    How sad that this lady told her family she wanted to die and where she was going to do. There is no excuse why she was not found until now. The family now has closure but 38yrs of not knowing is unforgivable. God bless her and now may she rest in peace xx

      @@utley she was in a narrow, shallow canal exactly where she said she would be. A pair of goggles would have been sufficient. She could have been easily found if anyone had just bothered to look.

    For everyone who says their celebration is inappropriate, if I had put that much effort into to finding someone I would celebrate too. They are happy they accomplished what they set out to do and it shows how invested they are in the search.

      @@cajbafto do something right you need to love what you do they work for free sometimes they get donations but still the work they put in is a lot . The happiness in solving a case is the full that makes then keep going with their work.

      Disrespect never crossed my mind because nobody else bothered to look. They respected the family enough to go there and team up. And they don't even get paid for the service. That equipment isn't cheap.

    I was a tow and recovery truck driver for several years. Believe me, there are many things I wish I could "un-see". God bless the AWP team for continuing to help families to find resolve and peace. If any of you ever make it to the Lake Eufaula area of Alabama I would be happy to volunteer my time and familiarity with the area in any capacity that you may need.

      So many people commenting about how long it took and why didn’t they do it sooner. Think of all the cold cases that may have not been uploaded to computers, take into account when this detailed sonar was created and then became available. Then the sorting and someone to rediscover info to even look back into it. I bet the numbers are mind boggling

    What a shame that she is exactly where she said she would be and no one did their due diligence to find her until decades later!
    And to add fuel to the fire, the amount of vehicles at the bottom of this decently small canal is absolutely disappointing.
    Bless all these men for bringing some closure to these beautiful souls.

      I can't begin to imagine some of the things these men have seen so who are we to judge how they handle the situation?
      Some people are quiet, some detach completely.
      It might come across to some as being disrespectful because they are loud and smiling but everyone deals with death differently and these men have most likely seen more dead bodies than most of us will in our lifetime.

    I appreciate Jared's quiet demeanor during the discovery. I mean it's certainly an amazing thing that they've found her, but I feel like there should be quiet respect because it's someone's final resting place.

      Came here to say the same thing, considering the location, surrounded with family homes, there celebration could have taken place away from public eyes. I understand adrenaline, excitement etc, but empathy more

    It's crazy discovering this channel and realizing how many cars are low key at the bottom of bodies of water everywhere and nobody even knows they are there.

      There was a small fishing pound we use to go to almost every weekend. Water had been down 25 feet at its lowest. Randomly they found a car with a guys wife in it. Had been down there for 8 years. We never saw it, no one that went there had ever saw it. Then one day the water was just right and there it was. It freaked the hell out of everyone.

      Many vehicles were likely ditched here after being used in crimes, including insurance fraud. They would run every vehicle found to see if attached to a missing person case.

      @@JenAmazed42you are choosing to look at it from a weird angle. Yes, it’s sad but it’s also joyous. I’m sorry but if you believe their celebration is anything other than pure adrenaline, and joy and tons of other emotions is weird then that’s a you problem. And I mean that in the nicest way. You can’t tell people how to process their own emotions. Jared has been doing this for awhile, while one of those men said it was their first day I do believe. I thought it was Incredible to see the energy shift, it’s real. You want people to put on a front? This is real life, real people, real emotions. In my opinion the only thing I noticed is how smooth Jared ran while the others seemed to get confused, tag a vehicle more than once, and just be discombobulated. Once again it’s the difference between years of experience vs doing it a few years or just starting out.

    When a parent commits suicide like she did, the children are the saddest victims and their pain never completely heals. "Closure" is grossly overrated as many surviving family members have little peace, anger, abandonment issues and unanswered questions.

      This episode is before all Jared’s co-workers abandoned him on the words of one CHILD…misspent youth can be dug up now that Jared is successful…..NO PROOF, JUST WORDS, AND THEY FLED THE SHIP WITH NO PROOF OF ANYTHING….SHAME ON YOU DB AND THE OTHERS…..YOU were only in it for yourselves!!!!!

      I know..and I thought she was a young mom with little kids..I.wonder why she told the family she wanted to die and how she was going to do it...Amazily nobody like thought lets check the area.she told us all..Several police or civilian divers could have found her many years ago..That is the part i find.odd..

    38 years ago, the authorities had a lack of ambition to find this woman. If she told family she was going to drive her car into the canal, the canal should have been the first place to check. Unbelievable.

    I find it so scary that there were so many cars just left sitting there. Like how many are unsolved crimes? How many have deceased people in them? So sad to think about. You guys are a real blessing.

    As I watch this I myself am 47 years old with a history of depression. Yesterday was Maureen's birthday. It is sobering to see what a life can come down to. Thank you Jared for giving her dignity in her final story.

      Genevieve - if you have a provider- get them to order MTHFR- if you are positive you might need methylated folate. (I am not a doctor, but I am speaking from experience. I suffered from depression for 45 years) hang in there- you are important.

      They found 24 cars. That should tell you something.
      I lived near a canal and cars drove in it on a regular basis.

      The back is the last to sink when you drive in a canal and there will be an air pocket. So that is where she tried to get out.
      It also could be a crime. Don't fantazize over something you don't know

    It's always so sad to see cars pulled out and then hearing someone say there's remains inside. Knowing the person inside felt so lost and hopeless as they made their final decision to send their car into water. Thank you for continuing this mission of bringing loved ones back home and cleaning up the environment in the process. You guys are amazing!

    As a former PADI SCUBA Instructor/DiveMaster/Rescue Diver, about the timeframe she went missing...I can't believe they didn't do search behind her house with SCUBA at the time she went missing, given she said exactly what she intended to do. It just baffles me why they didn't at do a cursory grid search in that area back then. If I had been a friend of that family, I would dove back there just to make sure. The visibility really is decent actually, no need for sonar using a bottom grid search method.

      I was thinking this. I’m not a diver, but I wouldn’t be able to live without knowing if my mother is in the water behind my house. I would’ve learned. I would’ve made it my profession. I would’ve called on whoever I could to dive the spot and help me clear my doubt, my worries. If it were my friend, I’d do the same. Look for her until she is found.

      Well, the family already suspected she was in the water and met her demise. Now they can bury her properly. I rather find my loved one and have peace of mind, and know where they are. It's important to know. Our family had a tragic loss in the mid 60's. My 14 year old mentally challenged cousin was found after several weeks, floating in the east river. As tragic as that was, not knowing where he was, was worse.

    I am flabbergasted at the amount of sunken cars in that canal! It’s wonderful that you found Maureen’s car with her in it. It’s a very somber feeling that comes over me, though, connecting with the sight of that car making its first appearance since that day that Maureen plunged into the canal in it.

      Im sure in 1985 they didn't have the technology they do today that was used to find her.

      @@michelleblose226 They started out as drainage and flood control canals which would have to deal with multiple hurricane storm events through the year. Some of them may have been deepened further to make them navigable for private boats.

    I find it shocking that nobody apparently was looking for her and also learning how many vehicles are there sunken in some water anywhere in the U.S. I am glad the lady will be put to rest now. Great job of the whole teams.

      If you knew what was at the bottom of large lakes (natural or man-made, canals, old quarries, etc.), you'd probably never feel comfortable swimming in one again. 😬

    I was scared there was going to be gators in the water. Man there were so many cars!! I know the other cars weren't what they were looking for but i can't help but wonder about those too!! Great teamwork on this case. Jared I hope you're taking care of yourself. Noticed you was coughing a lot in this video and a bit under the weather. It's ok to rest and take care of yourself as well

      They did say they were going to give all the plate numbers to the police to make sure they didn’t miss any other unsolved cases.

    I don’t understand why they didn’t look for her 38 years ago, she literally told them where she would be! Thank you to this crew for finding her… giving both Maureen and her family the peace and answers they deserve. Best wishes from Australia 🇦🇺 x

      Probably didn't have the right resources to search for her. Also, they had nothing but what she said to children as to the fact she was going to take her own life. The police could only take a missing person report. Thanks to all who worked to bring Maureen home.

      Update 3/12: the team was here in Douglas County working on this a few days ago! 💖 Sadly no sign of the missing teacher, but they left some equipment they thought could be helpful. 👊🙏
      I immediately thought of this team coming to Douglas County Oregon....a Glide schoolteacher reportedly drove off the road into the river. Sadly, the vehicle has been found, but the driver is missing from it, as the windows were reportedly busted out. 😢
