Congrats! Mine are inside now and keep trying to flower. No matter how many buds I cut off it keeps producing more. You have a beautiful plant. I'm so excited for you!
That's exciting! I only hope to have that problem some day 🤗 This was an unrooted cutting 2 years ago - 1/4 of the size so I am very happy it flowered!
I can’t wait to have mine open up! It actually has 4 flowers one big and three little ones that just started forming so I’m super exited since I don’t even know the color it’ll be
I got this plant from a woman down the road, and knew nothing about it. After having it for a while, I fertilized it this spring. It surprised me, and took of running over the pots edge. Soon after, I noticed a huge flower pod poking out, and about 1 week later, BAM!! THIS GIGANTO FLOWER CAME OUT. And...there are two more pods behind it!!! What a great surprise. NOW...HOW do I take a cutting off it? Ty
LOL awesome! You can just twist off a segment, let the 'wound' dry, then pot it up. You can also cut them, but it will take more time to callus and root.
It's awesome, right?! I got a single cutting on eBay with other types. It kind of got buried with the other plants, and one day, I was shocked to see that that single cutting had developed like 8 "fingers"! I found out the name of it and read that one day, it would get a huge flower that smelled liked rotten meat. The weirdo that I am, I said COOOOL!!! So I had been waiting and waiting and finally, mine bloomed about 3 weeks ago. It was surrounded by flies and had tiny white bugs all in it, maggots? idk. But I took a whiff, and no smell. I was disappointed. But then it got another bud and when it bloomed, I thought ehh, it probably won't smell either. So with no care at all, I swatted the flies away, got real close, and took a deep sniff.....UUUGGGHHHHHH!!!!! LOL! I thought I was gonna pass out! But I was very happy to smell that nasty rotten meat smell. Anyhow. It's a cool plant that I'm glad to have! Just thought I'd share.
I have a stapelia gigantea too!😊👌mine has made a lot of growth this year and I even propagated and grew another, but no flowers yet as this year has had some tough weather for growing. The winter here is too cold for it, so I uproot them and wrap them in newspaper and keep them over winter in a cool dark place. They get replanted in spring and start growing again!😁
Wooooa! What an incredible momemt!! I thought the flower was going to be beautifil, and an average small. When you showed the flower, HOLY MOLEY! 😲😲😲😲 ABSOLUTELY BEAUTIFUL!!! Thank You Ma'am for sharing this with us!!! Iowa 😁
Sucs For You! So if it's stinks that bad what do you do do you keep it far away ? It's beautiful but I am wondering how you deal with the smell .. and let me ask dies Yu our hands smell now ?

My mom’s just bloomed today. Hence why I’m here so I can learn more about it. 😊

I am picking one of these up today and it has a bud on it. Could not be more excited! Thanks for sharing!
Nice!!
Wow beautiful thanks for sharing
Fascinating plant.. I just love how it smells specifically like something rotten to attract flies that help to pollinate it.

Bet you never thought you'd say you were 'happy to smell that nasty rotten meat smell' 😂
I’m late but flies apparently polluniate them that’s probably why :))

Iowa 😁
My pleasure! It is blooming more than ever this year - so wild!
cute video!
It's not too stinky hopefully, I got a cutting today as a free sample.
I've heard some aren't as 'fragrant' as others... I just keep mine down wind lol!
gorgeous!! :)
I love this flower, problem is it atraks many flies
in which season does it bloom?😊
I've had it bloom at different times of the year but usually before it gets too hot and before it gets too cold :)
I have a plant like this indoors but it hasn't flowered, I'm afraid to over water it, can you let me know how often you water it?
Can you put it outside? I water weekly but that's probably too much for indoors and they need lot of light to flower.
Incrível.
Maravilhosa!
That's wild! I'm willing to wait 2 years for a bloom like that. What does the smell equate to?
Well worth the wait! And it smells like rotting fish :/
Sucs For You! So if it's stinks that bad what do you do do you keep it far away ? It's beautiful but I am wondering how you deal with the smell .. and let me ask dies Yu our hands smell now ?
Cvijet je predivan😍! Ali izraz tvoga lica je neprocjenjiv🤦🏼♀️😂😂😂😂😂😂😂
Vrijedilo je to lol!
I want one!!! 😩
Is this plant easy to put cuttings in soil to get roots?
Yep! This was from a cutting - took 2 years to flower though
So..is this a tropical plant? Can it live indoors?
It's a desert native but it could probably live indoors w/ enough light :)
What do you recommend for fertilizer?
This is what I use - low Nitrogen is what you're looking for (the first # 2-7-7) amzn.to/3744EF3
Wow, gorgeous! Glad we can’t smell it tho,😂
It's getting worse!
Sucs For You! Do they seriously stink ?
@@kimjerue6599 Look up carrion flowers 😂Nothin' good about the smell!

Tiger thinks, “ if it isn’t food…don’t bother me.” That is one very large flower. Not what I would expect from that plant.
So you've met Tiger? 😂 And yes - the flower is a beast! A stinky beautiful beast!
@@SucsForYou Haven’t met Tiger but have a couple of my own just like that. 😂
Harika
that stapelia kept indoor without direct sun and still alive ?
No it's outdoors, facing east :)
Is the flower really opens for 1 day only? Mine opened then wilted the next day.
I'm not sure! Hopefully it will last a bit longer since it's not hot here :)
@@SucsForYou Still flowering? 🌸
@@gartmorn Yes! 3rd day! But the petals are all folded back :)
@@SucsForYou Luckily we can't experience the aroma! 🤣
@@gartmorn The smell has faded to next to nothing thankfully lol!!
Is its flower harmful?
No - just stinky 😅
I offer a cutting of this plant to my mom, but she refused, she is afraid of the flower.
is this a carnivorous plant? is that what the hairs & stink is for?
Not carnivorous but a carrion flower! Attracts stank-lovin' pollinators like flies 🙏
Smells sour like funky
