    It makes me sad thinking,where did the music go and why did it go so bad.These days it seems are gone forever.I think of my band and the great times and good concerts back then,man it was awesome.The lyrics and music together just was the best.

      Just turned 53, I so get it my friend. So many say "why do listen to that old stuff" I listen to it because it has depth, soul, and you can understand the words and emotions they pull forth from our being. Fight the good fight!

      There is no heart and soul in much of what is put out there today. Just earlier this morning, my wife and I were talking about the music from our day that evokes a wide range of emotion. I used present tense because it still holds true. How many times have you read here how a young person of today wishes he had grown up at in earlier time when music was... meaningful? Oh yea...56 here. :)

    • @Retinen1
      @Retinen1 9 років тому +4

      51 here guys and I was actually at the filming of the Follow Your Heart video filming in Rhode Island the day they blew Rik Emmett up. I stayed until the end. I actually wanted to know he was okay before I left. That is a night I will never forget. They put on one of the best shows I have ever seen and then the pyrotechnic guys almost killed the lead singer. You just don't forget those things.
      And you guys are right, the lyrics meant something back then. Luckily some of the hard rock/heavy metal guys today, like Disturbed, and a few others are putting out stuff with some meaning, but the pop stuff is awful! If you want music that has that strong, orchestrated sound, you have to look overseas at bands like Nightwish.

    • @fligemon
      @fligemon 9 років тому +5

      There is no current POP song that gets the juices going like this song and others of the true RnR era. You will not hear any song of the recent past referred to as an "anthem". George Clinton invented a character that can describe current crap music: Sir Nose Devoid a Funk.

    • @Retinen1
      @Retinen1 9 років тому +5

      fligemon Harsh but pretty accurate. You can get some really good rock music today, but the unfortunate part is you have to be willing to either listen to bands doing tributes or find ones that don't get any radio play. A lot of them are in countries like Norway and Finland.

    How can anyone realistically dislike this song? Great vocal performance, great song arrangement and awesome hook that makes you want to listen to it at least a second time after hearing it once.

      They were both three- piece Canadian bands - and that's where the comparison ends. Rush went on a musical journey that lasted 40 years and took them on a musical journey far from their roots as Led Zeppelin copyists. From the few Triumph songs I heard way back when (they were virtually unknown in the UK), they were a straight down the line blues based rock band. Not that there's anything wrong with that, but the comparisons with Rush are way off the mark.

    This is live from the Aragon Ballroom in Chicago,il in 1979 and i was in the 5th row and let me say this was and still is the best BAND to see live as their shows through the years were awsome with all the laser works they had. I cannot believe that RIK EMMETT is not in the top 50 guitar players of all time,that is just a crime in itself.I have seen them at least 10 times and by far the best concert show

    I mean,my list changes as I listen to the best of the best,and as of right now,this song is a top ten banger for sure!!The guitar and this mans epic voice and well written lyrics just makes me wanna run through walls on a cocaine binge!!And as an 80’s baby I thought the 80’s where boring and this song is proof that I was wrong as fk in my assessment!!

    I saw these guys in 1980 in Austin, TX .. and then in 1985 in miami.. the 1985 show was the best laser light show ever.. it was just unreal.. those were the days... Rik Emmit is not only a great guitarist, but also vocalist... they are right up there with Rush as far as canadian bands go..what a good song.

    I got the chance to see a lot of great bands and singers in concert, from the mid 70s throughout the 80s. For Goodness sakes I even saw Rick James in Oakland CA in 83, but never got the chance to see Triumph. I really wanted to see them too, but they where never even close to being in an area where I was at any time during their run. I still regret not having found a way, because they where one of the ones I listened to over and over again. I did however get to see Heart, twice, 79 and 81, Led Zeppelin in 81, The Stones, Black Sabbath, Iron Butterfly, even Elvis, to name a few. Triumph, not once. Sux for me.

      I on the other hand only have seen a handful of concerts in my lifetime. I probably wont make you feel any better though, lol. I saw Triumph at their peak in the early 80s and they were outstanding. They sounded every bit as good live as on their recordings but better. The real deal, no musical trickery, just an honest to goodness rock'n'roll band.Of course they played all their best known songs including my fav 'Lay It On The Line' and they were awesome on all those. They didnt do much of show except when they played 'The Blinding Light Show', a song I was unfamiliar with at the time. As it turns out the song is one of those long epic jams, like 10-11 mins long. A giant mirrored disco ball dropped down from the center of the venue and they shined the laser lights on it. The arena was transformed into outer space and the light show went perfectly with this song that had these alternating soft slow to hard fast and loud passages. Molly Hatchet was the opening act and they were good too but not nearly as loud. I guess they were kind of fading out at the time and Triumph on the rise so the extra amplification was reserved for the headliner which seemed to be the norm during the period I attended concerts. Definitely a memorable evening of rock for my wife and I.

      waynemegaman Hey man, thx for that. I love their songs still, and just knew they would do a pure and real concert. I got to see Molly Hatchet as an opener for Charlie Daniel's. I don't recall the year, but Daniel's song at the time was, The Devil went down to Georgia. I believe it was his come back tour after his hand was mangled in a hay baler accident. Any who, thx so much for the recollection.

      62636263c I'd like to know how you saw Zepp in 81 when Bonzo died in 80? On a side note, I saw these guys jam in 86. Awesome set! The laser face in the sky wreaked havoc with my little acid trip though!

      It may have been anywhere from 79 to 81. It was quite some time ago. I did see the last WHO concert in the early 80s also. It was at Candlestick park in San Fransisco. I was stationed at Treasure Island at the time. I had been stationed there 4 times between 81 and 84 for veriest reasons, ie school, pre and post deployment ect, US Navy. Those days are a bit hazy now.

      Don Coker~ When did band fandom, become synonymous with believing, that music's sole purpose, is about this big, contrived competition with one another !!?.... "RUSH" is a great band, "TRIUMPH" is a great band...Let's just leave it at that, shall we ?

    • @yournamehere1886
      @yournamehere1886 5 років тому

      Carl Postuma ~ Not a competition here, that's not what music is about! It's meant to be enjoyed, and not fought over, on some UA-cam comment section!!

    • @yournamehere1886
      @yournamehere1886 5 років тому

      Murray Johnson ~ Not really Murray, the competition between "RUSH" fans, and "TRIUMPH"fans, and the bands themselves, is all in your head,and that's never been what music has been about, and it never will be !!

      Michael Cabezudo Michael,I too am a Triumph fan.But you apparently missed an earlier comment about how they sounded like Geddy Lee.Sorry if I offended you but Rush is the true Canadian power trio.Pre-Triumph days.I saw Triumph two times in the states and they rocked the house. But if you watch the video you will see the similarities to Rush onstage.The huge drum set,the doubleneck guitar,and the hair. Also if you remember there was another great band called Mahogany Rush that was excellent too.Canadian I do believe.Jimi Hendrix style.Hell yeh!

    • @b-radg916
      @b-radg916 8 років тому

      I'll agree that Rush is the original Canadian power trio, but for me, Triumph is an uncontested second. I'm not sure where Frank Marino and Mahogany Rush were from, but I saw them live and they had nothing on Triumph.

    Rik will always boggle my mind. I'm just old enough to appreciate this music (38) and what Rik can do. I've played guitar for about 30 years, and I can sing with a wide range of voice...but BOTH AT ONCE???? Lead guitar AND vocals...words cannot describe that level of talent. Rik sings at the extremes of what a mans voice can do, and can really jam on lead guitar while doing so. Rock might never die, but I won't hold my breath waiting for talent like this in new music.
