Jay, thank you so much for having my car on your show and for being so kind to my family and I at the filming. It was a once in a life experience that none of us will ever forget!!
-John Lewin
Beautiful 911s. Great progression of engine upgrades.
Beautiful 911! Great job, and I like the color choices. I've really enjoyed watching both you and Matt Murphy over the years on the true crime shows.
Truth be told, that 911 is perfect. Slighty upgraded with ST flares but never going too far away from the original design. His Fuchs wheels in correct 15 inch size look great and the cars stance is perfect.
It's very, very nice! Using a Ferrari silver paint code instead of a Porsche one is an interesting choice. I love the Recaro SR3 seats too.
I could listen to John Lewin talk about anything! Greatest prosecutor!
This is one of the best you have done, great car and cool guest.
It's mad its 55 years old and just looks awesome they never age and goes like a rocket
That is because all the 55-year-old mechanicals have been stripped out and replaced by better Porsche parts. There really isn't much left of the original car but the frame and some flared body panels. That paint is not 55 years old. That interior is not 55 years old.
@waynekaminski5438 bruh there are 100+ year old cars that are 99% original that still run fine... your comment doesnt make any sense
I'm still using my great-grandpa's hatchet. Over all those years we've only had to replace the handle three times, and the head twice. They just don't make 'em like they used to!
And my broom as been in the family 50 years. It’s had about 10 new brushes and ten handles.
somewhere under all those upgrades is one original body panel someone forgot to cut out
@@ronnieleebailey it’s the only good part of the car 😂👌
I truly appreciate Jay. I look forward to seeing him every week talk about this week’s pick and giving us a fantastic lesson on the history of the automobile. Such a wealth of information and insight. Thx again Jay.
I understand that this guy is a rich guy and doesn't "have time" to learn and work on his own car but this video / guy is the reason why I stress to people to learn and work on your own cars / bikes and whatever you're into! Once all those guys that know are gone..... unfortunately this car will sit stagnant in his garage. Wonderful car!
The owner really is thrilled with jay’s reaction on what he thinks of the car. His face lights up like a Christmas tree. Nice to see. Good work on that old Porsche.
And Jay's face was like shut up so I can get through this creepy interview.
I was thrilled. Jay’s approval was quite a treat!!
That's the car that got me hooked on Porsche... What a lovely automobile...
wish Jay would feature more cars from his own collection...
That’s where this channel started. There is a video on most of his cars. Go back and watch them.
He has for a decade
Same, those are always my favorite vids.
Jay Leno: Pandemic Edition were the best. ❤
It is nice to see other cars.
amazing he ha been riding in that car since he was 5 years old!!
What a beautiful car and the family history is exceptional,,,
Great 1969 911S ! I think the Porsche flares, wider rims, suspension & brake upgrades are perfect - although I admit, the car is in the family for several
decades - if I had it when it was still original decades ago, I probably would have done the 930 style mechanical updates & leave it more original cosmetically, maybe sitting up 1 inch higher.
👍👏☝️💪💪💪
This also brings me back to when I was in autocross (was also called gymkhana back then) 1977 to 1980, with my 71 Opel Manta coupe - was always great to see the original 1960s-70s 911 cars come to the events, especially the PCA events; and working at a VW Porsche shop summers 1976-78.
A friend of mine who runs a channel here on UA-cam named Budget Buildz pulled a '73 Porsche out of a local junkyard that was set to be scrapped and he & his dad have totally rebuilt it. I believe you Porsche guys would really enjoy seeing the transformation they've done with it! And I have to mention that he's only like 27 years old!
I saw their videos and it turned out great. It wasn’t a meticulous restoration but i was glad to see a 911 being saved. These cars are getting more far because of their values are rapidly increasing. So it was a nice content.
Just watched a couple of their vids on the targa, thanks to your comment so, thank you! Awesome restoration huh
Mr. Leno , You have been a very busy man most your life . Thank you for taking the time to share with us all your hobbies . Take care , Tom J. , Sitka Alaska
Something about the sounds you get from an early, air-cooled 911 always makes me happy. Mechanical music of a subtle kind, not shouty.
And the 6 individual throttle bodies on an MFI car sound even MORE glorious!
Agreed, I also like the sound of the four cylinder in the 912
993 with a slightly modified exhaust makes a superb noise
Angry and buzzy, but not shouty
Jay is one of the last few of my generation with the love of all things automotive and the passion for everything mechanical. So many just see the beauty of automobile design from the curb. The old guys like us notice the beauty of everything from the paint job and flares. We see the beauty and thought of the old engineers in something simple like the bolt and clamp holding the ignition coil on that old original beetle.
Absolutely lovely car. The quality of the resto-customness of the car is fantastic! John has great taste; the car is exactly what I would want! Thanks John, Jay, and The Crew for putting this episode out! ✌️❤️🙂🇨🇦
Imagine how nice it would have looked with those red seats and the exterior resprayed in the original midnight blue.
The super super beetle!
Thanks Jay for all that you do , look forward to all your uploads , the people make the cars
(guy) 'Its an electric sun roof, maybe one of the first year Porsche had it...(Jay) oh no, you know I've got an electric sunroof in my 63' carrera'. -Don't try and flex on Jay- he is the man!
Ha yes. "You know this car was designed personally by the great Sergio Sergierri, Jay", "Oh cool, Yea he was here at the garage a few times". "You know this may be one of the rarest of cars from the 30s, Jay".. "Oh that's cool, I have the original prototype and the other 2 of the series over in the other room"
A quick internet search shows documented electric sunroofs available in the 1958 356 cars. I couldn't verify if that was the earliest year though. Not sure about when the 911 models first got electric sunroofs. A man only has so much time to be pedantic.
we’re there 911s in ‘63?
@@grantroberts4231 I believe Jay when he said he has one from 63, without needing to cross check.
@grantroberts4231 He talking about his 356 Carrera (which he isn't sure is a B or a C.)
I wish I could have read Jay's mind when Lewin said he dumped the original engine and repainted the car in Ferrari silver.
Someone has scored along the line with all the oem parts they took off that car
Sounds like his _dad_ actually did that. Back then, people weren't thinking of future collectible value. But restomods like this (done right) often bring in more money than originals, at auction these days. Paint color is subjective. I would have gone with the rarer factory blue color, but each owner is different. You like what you like and paint can always be changed.
WOW what a beautiful car.....Thanks Jay and John...
I would describe the seats as "oxblood" and I absolutely love that colour right beside cognac they are by far my two favourite colours for any interior.
Car sounds great! Love the look too!
Great car. TLG does a great job. Marco is a fellow R grupper. I have a CA ANDAIL built street car race a 73 with 935 engine. Now has 325 hp. Its been my favorite car since I got it 20 years ago. Tkx Jay for another great show!
My family has owned a 1959 356 convertible d since new in 1959. My mother and grandfather drove it home from the dealership. She was 4 years old. Convertible D is the rarest 356. Its a speedster with roll up windows and a slightly taller windshield and cushioned seats
Best parts are not only showing the work, yet ,when they are driving and they're expressions show the fun they're having on the builds
Thanks for the show, Great car/story.
Singer isn’t real…
I would LOVE to have a not real Singer!!!!
Thanks Jay for sweetening our lives with ALL the cars you show us.
Trying to figure this out.
Elvis - The King of Rock and Roll
MJ - The King of Pop
Leno - The King of Excellent driving machines????
Help me out guys…
JAY LENO -
THE KING OF…
RAD???
COMBUSTION???
THE KING OF WHEELS????
THE GARAGE KING???
Jay is the car collection king.
He is also - automotive historian & preserver.
I have a stock 1974, 911 T. In 2023, I had the transmission and engine rebuilt. If I had a lot of extra disposable cash, I wouldn’t mind having my 911 upgraded the way John did his. It looks like a really great car the way he’s upgraded it.
This machine is absolutely beautiful & I agree Porsche, for me at least, will always be Silver over red or Guards Red over black.
Man him saying "My son and I said the F1 was the car!" Thats him strickly going off Value, i do believe and my personal favorite car in his collection is the 1953 Cunningham C3 1 of 25 ever built, and I think every Cunningham is accounted for.
I don't think that's true. Many people would agree it's the greatest car ever made for road driving. The value is just the result of that.
@@wyskass861 That's understandable.
@@wyskass861 Yep , true it's value is because of that .
The greatest road driving car ever made very analogue , next I would say the Ferrari F40 .
I wish Jay would feature Peter Egan's cars/motorcycles someday.
Lots of comments about Jay not wearing his seat belt. Judging by the owner’s belt in the passenger seat, Jay could just be wearing the Simpson lap belts.
Love this video! There is nothing like a beautiful classic car. Great story
Once again just two car guys! You won't get this anywhere else but at Jay Leno's Garage. Thanks Jay
Jay looks a lot leaner in this video...I'm not saying unhealthy just hope he's ok. Great video though
He doesn’t sound great.
Looks frail… always a bit scary to see a big guy shrink.
Ya know I was saying the same things. Def not the same even as less than a year ago. Even when talking about the car couldn’t get it right about the engine and the work done. I love Jay Leno and think he’s amazing. He doesn’t seem right though at all. Pray for him everyone. True legend in every way possible
Jay Leno has been through a lot - his wife Mavis has dementia, if I remember correctly. THAT is extremely difficult to deal with, as well as the aging process for yourself.
Dementia is difficult for any family! I was caregiver to my Mom (dementia, blood pressure issues) & Dad (2 strokes, Alzheimer's, Parkinson's) for more than 15 years, the last 6 years I was with them 24x7, I was not working at all. #muchrespect & our Lord's Blessings & Armor of Protection for caring for his wife Mavis and continuing their marriage the way it is supposed to be! 🙏🙏☝️☝️
My dad bought two Porsche's from a guy at Pomona Swap Meet back in March of 85. The best out of two was a 1968 911S Targa Softwindow. It needed a respray of its guards red.. that's all it needed. He just added some polished 85 turbo Fuchs and called it a day.
It's my mom's, and the other is my dad's. Both cars have less than 500 miles on them since that March.
He said none of us kids are getting any of his car collection. He said they go to auction and mom gets the money.
Beautiful example of a tastefully modified 911 and it's an amazing story of the passion passing through three generations.
I disagree with it being a Singer on a budget as this is the original style that Singer was inspired by.
As a life-long lowrider, I agree, it makes no sense but I have found there is an undeniable charm to having a car that is best enjoyed cruising the city at a relaxed pace vs a performance car tearing up canyons. Just my $0.02.
I absolutely love the stance of that little car an the pure sound
After a few years, a man will tell his son, this was done by my grandfather, that was done by your grandfather. Car was built to drive, but they carry more than people but also memorizes.
I'm not a Porsche guy, nor can I afford one but... this is what I'd buy if I could.
Had a 72T that had a 2.4 with mechanical. Thing ran very very well.
What's to love about a 911 engine compartment? But the rest of the car is beautiful. Special its been in the family for generations.
Flat six motors in full song are something else. 🥰
Thats a special car in perfect condition
What a great episode. I've had my 87 black coupe for 20 plus years. Champaign, IL interior. Lowered, Steve Wong chip and Bilstein's plus, a front shock tower stabilizer bar. That's it. I drive it regularly just hitting 150 K miles. She purrs like a kitten. As always, thanks, Jay.
I’m with the dad on this one, should’ve kept the paint dark blue
The 914 is also an awesome Porsche, I'm glad you are also featuring that on your channel, but featuring this Porsche as well.
If you say so. The 914 was considered a VW/Porsche ugly duckling. Only the 914-6 models were considered somewhat desirable in their day.
Awesome is a stretch for a 914- unless it's the -6. Even then...
well done!
I've said it once, I'll say it again.. I bloody love Jay!
I like the sounds from the older Porsche engines, a lot more raw and raspy.
My Favorite UA-cam channel Jay Leno’s Garage!
Jay's garage the website before he was on youtube is the reason I got my first email address.
Beautiful
Of all of the guys that have ever been on here, I wish when they got back Jay would have said you wanna go for a ride in mine?
Jay was actually kind enough to give us a personal tour of the entire place for more than an hour, and then took us out in his steamer which actually broke down twice during our ride. 🤣
Rarely do your heroes turn out to be the kind of people you hope they will be, but Jay surpasses expectations. A truly kind and decent man and incredibly knowledgeable!!
@johnlewin2389 That's super cool!
You were a great guest. I really liked how you asked him about his cars. We're all fans of Jay's and you showed it. I don't know any hundreds of millions millionaires but I doubt many are as good a guy as him.
And by the way I totally agree with your exterior and interior choices 👍
Nice Guy ..nice Car .. nice Porsche Sound !!!
Better handling, better brakes, better power, better handling......you said better handling already forget about it Lefty.
I'll grant that it's a nice build, though had it been mine I would've preferred leaving it with the original S engine and drivetrain rather than put in a later SC transplant. I think I would've left it in the "midnight blue" as well, especially if my dad has chosen that paint-to-match color at the beginning. But right now it's his car and he's free to do with it as he pleases. And as long as he's happy with it who can really argue that it's wrong to restomod even a relatively rare variant like the 911S.
What a fantastic car story!
“Exhaust sounds great”. “Yeah that’s the exhaust” 😅
ole Jay is movin slow lately ,,hope all is well
He is also caring for his wife Mavis - she has dementia, I can tell you that takes A LOT of his time! See my post(s) on the main thread.
I love the thunk of those doors.
"on a budget", that's what we like to hear! Mr. Leno's not dealing today! LOL
PTS Midnight Blue?!? Paint that!
Thank You Jay for the videos !!!!!!
This is cool. My dad and uncle worked at Bill Yates in the early 70's.
Awesome Porsche! Thanks Jay. 😎👍😎
An absolute beauty of a car. Porsche is my #1 car manufacturer and this particular one is off the scale gorgeous.
"It feels like a new Porsche" that's because it is...
Jay, why not driving it in the canyon road, with the close ratio she is made for it?? Silver color for german cars, red for italian cars...are racing team classic colors and silver + burgundy combo is always a winning combo, no mistakes with that too. The sound of the exhaust system is perfect for this classic 911!
Beautiful car.
What an endorsement... I agree great build, and FWIW DARK BLUE paint to sample with the oxblood leather would look equally as stunning.
-Never really been a Porsche fan but they do have their charm. Thanks Jay for sharing another cool automobile with the rest of us.
It's a bit like a mechanical watch. To most people it's just a watch and a waste of money but for those who understand it is an incredible piece of engineering.

Jay, you are not a young whippersnapper anymore. Make sure you put on that seat belt. Loved the video.
At his age ( Im old but not as old as jay is ) you just dont give a crap anymore. Plus we grew up not wearing seatbelts and drove without them for many years sometimes you just dont feel like wearing them. Its like having to wear a tie all the time, it sometimes gets old. ESP those harness belts .
Young or old or in between a seat belt is always a good idea
@@troynov1965I totally understand all respect here sir
@@troynov1965 Except a tie isn't saving your life. Jay has already had a recent close call with the steam car accident, then a motorcycle accident. He doesn't need to be taking unnecessary risks. It's just laziness or stupidity to say you "don't _feel_ like wearing a seatbelt" because they are just not noticeable most of the time.

Getting rid of the original individual color his dad ordered should be a crime
