It’s funny how the arms don’t even come close to crossing what so ever, yet Mezco shows a picture of him crossing his arms in their promo pics… how in the hell has this company not been sued for false advertising!? They lie about almost all of their products.
They cover themselves by saying "prototype shown." Even so, who's gonna spend thousands on a lawyer to sue them only for a judge to force Mezco to accept a return and refund the purchase cost?
I'm not saying it's a good idea, but if someone with enough money were to do it, and force them to allow *enough* returns, that might get their attention. The *only* thing these companies look at is the bottom line, shaped by sales and public opinion backing up those sales. If the cycle could ever be broken and negative opinion so much against them, it could FORCE a change. I think people are finally starting to understand what mezco is doing, but nothing *will* change unless the money train lets up.
@@JT-hp3cb I have cut way back on Mezco collecting and become much more vocal of my criticism of Mezco's business practices. Worse to me than a release not matching the prototype is the ever growing gap between when they charge customers (and retailers) and when they ship. Their policy says they can be charged up to 20 business days prior to shipping, yet lately they have been taking 25-30 business days quite regularly.
Far and away my biggest issue with the figure is how limited the arms are. Why did Mezco decide to make the biceps so much bigger to the point that crossing the arms is completely out of the question (especially when they have a promo image of him doing it)? Also the paint on the emblem of the holster on mine has some serious bleeding going on which is ridiculous for a $155 figure. I don’t think this a bad figure by any means, it’s just frustrating how close it came to being great.
Great Review. I do believe that single blast effect does indeed go onto his pointing finger. There are images from older classic comics showing him doing that. OR.. it could blast from another location since Doom Armor is weaponized everywhere, possibly from the crotch area ..😆
I do think it's a little large with the mask on and the hood down. But with the hood up it looks fine to me. I covered that in the details section of the video if you want to see.
Mostly looks like a near perfect fig, but yeah…the details ought to be better for the price, even though this toy is LOADED with stuff. I really wish we’d establish some standards with wired soft goods. Wires all around please, and thick enough wiring or flats that can let me literally “sculpt” a cape. Props for the Xylernian in the Iron Mask. Will definitely use that when I get my Marley. (Shipped to school during the break. 😜) ✌🏾➕✊🏾
I agree with you 100% I was so looking forward to this figure release and it was a total let down. One of the few Mezco figures I was hyped for and turned out to be the most disappointing figure of the year for me. Still hoping for that 1 be all to end all Dr. Doom. Maybe Mafex will save us one day soon and finally give us the definitive 6' Dr. Doom action figure.
Thanks for the review, not just pointing out the good but also the points for improvement. I'm not a huge Doom fan but just based on the pics I've seen of this figure, I'm most interested in the accessories. The ML Doom with soft goods does the job fine for me.
@@JT-hp3cb I'm alright with the heads that come with the ML figure. The main accessories I want for the ML are probably the effect pieces. Thanks for letting me know!
Bill, Mezco has great concepts and accessories. Sculpt vs articulation in action figures is like cattlemen vs sheep ranchers. Diffent uses or priorities for the same land. Thank you for the thorough review! I'm still waiting on this and the Spider-Man. Have you had success inserting a bottom wire into capes? If so, what gauge and material do you use?
You might not be able to get the classics folded arm pose but a guy on Reddit got him in a Dr Strange yoga meditating pose with the legs. He can still get lots of great poses
If you have a galley of amazing dynamic poses, I'd love to see it, but that yoga pose is the only pose I've seen so far that makes it look like it has great articulation. I'm not saying it's terrible, just that if it had 10% more range in the joints, it would be fantastic
I want to get this along with the FF set, but I just don't have the budget . For now, I'll just have to settle for my ML versions until I can muster enough funds to acquire these high-end versions if ever that day comes. I can just imagine what Mezco can do with the Silver Surfer. Hopefully a Ron Lim version of the surfboard.
I think it's a good figure, it had potential to be great but lacks in certain areas. Mezco should have taken some tips from Bandai DBZ figures and given a separate folded arms as accessory. :) In my view, the heads are looking big for that body, rest is all good.
between this and the fantastic four im heart broken to be honest. I was expecting the arms to fold and when i couldnt i almost cried, the fantastic four set was also a let down with sue storm being the same as dr strange witht the arms and johnny blaze was underwhelming. I do believe this is the best doom to date tho the accessories make the price point worth it for me but yea hopefully the dr ock will make up for it.
The xylerian guard? with mask from jacob marley with a nice custom soft goods wired cape and hoodie would look sick!! i have 2 excellent custom wired hoodie doom capes i got that would be great on it too bad don’t have that figure lol
I'm not a big Marvel fan but some character designs definitely stick out to me, always liked Doom's medieval meets tech look. Great looking figure and nice job pointing out its flaws as usual. Premium prices should warrant near perfection in these little details.
I was already thinking about canceling my preorder at BBTS... this video has convinced me to do it for sure now. Not impressed with this mezco. Not for $155
It is refreshing to hear someone critique a $100+ figure so much. I feel like a lot of people gloss over the small stuff and some times even big stuff on some of these figures but then do the opposite on domestic figures that cost less than $30. Great review as always
In regards to the cape. The Batman by gaslight cape goes past Batman's feet while Doom's does not. I don't see why it would need to be wired on the bottom as Doom's cape wouldn't be dragging to the floor like Bat's cape. The tunic seems a bit short. If u sitting him down he's giving u a sharon stone hello. The fig wasn't probably designed to be sitting so eh. By now imo we shouldn't have to be dealing with cell batteries for powered accessories or figures. Batteries rechargeable via USB cable have been around for decades. using cell batteries is only good for taking pics for a lil while then the batteries die. If ZD Toys can utilize rechargable batteries in their iron man figs Mezco shouldn't have an issue utilizing the same. I'm waiting on Alter Ego to send my invoice for Doom. Patiently waiting (twiddling thumbs) 😁 Thanks for vid and Happy New Year!
The length of the cape doesn't matter to me, what I want is a cape that doesn't billow out uncontrollably....Fortunately his crotch is armored, so no risk of exposing his beaver. And yeah unless you rig up a connected lighting system for easy on and off across the entire collection, light up features are only really good for photos no matter what type of batteries they have.
Length doesn't matter. I have all manner of wire capes. It helps with your posed fall and drape, is all. Any action in the cape can only improve a pose. Missing that wire makes a difference.
This Mezco Doctor Doom is the first Mezco figure with diecast part I believe and it's also a collaboration design between Mezco and Mythic Legions. That's why it looks like a Mythic Legions figure in some way.
@@DorkLair You are right... I totally forgot about the Iron man... they used to include some diecast parts in those very old figures. I don't believe any new figures released in the recent 2-3 years have any diecast parts?
I think this one is a golden masterpiece! The only thing I miss is that messco didn't take some liberties with the unmasked face. Dr doom is the grandfather of Darth Vader, and in the original story, he was horribly disfigured during an experiment. I think his face is bland😂❤☠️
I've not read much of the old comics, but I always thought that he thought he was horribly disfigured, but it was just a little scarring. the irony was supposed to be that his vanity made him think he was awful to look at. Am I confusing that with another character?
There is nothing more annoying than weak floppy wires. I get what they are trying to do, a happy medium between posed and draped but it doesn’t work at all
Thanks for the review. One of my pet peeves is armors with unpainted buckles. One of the main reasons I dislike most of the army builders from Mythic. Funnily enough, the one exception are the dwarves with the full helmet (the one with sculpted beard), which I see as a golem. @@DorkLair true, I think I wasn’t really clear in my point. I mean the “leather” part of the buckle. To be fair, in Doom’s Armor, they seem to be really small. But the “fur” part of the belt being metallic always throws me off. But I’m aware it’s a personal strange pet peeve.
