There's more than one pressure switch in the world..

Not that I’m aware of. A simple resi / light commercial gas furnace will have a rating like -.30 inWC or something like that. If you stick your manometer on the collector box pressure port you should read higher than that. Somewhere above -.30 inWC. If you’re reading higher than the rating on the switch, the switch should be closed which will tell the board the inducer is running and we’ve proved draft and we can try for ignition.
Edit: unless I’m reading your comment wrong. It’s a little confusing

@carlgreen4497 you've never seen more than one pressure switch in 20 years then?

@@Diabloshell Really what he is referring too is called a proofing switch, on the gas side that proofs the inducer is on or not clogged in venting yes I have only seen one, I have seen sail switches in duct work but that's another beast.

Some issues are the bugs getting in there....tech support for some of these manufacturers is now a sales based thing....sales persons are doing the tech support so you will not get technical information.....just buy buy buy buy.

Understanding how they work is not the problem. Knowing the pressure they make or break at is. No one has access to factory tech support for every manufacturer. Some manufactures do not list the pressure on the switch. Without that information you cant be 100% sure of your diagnosis. I'm assuming the issue is either the inducer assembly or the switch and not a venting issue.

I've had 2 years of tech school and nearly 5 in the field and havent seen a pressure switch without a rating on it. Which manufacturer do you see that on?

@@Glaedr11 What manufacturers are you seeing most? I entered the field in 1990 and spent the better part of the 90's a Lennox factory tech. I had access to Lennox tech support so the info I needed was a phone call away. Lennox, Trane, Carrier were always very guarded and only supplied info to their dealers. Rheem/Ruud usually had the pressure on the switch as did the dozens of over the counter brands available. Maybe it's loosening up. The last Carrier Infinity furnace I saw had the pressures listed on all three differential pressure switches. I've been out of the field for the last 15 years except for a few weeks a year I ride with apprentices. I've been an HVAC instructor and instructional designer in that time.

@@RalphMercuroMusic My company installs and maintains Lennox systems, but we work on every common residential brand in the northeast US. Just never come across a switch without the rating on it, idk
