All of the Ham International service manuals I have contain errors, which are quite misleading and confusing. The Multimode II service manual is probably the worst. Even the service data on the Ham International web site reflects those errors. Time someone sorted this problem out, it's only been 40 years after all!!!. BTW set the gate time to 0.1 on the Black Star, saves a lot of faff time.
@@gb5uq They probably never thought the sets still be around in 40 years👍 thanks for tip on gate time i give it a try👍

Hello my friend, I am looking for the secondary voltage on the two windings, I think 300v for one and 6v for the other can you confirm? in my amp the transformer is short circuited and starts to burn when the power is switched on.
@@galinouz6404 i would replace the four diodes, probably one of those has failed.

How high do the ground plane radials have to be above the roof of the house?
@@jgmopar not sure there is a set height, i used the rules:-they are not near anything metal and high enough not to hit roof, hope that helps.
@@britishcbradio1055 I am thinking about getting one of those antennas. I am running a Solarcon A99 right now. It does Good but I want to try the 5/8 wave antenna that is aluminum and not fiberglass. I don't have anything metal near the area I would use it so I think i would be good to go.

ive got 2 of these at the minute one is putting out around 30w with 4w in and the other just blows the fuses when switched on so im going to do the same as you and probably replace all the components on the boards. i know 3 of the tubes are good. i dont suppose you have a list of all the components on the board at all so i can get them ordered? if not ill take one apart over the weekend and get an order together. cheers
@@jasonc4696 on the internet you will find the schematic that lists the parts / values, but watch video as some parts i found to be different, be extremely careful going inside one of these as they contain lethal voltages inside, if no electrical background i would advise not to go inside, be careful
I reconditioned one of these. Upgrade the wire from the pl259 centre pin to the coil ! Mine is up at 12M to the base. Works well.
@@izzzzzz6 Good tip to know, thanks for sharing 👍
It works well with GP 476A 6v battery
Everything will look much logical, if you admit that you killed these capacitors in your attempt to de-solder them for a test. And the only true problem this was a broken wire at the battery compartment. I have my unit for 34 years, capacitors measure within in specifications for 85C units. Police and other organizations now using digital modulation, OMEGA 4998 this is still good for VHF - CB - FM which these still using analog modulation.
@@Kiriakos.T_Greece why would desoldering capacitors kill them??? You need to read up in electrinics my friend! 😂

Hi, I have one that I bought in 1983 but it's a Maxcom 7, do you know what the difference is compared to yours which is a Maxcom7E? Looking at it in the video they look absolutely the same. Greetings from Italy
Hi, i have searched but can find no info or record of a maxcom 7, it may be the same as the 7E but just called a 7 in Italy. Is it all working, if you need any pics etc of a particular area of the board if you repairing it let me know and i will see if i can help . 👍 regards Mark
@@britishcbradio1055 Thank you for your interest and prompt reply. Fortunately, my device still works perfectly. Mine was just curiosity, in fact it seems that only the 7E can be found on the web. @@GrandeCapo_PallaPesante yes ours is on 27.60125mhz to 27.99125mhz (ch1-40) so the E is probably for the different frequencies which are special uk ones.

Hey great video, your video inspired me to order the 2016, what are your thoughts on height above a metal roof? i know the higher the better but how high for a minimum? 73s from the U.S.A.
Many thanks glad it helped u make up your mind, i think they are a great aerial. Mine sticks about 5 feet above the roof when viewed from front of house and i am on a hill, so the higher you can get it the better but make sure it well secured the higher you go. I do a yearly update and will be uploading it soon so if you gavent done so hit subscribe and the updates button and it will notify you each time a new video posted. All the best from the U.K , regards Mark

Never owned a k40 as yet even back in the 80’s always had firestick or similar type 3/8th type mounted stuff but knew a few people with thr k40 and seemed to perform pretty well for what it was and those amstrad radios I avoided like the plauge they just looked a bit too flimsy and the fairy light meter looked a bit gimmicky for me so I tended to stick with midland bleed over boxes instead untill i went ssb and got a 148 cobra
Hi Philip welocme to the channel, thanks for the comment. I have a 7ft genuine firestik I really must get on the go as they are a great aerial, the K40 works very well Iand pleased with it. I have to say the Amstrad works well too as the bands are fairly quiet today so rarely any bleedover now which is good. Take care and all the best, Mark

You can also put in a switch to switch between the speaker and a 8 ohm 10 watt wire wound resistor that will act as a audio dummy load. Could be another video for you on how to make simple easy test equipment!!.

Looks great. Been looking for a Good antenne after having some bad ones. Can I ask Did you use tape (self fusing tape) to seal the joints of the sections? Have the Sirio GPV with plastic " weather proof " sleeves. But they dont keep rain or moisture out. I want to know if this Sirio 2016 needs the tape. I really want to purchase this antenna. Not another failure. Of bad recieving. And the Sirio 2016 seems to tick all the boxes.
