through USMC boot in 2004, Hollywood Marine, and along with Chesty, Daly, Smedley Butler, Bailone, John Glenn and Hathcock, one of the guys speaking to us talked about them and how he'd have been proud to have called them brothers. To volunteer to go in against hundreds of enemies, basically so that one American won't die alone? Is there anything in the world more honorable? Their first two requests to be inserted were denied, but they were finally granted permission after their third and final request came following the news of the ambush on the QRF troops attempting to leave the airfield. I had no idea there were Navy Special Warfare operators there at the time though. To this day I don't understand why they didn't ask for the Marines of the 13th MEU and 1/9 to help as QRF.
crazy how they waited for the Marines to withdraw before attacking in general, MFA's nephew was a marine in country serving as a interpreter from what I understand and later followed in his fathers footsteps to become a warlord in Somalia himself.@@jamiestewart48
+Lewis Currie not taking anything away from these Heroes but you should look up Ed Eaton i wish this guy would get more credit similar situation in vietnam
Two bravest servicemen had their body and their fellow comrades being dragged on the road of Somali by those babaric skinnies. And they keep claiming that they're should not be considered to be animal. (I apologise if I may accidentally insult people who shares same skin colors with those babaric militians. It's depend on the environment where you were brought up that effect your behaviors and actions. I still believe that African descendant in Europe and American may act more like a well-educated and decent citizen than those who was brought up in places where wars and conflicts are happening everyday. Not all Africans act like babarians and not all people from other races are nice, however, those who treated bodies of true warrior like those skinnies should not be considered as human being.)
+Max White "Logically" speaking it's dumb but war is not logical. If a buddy is down and being swarmed by people who intend to end his life then instinctively you want to stand between him and the swarm, even if it kills you. Weird, I know, but it's just the way some people operate.
I have never been star struck in my life. I was working at a ski resort in Colorado when a man came in upset that his military pass wasnt verified. That man was mike durant. Usually you need all the paperwork to verify yourself from the military to get the $100 epic pass, but when he walked in, and I pulled up his name and profile, i knew exactly who he was. I said sir "were you mike durant a nightstalker pilot?" And he said quite impressed with a smile "how the hell do you know that?". I said "sir, i know exactly who you are. I just want to shake your hand. It is an honor to meet you. I dont need to see any paperwork. Thank you for your service" I shook his hand and he left. One of the proudest moments of my life.
This scene perfectly illustrates the true quality of special forces soldiers. I'm not talking about combat skills. I'm talking about how quickly Shugart accepts Gordon's death (as hard as it is to swallow) and gets on with the mission. Special forces are not much physically stronger than regular soldiers. What sets them apart is their mentalities. Soldiers often draw the majority of their own strength from their comrades. Low group morale can easily crush an individuals determination. Upon being the last one alive in a combat situation, soldiers can quickly become disheartened and resign themselves to their fate or go out in gun blazing suicidal glory. It takes a insane level of mental fortitude to be the last one alive and still fight effectively and strategically without losing control, to draw strength from yourself and not the guy next to you. Shugart perfectly illustrates this. He accepts Gordon's death in a matter of seconds. He doesn't give the enemy the satisfaction of a quick all out raging death, he keeps his cool and continues to fight effectively, taking down as many hostiles as possible.
Shugart and Gordan were master's at killing and being completely calm, knowing what they were doing and going up against. Before the two joined Delta force they were U.S. Green berets. Elite of the elite and definitely two of the most elite, bravest and heroic men ever in U.S forces and without a doubt always will be legends. Respect and RIP (salutes)
6 medals of honor have been awarded in the War on Terror alone, what the fuck are you on about "th elast two to receive the medal of honor, durr..." Also, they weren't Green Berets before they joined special forces you fucking moron, green berets ARE special forces in the US Army.
***** are you fucking dumb....? There is no green beret BEFORE special forces. In the United States Army, you are a green beret when you actually earn your SF tab. Do you get it yet?
Calm down.....these two guys deserve more than you yelling at someone, because your can't read, Special Forces in the Army has several branches, Delta Force being part of that group. You can actually be in the Green Berets before you are in Delta.
***** Are you upset because you are wrong? Just once more I will lay it out for you: Join Army. Go through necessary steps and earn necessary ranks for SF indoc. Survive selection. Become a green beret. Meaning, you have earned your SF tab. From there, several avenues of advancement in different operational detachments, including Delta. You are a fucking moron. Worse than that, a willfully dense and ignorant moron. One does not wear a green beret "before becoming special forces." I hope you will continue to respond because watching you embarrass yourself is too much fun :D
that has nothing to do with your fake "bravery" MATE, that's called honesty and trust worthy and not leaving your friends behind like a hypocrite. do you think these guys died so people like you call them brave? they did that because they don't care about things like you.
The average combat load was/is 210 rounds. Gordon and Schugart knew they were going into a suicide mission. They basically demanded to be put down into a no-win situation. Two heroes if there ever was any. RIP
Even though the Mini-gun was out it uses the same ammo as the M1A one of them was carrying, but I guess they didn't have time to open up the can to hand load empty magazines. Still they didn't hesitate, they went in despite knowing the risks.
@@Vollification Technically, they could have pulled the rounds straight from the ammo can itself. However, this would still be impractical as de-linking ammo from a belt is a slow, pain in the ass process and there is no way they would be able to invest the time to do it while bullets were flying past their heads.
Im mexican we have a saying from emiliano zapata who free us ik the revolution : ill better die standing than living on my knees. Gordy and randy lived their best.
@@LapBarsOnlyThey would have to expose themselves to alot of incoming fire to reach the enemy position to recover weapons, this would also mean they would no longer be firing to hold back the incoming enemy too. Exposing your position, with less return fire, and already overwhelmed is a poor mistake. Unfortunately, they really didn't have a chance.
@@JohnDoe-bi5cc I just read his Wikipedia page about this. No, he did not. He was leading in the polls, before he declined a 3 way debate. The winning candidate, career politician/lawyer Katie Britt, waged out of context political warfare/smears against him repeatedly via advertising. He was pro Trump, notably being pro legal immigration while staunchly anti illegal immigration. He also took issue with Britt’s extremely pro life abortion stance, which obviously is somewhat contrarian in a state like Alabama. Evidently his denial of the debate ended up sinking his campaign, and he declined to endorse either prevailing candidate. Afterwards he said he is now done with pursuing politics. Admittedly I am still relatively uninformed about this ordeal, but the idea of some sleazy lawyer politician smearing Mike Durant to win the Senate doesn’t sit right with me.
Usually i couldnt give less fucks about war movies. But the truth is, these two delta dudes? they literally sacrificed their lives to save a man. Honestly, there's no better way to die, or to live for that matter. Respect.
Does everyone realize that half of Saudi Arabia thinks literally this exact same thing about the 9/11 hijackers? One side's hero is the other side's villain--remember that, please. Sometimes the only difference between good and evil is perspective.
Bro this shit still makes me sad and cry bro... The fact that they knew what they were going in and getting themselves into knowing theirs no way out.. to save one man... freaking heros. And literally .. after knowing about these two and their heroic deaths on the reason why I'm joing the service. To know that I could put down my life to have a brother or sister keep going... 💯
+MrAmericasbadboy That's because troops don't inherently deserve our support. If it's unjustifiable then they're just pawns, I respect them, but that doesn't mean I'll support them in a war that's wrong. But in Mogadishu it's clear that actions of US troops were justifiable, honourable even and in the case of Shugart and Gordon, heroic.
+Jonny B The soldiers aren't the ones choosing the wars, that's up to politicians and government leaders. The ones who sacrifice fighting those wars aren't the ones to blame for making that call. If anything, I feel that makes them even more commendable for doing their job whether the cause is socially popular or not. Support them whether you agree with the fight or not, we wouldn't be able to sit here typing if there weren't those willing to sacrifice for us.
+Steve S It's one of the finest things about the armed forces in our free world. They put up with a tonne of crap from the top, and they get sent places where people will try and kill & maim them in the harshest ways available. Yet still they go. @@ducaalexajicali9468 Yeah ya'll can't shoot for shit and if there was a larger force ya'll would be fucking killed but the will Shugart and Gordon had were huge and to be that effective with only two guys
7 years late I know but those two stepped infront of an army to defend brothers they never even met. They were men amongst an army of rats. Glad to know the man they gave their lives to survived. Their mission was accomplished.
Amen to that first delta force operators to receive the congressional medal of honor the cost of their lives, but at the same time they did what they had to do. They knew what they were getting into despite being told the chances of going in would be along with help being unavailable. They still volunteer to go in anyway. Now those are true warriors. They went out like to Warriors. A lot of people literally go on talking about the mini gun inside the Blackhawk. Why didn’t they use it well clearly the thing was out of action. Who knows what the outcome would’ve been if the thing was operational but either way things happen. These guys with or without a mini gun went down like warriors with more Somali militiamen dead all around them.
Those two men were brave beyond normal understanding. They knew full damn well they where overwhelmingly outnumbered, and the actually ignored orders to stand down...because of how dangerous it was. Randy Shugart is buried in my hometown, and I once saw his citations and Medal of Honor at a display in the Historical Society's museum, that's actually when I first learned about the man. I have a rather negative opinion of the US government, but I have the utmost respect for people who display the greatest of human convictions: self-sacrifice.
+mean45acp The Memorial is at West Perry High School in Elliotsburg, PA. He was from Blain,PA about 15 miles from the High School. My family went to the laying and to the dedication. Thought my son should see it. He was 7 or so at the time. Local restaurant Poppa-Z at intersection of PA 850 and PA 74 has a picture of him on the board inside.
Medal of Honor says: "Conspicuous gallantry and intrepidity at the risk of life above and beyond the call of duty" What Gordon and Shugart did was several levels over this... :( This was something that will echo in eternity.
Funny you should say that. In the book which the movie is based on, there are accounts of the soldiers seeing bizarre things. Like an old man with grocery bags walking through the firefight, a donkey going unscathed, women walking a cow home. All in the same war zone in Bakara market.
Micheal Durant himself, said that Randy Shughart and Gary Gordon, WALKED up to the aircraft, they were not wearing helmets, and did a whole lot less talking than this film shows them doing. Also Shughart depleted his ammunition entirely . He did not get down to having a last magazine with any amount of ammo. Gordon got down to half of a magazine for his rifle, and the last thing Mike Durant heard him saying was "damn i'm hit." Shughart returned to Durant twice, once to give him Gordon's CAR-15, and once to ask about the weapons on board the downed aircraft. He saw Shughart walk back around the nose of the helicopter and never saw him again. Shughart ran completely out of ammunition, for every weapon he had available, then engaged in hand to hand combat with part of the mob, before they finally killed him. Also all four crew members of Super Six-Four survived the crash initially. Bill Cleveland was also pulled from the downed aircraft and placed in a safe place. Although he did not survive. The other crew members of Super Six-Four died from their injuries after a short time. Bill Cleveland, Randy Shughart, and Gary Gordon were all Drug through the streets by ropes, unclothed.
@Boomstick898, good eye. To shine light on the subject...that man with the white shirt @0.55 walking is Not an anomaly. He's portraying a form state of "psychological " shock, or lost hope ....often scene in constant or hostile violent events. Peace be with you.
Jesus, I often find myself disagreeing with American foreign policy and their actions abroad but these two men were heroes no matter. No political motivation in what they did, purely selfless, god bless 'em. So much life lost for so little.
ImSorryFive Two men who only wanted to save a Fellow brother. it's crazy how the governments of the world will change that concept. Still the most Heroic scene in the whole move. (In my opinion) ^^
ImSorryFive "You wanna know what I think? Doesn't really matter what I think. But once that first bullet goes flying past my head, politics and all that shit go right out the window."
I used to work with the wife of former Delta soldier Brad Halling. He isnt depicted in the movie, but he was in the helo when these two got out. He was going to go with them, but the crew chief had been shot so he stayed and manned the minigun. He provided fire support from above for them on the ground until his helo was also hit by an RPG. He lost his leg due to the blast, but the chopper was able to make it to safety before crash landing. Dunno why it wasn't included in the movie, I guess they only wanted to focus on the birds that crashed in the city. There was way more to this battle than could ever fit in the movie.
the movie also doesn't depict the hundreds of other soldiers from various units supporting the rescue mission. It also paints the locals as all militia in which they were not. A lot of those people were confused thinking it was an invasion and were simply trying to defend their homes. Hollywood once again screws up the story
@@carl5381it's strange how they're given the benefit of doubt and called civilians but here in the United States were called gun crazy for wanting to protect ourselves.
Super 68 also almost crashed land after dropping Airforce Pararescue in Super 61's position. I think 3 of the 4 Balck Hawks who dropped rangers where hit by an RPG. Never had a news about Super 65.
Herbert Shughart, Randall Shughart's father, attended the Medal of Honor presentation ceremony at the White House, where he refused to shake hands with U.S. President Bill Clinton. He then proceeded to openly criticize the president, saying, "You are not fit to be president of the United States. The blame for my son's death rests with the White House and with you. You are not fit to command."
RIP Gordon and Shughart. Thank you. Two of the bravest men who ever lived. Nothing but respect for those guys, they knew they were gonna die, but still did it.
"Where's the rescue squad?" "We're it." If I'd heard that for myself in a situation like that, I can't even begin to describe the amount of guilt I'd feel, knowing two fine men were basically volunteering for suicide to try and keep me from dying.
It was more than that, ALL SF/Delta/Ranger BN Troopers KNOW that those 160th SOAR Pilots & Crew Members would/DID routinely risk & some gave their lives to fly into DEADLY SITES to SAVE those SF’s lives ~ knowing THAT, they couldn’t just leave those pilots to die alone..!!!🇺🇸
a reminder that some heroes don't wear capes. they willingly forfeited their lives in an effort to protect a wounded comrade from wild savages. they deserve nothing less than the highest respect and to be remembered for their sacrifice. you didn't just die an honorable death in the line of duty, but you inspired this man for a lifetime. thank you.
I've seen this movie countless times and EVERY time I get to this scene, my anxiety shoots through the roof because I know what's coming and I can't do anything about it. We see Randy die so slowly, relatively speaking. The actual fight goes on for some time (both in the book and the movie), but it's edited in this clip to show only the snipers. We don't know how either of them really died, as Durant couldn't see it, but the best guess is Gordon died first because the Randy gave Gordon's carbine to Durant and Durant surmised (in his book) that it wouldn't make sense for him to give Durant Gordon's main weapon if he was still alive. Then Shughart died shortly after. Other than that, nothing. FYI - There is a pretty brutal moment of truth from Durant (again, in his book) on what actually hit him in the face. He was buttstroked in the movie .... but it was a much more brutal and barbaric of an object in the book. I don't want to say what it was, both for spoilers and to allow the reader to have the proper "first reading" experience. That may sound dark, but such things are important to me. Like not spoiling a long awaited movie that someone is really looking forward to see.
*For people who don't know about story.* Their mission was rescue pilot. Actually not their mission, but rescue team was very far from range, pilot would gets killed. But Shugart And Gordon was near with him and asked to start rescue mission, leaders denied cause there was almost 2 hundread bandits coming in that zone. But Shugart and Gordon said *no matter we die, we took all risk* and started rescue mission. They fought till what they can. Bandits killed them and took pilot for hostage. But after battle of Mogadishu, US's goverment made contact with bandits, and took pilot from them. So, *Shugart and Gordon's mission accomplished. Pilot survived.* Shugart and Gordon was first person's who took *Medal of Honor*, after Vietnam's war.
The negotiation for him was quite lopsided. They pointed to the aircraft carrier positioned in the Gulf and said if you don't release Durant they'll have the Navy unleash hell on them.
@@jamesfrank3213 No, not remotely close. It was a deal that US would not go after Aidid's associates. Just 2 days after Gothic Serpent US stopped all missions in Somalia, within a month troop withdrawals would start. Aidid had a massive strategic victory.

This part always chokes me up. They went down there to help their brother, 2 against maybe 100, knowing they had little chance of getting out alive, but they decided if they were going to go, they'd go defending a comrade! God bless our Armed Forces!
More then 100 once a helicopter goes down everyone in the city goes to that location. The Somalis knew that downed helicopters was America’s weakness they had to be over 100 Somalis going to that crash site

redomega24 I know there is always more that I can do for my brothers in arms, but anyone can make a difference. A friend of mine started a club in school to raise awareness for the soldiers overseas, of which I am a proud member. We send them money donations, food rations, personal hygiene products, and many other items they are deprived of. Thus, if you too want to support our troops, donate to the USO, wounded warrior project, or any other great organization. The donations are small, but it makes a world of difference.
@PompousBreadRolls It may not be the best weapon ever, but there is a reason it was chosen by many special operations soldiers. It was accurate, reliable, and rugged. Was it the best at anything? Not really, but it did it's job well in the hands of a skilled marskman.

Shugart and Gordon left this world in a pile of brass and bodies. Those men knew exactly what was going on. They were hovering above the battle from the very beginning. They volunteered to go in and set up a temporary perimeter until ground support got there on foot. Shugart and Gordon faught tooth and nail to save Durant. "Let us not mourn that they are gone, instead we should celebrate that such men have lived."
I watched the scene for the first time with a bunch of Army vets and it was one of the most moving experiences of my life I felt something in that room I’ve never felt before as those men knew some of these guys … God bless our troops
This is why I respect soldiers from any nation, they knew they were 2 against hundreds and they were more than likely going to die if they tried to save their comrades. But they went anyway.
The real crash site of Super-64 was much more confined than what you see here. Imagine fighting it out in a small backyard, just big enough for the BlackHawk fuselage...
They went as a volunteers, which is a real heroism. Being outnumbered hundrets to one is clearly a suicide raid, but they went to support/rescue their compatriots. What a bravery, i bow to them.
Just like Axe, Murphy and Dietz did in Afghanistan. Shughart and Gordon fought to the death in Somalia. The Somalis had shot away their bodies but not their spirit and even when they both ran out of ammo, the bastards still struggled to kill them. RIP warriors.
Two of the greatest men to ever walk on earth. No greater warriors in the last 50 years. Truly incredible very special soldiers. Ultimate respect from Scotland 🏴
+EasyLee this isn't politicizing everything. This was the Clinton administration denying the use of Spectre Gunships, and attack helicopters. Resulting in 18 dead Americans, most were at crash sites defending the crew. Outcome would have been different if the mobs were being attacked from the air.
Also don't forget an extremely crucial detail. They had an exact location on all the VIP's they were looking for. Clinton made them wait a month before allowing them to go in. By then the info was useless. They had to search a bit to find who they were looking for, making the operation last longer than needed. But denying proper air support is also FUBAR. As any soldier or marine on the ground knows, air support is a must to minimize friendly casualties.
Shughart and Gordon took on three hundred militia with Durant backing them up. Many of the militia were high on drugs which gave them more confidence, but they were still terrified of the Delta snipers who for a good while seemed unkillable. The two operators took out well over twenty five enemies before being killed. The militia carried away many of their fallen, but twenty five corpses were still in front of the helicopter hours later. It's like something out of Greek mythology. Shughart and Gordon are like the modern Diomedes and Odysseus. Those scumbag 'militia', and their 'warlord' coward leader, who were starving and murdering people, including children, are nothing more than dregs and animals. Gordon and Shughart died for their friends, for their country, and for the innocent people of Somalia. America is 'led' by scum like Clinton and Biden, but it's upheld by men like Gordon, Shughart, and Durant.
I cannot believe what the Somalis did to the bodies. I don't want to get too graphic but if you've read Durrant's books you'll know he wasn't hit with a gun butt
Not only did he get cold-cocked with the severed limb of his co-pilot, it smashed his eye socket and his cheekbone. In his book, he also said that when that crowd of people descended onto him, they were pulling on his gear so hard that he thought they were going to rip him to pieces.
MP-5 to this date is one of the best SMGs if not the best. Too damn easy to control, proven and reliable. Always does the job as long as you're close enough.
I cried so hard at this part, knowing that it actually happened. The fact that it’s abridged and they held out much longer than the movie lets on doesn’t take away from the impact of the scene. Both men knew that they would die protecting him. They knew rescue wasn’t possible or at best, extremely unlikely. They were told “no” twice and still asked to go down and help. Men like this is why the Medal of Honor is still held in the regard it rightfully deserves. Godspeed, Shughart and Gordon.
“It’s good to see you.” The man knows he just volunteered for certain death. But he’s relieved and proud to possibly save a single brother. A level of selflessness 99% of us will never approach.
I used to watch this scene as a young teenager, when the it first came out, and loved it. I thought and hoped I could do the same...... Now, I watch it and it makes me sick to my stomach. They know what they were walking into, and went anyway. That action takes balls. I now feel nothing but sadness for those two. But they did their job, by keeping Durant out of harms way for as long as humanly possible. And for that, they should be praised!
I’m shocked the Black Hawk MSgt. Gordon and SFC Shughart were riding didn’t crash from the weight of their massive cajones. They knew damn well they weren’t going to survive that situation and went in anyway. They wouldn’t be able to live with themselves knowing they left their brothers down there to die alone. Reading his and SFC Shugharts Medal Of Honor citations never fail to make my eyes well up with tears.
I use to watch this at the house I grew up In all the time with my Dad. We had a tv on a mount at our bar in the basement. we’d blast this movie and Private Ryan all the time, Miss those days.
Im from Serbia and this is too sad to watch. It's like the ending of western civilisation.......this scene just brings me to tears.I can't even describe my anger with words while watching this.
One of the saddest parts of the movie.. those guys are the definition of true heroes...not concerned with their own safety at all, risking everything to try and save someone else despite enormous odds when they knew they barely had a chance. Huge respect for Shughart & Gordon, RIP guys you are awesome...
Honestly this is one of the most hardest and gut wrenching scene of all time. It's painful to watch as all hope gets lost and they desperately fight till they finally ran out of ammo.
Imagine what Durant must have felt like hearing one of his two guardian angels has fallen as the other sprints off to continue the fight… I would have been in awe of that man’s mental fortitude and determination to see me to safety.. A true heroic act of cinematic sacrifice that doesn’t do justice to the hopelessness of their reality. Immortalized by cinema as the hero you are is a great legacy to leave.
I read the book black hawk down and I remember one of the delta operators being pissed off about everything including his ammunition. The 5.56mm rounds had the green tips that could punch a hole through metal but they don't stop a person in their tracks. Thinking back he remembered Sargent First Class Randy Shugart carried an old vietnam era M14 with 7.62mm rounds. All the other guys teased him for it but he never wavered and stuck with it. It's heavy, awkward, and has a nasty recoil. But it sure as hell knocks a person on their ass in one shot. And one shot is usually all you have in war.
I remember the documentary, they interviewed people who'd been on the opposing force's side. The vast majority of "militia" we were fighting? Their glorious leader had them hopped up on so many combat drugs and stimulants that they didn't even realize the Delta guys were human beings. They thought they were fighting demons, and I don't mean that metaphorically. That's why they jumped for joy, cheering, and celebrating the enemy's deaths. They thought they had slain two actual factual Hellspawn and struck a blow against Damnation.
It’s a testament to Gordon and Shugart that their actual last stand at the downed chopper was much longer than depicted in the movie, and that Mike Durant said they were very calm the entire time. Not even Hollywood could make a more badass scene than the real life final stand of those two men
FACTS!! ALL FACTS BROTHER 👏🏾 🇺🇸
I’ve read the book 3 times. Agreed Sir
If they knew a fight was still on they wouldn’t call them off
Sure they would? What makes you think that?@@Laxa30
@@Laxa30 They had no way of reaching them with the mob of Somalis and the debris blocking the main routes. They had already lost enough helicopters that it was no longer a viable means of exfil. This is the reality of war.

Mike Durant is running for Senate in Alabama. The rescue mission was a success. Shughart and Gordon were heroes.
Did he win?

+MrAmericasbadboy A rare sight these days, alright.
0:55 Dude just strolling like it's another day in Somalia
Let's be honest. This is what constitutes a regular day in Somalia.

I hope they do a continuation of the back stories and such. Thank you for sharing brother.
the movie also doesn't depict the hundreds of other soldiers from various units supporting the rescue mission. It also paints the locals as all militia in which they were not. As old and as great as this film is, but every time I see Gordon go down and Shughart yelling out “FUCKK” that shit is still bone chilling

@PompousBreadRolls It may not be the best weapon ever, but there is a reason it was chosen by many special operations soldiers. It was accurate, reliable, and rugged. Was it the best at anything? Not really, but it did it's job well in the hands of a skilled marskman.
@@Chopstorm. the fact that it's preferred by Shugart himself makes him an entire different beast. Seeing him do work with that m14 is so cool and amazing. I might even consider using one as soon as I get in for the Navy Seals.
@@ditomasso6089did you make it?
@@ditomasso6089Hope you make it, man. God bless. I know a SEAL who loved the M14.
This movie has inspired me to become a Ranger. If I die in the line of duty, I want to go out like this. A last stand scenario.
Respect
ur black
a soo ain’t no such thing as race in the military just your brothers fighting with you and sisters to now
Kanen Wilkins awesome.im 12,my dad was with delta at the time(he was in Mogadishu),and I want to go to the second ranger bat. That was his previous unit
Knnaheinz Kratek talking to me?
When was Jamie Lannister a delta sniper?
He paid the final debt :D
They actually trained with actual Delta guys and used live rounds and explosives.
Before he lost the hand of course. :)
JamaicanOreo they used blanks
This scene makes me cry. The overwhelming courage of these guys. It is too much for me to comprehend. To be so brave.
3:44 to the end: I cry every single goddamn time. I pay all my respect to Shugart and Gordon.
They were the best
Shugart and Gordon left this world in a pile of brass and bodies. Those men knew exactly what was going on. They were hovering above the battle from the very beginning. They volunteered to go in and set up a temporary perimeter until ground support got there on foot. Shugart and Gordon faught tooth and nail to save Durant. "Let us not mourn that they are gone, instead we should celebrate that such men have lived."
I watched the scene for the first time with a bunch of Army vets and it was one of the most moving experiences of my life
I felt something in that room I’ve never felt before as those men knew some of these guys …
God bless our troops
If Shoughart & Gordon had more ammo, they would've defended the crash site until the rescue team arrived. Real-life heroes. Rest in power.
This is why I respect soldiers from any nation, they knew they were 2 against hundreds and they were more than likely going to die if they tried to save their comrades. But they went anyway.
My dad trained with both of them. He said that they were tough and did everything they were told.
The real crash site of Super-64 was much more confined than what you see here. Imagine fighting it out in a small backyard, just big enough for the BlackHawk fuselage...
Whenever I feel that the life is too hard, I just watch this scene. It helps every time.
this part of the movie broke my heart, they gave it their all
I remember rucking to Gordon and Shugart range at Fort Benning during Infantry training. Really drives home how legendary they are in the Army.
They went as a volunteers, which is a real heroism. Being outnumbered hundrets to one is clearly a suicide raid, but they went to support/rescue their compatriots. What a bravery, i bow to them.
Those two men were worth a thousand Somalis each. True courage.
Lee The Flea And people say Americans are ignorant racists. You prove them wrong buddy.
macnos I actually never said anything about race so this was a waste of well-executed sarcasm and condescension
'Tis a shame
Lee The Flea you actually did
Lee The Flea you just said that there lives for worth less maybe your life isn't worth it
Lee The Flea I'm not white scrum bug
These two deserve their own Sabaton song
That’s a genius idea
@Sabaton
these guys defined heroism and have courage that most of us could only dream of having. true warriors that died a warrior's death.
RIP Msgt. Gary Ivan Gordon and SFC. Randall David Shughart, who died so that a fellow soldier may live.
Truly, Men among Men. Knowing what they were walking into and requested it anyway. Exemplifies "laying your life for another."
These men did not deserve to die like that
Those two men are what this country has forgotten. Their sacrifice will never be forgotten
This movie, and Lone Survivor, are the two I know of that accurately represent the sound of a Suppressor.
😃
I didn't know that Jamie participated in the Somalian war in the early 1990s. Well I'll be damned.
They filmed this on location in Chicago.
Javier Vargas lol
hahaha
wasis
@Javier Vargas..oh my....I don't know whether to cry or laugh at that!
Chicongo wasn't it? Or maybe Chiraq?
That final “good luck” got to me, I understand his sacrifice completely
Just like Axe, Murphy and Dietz did in Afghanistan. Shughart and Gordon fought to the death in Somalia. The Somalis had shot away their bodies but not their spirit and even when they both ran out of ammo, the bastards still struggled to kill them. RIP warriors.
R.I.P. guys. This nation is built off of good men like you that fight for freedom. God bless you and your families.
Two of the greatest men to ever walk on earth. No greater warriors in the last 50 years. Truly incredible very special soldiers. Ultimate respect from Scotland 🏴
The Clintons:
Denying support since 1993
Trump: Pissing on dead veterans graves since 2016. Stop politicizing every single bit...
+EasyLee this isn't politicizing everything. This was the Clinton administration denying the use of Spectre Gunships, and attack helicopters. Resulting in 18 dead Americans, most were at crash sites defending the crew. Outcome would have been different if the mobs were being attacked from the air.
***** If... well damn...
Meecos that actually could lead to way too much collateral damage, what they caused without the gunships was already too much so they had no choice
Did anyone else notice that Shugart was using an M16 for a brief second?
Yup, the book mentioned that the Blackhawks carried 2 MP5s for the pilots and 2 M16s for the crew chiefs and everyone onboard had 9mm pistols on them.
Randy took it from the crashed helo
Underrated Critic it was actually a car-15
Jderpz23 Playz no it wasn't it was a m16 like they said. car-15 are much shorter
Ben Heron well it is shorter
2 heroes against a bunch of animals, rest in Valhalla
They chose to die in the glory of combat and became legends because of it. Definitely something out of Greek history
@@dubweiser9 the way you describe it sounds more like viking beliefs about entering vallhala
Politicians will and always be cowards and full of shite.
I cannot believe what the Somalis did to the bodies. I don't want to get too graphic but if you've read Durrant's books you'll know he wasn't hit with a gun butt
He was hit with a severed arm
I heard they decapitated one of the bodies, they also dragged them across the streets.
Uberjason5000 This is why I want to serve. To protect others from things like this.
It was the severed leg of his co-pilot Ray if I recall correctly.
Not only did he get cold-cocked with the severed limb of his co-pilot, it smashed his eye socket and his cheekbone.
In his book, he also said that when that crowd of people descended onto him, they were pulling on his gear so hard that he thought they were going to rip him to pieces.
Girl: You didn't cry at Titanic...? Do you have any emotions? Do you know what's sadness really means... Did you ever cry???
Me:
A wounded pilot armed with HK MP5A3 valiantly fending off a sawrm of AK toting Militias. I like that scene.
They killed around 46 militias and wounded more
@@Bullet-Tooth-Tony- no wonder that MP5 was known as the "skinny-popper" for a reason.
MP-5 to this date is one of the best SMGs if not the best. Too damn easy to control, proven and reliable. Always does the job as long as you're close enough.
@@vczs oh man. I REALLY wanna have my own MP-5 right now.
Those two ended up having the medal of honor. True courage as it is
I cried so hard at this part, knowing that it actually happened.
When your car breaks down in Sweden
High IQ joke
If they'd waited a few years they could've filmed this in Chicago or Portland.
I thought it was Detroit.
Oh you stupid American.
Take good look at your shitty country! 40 million homeless.
I was in Chicago in 2012 and it sure looked like Mogadishu ☠️
It just shows you how a true born soldier doesn't give up
“It’s good to see you.”
The man knows he just volunteered for certain death.
I think the snipers' goal was to just make sure the pilot didn't die alone. Seems the kind of brotherhood I remember from my time in the army
0:20 The Power of MP5
i keep watching this every few months for decades at this point. Still get goose bumps every time...
Im from Serbia and this is too sad to watch. It's like the ending of western civilisation.......this scene just brings me to tears.I can't even describe my anger with words while watching this.
Kosovo Je Srbija ! It is sad too see so many Western soldiers are fooled to fight on the wrong side like they did in the Balkans.
I LOVE THIS SCENE
GLORY FOR EVER FOR GORDON AND SHUGART!!!

"Friendlies."
"God, it's good to see you."
"It's good to see you."
Such an understated, beautiful line, that gives hope.
One of the saddest parts of the movie.. those guys are the definition of true heroes...not concerned with their own safety at all, risking everything to try and save someone else despite enormous odds when they knew they barely had a chance. Huge respect for Shughart & Gordon, RIP guys you are awesome...
Simon Vance this was not the saddest part this was the best part don’t mourn these great men just thank god they were born.
