Mr. Chester Burton Atkins! As a guitar player I have admired this man my entire life. Taste, tone, magic and incredible technique. How can anyone love guitar and not love Chet Atkins!
I taught myself his unique finger picking style when I was 13, and I've played that way ever since. There will never be another like him. On a side note, did anyone else notice Jackie Phelps sitting behind him with his custom guitar?
I had a Jackie Phelps album in the mid 70s Jackie was a great finger picker.I followed a f picker around 1969/71 It took me nearly 2 yrs to separate my fingers& thumb,I thought I was stupid but it's hard to do. I sorta changed worked on chord harmonies,Don't think I will be able to play much longer hands getting weak I'm 70 that thot kills me!.
Came from very humble background.sure he could get plenty of work playing country.he put many players out of business in Nashville he wanted to go to a higher level.boy did he.
Chester played to Kings and Queens around the world, sat in for a few Hank Sr recording sessions and the Carter family. He inspired Mark Knopler, Scotty Moore and George Harrison to ponder life as serious guitarist musicians. He's musical royalty who had seen and done it all. Credit.
There was about a 40 year period where there was Chet, and the next best wasn't even close. It was like Usain Bolt of the 100 meter dash in the Olympics.
Welcome to the Club! Chet was unique. I Had the previlege to be His daughter s penpal after iwrote to him how much l was inspired by His guitar playing in the late 195os. Merle and l we're about the same age.the Atkins Family was really great. They were obvipusly impressed by a Girl from Berlin, Germany.
I am Glas you liked my coment on Chet I Last saw him in1984 after i Had celebrated Birthday with "my" other June 20thman Jimmy driftwood'. I Had a Long stay at cleda and Jimmy s. Even though i Had to fly Home immidiately, i couldn t resist Chet s invitation. Was a little too late for his birthday. Arkansas IS Not Just Atkins the corner from Nashville, Tennessee. Yet itwas a pleasure, you bet
Just found out about chet atkins.. I instantly had to learn his picking style.. its incredible... you can make it sound like 2 guitars playing with just your right hand and simple chords.... sweet
Chet married Leona in 1946 and they were together over 50 years. In the first videos there is a ring on his hand but it does not look like a wedding ring. In the later videos I don't see a ring. ????????
4:22 can't figure out if that's a some kind of "tassle" or decoration on that lady in front of Chets hat... Or the price tag still hanging off the hat lol Giving her the benefit of the doubt it's probably a decoration not a price tag. But it sure does look an aweful lot like a price tag
Sorry, poor people of Paris is the second song, i remember the First Song Lyrics Something Like "lin french they say Oui oui,in spain they say si si etc, try to remember correct words
Atkins played flamenco? hahahahahahahaha hahaha don't make me laugh!!! Atkins didn't even really understand flamenco, if he played a couple of tunes that's fine, but he just did NOT have what it takes to play flamenco. Flamenco is something that is on another level
I think some people may have some misconceptions on what made Chet so admired and respected amongst musicians- I don’t believe he claimed to be a master of any style, he was a professional musician especially in the sense of studio / producer. Yes there are better players that perform flamenco as their primary style, what made Chet unique was his technical application to most any style needed, in studio or live performance. Chet obviously had no intentions of being a show off. There were plenty of show offs in the world of music already. Real musicians pay respect to Chet, you might need try to look from a different disposition he is a very valuable study for a musician.
Chet did play flamenco. Not among the greatest of the flamenco guitarists, but was accomplished in the genre, nevertheless: ua-cam.com/video/_IzJ2Z-aybE/v-deo.html and ua-cam.com/video/B86nv0KJYe8/v-deo.html
Wow. The thought of us not having him any more. There will probably never be another guitar talent like him again.

The first thing I learnt to play when I took up the guitar in 1964 was Walk Don’t Run after I heard Chet Atkins play it.
Chet's guitar tone just has a snap to it that no one else has.
Chet led the way and taught the world how play fingerstyle.
My favourite guitarist of all time

"Instantly?" I'm impressed.😁🤩🤩😁
To play like him you need a Gretsch guitar.
Great work.
What song
As Cindy Lauper said of Dolly Parton, if you don't like Chet Atkins there is something wrong with you.
yep
I preferred the Gretsch years, having started with the Teensville album.
Did you see that ending at 7:15?
Chet married Leona in 1946 and they were together over 50 years.
In the first videos there is a ring on his hand but it does not look like a wedding ring.
