JD Souther co-wrote many great songs with Glenn Frey of the Eagles. He also wrote songs for, and harmonized with artists like Linda Ronstadt - Prisoner in Disguise and Faithless Love - and James Taylor - Her Town Too...and Don Henley - The Heart of the Matter. You might want to listen to those. They are all very, very good!
I have loved this song for over 40 years. I also Love your t-shirt. I have tigers hanging all over my apt. Thanks for listening to this classic from JD Souther.
It's a short song ... and I don't have trouble with the repetitiveness. It IS repetitive, but there are subtle additions to each verse that establish the story ... and of course, when you're truly lonely, life FEELS repetitive.
Actually this is a very happy song 1. it is in a major key 2. it has a background of "doo wop" which is a 1950s American style all super happy chord progression 3. it has JDSouther's soothing voice 4. he is there for somebody when they need him what is sad about that? A sad song is in a minor key and doesn't have a doo wop background to it. The first two things mean it cannot be sad. But if you only focus on the words and you only look at it from the sad point of view then you will miss all of the good stuff :-) The repetition about the song is what makes it good because it repeats the doo wop chord progression and he is humming in a soothing way. It is a great driving song! I think this is a happy song.
Such a great song! Takes me straight back to the year it was released: 1979.
Love J D Souther ! A Angels voice . Good reaction 💗

Wow. She was loving it. And rightly so.
Bro - don't miss out.
If you liked JD's voice here, listen to him sing with James Taylor on "Her Town Too" a song about James breakup with Carly Simon

Listen to Used to be her Town with James Taylor
This is my girlfriend's favorite.
This is the first time you’ve heard this? Where you been?
They've been NOT LISTENING to 1970s music - no crime. STFU. They finally heard it, and they appreciate it. Grow the hell up.
