one of my favourite things about this show is realistic aspect of it. like how Rebecca isn't wearing makeup in jail, how they aren't all white and skinny, it just makes me feel safe. y'know?
even for the characters who are more 'hollywood' attractive like whijo or Nathaniel it goes out of its way to establish that it takes them a lot effort to look that way
I love this too - She's SO BEAUTIFUL but they show that it takes a lot of work for her to look that way. I love that she's not always wearing a bra, and can look dumpy when she feels like crap just like the rest of us.
@@lucasandreboaventura9820Well no, if they all realize it, that can't be a product of Rebecca's head because obviously the point of them all seeing each other is that they've achieved an awareness that Rebecca hasn't.
Omg taking the "I'm the only one feeling this thing" ballad and completely flipping it on its head in such a funny and tragic way is just ... magical. And the awareness of its musical construction. The FUCKING melisma. I LOVE THIS SHOW SO MUCH I CAN'T WAIT FOR THE FIRST EPISODE TOMORROW.

I always felt that White Josh represents the people that resist Rebecca’s charm. Hector is not her BFF but he just rolls with it. White Josh actually asked what everyone sees in Rebecca.
1:45 "And you're next to someone who's fast asleep" and the fact that the three of them are next to someone who's fast asleep. This show is just genius and so attentive to details.
This is EXACTLY what I needed right now! Just cracked up laughing at myself for feeling lonely and misunderstood...as one of probably millions of overbooked busy students. Oh Rachel, you've done it again!!!
If I said that this song actually kept me away from committing suicide it wouldn't be enough. It also gives you a perspective and some notion of humility that one should feel. Thank you so much.
this song does so much for me when I'm sad! I like to imagine ANYONE of the crazy exgirlfriend-fans around the word are singing with me. It makes me feel a lot better.
Anonymous Anonymous I’ve actually dealt with it for years but unsurprisingly the fall and winter seasons make it that much harder lol! Best of luck to you.
Anonymous Anonymous You're really cool talking shit on the internet to people you know nothing about. If you are so depressed maybe leave your house and don't call strangers a bitch on a UA-cam comment.
We are always complaining that we are alone and no one understands us but never try to reach out to others who are in the same problem. "No one else is singing my song" is an ironic representation of it.
I was depressed for more than 30 years and this song, this song, captures that feeling so well. Tears, every time I watch this video. Tears at how well I relate to Rebecca being blind to her friends. This show was too good for this world. Every therapist should watch it. Every therapy patient, too.
I know I’m late to the game commenting here but I’m a psychologist (I’ve both ran clinical programs and provided group and one-on-one psychotherapy), I mainly work in addictions but I’ve worked quite a bit with BPD patients as well given the semi-high rate of comorbidity between the two. I think psychologists should watch and would enjoy this show as much as I have all 10 times I’ve watched it. It’s highly, highly accurate, doesn’t stigmatize, and the realistic yet similarly hope-driving representation of the symptoms of BPD as they play out in a person are absolutely spot on. They had to have had multiple licensed clinical psychologists and/or social workers on staff and/or consultants who are diagnosed with BPD and stable, there’s no way they could have pulled off such a wonderfully accurate and well balanced representation of mental illness otherwise. And the reason therapists should watch this is because it puts you in the shoes of the patient…their entire shoes. The ups, the downs, the in-between moments, the maladaptive thought processes involved and the adaptive solutions offered by the psychology staff characters….it’s brilliant and holistic in a way that spending 4-8 years in school, 1 hour in front of a patient, or a lifetime of 1 hour snippets of time looking into someone’s life and psyche is not. It’s almost like a fictionalized but accurate and detail-oriented case study, and it hits the nail right on the head. Even the psychotherapist’s perspective is fairly ok, Dr. Akopian, it accurately represents the difficulties that many psychotherapists face when treating certain disorders (though I can 100% confirm I would not bill a patient for hours they didn’t attend nor would I tell myself things like “just keep thinking of that kayak” because it’s unethical). My fellow psychologists might feel the same way, but when I watch this show I look for even the most subtle representations of the criteria for BPD, and when you look for them, they’re not only plentiful but incredibly well represented. I see this show as a win for those with BPD, and destigmatizing. It shows that people with a BPD diagnosis can indeed be successful and lovable protagonists.
Oh I know it well enough to sing along rather well without messing up the ever-changing-rhythm and I bet most of us here do now lol. Such a great song, one of the best of the entire show IMO.
This song might be my favorite in the entire show. It's freakin' hilarious, but I live the way it still ends on a lonely Rebecca allows the audience to sit in that sadness with her. It makes the sound feel more profound.
Great attention to detail. I love that Rebecca is the only one that doesn't connect to the rest of the company at the end. Its such a good tie back to BPD symptoms.
This song captures a sort of loneliness that feels so specific that it feels even lonelier, while at the same time pointing out that in the ways that are important, other people are going through the same thing too. And as someone who is going through that sort of feeling right now, this song helped. I guess I still feel lonely, but I don’t feel as if I’m lonely alone.
Rachel... you are a treasure. Don't let anybody tell you otherwise. I am gonna miss this show a bunch (get it?), but I will always take with me the lessons it brought to the spotlight through beautiful songs such as this one. May you shine brighter in other projects, getting much more recognition for your talent.
"YOU TRIED YOUR BEST TO MAKE A CHANGE BUT PEOPLE JUST THINK YOU’RE STRANGE" This hits so close to home and so it's so true! When trying to change yourself and improve, it's a complicated process to cope with other people's "objections" because it's not how they're used to seeing you and ofc they resist the change. You need to redefine the way you communicate with them, even your relationship sometimes! Thank you for making such a relatable show! I will always treasure Crazy Ex-Girlfriend close to my heart! Thank you Rachel Bloom.
Whenever I feel like I’m probably the only one in the world who has ever dealt with the feelings I’m going through, because no one in my specific social circle has talked about it, I always think back to this song and it makes me feel better. Of course, I’m probably the only one in this comment section who does that.
im pretty sure its meant to include everyone but rebecca, because at the end of the song she doesn't see everyone in the boxes around her and is covinced she's alone
@@audreykaat That's a good prediction, but I think the others are right about them meaning George again. If they meant Rebecca, the first part wouldn't make sense, because they all say "three-part harmony" instead of two-part, which they would say if they couldn't see Rebecca.
Point taken, Rachel, but for anyone who actually is dealing with an experience too unique to form an eleven part harmony, you're valid too. Don't beat yourself up for feeling isolated in a legitimately tough situation.
This is perfect. Because we are not alone, our problems are not unique. There are people who understand what we are going through, we just think there is no one but it is not true! Everyone is asking where's white josh so here's my theory: the final episode explains that this is all happening in rebecca's head. We also know that white josh doesn't like rebecca and that rebecca doesn't really care for him either( she heard that his house burned down but waited till the end of to circus to go see what happened and then forgot about it). We see that he is replaced by the grocery store guy who, in my opinion looks a lot like him so i think that rebecca,in her moment of depression just confused white jo with the grocery guy because ,as i said, doesn't really think or care about him or just had a closer conection with the grocey guy than with josh
The grocery guy is actually present in "I have friends". That means he's Rebecca's friend. At least in her mind. White Josh is constantly pushing her away. So he doesn't have any place in her fantasia.
HOLY CRAP I CAN'T WAIT FOR THE PREMIERE. I've watched and rewatched the series 7 times, and the writing is absolutely incredible! I notice a new literary element every time!!
This is what it was like living with a BPD. Ironically the diagnosis still makes you feel othered, that the people in your life won't understand what you're going through. But that can't be farther from the truth. I'm glad that I've recovered enough to no longer meet the diagnostic criteria and hope that Rebecca has the same journey to show those struggling with BPD that it is definitely possible.
Do yourself a favor and go to 3:10 and watch each person's "every changing rhythm" dance. The left arrow key takes you to the perfect spot over and over.
So proud that I know the ever-changing rhythm enough to sing along.
Can you see in 11-part harmony? Or maybe in unison?
YES
JC absolutely
Same
I only know the song where they say it’s not hitlers fault
the funniest part of this song is that Heather and Valencia are actually standing right next to each other
They were probably holding hands for real.
Actually in the "reach out my lonely hand" part, i think they were shooting in the same place at different times
I think it's part of the simbolism like you don't know that the person next you goes through what your going through but yea that was funny
man i just figured !
And at the end when they notice each other
The end, where Rebecca was the only one who didn't notice the other people singing, made me legit so sad.

Also the fact when everyone sees each other in the other boxes George is just waiting for Nathaniel to notice him.

I think its much sadder - and its the fact that theyre not counting rebecca - like when she doesnt notice everyone else
"That's so specific" and Josh and Nathaniel both have people sleeping behind them HAHAHAHAHA YES GOOD JOKE I LOVE THIS SHOW
Oh goodness I missed that little detail! Great catch!
I loved that the sleepers woke up and sang along, in case anyone missed them in the background during that line.

If you haven't taken the time to watch each individual company member's dance moves on "ever-changing rhythm" (3:10), I highly recommend it.
Hector's voice is incredible
This is what it was like living with a BPD. Ironically the diagnosis still makes you feel othered, that the people in your life won't understand what you're going through. But that can't be farther from the truth. I'm glad that I've recovered enough to no longer meet the diagnostic criteria and hope that Rebecca has the same journey to show those struggling with BPD that it is definitely possible.
OMG! It's Britney Young from GLOW as Rebecca's cellmate!
Sarah Walsh YAAAAAAS! ♥
Wasn’t she also in that summer camp episode for troubled teens
She was! Good catch!
She was an intern, left for her big acting break on GLOW, and came back guest star here!!
That's amazing! 😍 Way to kick ass, Britney!
i just replayed 3:09 9 times to look at each person's expression and movements
One thing is for sure its that no one else can understand how much I love this song.
Do yourself a favor and go to 3:10 and watch each person's "every changing rhythm" dance. The left arrow key takes you to the perfect spot over and over.
It is sO SMOOTH AND NICE TO WATCH, thank you
I'm going to watch this whenever I feel lonely. It's actually comforting.
Now I want a version where they're singing their parts by themselves.
