Check out my reaction to Bojack Horseman: • DOCTOR REACTS TO BOJAC...
It's a Sin reviews: • DOCTOR REACTS TO IT'S ...
I hope you like this doctor reacts video! I'm checking out one of the songs from Crazy Ex Girlfriend called "Antidepressants Are So Not a Big Deal" and I LOVED IT. It's beautifully camp and incredibly accurate. I just wish I had rhythm then maybe I could take some pointers for my consultations.
I've lost count of how many people have asked me to watch Crazy Ex Girlfriend and I thought this was a good starting point, but I'm hoping to check out some full episodes soon. The thing I loved most about this song was calling our pill shaming which is unfortunately all too common. Antidepressants are safe and effective, and for some, life saving. Nobody should feel shamed for using medications as a tool to treat mental illness, anymore than taking an ACE inhibitor for high blood pressure.
I hope you liked it and I hope you learned something. Let me know if you've had experiences of people pill shaming because I want to understand why people do it more so we can tackle what is just harmful nonsense.

Rachel Bloom (co-creator and star) specifically wrote this song because she felt such shame when she first started anti-depressants in real life.
I think so many people still do. There's so horrible trolling on twitter that happens around the use of antidepressants and antipsychotics too so we need to elevate ourselves above this nonsense.
I think it can be compounded by well meaning people sharing their negative experiences to warn people but like any meds it's not one size fits all and can involve a lot of trial and error.
I actually listened to this song almost constantly on repeat after I was prescribed antidepressants to combat that feeling of shame and the intrusive thoughts about how I needed to take a drug to function as a human being. That destruction of that isolated feeling made it such an easier pill to swallow, if you’ll pardon the pun. Making it feel easier made me really commit to it and now I’m even talking to my doctor about the possibility of coming off of them in future.
@@DoctorElliottCarthy I started taking Methylphenidate as an adult when I was diagnosed with ADHD - it turned out to be a life changer. Most of my problems with mood swings, memory issues and concentration performance disappeared. Now, my parents keep shaming me about it because they feel like there's no point in taking a pill a whole life just "to feel a little calmer".
This show and Bojack Horseman really helped me ask for antidepressants when all else failed
My crazy ex girlfriend has a ton of good mental health situations to react to. And it’s overall just a fun show to watch that’s well made and written.
*Crazy Ex Girlfriend.
Crazy Ex Girlfriend is amazing.
There isn't a possessive " MY" to the title :)
@@folklore.evermore3 I thought they were talking about their actual ex-girlfriend.
@@VicenteTorresAliasVits same
When Rebecca finally gets her tap shoes (aka a prescription for anti-depressants) she's finally able to take part in the dance number. Such a nice metaphor for someone who is depressed finally getting treatment and able to join in on all the other "well adjusted" (or just adequately medicated) people in the world :)
Fun fact about all the musical numbers in Crazy Ex-Girlfriend: THEY'RE JUSTIFIED IN UNIVERSE (In two different ways!!). They're all just Rebecca having dissociative episodes; so many of them are parodies of classic broadway and movie musicals because the character grew up loving broadway. (I'm not even going to spoil the second justification from the finale because you have to see it to truly grasp how brilliantly they wrapped up the show).
Another thing I love about this show is the casual inclusiveness - the "my husband died" guy from this song doesn't appear anywhere else in the show, there's no Major Plotline centered around his sexuality, he just exists because this is a world in which queer people exist. The show also has several major characters who fall under the LGBTQ+ umbrella and does a really good job at showing them as complete, three-dimensional people who are defined by far more than just their LGBTQ+ status.
(That said, if you do want a Crazy Ex-Girlfriend song that's very LGBTQ+ focused, I recommend "Gettin' Bi")
Getting Bi is a legit jam that I listen to often in my car!
I don't recall them ever having a trans character but I could be wrong. I think there was someone at the Burning Man-type festival I forget the name of who may have been trans but I'm not sure
@@Jupiterninja95 I always read AJ as non-binary but I don't think that's ever anything more than subtext--iirc you're right that there aren't any explicitly trans characters.
Also him specifically watching Christian tv sounds like a quick reference to emotional self-harm, considering the flavour of Christianity usually running it.
I'm still salty that Darryl and WhiJo didn't end up together, even though it makes sense.
I loved this show. It was cringey at first, but that’s by design. It covers a lot of interesting topics and some of the songs are super catchy. You really should watch it. I don’t wanna spoil anything by talking about later stuff, but i like how it portrayed Rebecca from a psych standpoint.
I saw "A Boy Band Made of Four Joshes" on youtube and thought it was cute.
When I saw it in context, it made me choke up.
I agree. I’m a mental health nurse. Again not to spoil, but the diagnosis given to Rebecca was dealt with in a respectful way, even though it is often stigmatised elsewhere
@@raindropsonroses3919 Absolutely! I'm an outpatient psychiatrist and have waaay more Rebecca-like lovable patients with *that diagnosis* than I do difficult ones. I love working with them! I'm grateful to this show for a positive portrayal.
@@kristensadana8097 love this! Psychiatry is a difficult job, good for you! 😊
@@auldthymerfor me, there's a few songs that hit different on rewatching. Her self-loathing song (You Ruined Everything, You .... ....) made me tear up when I heard it after having to drop out of my bsn program and stay an LPN another 1-2 years
Please keep watching this, it's great! The song "My diagnosis" for example!
I second that! The show is great. Review "my diagnosis"
I have a special love for the lyric "They told me I was things that I wasn't/Sure! I like penises, but who doesn't?"
Yes! “My Diagnosis”, “You Stupid Butch” and “The Darkness” are so good
I'll 100% concur with My Diagnosis as being the best darn thing. I got my diagnosis around the time that episode aired and it was so god damn comforting. Same sort of goes for The Darkness.
That song inspired me to actually seek treatment for mental health. The fact I could have an explanation to why my mind worked the way it did sounded so fantastic. And a couple years in now, I have two. GAD and ADHD. This show literally changed my life.
This show is great. I suggest 'You stupid b*tch', 'The Darkness', and 'A diagnosis' songs. The shows gets really dark in some episodes, but it is refreshing in the ways it portrayed mental health struggles.
Also "The end of the movie" :D
Omg "you stupid bitch" is so good I always start singing it when I start getting too critical of myself because it's like a funny friendly reminder of how much we demand of ourselves, unrealistic standards etc
@@kerollaynemoreira7536 It doesn't work with me unfortunately. I just end up agreeing with the song.
That episode in the airplane... hit hard
ah, lest we forget "i'm not sad, you're sad"
This show taught me and my wife to see mental health without shame. We both got better diagnosis later as a result
This is one of the best shows that has ever been on TV and I still miss it terribly. It handles so many issues so well (e.g., women's health), but especially mental health.
Never clicked so fast! This show is SO GOOD. You should totally watch some full episodes (there’s plenty of good ones, but even starting with the pilot has so many mental health issues to focus on), but here are also a bunch of great songs. Greg’s Drinking Song, A Diagnosis, Tell Me I’M Okay, The Darkness, I’m Not Sad You’re Sad, and We’ll Never Have Problems Again are all great!
Thank you for making so many suggestions !!!!! I’ve watched this show probably 13 times and I’m excited to see more of it on this channel hopefully!!!3!:!:)3$3$!33’nsis
I also love Thought Bubbles, it's such a perfect example of intrusive thoughts.
‘This Session is Going to Be Different’ and ‘You Stupid Bitch’ are really good as well
@@court9311 YES! I can’t believe I forgot “You Stupid Bitch”! And you’re right, “This Session” would be great for him to react to!
@UC4GCjDEtXSC_EKNIm3SbroA Sometimes when I’m in a self-loathey mood I play You Stupid Bitch on repeat and sing along. Oddly enough, it makes me feel better, because it just perfectly encapsulates the negative self-talk that my brain is doing and puts it in perspective.
If you're looking for a full episode to react to -- season 3, episode 6, "Josh Is Irrelevant." is all about the main character receiving her mental health diagnosis, and there's a song about it :D
it's one of my favorite episodes. So great in many ways
You really should watch this whole series. People were mad at the "Crazy" label at first but as the show goes on you realize how seriously it takes mental health and explores the subject....also the songs just tend to be bangers
As a mental health professional, you owe it to yourself to watch the video for "This Session Is Going to Be Different." Not even necessarily as a reaction video, but just as a treat for yourself. It's a torch song about the trials and travails of having a patient with BPD.
This show is one of my favorites! It helped me and even today it helps me with the difficulties of dealing with my mental health.
All characters are well developed, taking into account mental health and social factors with the playful lens of the musical to express the most important things. There's a song, "The Darkness" that represents a relapse episode and it's amazing.
I think you would like the show in general, but if not for the reactions (which I would love to watch!!). The dynamics with her mother, with Paula, the way Rebecca deals with her love life, Paula herself, Greg's arc... Anyway, and all the other characters I don't want to name so as not to spoil the surprise hahaha
Can't wait to watch more of it
I really agree! Such a great and relevant show
The song "You Stupid Bitch" hit home for me -- I still call myself names sometimes.
To see somebody else admit that they do it too made me feel like I might be okay.
@@auldthymer yesss!!! All the awful negative self talk was handled super honestly and it was comforting to see such a nasty pattern coming to light. That feeling of "I'm not alone, my brain is fucked up, this is something I need to work on and take it seriously, but maybe a lot of other people are also on the same pathway and that makes it better somehow".
@@auldthymer my favourite line in that is the casually interjected “and lose some weight”. Because of course even if I’m berating myself over something completely disconnected from my weight, I find a way to sneak that in there.
It's great that you mention both pill-shaming and the need for psychological services as well as medical, since that's the context of the song!
Rebecca has been misdiagnosed and over-medicated most her life. She wants to approach her mental health without medication out of fear from past experiences, thinking only one treatment will be enough. Her therapist advices her to do both, and this song shows that medication is healthy, normal, and helpful!
I love this show! Each of the characters is nuanced and all have their faults, but no one is a 'bad guy'. You still want them all to succeed and grow! It covers a wide range of topics- LBGTQ+, mental health, addiction and touches on ACEs as well. Also the music is great and hilarious!! Fantastic video as always!
ACEs as in ace (asexual) or something else? Haha
When do they talk about aces? I'm ace and this is one of my favorite shows of all time and I don't remember that!
@@joyfulgirl40018 Maybe she means on the song "Without love"? all I remember about ACEs in the show is the line "Is an asexual utopia".
Some of it is fun, but many of the characters are so unlikable that it's a struggle to watch the show. The songs are mostly good, though
I think they meant ACE as in Adverse Childhood Experiences, not ace as in asexual.
Please please please do more crazy ex-girlfriend songs and mental health episodes; they truly are well researched, amusing to watch, and it’d be great to get an actual physician’s look on them. In other words... PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE
That's kinda funny. My dog is on fluoxetine because he has severe seperation anxiety triggered by construction workers nearby which likely reminds him of my abusive ex and our fights and him physically harming us. How did the show get into my home?
Sounds like you are a very caring owner. Hope you both are safer and feeling happier now! ❤️
so so glad you two are better! keep doing good
Your poor pup! Hope you guys just go from strength to strength now!
As a vet I can confirm - we definitely use antidepressants. We actually use mirtazapine all of the time, but mostly because of its side effect, we use it A LOT as an appetite stimulator in dogs and cats.
I freaking love the show "Crazy Ex-Girlfriend". I'm so glad you're covering it.
this song always makes me cry when she gets the tap shoes, because she's finally able to participate in the dancing number that's been happening around her for years (read: function normally in society). seriously, watch this whole show, it's amazing.
This show has soooo many mental health scenes, I mean.. the whole plot is around the protagonist's mental health and how nuanced a "crazy" ex girlfriend's life can be. I would implore you react to more! Musical numbers say a whole awful lot, but so does the series, I discussed this show with my therapist so often she ended up watching it :D
What did your therapist think about the show?
@@belenpen7072 she liked it, we were able to discuss the Becks/Paula relationship, the one thing she did mention was that Rebecca’s family history would probably end in a very diff reality than the “cute” “””crazy””” we get to meet on the series, probably heavier
I look forward to your reactions to this shows depiction of BPD
This show inspired me to pursue a psychology degree. Best decision I've ever made
I love this show, I rewatched it multiple times in the past.
Same here
Same. I also bought a prop from The Math of Love Quadrangles when Donna Lynne Champlin did a charity auction.
just a fun fact: this performance won best song and best coreography at the emmys
As someone who does some work in dog training, particularly with reactive or anxious dogs, we definitely suggest come clients talk to their vets about putting their dogs on anxiety meds as a tool to help lower their anxiety so that we can better work on their triggers. Many, my dog included, are on fluoxetine and I know some who also had their veterinary behaviorist put their dogs on clonidine. Many also use trazedone for special circumstances like fireworks or a really stressful temporary situation.
This show is one of my favourites! The main character is diagnosed with Borderline Personality Disorder. And I swear to God, it's such an accurate portrayal of the disorder. You should watch more of its episodes and react to them.
I only watched the beginning of 1st season of Crazy Ex-Girlfriend, but I remember liking it... maybe I should try to run down the show and watch the whole thing, looks great, I loved that song!
It's on Netflix in the US at least.
Please do that, the show gets even better in later season. The show was planned to have 4 seasons and each season it's like a stage of Rebecca's life so you can tell it well written,
Definitely keep watching! It is a masterpiece where each season builds on the last and ends up with really amazing character arcs that get really fleshed out by the end. The final seasons look a bit more into the mental health side of things in a way I've rarely seen done before, but also in a way that benefitted from the patient and more lighthearted buildup in early seasons.
Yay! I'm so glad you watched this song, one of my favorite numbers. And I also sing this when I go to the pharmacy. Crazy Ex-Girlfriend is one of the shows that portrays mental health in a non-stigmatizing way. I hope this'll get you into it, it's so good.
Edit: I also didn't know dogs can be prescribed antidepressants. I thought it was just a joke to show how antidepressants can help, from a cute dog who tells it like it is
Dogs and cats both can be on them, and they’re the same ones humans take - just dosed proportional to their body weight. It’s actually really common to get them from the same pharmacist human meds come from, as it’s often cheaper.
My dog takes fluoxetine
Thank you.
I'll be honest- I've struggled with depression since I was 13 and this song was one of the major things that finally got me to ask my GP about medication
Thanks for this! It's not uncommon in my practice to hear patients say that they don't want the "crutch" of medication, or feeling that the suggestion of psychopharmacology means that they have "failed" in talk therapy. I have used messages about medication being a tool or a strategy, not a failing, but interested how you have approached it as well.
I often use a physical health analogy that just because we're recommending a med for high blood pressure to help you live longer, doesn't mean we stop looking at additional measures like stopping smoking, modifying diet, increasing alcohol etc. It's not one or the other.
Yay finally! I really hope you get into this show and react to episodes in some future videos. A lot of people have pointed out the song "Diagnosis"; I'd also add the episode "I Never Want to See Josh Again" from season 3. It's pretty emotionally intense, definitely not typical for the rest of the show, but arguably also one of the most interesting ones in terms of a mental health discussion.
I would love you to review the full episode "Josh is Irrelevant" 3x6 of Crazy Ex-Girlfriend! It's when she actually gets diagnosed and doesn't like her diagnosis (due to negative stereotypes) and has to come to terms with it, I think you'd find it very interesting.
Fun fact: this song won an emmy. This show is sooo god!
Work in a pharmacy, the amount of fluoxetine we've dispensed to dogs and cats is a lot more than expected
I know a kitty on some kind of antidepressant to help her anxiety and compulsive cleaning (she licked off her fur).
Crazy ex girlfriend is one of my favorite shows of all time because of how it portrays mental illness. I have depression and ptsd and I really relate to a lot of Rebecca’s struggles, especially the shame of taking antidepressants. But this show helped a bit with the shame, and hearing my medication (citalopram) listed made me cheer!
Crazy ex-girlfriend is one of the all time favourite show I ever watched!🥰 i wish there were a 1000 more. It made me feel so valued and seen. Not only does it talk about the situations women face all the time but also abt mental illness and has an inclusive cast. Plus it does it in such a fun and interesting way. Usually hate musical shows I find the dreadfully boring but this song's are so smart, catchy and fun!
I would love to see you analize more content from Crazy ex-gf!
i've been rewatching it recently for like the 10th time! i hope you love it! as someone diagnosed with bpd, i think it's one of the most accurate representations of it that i've seen. also, i took sertraline for years, and it came in doses of 25 mg. it was the brand zoloft so i'm not sure if it's specific to them!
you might wanna add a spoiler alert lol
I think the dancing shoes in the bottle of antidepressant are meant to show the power art can have on your wellbeing. In the show, step by step, Rebecca realises how much musical theater makes her feel good. It is packed with broadway references ; she imagines her life as a musical and loves performing. It is such a great show on so many levels :)
When I got diagnosed with ADHD this summer being 43 years old I just shared the song Diagnosis with my friends. Knowing something is wrong but not knowing what was quite hard and the song actually represents it pretty well!
Show is very relatable and accurate with a lot of mental illness stuff. I actually couldn’t watch it the first time I tried because the main character hit too close to home and I still wanted to be mad at someone instead of humanizing them. Came back to it later and I think it’s really fun and positive.
I’ve been dealing with depression for almost half my life and this show made me not feel embarrassed about it. It’s truly a great show
When I watched the first episode premiere, I was hooked. The show helped me with my own mental health recovery and understand my mom's BPD better. The overall focus of the show is on healing and growing, and it's so inspiring! One of my favorite shows of all time. I shared this song with my therapist and they loved it, too!
Crazy Ex-Girlfriend is such a good show!
Do "A Diagnosis" next 💛
And, yes, watch the whole show, it's really good and tackles issues like mental health in great ways.
crazy ex is such an amazing show - both hilarious and so informative and well written regarding mental health.
hoping you'll do more reactions to crazy ex! Maybe the episode where Rebecca gets her diagnosis in season 3 or maybe even some later eps in the last season where she's trying to cope and live with bpd, it's pretty interesting!
this entire show is the best show in the world when it comes to humor, mental health issues, and inclusivity/human rights discussions
Yeah I remember when I got on antidepressants. It was wild how I went from spending every moment with suicidal ideation, to not thinking about it at all in the span of two weeks. Didn't even realize until my doctor asked during our check up.
So glad you reacted to my favorite show! I know you were only half kidding with your remarks about the characters breaking into song. But I think it is important to understand that Rebecca is a musical theater fan and her way of coping is to imagine scenes in her life as songs, sometimes big production numbers. So, this is all in her head!
This show was such a pillar of strength for me during some of the hardest years in my life... It means the world to me, specially this song (Diagnosis, and The Darkness are the other two which just hit me every time!). I love watching professionals react to it! I feel like CXGF didn't have the recognition it deserved when it was on, and I love watching new people discover it and talk about it! I hope you do watch it in full and react to it; if you do, count me in as a new subscriber for sure!!
I am absolutely thrilled with the prospect of you reviewing episodes of one of my favorite shows, Crazy Ex-Girlfriend. Particularly, if you don’t want the whole show with backstory, I think you should consider some episodes in season 3, when we really get to see the connection to Rebecca’s action/reactions and how that connects with her diagnosis!
I literally did a little happy dance watching you smile at the supportive message of the song. Brightened my day!
This show is soul food for me to calm anxiety: feeling hopefull and so much less alone. It also helped me empathize with, rather than fear, people with certain disorders (avoiding spoilers here).
4:49 (vet student here) Yes we do!! it's very common to use fluoxetine, paroxetine, clomipramine and sertraline (and a bunch more) in vet medicine. Most often they're used for behavioural problems like separation anxiety, aggression, or stress because of new animals/owners/children. We even get animals that won't stop itching/licking/biting themselves (due to stress) and it can be a very helpful buffer to prevent them hurting themselves while we work out why they've been so distressed. We use the exact same drugs, just different doses
I had to pause at the dog part because my rescue dog was on Lovan for severe anxiety and depression. It helped take the edge of her sadness and stress and let her just be a dog more easily!
Also as someone who is on 400mg of Sertraline and routinely get interrogated by doctors and pharmacists about it I absolutely love Crazy Ex Girlfriend for their depictions of mental health!
I've actually put off picking up my medication and then this shows up! Timing! Bruh these unnecessary battles cos of social stigma.
Thanks for the encouragement doc 💕
I'm a social worker, and I showed a couple of clients this song when they were considering a psychiatric evaluation.
If you did a reaction to this whole show, I'd be glued to every video! This is one of my favorite shows ever, and I really like how it deals with mental illness. The songs are how the main character processes her world, so some aspects may be her exaggerated interpretation of thing (such as her therapist saying "everyone" is on antidepressants).
You made me so so happy with this video, cxgf is my number 1 comfort show and it has lots and lots of awesome mental health related content, I hope you will react to more scenes/songs from this show (my diagnosis would be one I suggest) THANK YOU FOR THIS
Been watching crazy ex-girlfriend for years and now that I've started antidepressants I can't help but sing this everyday I go to take my meds.
The tap dancing is because it is parody of la la land and because Rebecca bunch (the main character) is a massive theatre nerd.
The first season of crazy ex girlfriend is very much a feminist satire of romantic comedies. As well as setting you up for their is a deeper reason for her actions than just a bonkers rom com. The other 3 seasons talk much more about her mental health journey. As Rebecca Bunch becomes more self aware, you get more side characters stories. As her relationship with other characters becomes stronger, their storylines become stronger.
I also like how out of the romantic relationships in the show the non heteronormative ones are the strongest.
I'm on Vortioxetine currently and it's the first one I've been on that the effects didn't gradually decrease. How he described antidepressants is really accurate. It clears away enough of the fog so that you can take action to help your mental health.
my favorite shoooowwwww!!! you'd really have to watch the whole thing to fully understand rebecca's mental health journey but it's so worth it
Sertraline is super common in the UK tbh, I think it's most GPs go to. most of my friends and family have been on it at some point. nice shout out to mirtazapine also, that's mine, which mostly helps because I have sleep issues with depression and the extra hours it gives me make me feel 50 million times better. good song, good video, 10/10
One of my favorite shows. The lead character's disorder doesn't make her a villain or a victim (although there are times when she feels like both of those things), just somebody with an illness that makes her life more difficult. As a PwBPD myself, I really appreciated that. Obvs there's some exaggeration for dramatic and comedic purposes, but it's not sensationalized in the way so much media treats mental illness.
Just discovered your channel and I can't stop watching! You have such empathy and remind my of my current psychiatrist (who's a gem as well). Thank you for all you do and can't wait to see your next video!
Please I need more of you reacting to Crazy Ex-Girlfriend, this was amazing to watch!!!
I LOVE YOU SO MUCH FOR REACTING TO THIS!!! This show is so amazing! You are so amazing!
Love this show, love your take on the song/message and love your reactions to the humor in the song, too. I’m really glad this video came up in my feed. Thanks for making it!
Imagine my joy when I see one of my fav psych analysis doctors analyzing a show I love! Thank you for being you!
The episode "My Diagnoses" would be a great one to react to
I would love to see you react to the episode "Josh is Irrelevant" season 3 episode 6 - at least the Rebecca scenes. It deals with Rebecca's diagnosis and reaction to it. Loved the video!
I love this show. I've been waiting for more doctors to react to it so I was super excited to see this video in my recommended.
Something that's also really cool about the antidepressants song is that, as it's established, the songs are inside rebecca's head, so all this information would have to be things she knows, and it fits perfectly with her character, because she totally would go on a "research deep dive" to find out EVERYTHING about antidepressants
First of all, this doc is adorable! Secondly, I love how surprised he is at the accuracy of the information in this song. I hope he does more CEG
I'm obsessed with this show. It led me to this channel. Great job!
You could react to Rebecca's suicide attempt. The episode before shows her pushing away her friends and when they try to support her she turns on them and lashes out. She runs away from her responsibilities to her mom who has always been toxic. And her mom finds out she's been contemplating suicide. She usually blows Rebecca off and calls her suicide attempts in the past "stunts for attention" but this times she's genuinely worried about her daughter and starts drugging her with antidepressants without Rebecca's knowledge
Though I've supported loved ones in the validity of taking antidepressants, I'd still held on to shame around taking them myself. I very much felt like I'd failed, and didn't allow myself to reach out for that type of help before years of falling short and finally admit that I needed chemical help as well.
As I walked from the doctors to the pharmacist, tears running down my eyes from the shame, I listened to this song on repeat. It really helped me through the anxiety and self loathing. I'd gotten to a point of not seeing a future, and the antidepressants have helped me get my hope back. I really appreciate it, and I appreciate the support the song gave me in those moments.
Thank you for your reaction, and for recognizing the value of it
I was prescribed Mirtazapine as a teenager and it made me feel like I couldn't stay awake in the mornings, I hated it and stopped taking it after two weeks. Recently I was in hospital and was given a sleep medication and the second after taking it, I really freaked out because I was scared that I would't be able to wake up fully. So, I realized that my bad experience with Mirtazapine has stayed with me for all these years. Anyway, this has nothing to do with the video, I was just reminded of it when I heard you say the name of that particular antidepressant.
the song 'a diagnosis' is also really good, its a criticism of the idea of "getting a diagnosis will instantly solve all my problems"
Ahhh, this is super awesome!!! I’d absolutely love to see you react to more Crazy Ex-Girlfriend! Your perspective is super fascinating!
This is my new comfort song since I started hydroxyzine for anxiety 😊
The creator (and main actress in the show) Rachel Bloom has openly talked about her mental health struggles so it's no surprise it's so accurate!
I'm so happy you're reacting to her show man this tv series is so underrated!!!
Probably one of my top three favorite shows! Can't wait to see a full episode reaction :)
The fact that Dr Elliott's favourite antidepressant is sertraline, which is the one I take, makes me strangely happy for some reason
Veterinary medicine and animal behavior has gotten better over the years, but they definitely utilize meds to help with anxiety and behavioral issues in our pets. Working at animal hospitals, I’ve seen dogs and cats get prescriptions for fluoxetine (both human and vet specific one called reconcile), clonidine, trazodone, gabapentin, alprazolam, depending on the pet (situational vs all the time anxiety). It’s a lot like human mental health when more extreme cases benefit from a combination of working with a behaviorist (especially a veterinary behaviorist) and medications. We’ve gotten so much better than years ago when the most common medicines used were just sedatives vs meds that had anti-anxiety properties. Integration of these meds also help improve fear free tactics and allow us to avoid highly stressful situations in the vet office that can worsens things like fear aggression over time if not properly addressed.
One of my favourite shows that deals with mental health in a completely surreal yet realistic way! Definitely need more of these reactions
one of my favourite shows to date. thank you for doing this video 💜
Great video! I loved your informative commentary and I'm a big fan of Crazy Ex Girlfriend so it's great to know they'd really done the research on this song 😍
Honestly I played this song over and over when I got prescribed antidepressants to help make me feel better and it worked!
Such an amazing show ❤
I've started watching it when the first season was still on and loved it from the first minute on... I was diagnosed with BPD a couple of months before Rebecca, so it was amazing seeing this in a show...
I could praise every single part of the show, it's just so we'll done! Obviously is my favorite series ever ever made
I work at a vet clinic, I can tell you we have several patients currently on fluoxetine.
watching this again during mental health awareness month ! this show, Bojack and maybe even Euphoria (s1 & s2e05), may be my favorites when it comes to portraying mental illness. love hearing you talk about it in depth as well. thank you!
Thank you!!!!
Love this show, and I think you would too! Lots of great material to respond to!
ive had people shame me for taking anti-depressants saying things like "I would never take those, id just learn how to function on my own" like cool, thanks, but I have a melt down trying to go outside without them and ive been on a waiting list for counselling for months so Id rather actually get to my lectures on time (or at all) instead of being stuck inside for weeks because "getting myself through it without help is so much better"
They're a useful tool for many people. Be proud of recognising when you need help.
Would love to hear your take on the song "diagnosis" from this show.
This show is wild! Love it. Would love to see more reactions!!
Yay, Crazy xgf!! You're my favorite Doctor in UA-cam, you always explain things with such clarity and gentleness, and are so entertaining yet so underrated, just like Cxgf, one of my favorite shows ever. That show was so, so good, but had very low ratings.
It's such a beautiful show, with very diverse characters, all well constructed and developed, and it was so refreshing and effective in the way it portrayed mental health, LGBT themes and adult life in general. Also the songs are AMAZING!!
I would love to see you react to more songs, or episodes.
My English is not the best, but I hope I made sense.
I really wish I could see someone like you. I have Borderline Personality Disorder and chronic depression. I have been on more medications than I have didgets over the last 15 years and none have helped except Diazapam which they won't let me have for extended periods of time. As i'm sure you are aware the UK has a huge issue with this. I see/talk to my psychiatrist once every 6 months for a 5min phone call where 50% of that is me explaining whats wrong with me because they haven't read my notes and the other 50% is them typing and asking me what meds I have taken. Then they throw another one at me and say they will talk to me in 6 months. Been like this since I was 16 and I am worse now than ever, its pretty soul destroying. Sorry if thats a bit of an overshare but honestly I'm so fed up of bottling up about mental health that sometimes you just need to say something.
Honestly this show and specially this song helped me a lot, one week before i watched this episode my Psychologist recommend me a psychiatrist to start taking meds, I was so scared, my doctor was very nice and told me that it will help me with my anxiety but I was so sad cuz I had a lot of prejudice against meds. I saw this and I cried so much, I did an appointment the next day. I everyone says that I’m better than ever. I’m so grateful for this show
