      If you have not watched it yet i have done a follow up video recently on the antenna 1 year on, all is good and really like the aerial. You wont be disappointed and the build quality is very good, all the best for the install.

    What's it like in the wind. Thinking about buying one of the these but my qth is on top of a hill and just a bit scared of it bending then snapping.

      It doesn't move hardly at all in the wind for me, the aluminium is of good quality. Obviosuly every aerial has its limits in the wind so depending on how exposed and how strong a wind you have I can't say you won't have a problem, I am on the top of a hill and its been fine for me , as i say it hardly moves. Good luck and hope all works out ok, let me know what aerial you decide to get in the end.

    Interesting video, thanks for sharing. I have been a subscriber from within a few days of conception of the channel. Due to the equipment I use for viewing youtube, it means I have to sign in on something else to comment, which is why I haven't commented since the interference videos. The sirio 2016 is a good aerial, it is a good widebanded, low noise and not as obtrusive as the 2012 or 2008 or 827. I'm never keen on the swaged poles though, especially at 1.5 ". That said the gauge looks very good. The chimney of that height being only a single flue would not be a great idea. Although you would get away with it with a lesser aerial without any problems. I do recommend cutting slots in the sections and using hoseclamps along with one screw for the sections, as the holes wear oval over a year or so. I currently use a vector 4000 which has so far proven well in the last two years. (I had a 2012 in the 90's. Many of us did, as they proved themselves then apart from radials falling off. Used to be attached with alun key and a brass bung up the end.) I have been a CB operator since 1990, continually. Although FM is more my thing, and likewise, I have stuff here that I have had for decades now. I like to purchase something new every couple of years to stimulate the market. Unfortunately I usually graduate back to the York 869 fm cb. Best regards, Tim H T in nuneaton Warwickshire. PS, nice rig. Seen a couple of those to for silly money on eBay lately. I generally prefer old cybernet rigs.

      Hi, Glad you managed to sort your access out again. Thanks for the background info on the 2016 very intersting stuff. The 1.5" poles are not the normal there the extra thick ones so have a bit more strangth to them to the usual ones you can get. I have been watching the aerial in the string winds (had storm two nughts back) and it hardly moves whichg is great. Hope you having a good christmas and all the best for the new year.

    Hey great video, your video inspired me to order the 2016, what are your thoughts on height above a metal roof? i know the higher the better but how high for a minimum? 73s from the U.S.A.

      Many thanks glad it helped u make up your mind, i think they are a great aerial. Mine sticks about 5 feet above the roof when viewed from front of house and i am on a hill, so the higher you can get it the better but make sure it well secured the higher you go. I do a yearly update and will be uploading it soon so if you gavent done so hit subscribe and the updates button and it will notify you each time a new video posted. All the best from the U.K , regards Mark

    I've got the Sirio 2020. What's the length of your coax? I find that having a "bad length" effects swr. Also height above ground changed swr.

    • @britishcbradio1055
      @britishcbradio1055  Рік тому

      Hi Length of coax is approx 20metres, length of coax not a prob for me as aerial center of house i at one end so have to have a fairly decent run. Height shouldnt affect it unless it near other metal, mine not that high and has good swr across Lo’s, mids and highs. Being doing another yearly up date on aerial very soon as the year has gone so quick, happy DX!!! 👍

    Hi I’m looking at buying a good cb antenna for my old 40 channel are the sigma antenna a good job or is there better out there. Looks like a pretty complicated antenna. I live on the side of a mountain with a clear view for 50!miles

    • @britishcbradio1055
      @britishcbradio1055  3 роки тому +1

      Hi Marcus If you on the side of a mountain, with that sort of height any antenna will do well. Things you should consider are:-
      1. Your budget.
      2. Size of antenna / possible problematic neighbours.
      3. Can you put it up ok and what options are available.
      4. method of mounting it to house, or tower or extra poles etc required.
      5. What do you want it for, local work, dx or both?
      6. How much power you gong to be putting through it.
      7. Weather will it be hammered by the wind.
      By Sigma antenna assuming you mean a Sigma 4 style, these are now known as 'Vector 4000', suggest having a look at some reviews on the antenna first, it is a big antenna and a real beast to put up, so you would need to consider all of the above first, that aside they are a good antenna but I have heard some concerns about the build quality. So don't rush into it do your research and you will end up with the right antenna. Good luck and let me know what you get in the end.

      try to build a moxon beam. They are fairly compact, some people use tent poles and very thin wire but if you can make the main part of the radials that are parallel to each other of a larger diameter it can help a bit. Height above objects always helps, you will need a way to rotate it, either with a rotator or by hand. If you look, there are charts and calculators. If you can only find 10M and 12M on the chart then just take the half way values as the lengths for 11M

    Hi Mark do you still have the sirio 2106 ? I've just brought 1 works bloody well here my mate says my signal has increased by at least 3 s points which is really good for me . Previous antenna was a venom half wave which worked well aswell. Just out of interest do you think the ground planes make any difference in your opinion ?

    • @britishcbradio1055
      @britishcbradio1055  Рік тому +1

      Hi yes the 2016 is still going strong and dx’ing. I would definitely run it with the radials as thats how it was made for the performance stated, cant say if they make a difference or not as only ever run it with them on, its a cracking antenna so u will definitely enjoy your dx! 👍 nice one.

    • @izzzzzz6
      @izzzzzz6 Рік тому

      I have the sirio 2020 it has 20x radials. The more radials you add the shorter they can be made. The idea is to simulate a copper disc as a ground or counterpoise. You probably won't find a 2020 now, perhaps an old one for spares, only the base is different to a 2016 having more holes for the radials. I had 2 original sigma IV but my dad threw them away! Arhhhh

    Hi,Ive purchased a 2016 last week and noticed I’m missing the SWR tuning tip that the grub screw goes into.I’m now going to have to try and make the tuning tip myself.Can you recall how much of the SWR tip is above its seating position on the last section.Cheers Jerry

      I think in the video he said the distance above the grub screw, was it 318 mm? Either way, the instructions give you a good idea. If you don't have the upper rod (with the egg whisk on😊) add about 1.5 - 2 inches to compensate for the missing length. Use hose clips for assembly so as the sections don't come loose too. Best revards, Tim HT from Warwickshire . Happy New year too.🙂

      Thanks for the reply.I’ve got the top section with whisk type thing on the top but the collar it slides into on the other section is missing.I was going to use a 8mm socket on top and drill and tap it instead but I think your suggestion is easier and better.
      I’ll make a cut in the section and clamp with a hose clamp.
