Collegium’s recording offers an extensive selection of Poulenc’s sacred choral music with the Gloria as centrepiece. Salve Regina was written in 1941.

Salve, Regina, Mater misericordiae,
Vita, dulcedo et spes nostra, salve.
Ad te clamamus, exsules, filii Evae.
Ad te suspiramus, gementes et flentes,
In hac lacrimarum valle.
Eia ergo, Advocata nostra,
Illos tuos misericordes oculos ad nos converte.
Et Jesum benedictum fructum ventris tui,
Nobis post hoc exsilium ostende,
O clemens, O pia, O dulcis Maria,
O dulcis Virgo Maria.

Hail, holy Queen, Mother of mercy;

John Rutter, English composer and conductor, is associated with choral music throughout the world. His recordings with the Cambridge Singers (the professional chamber choir he set up in 1981) have reached a wide global audience, many of them featuring his own music in definitive versions. Among John’s best-known choral works are Gloria, Requiem, Magnificat, Mass of the Children, and Visions, together with many church anthems, choral songs and Christmas carols.
