Glad you can be so positive of this outcome. I’d be cussing a storm but yeah, I’d calm down and fix the damn thing
Is very rare to find people like you now days. Blessings to you sir.
That old trane unit would have lasted another 20 years, if kept clean. I've got the same one. Those mid 1990s units were built like tanks.
Man EXCELLENT video. Spot on. Perfectly highlighted what is wrong with the new equipment sold today. We have 0 confidence that it will be right. Ppl don’t want to hear that a coil is leaking. They think you did something wrong. Kills your credibility. You do a repair like you did and then the thing leaks next week. You try to take it back to the manufacturer and they say you altered it. Obviously, if you got a good relationship with him, they might take care of you either way you’re out money and labor.
I've personally witnessed multiple of the recent 410A Goodman condenser units have leaks at the coil. It does suck when you have to replace faulty factory parts on a new install.
They spray oil all over the Pan in factory on Goodman.
Man, I feel exactly like you do right now! Been in hvac for 32 year, have had my own business for 15 years. I have installed Goodman, Carrier and Trane in that order. All of them have failed at one time or the other, when it comes to brand new reliable equipment at startup. Everything you said about how the you/customer should feel at the completion of a new system install is correct. In my personal opinion the manufacturers just don't care about the small businesses anymore, they care about volume sales only! No matter what they are making money so just don't care anymore. Now we get to see a new generation of equipment coming out, fingers crossed, but I expect the worst ever! Just being honest!
I had the same thing happen, but i got a new coil, installed it, and the new coil leaked, too. Luckily, it was a repairable leak. Good attitude, Tad.
Good job Tad, I also take pride in the work I do, and yes ur right, they don't make em like they used to! The new stuff is just garbage.
Nothing is made to last anymore.
Dropping York was the best move my previous company made over the years, aside from dropping goodman. We switched to carrier at the time who defienetly has their issues but nothing like three 2 year old 5 ton RTU Yorks that sprug more than 3 leaks per system. Carrier has sent me air handlers with dents but atleast they didnt forget the transformer like yorks done twice. York will even tell you how proud they are of their control boards, even after telling you they may not come preprogrammed once you are on the roof and already have it installed. I own two sets of Yorks quick connects used to charge the condensors becasue they forgot them on the units. However i did just get a carrier with a hole in the capacitor. It really all boils down to how well the salesman is going to make it up to you, the customer.
The ultra low nox has been a nightmare here in California
I'm gonna only do inverter heat pumps. ultra low nox doesnt work
I had issues with York units more with the package units I had one completely flat, and others with leaks on the manufacture welds
Seems to be a trend with a lot of appliance manufactures. No quality control and make it in the cheapest place with the cheapest materials. Get your customers to replace twice as often as a quality made piece of equipment
When will you distributor switch brands? When is enough, enough?
I’m with you! I have had the same issue.
Hey brother. I've been installing Ducane that was bought out by Allied it's a Armstrong with a Ducane sticker. I've had minimal problems. There great units and they really take care of me.Berkheimer is the supply House. Love your work as I think the same way you do. Great job my friend
Hey Tad, do you know pressure test new installs and spray bubbles on a U-bends to check for leaks? This is crazy that contractors have to go through this. This is why I will not buy a system without an extended labor warranty.
Rheem has the exact same issue brand new out the box.
You nailed it. New ones are trash
Thank you so much for the video. I just had the same exact thing happen to me. It was a York 2.5 ton and it was the same exact leak. Thank you for sharing.
I repaired the unit. I did not replace. Just eat it and move on.
I repaired it, and I did send a picture and video to my distributor, and I was able to get a payment of around three hundred and fifty dollars
Its because its a york. Pile of york as they say.
That only happens to me once...after that I Crack the service valve to check for refrigerant BEFORE they load it on the truck.🤷🏾♂️
5:01 we had an AC install in Co, we’re we finished up the whole instal up to releasing the refrigerant, we heard nothing and we had no pressure on our gauges… long day. We had no choice but to wait for a new unit and replace it .. customer didn’t want it repaired. They “ didn’t trust it “ neither did we.
I agree that you should try to repair old equipment because it was built with quality. But when I switched my old unit (GE1984-2018) for a new one, my bill dropped in half. I'm bummed that the new stuff breaks regularly, but it is so efficient. It feels like manufacturers just want to get the product out the door, then deal with the repairs later. Your good will and work ethic makes it easy for them to rush out half ass products because they know you will clean it up. You are the problem 😉
Yea, EVERYBODY & i mean EVERYBODY Needs to Get Pissed off at the Distributors so they convey to the Manufacturers that they are not happy about the crap coming down the pipe.
and Everybody just needs to keep switching suppliers to find the Best Product. After a Leaker like this He needs to say - I'm not buying from You anymore. Try another supplier & another Brand.
@TaddyDigeest That is great news!! Thank you.
It’s all brands, the trane equipment too have a couple bad batch myself brother keep moving forward don’t let it stress you
Thank you, brother. I appreciate your knowledge. Thank you for letting me know
My YORK condenser unit installed on 1987.... And still running..... but we decided to Upgrade to NEW Goodman System 😅👍
Taddy's gonna help you :)
Hmm that's really unfortunate on a new unit no quality control they manufacture those units and it seems they just don't care about the people installing these units the old unit sounds much better that the new one keep up the good work
You should call just to shame them, and get that consern out there for correction 😮
What you say is true, from my experience, the old devices are 10 times better than the new devices
I've installed at least 4 brand new carrier infinity systems in the last year that were empty. And countless brand new carrier systems have had stripped out services valves on the discharge
Happens to us more often than not now. And it’s all manufacturers from what I can tell. Lennox, trane, carrier, ice, bosh….name it we’ve had problem in the commercial world, big time. 18 years doing this and have never seen so many issue right from the factory. It’s disappointing to recommend new equipment now.
I had a brand new RUUD AC start up today and supplied power to it for the first time and the condenser fan motor was bad.
Also found their compressors failing as well on new units
See its reasons like this why U have such high level of respect for you…
When i get a heat pump i tap the true suction port to see of i got pressure. Saves some time to just check. Wish there was a way to check straight cools before it leaves the warehouse to the job site
Great idea
@@TaddyDigest oh and now that I think about it. I have tried to crack lines to check a straight cool but yeah not a good idea lol
York sucks. I recently installed a York package unit and it had a leak on the condenser coil. The distributor took it back and they delivered a new replacement that also had a leak. Horrible
Wish everyone had your attitude... Thx
Exactly. Getting tired of replacing compressors, board, thermostats, etc that are bad out of the box. And I'm by myself. Only been in business for a year. Makes me look horrible. Tired of it
New Bosch condenser, can't open the liquid valve as the hex threads came worn out from factory. Key just turns inside the hole. Bosch blamed me but gave me a new valve.
3 Weeks after, different system (brand new) , Summit coil leaking water form pan
York/Coleman Wichita ks
Man I feel your pain on that BS, that is why I don't deal york had to many problems.
Yep. They should take care of you
I'll keep you cool if you'll let me, and if the equipment doesn't let me down.
😂
Yo taddy I watch the ads for you I guess you can say it’s a way to pay you back for this great knowledge that being said I came across a unit that was as old as me the other day :) r22 was a great refrigerant and the systems kicked butt it was a Lennox but the quality now is going downhill also the welds are very poor, so I agree if you can repair it do because it’s hard to come across r22 cheaply but if it completely goes out then it should be replaced
My old AC unit lasted 30 years before I bought a new one and they say the new ones only last 10 to 15 years...
Hi I know what the first problem was? It’s a YORK lol just kidding . It’s to the point now that you have to see when all the parts are manufactured. If built on Monday or Friday worst thing to buy . Humpday( Wednesday) best units to buy
This is a problem mostly with York equipment...multiple times I've seen this. Glad I don't install those anymore.
I've had furnaces where the heat exchanger is cockeyed inside because it wasn't put together properly. York is junk.
I’ve only had bad experiences with York. I refuse to sell their product. The liquid line drier location is ridiculous and they always leak!
Should have stuck with Trane Teddy lol. Definitely make the claim. You owe it to the homeowner and the manufacturer owes it to you! Thanks for sharing though. It’s not always rainbows and unicorns.
You teamed up with your distributor. They should take care of you, I hope. Its lost time and lost revenue plus lost trust with the customer that you can never get back. Its a rough road to travel. Its all brands with issues like these. Keep up the fight til it reaches the manufacturer.
Yes, I did team up with the distributor, and the distributor was able to give me some money for our lost time on this repair.
I will keep up the fight brother. Thank you
YORK. Surprise,Surprise!
Manufacturers know you’ll fix it in the field. Why wouldn’t they cut back on quality? They’re launching all the way to the bank.
Problem with icp no refrigerant. I made a claim for refrigerant and repair.
Sounds like you need to go to another brand. Maybe Trane😉
My company doesn't install york because we have had to deal with such shitty quality control from them these past couple of years. Goodman honestly has been far better quality it just has to do with who installs it. York and trane have had the most bad out of the box parts/units that I have seen so far.
I put in a brand new Rheem / Ruud system the other day and at start up the compressor was noisy, it was cooling but real noisy…….. and I had to replace the compressor for free on a brand new unit. # JUNK
I know the unit brand doesn’t matter installation quality matters but someone told me Yorks are painted brown because they are built like crap
Don’t condensers come pre-loaded with refrigerant? When you installed it did it have a good amount of refrigerant? It shouldn’t have happened to a new unit though. Even after the fact. I would repair and call it in for warranty replacement.
yes
We install icp, I’ve had 5 outdoor units in the last year and a half that still had nitrogen in them from the factory.
Wow that is crazy
Send'em back! If they get enough returns to refill their warehouses, then maybe the USA could start a manufacturing plant? Naw; too many mixed and different races for quality from USA anymore.
@@TaddyDigest when I lived in Oregon I installed carrier (aka ICP) heat pumps and air conditioners for four years straight. I only had one outdoor unit that was low on refrigerant from the factory.
💪🏼
after install befor put in ref410 you must a make vacuum test or nitrotest.so you can find during you installation in first time that leaking and not coming back second time.vacuuming good to understanding
I'm sure he did that. But the leak was on the other side of the valve where the factory charge is held. That part of the system is not part of the vacuum or nitrogen test. His repair was legit. But was BS overall. It should have never been needed.
The fact that anyone still installs YORK baffles me. Not the YORK of 20-30 years ago.
You are amazing
The company i work for installs Trane and ive had the same issue several times on new installs its not just York
Good to know this brother. Thank you, jake
You and the distributor should write a letter to the CEO regarding the quality issues. I’m sure you keep a logbook of all the issues that you encounter and have to repair due to poor quality. I’m sure the distributor also deals with other contractors that are frustrated just like you are and they too should all sign the letter. This crap has to stop!! Customers are fed up with having to spend a substantial amount of money only to end up with a substandard product. Thank God for you Tad!!!
I agree
I'm sure the distributor has it even harder than I do dealing with all the quality issues.
I hope everything works out
@@TaddyDigest The reason I mentioned writing to the CEO is because my mother-in-law, who has since passed, owned a Chevrolet impala that always had problems with the window regulator breaking and she had enough. In her letter she stated the reason she bought the vehicle was because the vehicle was advertised as trouble/ maintenance free. To her surprise the CEO responded and General Motors made good on it. God rest her soul!!
You should make the clame, how else are they gonna know.!!!@
In today's world they make things to sell not to last!!!!!!!
I know most people say York is junk but I've had one in my house for 8 yrs and I haven't even changed the capacitor on it yet. I've only had this same issue with Trane after doing a start up on a brand new unit
Thank you for sharing this information. This is awesome I appreciate you
I base what name brands are good by the longevity i see in the feild, always thought York built good ones, i put a compressor in a 40 year old york package unit a few years ago, i believe it's still going, i would think twice about putting a compressor in a 10 year old York or Goodman, the newer ones just aren't built as good as the older ones
To be honest I really haven’t heard good things about the York brand.
I’m sorry brother. I’ve had similar issues with York. I don’t know what happened to them.
@TaddyDigeest oh man! I’m so excited. I just finished a 14 hr day so that’s makes it a good one!
I do all my giveaways live. Do not fall for this idiot scammer.
He is spamming very hard right now
@@TaddyDigest oh snap! Well, he would do that to me on a day that I’m tired out of my mind. I appreciate you, Tadd. I’ll be looking for your live stream.
I'm glad you're here, brother. I'm gonna take care of this fool. Make sure he stops trying to scam people
@@TaddyDigest I’m glad I’m here too. I wholeheartedly trust that you have all our best interests in mind.
Did you have to replace the oil too?
no
You need to look out for the Customer and recommend a better Brand Trane or Carrier and be done,,,
I agree, now days equipment are garbage. Different brand labels but all the same.
They are assembled by robots
JC
Bullshit, take it back asap. That should not have made it past final inspection
I do all my giveaways live. There is someone that is pretending to be me and they are spamming hard. They are trying to get you to think you've won something and text. Or call a certain number. Please do not fall for this scammer..
This is my admonishment to you..
Please be careful out there. Stay healthy stay happy
Man made item it sucks but it happens
York isn't worth it.
Almost fella for a scam. Thank god my bank blocked the transaction
K. Your taken care of by the distributor, but how much ill will, negative publicity are you experiencing, if known, by having to fix issues that should never have occurred? Dumping York isn’t the solution as all manufacturers to one extent or another is producing poor quality. You had the correct answer earlier in convincing the customer to go with the repair. Best of luck going forward, Tad.
I used to be a Lennox dealer and other than the thin leaky indoor coil issues most brands had 10 years ago they are pretty well built and never had a DOA leaker. Now getting parts for all the big brands sucks as they have minimal stocking and " on time " delivery which is Bull sheet.
I am in Canada and them having a motor 2 Provinces away on Christmas eve when it is -30 F or -30 C does not cut it. Yeah we can get it next day delivery but try that during XMAS. All the brands suck with that minimal inventory crap. The biz is run by bean counters not trades people who know what is needed. IMO Lennox is the best of the worst.
this can happen in any company, just cause you got one that made it past qc dosnt mean it will happen all the time then I would complain, so show us where this has happened more then once then I would say the company is bad
It's happened hundreds of times
What happens every other install right now
I make a claim each month right now
That's why you can see me not happy in this video
This is a cheap unit of insufficient quality. Tad very professional, he is tried to do great gob. It is what it is
its not all about you tad
truth That's why I do these videos 📹
you are talking to deaf ears...Why would they want to make it better. instead of buying 2 or 3 systems, they get to sell 4 or 5 to a homeowner. Obviously, if they wanted to make it leak free they could easily do it with better copper and more solder on their joints. This is not an accident.
But only thing i do disagree with you on is leaving a unit with 1 degree sub cooling just because you weighed the charge in the system. adding a little more refrigerant can easily get your sub cool up and still be within a safe range of your head pressure in most cases.
I was a seminar in my line of work or there was a known defective part from the OEM. It would have been very easy to fix. After the OEM rep gave his speech another high and mighty tech proudly stood up for the good of humanity and asked the OEM after so many years of failures why haven't they fixed the issue. The OEM looks straight at him and I will never forget this "Do you really want us to fix it?" The tech sat the F down and didn't say another word. lol We all made so much money replacing this part with pretty much another bad one.
@@scotts4125 I straight up tell customers almost the same thing. Manufacturer quality brings us more business, unfortunately it is you the customer that ends up getting the raw end of the deal. Sorry about that, but that is where the world has come to. Throw away parts and products.
