It's incredible to think that Faure wrote this when he was just nineteen years old. Just right for unwinding after a hectic day. I never, ever tire of singing it. John Rutter and his Cambridge Singers have managed to make it sound even more beautiful, if that's possible!
Its distant root is Psalm 137: By the waters of Babylon we sat down and wept: when we remembered thee O Sion, recalling the long Jewish exile. (see Wikipedia)
Magnificent. For once: not too fast… Deliberate and rich. Thank you.
I like to browse classical songs, but this made me stop and finish the whole thing, makes you appreciate what music is really about

I want this played at my funeral.
I have chosen this as the entrance music for my recently passed dear Mother's upcoming funeral. 😞
And it sounded so beautiful.
Our Cathedral choir sang this at my mother’s memorial mass in 2017. We sang it in English and it was so moving. The tears were streaming.

.....and yet God may yet exist......BRAVI TUTTI.....from Acapulco!
This is the PERFECT tempo... So many take it abhorrently fast..... Bravo!
I sang this in church choir and it has been a lifelong blessing since. Praise God!
EXACTLY what I think! This is by far the best recording of it I've ever heard.
Fauré wrote it as Andante !!!
@@marcgaretto7712 Yes, walking. Not running.
Andante means walking, not sleeping 😜😅
I had to sing this in choir for A-Level music and it struck me then just what a marvellous composition this is. Thank you for this wonderful version.
As our pastors say from time to time, you didn't have to sing it - you got to sing it. And what a comfort this piece is.
Just gorgeous ☺️ deeply satisfying and spirituality moving.
en écoutant ce cantique je me croit direct au paradis
Hauntingly beautiiful.
Now I know why my Mom loved the Fauré Requiem. ThankYou for this beauty❤
That's awesome. My choir in highschool sang Faure's Requiem made me fall in love with his music.🙏
Absolutely beautiful rendition of a wonderful piece. Bravo Mr. Rutter and the Cambridge Singers

Heavenly. Such a nice restrained version.

Una belleza que nos toca el alma :)

This was in the film "Babe," about the sheep-herding pig
Are you sure? That’s my favourite film and I don’t remember this. I’m sure I couldn’t have missed it. (Best film in the world, btw.)
@@shirleyw8720 Yes, during the Christmas scene
Baa-Ram-Yule
@@parthoroy9141 Thanks for putting me right on that. I have no idea how I missed something so beautiful ❤️
I think you mean the Saint-Saens symphony for organ!
@@philmathieu1017 Yes, that was the "main theme" of the film. But this choral piece by Fauré was briefly featured during the fireside Christmas scene
This music is best for some funeral.
It is from the requiem!
No it isn’t From the requiem
wow
More beautiful it doesn't get.
The Cantique... is NOT from the Faure Requiem. 🙄😖 It was written more than 20 years prior to the Requiem. 🙄😖
Right- if you zoom in, you can see that the title of the album is Faure Requiem and other sacred music.

Such a shame this piece of music wasn't featured in Disney's *Fantasia*
Daringly slow !
