Awesome ! John David Souther (J.D.) great songwriter and beautiful voice. J.D. co-wrote some fine classic songs for the Eagles with Don Henley and Glenn Frey of the Eagles. 🥰
I heard this song for the first time this morning on the radio and the piano, acoustics, and guitar had me hooked. It’s so beautiful and romantic. It’s my new favorite.
There is a live version it will have a big biker dude introducing them and when they play you can hear they are definitely live because some feedback happens while hes playing but its still great.
I love this as one of the best of the 70s. You're so right on the piano fills. And UA-cam concert videos I love as a 70 yr old wasn't into MTV videos, I want to see the performers. Great reaction!
Check out JD Souther and James Taylor doing "Her Town"...Also JD recorded some songs he wrote that others had recorded like "New Kid in Town" and "Lyin' Eyes"
Until now I d never stop listening this wonderful song by JD Souther it feels to listen the lyrics remembering my teenager time before now I'm 72 still I love this song it refreshes soul and going back the memories of the man I love😢.
Great song, chad thank you sweetie. When i sing this song i always say when your old & lonely. 😉 j.d.dated linda ronstad early on. Wrote for & with the eagles. Chad great reaction. 🎶🎶🎶💔💔
In case people didnt know, he wrote many many songs for the Eagles, he was more famous than most people realize, we all knew that back in the day, when this song was played non stop on the radio, he was so good but most of his work was writing .
Great reaction , I love JD Southern 💗🎶He was asked by Eagles to join them he declined but he wrote New kid in town a hit by Eagles .ty for the memories.🎶🎵❤️
He has written so many great songs. My favorite is Silver Blue. He sings it with Linda Ronstadt. He also did some acting on a tv show called Thirty Something.
this song by JD Souther was one that many bands covered because it was in an era when acoustic guitars ruled the airwaves....thanks for reviewing it...I love singing it myself.
Always loved this one. Nice reaction. The Linda Ronstadt song you mentioned "White Rhythm and Blues" is another beautiful balled to relax to and Linda's voice is in peak form.
Oh Yes. Thanks Chad. JD is an incredible songwriter and singer. He also wrote for the Eagles and Linda Ronstadt, among others. There was a group of 70's California singers/songwriters who included him, Jackson Browne, Linda, Glenn Frey and Don Henley. I bet you like his earlier stuff too. I'm sending a link to Linda Ronstadt's Faithless Love studio version. JD wrote it and sang harmony with her on the 1974 Heart Like a Wheel album. I still have my vinyl. Linda is strong and vulnerable at the same time. She and JD were a thing for a while. I would love you to react to it. I didn't see it on a playlist. ua-cam.com/video/UMUw67bNQ8Q/v-deo.html
Nice reaction, Chad. You make a good point about how great it is to be able to see the performances also. Did anyone else hear this on the radio back in the day and think he was singing about being “old and lonely”? Makes no sense to me now. Thanks for playing this one. I appreciate it as he intended now.
@@rcherry1978 Nice LOL. When I was really little, like 1st or 2nd grade, we would watch Ozzie and Harriet just to hear Ricky sing. Not sure he was going for the 6-7 year old demographic. Then the Beatles happened. Such fickle children.
Did you know that he co wrote New kid in town? He had a relationship with Linda Ronstadt. She covered his song Simple man, simple dreams. It's a beauty! James Taylor also recorded a song together with him called Her town too. Please react to those songs
I loved this song when it came out even though it had that basic I-VI-IV-V chord progression (for the most part) of a lot of doo-wop songs. It may be one of the only JD Souther songs I know. Not sure; would have to look at discography.
I just have to add this. In the old days of music most of the artists had live bands instead of the lip sing to background music some where in studio. I think the best band doing it these days is Nickelback. That's what was so good about growing up in the 60s. There were live bands everywhere. They were called garage bands in the old days. It was a time for music and the whole culture changed everything. If your interested in more Righteous Brothers try Georgia. It's a Bill Medley addition to the guys.
Thus far, this is my favorite live performance by J.D. Souther. His songs had a common theme of caring. His voice is spot on beautiful. ua-cam.com/video/ESTLOcFKMxo/v-deo.html
Sorry ,my English is not good enough yet but i have to say it is one of my favorite songs , i never tire of listening to it
Greetings from Peru
Your English is great and I agree, I love this song too!!!!
One of my favorite songs. Sweet, tender, & a little haunting.
How about that flawless live performance wow !!!!! RIP JD Souther
Well yes it was the recording playing over that live performance
NOT live
Beautiful voice , yup
I was 10 when this song came out. I still love it after all of these years. It's still played on today's juke boxes.
Watch J.D SOUTHER performance at farm aid , 1986 ,
This is one of my very favorite songs! He still sounds the same too, but he looks so completely different now that he's older.
I adore this song and his voice . So sweet and loving ❤
Great songwriter and singer. Good song. Cute guy.
Love this version!❤
Awesome ! John David Souther (J.D.) great songwriter and beautiful voice. J.D. co-wrote some fine classic songs for the Eagles with Don Henley and Glenn Frey of the Eagles. 🥰
Love This Song!!
RIP to my HERO John David Souther, who wrote hits for The Eagles, Linda Ronstadt and many others. He Also dated Linda and Stevie Nicks
I heard this song for the first time this morning on the radio and the piano, acoustics, and guitar had me hooked. It’s so beautiful and romantic. It’s my new favorite.
Welcome to when music was great!
And romantic. I loved to have my girl sitting close to me driving down the road listening to this kind of music.
Who's playing the piano?
Without Jd, there would have been no band known as the eagles. One of the greats.
I remember this song once I heard his voice. I think he was a cutie. Nice song!!!!!
Love this song he has a beautiful voice
I cried
Oh, blast from the past! 👍🥰
Great song. Thanks for the memory !
I will check k out more from this artist. I love what I've heard so far. I too love the acoustics
I love this song and I was 33 when it came out. So great to see this singer and how gorgeous he was!
There is a live version it will have a big biker dude introducing them and when they play you can hear they are definitely live because some feedback happens while hes playing but its still great.
I love that performance so much, too feedback not withstanding: just heavenly! ❤

New Kid in Town was one of his songs as well, the Eagles completed a few notes, but he basically wrote it.
Great song, chad thank you sweetie. When i sing this song i always say when your old & lonely. 😉 j.d.dated linda ronstad early on. Wrote for & with the eagles. Chad great reaction. 🎶🎶🎶💔💔
Great song.😊🥰 Reminiscent of '50s music. I agree with those who say it reminds them of Roy Orbison's music.
I thought Roy orbison very quickly when I heard this. Maybe del Shannon as well
One of my all-time favorite songs!
In case people didnt know, he wrote many many songs for the Eagles, he was more famous than most people realize, we all knew that back in the day, when this song was played non stop on the radio, he was so good but most of his work was writing .
True time machine ability to relive great moments!❤
This is sure true for me: UA-cam's time machine effect where you can relive a concert or see the ones I missed along the way-priceless!❤
I've loved this song since I was a little kid. You heard the same version I grew up with
Great reaction , I love JD Southern 💗🎶He was asked by Eagles to join them he declined but he wrote New kid in town a hit by Eagles .ty for the memories.🎶🎵❤️
He wrote a bunch of songs with the Eagles, and Linda Ronstadt 💜
He was even asked to join the Eagles, but declined😊
He has written so many great songs. My favorite is Silver Blue. He sings it with Linda Ronstadt. He also did some acting on a tv show called Thirty Something.
Excellent reaction to a great great song..

Old school easy listening. Nice to hear. Thanks for playing it.
A live masterpiece even without the backup singers. A previous comment stated J.D. is a cutie. I agree too!!
A cutie w/ a beautiful voice.
Fantastic song and voice! been a while since I heard this....keep up the great work with reacting to these wonderful and timeless oldies :)
I was listening to 'You're Only Lonely' on the 19th, and I stumbled over a video on UA-cam announcing his passing on the 17th 😢
Roy Orbison did this a long time ago. JD sounds like Roy. Amazing. Thank you. Now I'm going to get out my Roy Orbison CD.
Roy actually sang "Only The Lonely", this is J.D.s tribute to the great Orbison.
Always loved this one. Nice reaction. The Linda Ronstadt song you mentioned "White Rhythm and Blues" is another beautiful balled to relax to and Linda's voice is in peak form.
If you need to cry some tears listen to this song, i know i can never listen to it without all that emotion needing to get out
He wrote or helped write a lot of Eagles songs. And for other artist. There's a great video of him with James Taylor singing Her Town.
Thank you for this Chad! It has been years since I heard this song and I've always loved it! Good memories!
I love this song. 😀
Love this song.

RIp JD Souther,it also helps when your backing vocals included Phil Everly and three members of the Eagles

Amazing singer...amazing song👍👍💎💎💎👑👑
It has a serious Roy Orbison feel to it
Love JD and this tune. This always sounded to me like it was inspired by Roy Orbison.
He wrote hits for the Eagles, definitely influenced their early years!
My mom and Dad probably listened to this.
Nice! Beautiful voice, lovely song. :)
Oh law!! How old J.D. looks ... And this was 2 yrs ago. SMH!! But then, there am I!!! LOL!
สุดยอดครับ❤
WOW BRINGS BACK MEMORIES WHEN I WAS 32 YRS OLD THANK YOU SO MUCH FOR LISTENING SIR.
REST IN PEACE
J.D.
The greatest tribute to Roy Orbison ever
This song drips of a Ricky Nelson , Roy Orbison influence
Yes, melody sounds like Roy, instrumentals like Ricky.
@@janicetrimmell6897You got it Janice , no pun intended towards the Roy Orbison song by the way
@@rcherry1978 Nice LOL. When I was really little, like 1st or 2nd grade, we would watch Ozzie and Harriet just to hear Ricky sing. Not sure he was going for the 6-7 year old demographic. Then the Beatles happened. Such fickle children.
@@janicetrimmell6897 ah yes that is what I like to call the good old days. Iife was simple and the music was great
I could always hear Roy Orbison sing this - great tune !

At first, I wondered if this was "Only The Lonely" and a typo in the notification. Actually, this song almost sounds like Roy's song...
Yes, it does.
I believe it was JD's way of paying homage to one of his heroes
Rip JD
Phil Everly sang background on recording
Linda Rhonstadt loved this guy!

Sounds like a Roy Orbison song
“Suthr,” right? Like “southern”?
Lol... You are most likely right with the pronunciation. This is what an authentic FIRST TIME reaction is all about! Thanks for the correction.

Sad to learn that J.D. has passed away.
A total tribute to Roy Orbison!
This is a song you just can't listen to it once!!!
Wrote many songs for the Eagles!!!
Music. Instruments. Lyrics. Singing. Not the stuff you hear today.
No one can sing this like Jimmy Fortune !
