- Hey folks,
About a month ago my phone started ringing and I looked down and saw Matt Knight calling. Well, it turns out that he was inviting me to come down to Mad Katz Outdoors to meet Micka Burkhart and shoot a video of his state record story. Needless to say I instantly accepted the invitation. In this video Micha shares the events leading up to this once in a life time catch, what it was like fighting such a massive fish, and the process of getting it certified. I hope you all enjoy watching this video as much as I enjoyed making it.
I also want to give a big thank you to Micka's wife Amarie. She provide the awesome photos and footage of this fish being caught.
You, sir, are one exceptional human being. Congrats on landing that hog, and congrats for being able to keep that fish alive. That is such a big deal.
Awesome job caring more about the fish more than the record! Glad you got it certified and also was able to recover the fishes health! Hope he lives another 50 years
Bravo sir. Congratulations on your record fish and for showing all generations true sportsmanship. God bless
That man is a true ambassador of our sport. Great interview brother
He really is. It was great hearing how much he cared about the fish over everything else.
I hoped he released it to have more babies that size. Then again a state record who wants to stay on top. Sorry poor catfish and future broken records.
Oh he did release it!!!!! WONDERFUL!!!!! What a great guy!!!!!!
@@jimmyBurnett he did release it. He actually has broken the record 2 times and both fish were released on video and swam away healthy. Micka was very adamant about making sure this happened
@@ryanbortzbluecollarlife HE DID I LOVE IT !!!!!! WHAT A GREAT GUY!!!!!!
Just started watching your videos about 2 weeks ago I've learned a lot about finding fish in just a few videos. Your humble attitude and knowledge of fishing is the best I've seen on UA-cam. Congratulations on the record and the release. Best of luck on your new career!
Thank you for that. I truly appreciate your support.
Nice job. And congratulations my friend just got our state record
Every cat fisherman should watch this video…great job man gettin that fish back…it’s what it’s all about!..congrats!!!
Completely agree!
Congratulations, excellent fish admirable release.
He definitely is a role model for the catfish community.
Yeah I just started watching you a few days ago I stumbled upon your video didn't know you had your own channel yeah I'm glad I did I watched your interview about the record blue you caught and you are a very humble man I ask the lord to bless you and you're family
Congratulations
Once in a lifetime fish for sure. Couldn’t have happened to a better person.
Micka then went on to pull in a 122 lb fish in July, beating his own state record. Insane!
I know! Crazy isn’t it? Couldn’t have happened to a better person though.
What a great dude. A true rep of what an outdoorsman is
He really is!
I absolutely love his channel
What a great guy, very humbling to see the effort he put forth in making sure that fish was released and the concern he had of releasing that fish alive. Great catch Micka and great interview Austin.
Yeah I have a lot of respect for Micka after hearing his story. Appreciate you taking time to watch.
@@nccatfishing you bet brother, always take time to watch your videos bud. Great stuff.

Congrats on record and mad katz getting it done
Couldn’t have happened to a better guy.
Great video production Austin.
Thank you!
Great story and seems like a great guy. Man how would you top it? By doing it again a few months later on camera! Micka is a beast.
Guy is an absolute legend!
True fishing
Yessir!
I just missed the state record channel a month ago, no comparison to this fish btw, but on 10lb mono it took over twenty minutes to get in. It almost spooled me 3 times but it took twelve minutes to revive it enough to swim off. I would have been sick if I couldn't have gotten it revived.
Man a channel cat puts up one of the best fights pound for pound. I bet that was an awesome fight and memory.
@@nccatfishing yeah man, I can't remember ever being so close to spooled, especially not there times. Even though the line felt plenty tight, he was so far out several times that where my line and rod tip were pointing 30 or so feet to the right or left of where would surface. A few times I had to question myself if that was actually my fish hitting the top. Caught a thirteen on the same setup two nights ago in heavy current and thought it was a turtle. Just dragging weight up stream. I haven't had much time to fill the freezer this year so I kept the 13. I usually don't keep them that big or any after June. Had three whole frogs in it's belly. Got a picture of them
@@nccatfishing I love my little all-purpose setups, seems like those are the ones bigger fish like to hit, I think it just presents your baits a little more naturally
@@jeremystanton382 man that's wild. yeah those fish can consume some food. Heard of all kinds of crazy things coming out of a catfish stomach.
@@nccatfishing Haven't found any weights yet but I might have to drag an erie dearie to find some of those
Congratulations good job buddy
Couldn’t have happened to a better person. Was really great to hear how passionate he was about the health of the fish also.
The release is my favorite part of the story.
Yes!
sweet
Yessir!
Good job bud
Thanks for watching!
Nice
Yessir!
Hey what reel was u using on the rod u was using
Just broke his own state record
I know! So crazy and awesome. Hopefully he’ll get to NC soon so I can sit back down with him.
How big where the numbers?
Length and girth?.
He just broke that record again last year. I’m not sure on the first one but his most recent was 122lbs 3oz with a 57.5 inch length and 42.5 inch girth.
