This is one of the most informative videos out there about this stuff. So I was interested in getting the Billy with the glass front for collecting manga and now I know it's not going to sag! Also knowing I can fit 2 extra rows is super helpful! Thank you so much!
I've been searching for a couple months for good manga shelves and this was the most informative video I've watched. Keep doing your thing man love the channel.
The great thing about the Kallax (Expedit) shelves that they don’t bow at all. I have 5x5s packed to the brim with omnis, HCs, books, trades, statues etc. And looks as good as when it was first assembled.
i got my own home about 6 years ago, i am about to turn 50 and i never thought i would be able to have my own home but i got an unexpected opportunity and definitely took advantage of it. before that though my whole childhood and teens and twenties and thirties i have always lived in small tight apartments, i have always been crowded and always hated wasted space. i am also 6'5" and my entire life i have hated how your normal cheap book cases you get at places are usually 6" tall, so not only am i taller than the book cases but there is like 2 or 3 feet of wasted space above most book cases and i cannot stand that. so now after all these years and having my own home finally i wanted to get some real book cases that are more than 6 feet tall i want them to go to the damn ceiling. and all i can ever find are crazy expensive book cases from fancy bourgeois furniture stores and they still usually have some wasted space above them. so finally a few weeks ago i discovered the Billy book cases, unfortunately i have yet been able to get any as it seems they are completely out at the distribution centers and stores at the moment and i dont know when they are getting more in. but i sure will be happy to get my books out of the boxes they have been sitting in since i moved like 6 years ago.
Billy for manga looks decent. It'd be even better if they had 3-4 inches less depth so you don't lose all that floor space. I'm still looking for a solid wood solution for my heavy hardcovers. I used Kallax units for a long time but they are too deep (6-8" empty space in depth) and the cube dividers make organizing/adding new books a pain (shifting everything around).
I’ll have to look it up, but I think there is a more shallow shelf that ikea makes that could be better for manga (or movies/games). Similar in depth to that gnedby shelf I have, but larger
I'm so impressed and so jealous. I also want to know how you move when/if you do. That has kept me from moving for the longest time and I only have like 600+ books.
Hey there. Your room divider really works on either side. You have a neat, organized and great library. I just got some white shelves but actually, black shelves look really good. Glad I came cross your vid.
I've been collecting the Marvel Masterworks hardcover series. They are pretty much standard dimension hardcovers. In your estimation, how many rows will the Billy provide for these books?
Hey nice vid man. Question, why do you prefer having your books pushed back against the wall rather than forward in line with the edge of the shelf? Been trying to decide myself.
Flash Cactus multiple reasons: 1, because if the shelves aren’t anchored then it will make them too bring heavy and it can topple forward. 2, I often will put figures or other things on the shelves in front of books, sometimes I just use that space to set unorganized books before I move all of the contents of the shelf around, sometimes I just use it to set a drink while I do live shows. 3, it would take too much time for me to constantly make sure all the books are perfectly lined with the edge of the shelf every time I reorganize or pull out a book to read (I know this because it happens every time with the books on my kallax). It’s just a lot of work for something that doesn’t mean anything to me
Nice collection! Might need to rethink that extender being directly underneath a smoke detector. There should be 350mm in every direction clear of the smoke detector. But at least it’s up in the ceiling and not hidden away because it was beeping.
I bought a book shelf from dollar general, after a month the bottom shelf was torn by the nails which caused the book shelf to fall. Luckily I was there to catch it but I’m definitely going to go buy a billy shelf
My wife has a ton of hardcover picture books. Looking to get some shelves for her collection but I’ve heard that the wider billy bookcase shelves from ikea sag and bend. Do you happen to have that problem with your Billy’s?
Are all these shelves anchored? My collection is still relatively small and I've never had to anchor one before but I am noticing the lean a tad more than usual (Still not worried though).
My problem with Ikea is that it's 2 and a half hours away, I don't have a vehicle that could fit anything even if I wanted to drive there and the shipping is ridiculous. Turns a $120 bookcase into a $545 book case. I can get a much better bookcase from anywhere else for that. There are several things I'd get from them if that wasn't the case.
@@xdcian1304 honestly it has a plot but a lot of the time it feels a bit rushed. In my opinion out of what I read, the best series Are ruby and sapphire. But if you’re looking for something a bit similar but yet different in a lot of way. The yugioh manga is the way to go, I’m talking about the original. It has a deeper storyline than the anime and it’s genuinely great
Hey dude on the big Billy how many screw holes apart are each shelf? As I also have 8 in mine but can't seem to get it to all look the same? Is one shelf a bit bigger then the others ?
I noticed you have the elfen lied manga and ive been hesitant to buy it because its small but really thick. Is it hard to read the manga of elfen lied with it being that thick or is it like reading any other manga?
@@omnibuscollector I know maybe better wall etc. but no matter how old the house is, is simple: get a $10 humidity meter, if humidity goes up 50% should be keep between 45%-%50 RH max with a dehumidifier, I working preserving books, records, and overall things made of paper. You have a great collector, so condition matters ;)
I also use a bunch of Billy. One random thing I notice on mine: Marvel omni shelves sag more than DC omni shelves despite having the same number of books. I'm guessing Marvel uses a thicker paper stock.
The Omnibus Collector hey please send a link to the first bookshelf you point at the one with naruto manga please and if you add shelf’s can you send the link to the shelves with it?
What's up Riley? When I first started collecting Omnies I bought a thin Billy shelf for my Omnies. Your videos are what helped me decide to get a Billy shelf. Now that I collect statues along with Omnies, I think that I'm going to get Kallax shelves because I want away to display my Omnies along with my statues. Great video my dude. Stay safe.
Stumps Manga And Comics I’ve been collecting for close to twenty years now. My job isn’t so glamorous, but my wife and I both work and make a decent living and live in an area with a somewhat lower cost of living.
can't seem to find the extra shelves for the billy only the extenders, IKEA UK doesn't seem to list them on their website :/ [EDIT] i found them!!!! by the way you have a mesmerizing collection i'm going to make it my goal to match your collection :D massive respect from GB
No, there are two types of billy shelves: The wider ones he mostly has (80 cm width), then those smaller ones that are exactly half the width of the wider billies (40 cm width). You can add an extension to either of them, that increases the total height to 237 cm. With the spacing he has between the shelves, with the extension, you can fit 9 rows of comics/manga per bookshelf. Then there are those really small shelves (20 cm width) that are called "Gnedby", where you can put more manga, but they are perfectly sized to hold pop figures. I know all this because I'm building my manga/comics/figures room and I want to utilize all the space I can.
Nice video. I have a 5*5 Expedit (basically the old name for the Kallax), a 5*5 and a 2*4 Kallax: my Expedit is filled to the brim with manga+Dylan Dog, and I mean three rows of stuff in each cube, and I've had it for two decades. The best.
I have never seen anyone with that much Manga. Your collection is bigger than Barnes and nobles.😂

wow, lucky you. my Billy book case shelves would warp over the years under the weight of my books. I had to buy custom shelves.
Where’d you get your custom shelves
Hey there. Your room divider really works on either side. You have a neat, organized and great library. I just got some white shelves but actually, black shelves look really good. Glad I came cross your vid.
Thank you your video really helped me to furnish my room
Impressive! Have you seen the need to anchor them to the wall?
Can Billy’s fit all Omnibuses? Measurements seem to say no.
What measurements? The shelves are adjustable. As long as it’s not taller than six feet it’ll fit.

What should I do if I can afford the Billys but the shipping is 6 times the price of the Billy, does anyone have any ideas?
Can you add one height extention over another? Like, having multiple extenders for the top to reach very high ceilings
The white billy book case are cheaper, but you mention it gets dirty? What do you mean?
Nice collection!
Might need to rethink that extender being directly underneath a smoke detector. There should be 350mm in every direction clear of the smoke detector. But at least it’s up in the ceiling and not hidden away because it was beeping.

Thx you so much

Wonderful setup, I would die for a room devoted to my books but alas I must suffer.
I know I'm really late and you probably won't see this but did you anchor yours to the wall?
Are all these shelves anchored? My collection is still relatively small and I've never had to anchor one before but I am noticing the lean a tad more than usual (Still not worried though).
Will I be able to fit DC Absolute Editions on a Billy Bookshelf?
Are the kallaxs better for omnibuses then the billys?

That's weird, here in the Uk at least, you'd expect to pay at most about £50, and that;s for really big items and a fast delivery option.
Thank you
do the billy shelves have to connect to a wall or can I use them like your kallax as room divider?
don’t have to but it’s safer if it’s against a wall, i heard they can be unstable esp if stacked with heavy books
Could you do a video on the Pokemon manga? I have the first 4 volumes but not sure if I should get more.
Which series?

Great and very informative. Noticed you have Excel Saga there, great show only have a few of the manga though.

strong tip: Add a dehumidifier in that room and silica gel packages around the shelves.
Maybe if I were in an older house with poor climate/humidity control, but these things were taken into consideration when we built the house.

how did you find them? i’m having trouble finding it on ikea uk
did you remove the baseboards so they would be flush with the wall? I'm going to be installing 4 units and trying to plan it out
The shelves have an indentation on the back (best way I can think to describe it) that fits around baseboards.
@@omnibuscollector oh cool. Thanks for the info.
What do you mean by "wide billy" is it just a normal billy with extra shelves?

The BILLY is 11in deep which deeper than needed for most Manga the FINNBY is 9.5in deep, 23 1/2in wide, 70 7/8in Tall

Do they like go down in the middle after a while or does it stay straight the past bookshelf ive had sag down so I was wondering if these do the same?

Great vid. If they sag can't you just put a board in the middle on each self to make a support to stop the sagging.
