"...The correct response to surviving an orbital bombardment is NOT to orbitally bombard them right back." I'm literally dead. Battletech lore has more room for shenanigans then I thought.
Many years ago, 10-year-old me was introduced to BattleTech through _The Crescent Hawks Inception_ It was the coolest thing he had ever seen in his life. Now, today-years-old me gets this video -- hopefully the first in a long series -- and I remember exactly how I felt back then. Thank you for helping an old man feel young again.
I had just seen your post on BT Reddit on upcoming books & this video. Well, I commented asking where the video was as I had forgotten about this one & didn't even know who you were 4 months ago. Now since then I've spent many an otherwise boring shift (boring is good in my line of work) binging on the non abridged BT books & even heard your interview on a BT podcast. You do great work & I hope you're working on some of the newer novels as I type this.
If you haven’t seen them already you should look up Tex talks Battletech, it’s in universe for the most part after the first few episodes and just great.
@@gadget19k76 Yep! I'm a huge fan of Tex's work. Just happy to see more of that sort of thing out there. Plus this one I can share with my friend's kid who is getting into BT. Tex isn't exactly kid friendly, lol.
That's was great. Cresent Hawk was my first contact to the Battletech Universe when I was a kid. I lost track of it but now I'm trying to get into this game and that video was spot on.
Suriprised given this is supposedly a briefing by the Crescent Hawks I'm surprised that there is zero mention of the fact they were considered an independent company of the kell hounds....
Thank you very much for this and as many others have said you did a great job. I appreciate the use of the first merc unit I learned of when I played BT: Crescent Hawk's Inception on the Commodore 64 many, many years ago. Please make this a series.
Ive been quietly watching from the sidelines ever since CGL started releasing Battletech sets. With how the IP had been treated over the years, I was skeptical of anything new. Despite that, CGL just keeps knocking it out of the park with every release. Once I saw it blow the doors off the Clan Invasion numbers, I backed Mercenaries at Battalion without hesitation. It's my first Kickstarter.
I'm not sure whether I'm allowed to speak for the folks at CGL (an ironic statement, given that speaking for them is my job) but for my own self, I am delighted to hear that expectations have been met and exceeded! Here's to MUCH more!
Lol the trope of a tape recorder in the future, and switching the tape and the artifacting of the screen, most people won’t notice this but I do. Lekek.
So, funny coincidence. I'm a Battletech newcomer, and started playing mw5 recently. I just ran into the famed Kell archer on the market a couple hours ago
The Crescent Hawks the lance sized merc unit that needs its own training vid. Just exactly how high is "turn over" in this command? Also any time you're facing a Kell Hounds commander, nuke from orbit. It might not work but it stands a better chance than anything else than has been tried. So far shooting them has resulted in at least 3 recorded instances of utter failures of targeting systems and one takeover of a clan.
I have a simple criticism about this that I hope you guys take into account for the future: The sound effects were a bit too high in volume at times, most of the issue it caused was being too much for my ADHD brain. Other than that, I love the video and look forward to seeing you guys do more. Subscribed!
I love Mechwarrior 3 in large part because of its excellent mission briefings. This video was a delight to watch- thanks CGL! Side note- surprised they didn’t mention Phelan Kell.
Weird to frame it as a Crescent Hawks training vid and then the first one isn't about either (A) life as a for-profit mechwarrior or (B) an overview (or history) of the Crescent Hawks. That said, as an old Crescent Hawks Revenge fan I'd love to see some new CH gaming content.
Well, it seems that for the 'Big Picture' divide we have the Wolf-run Star League on one side, with the relocated Clans and Successor States falling in line to various degrees, and the on the other side the Cappellan Confederation and ALL THE MERCS.
I would LOVE lore videos such as this in future uploads! as would many others of us i think 😅 between CGL and Tex doing in-depth lore videos, i'll have more knowledge than i do british history!
Never mind. There's a Warhawk in the background when they're talking about the battle that Prince Ian Davion was killed in. Not to mention that the Crescent Hawks were folded in to the Kell Hounds during the Clan Invasion, only going independent again during the Jihad. I'd have thought that would have been worth noting as well.
Awesome! But you forgot to mention Phellan Kell, who became one of the first bondsman of Clan Wolf or how he went on to become the SaKhan of the Clan, or his return to the IS as Khan of the Wolves-in-exile.
Holy fuck seeing this, I'm hoping for a modernized remake of Crescent Hawk's Inception that adds even more depth to the game and keeps the company level command.
3:27 "His nephew, Victor Steiner-Davion, would later try his own hand at heroically battling superior numbers against Clan Jade Falcon on Trell I, whereupon his closest friend punched him senseless and dragged him off the planet. Having a head of state or heir apparent join in personal combat is only good for morale if they come back alive."
very good video, hope that you folks have plans on doing some more for other mercenary commands. Grey Death Legion, Wolf's Dragoons, Northwind Highlanders, Eridani Light Horse, Etc...
How can this be a Crescent Hawks talk without the appearance of a Kurita double-agent? Also, gotta love when the game chooses Rex as the random double-agent. Instant loss.
I'm sure I had Rex as the double once, but the game replaced his role with someone else. But There’s a lot of things I've apparently misremembered about that game. I think it doesn’t help that the PC and Commodore versions were not identical either.
Neat! Now, how about getting dibs on the Chameleon for this weeks training exercise re-enacting Jason Youngblood's daring escape from the Pacifica Training Center?
My wife also has the dice gods in her side. I would bet she would defeat Morgan Kell. In my first game I only needed the smallest possible hit to destroy her mech and it was only 1 hex away. My Thunderbolt fired everything and everything failed. Then she fired a single medium laser that went through in a TAC attack and landed in the ammo bin. Today she did it again. My mechs failed every shot. And then her Hunchback fired its AC20 which landed on the left torso of my Dragon, causing a critical hit that landed on the LRM10 ammo bin. The dragon was set on fire. And it was only turn 2. While playing RPG, using Mechwarrior Destiny she rolled a dice to hit a Locust with her hand pistol in the cockpit and she killed the enemy pilot. The dice gods love her. I have never seen anyone with such luck with dice. Her luck is beyond supernatural. Not even Morgan Kell would impress me after seeing her.
@@HeadHunterSix I'm saying that from the perspective of a merc outfit that wants to stick to the merc stuff. The directives from the corporate 'investors' dictate that any wolfy people are best left... ignored.
So, I know throughout the games history, the 'Hawks have been associated with the Hounds, but shouldn't this video have talked about... you know... the actual Crescent Hawks? Maybe about what they've been up to since Jezebel Youngblood took over? Except for the one brief blurb on the "spotlight on" book, we have no idea what the hawks themselves are up to.
good good stuff... I used to be strictly a dragoons fanboy but info like this has been stealing my loyalties away to outfits like the Hounds in particular, and lighthorses as well
So glad to see the CH unit again. So many good memories of those classic games.
The video is a training video from 3149 but references events in 3151. Impressive intel capability there.
Trenn Sparks is fantastic! Every words written for BT he recites is absolute gold! Loved this!
To me, he is the literal voice of Battletech.
@@SANSd20 That's very kind. Fortunately, BattleTech has many voices!

I hope we get a whole new rush in the lore and novels. This was awesome as a recap and I hope it gets more people into this beautiful space opera
There are many new novels and the lore. Whole new era. Don't worry ;)

You're thinking of George LeDeux aka Duncan Fischer.
Love the Kell Hounds! They managed to put as much hurt on House Kurita as the Wolf's Dragoons but without any advanced tech! True legends!
Blood of Kerensky was one of those formative sci fi series for me as a teenager, it's so cool to hear about the Kell Hounds again
This is great, and exactly what new MechWarriors need in the IlClan era. Looking forward to the one on Snord’s Irregular’s, and any future novels.
Very cool. I hope you do more for other Mercenary groups.
