johnplayer420 i have a similar thought whenever i watch a demo and someone says something along the lines of “this is what this pedal sounds like” and proceeds to treat that sound as the only thing that pedal can do (regardless of amp type, pickups, guitar amp settings, etc)
Hell, yeah. It can't have MIDI, but must have some rectangular push buttons to do some routing and pedal order. Somehow, Mick's choices need to be made painfully obvious by coordinating light colors for the foot switches. It will need to cost twice as much as the G2. It must also have valve buffers that are switchable and must be visible - oh, yeah, and a reverb tank.

I have yet to try the Saturn VI, but I can confidently say that their previous version, the Saturn V, is not only my favorite pedal, but one of the best pedals ever made.
What's not to love about running a gritty low gain overdrive into a ZVEX SHO? Spaceman seems to use the SHO type circuit in a lot of pedals, and it's a really smart thing to do. It's why I have a SHO at both ends of my board.
I LOVE the D1. Probably the best delay I've ever owned, and that includes a pile of big-box EHX DMMs, a Roland 201, and a Roland 501. Just amazing musical repeats. Sadly, it destroys the dry signal with a honky midrange and top-end roll-off. I so wish this weren't the case and don't understand why it is. Completely unnecessary for a digital delay to mess with the dry signal. If they insist, they should do it with an SDD-3000 style preamp, just saying ;) I had to say goodbye to mine. Hope they revise this otherwise beautiful delay.
I bought the Myriad fuzz when I was in Japan. It was the first fuzz pedal I have ever bought and man do I NOT regret that purchase. So good!! I plugged it in and within about 30 seconds I knew I was going to buy it. I had never spent more than 300 dollars on a pedal before that and I still did not hesitate.
Mick, I hope you play lots of that quieter stuff through something like the Saturn when I come to hear you play! It really clears my head of a lot of pedal cruft to hear just a balanced few gain stages and emotional playing. Dan, your playing through the Retrovibe was sweet as. Similarly hope you have lots of quieter stuff in your set. You two are really inspiring me to noodle 😊
A while back, you guys demoed the ProAnalog devices mk4 which is also a combination of fuzz/overdrive (Germanium/transistor). While tone is as subjective a preference as it gets, I find it far superior to the vemuram. It's on my wish list and I highly recommend you give it another listen. In a market SATURATED with thousands of great pedals it manages to shine and do something very different and unique.
As far as I can discern, the Feel knob on Myriad works in conjunction with the Bias... You set the main bias for the Ge transistor depending on the day (temp etc) and your mood/need and the Feel is kind of an additional bias swing on top so you can move between fat and spit sounds... I could be wrong but that’s been my experience. Great sounding fuzz - I do wish it went lower in gain tho..kinda starts at 11
I love 11 lol I know what you mean though. About to pick one up myself. Love the super thick fuzz. I did the whole fuzz clean up thing for a while but I’d rather use my Vemuram Jan Ray for that sound. The TSV808 is absolutely incredible too. I sold a few pedals for it and broke even. I really am starting to prefer Vemuram almost any other pedal manufacturer. They build pedals that bring out the sound I hear in my head. Can’t ask for more than that. I’d rather buy one or two Vemuram’s than 7-8 pedals which I don’t fall in love with and are just decent or good, not great.
Jordan Dangelo Yeah..they’re pretty amazing. I’ve got 3 Vems now. Shanks 4K, 2, and Jan Ray...which fit nicely with my 3 Kingsley’s - Minstrel, Harlot, and Page. Yum yum. I wish I could have kept Myriad but yeah I couldn’t get it to clean up how I wanted.. I’m not a super high-gain guy...but can def get some fat sustain outta my above combos à la Hendrix/Eric Johnson etc. 🤘🏼
I think the comparison that needs to be made is the D1 and the DD-200... These two have a pretty comparable feature set, in that they are very simple interface with lots of good options, but I would be interested to see how they compare in terms of fidelity and tone. Obviously there are different specific sounds in each the other can't do, but it would still make an interesting comparison
Before your fuzz episode the other week all I'd ever had was a little big muff and always left it off my board. I do have a hudson broadcast but use the low gain setting as a nearly always on thing. Then... Last week I got a moose electronics Nomad... Its Irish made... I've never seen or heard of Irish made pedals but there you go. It's a two button fuzz one side is fuzz with a knob to reintroduce the clean signal into it. It also has clipping option switches and then the other side is a footswitchable octave.... ITS INSANE...why has it taken me so long to get into fuzz? Now that vemuram.... I WANT IT.... The GAS will cost me my sanity aaaaaaaaaaaarrrrrgghhhhh!
I don’t know guys. I have come to appreciate fuzz and how to use it properly due to watching you. But when it comes to Vemuram I have to throw my hands up and say I give up. I just can’t imagine it sounding that much better than my Fulltone 69 & 70 for the money. I actually bought both of them for less than I can buy the Myriad. I just can’t see putting over $400 into a single function pedal. And I’m not shy when it come to spending money on pedals. I bought a Revival Drive Custom w/footswitch. But that thing does a lot.
I'm hoping you end up with the Fat 60s in Blue, because i have a sonic blue strat with nitro finish, mint guard, and RW fretboard and i just put fat 60s in it. this way we can trade anytime you want!
Guys love you both and the show... I think you need to have a good hour on Catalinbread Effects... the DLS and Epoch and Echorec are AWESOME... then there is the Gallieo and the Zero Flange...
Mick. Vintage strat of your choice with the Amp of your choice. Pick one of each: tube screamer or fuzz face, harmonic trem or tape delay. for the rest of your days...what say you? I'm guessing fuzz and harm trem.
Taking a vintage Tone Bender out of the picture...The Vemuram Myriad Josh Smith Fuzz is the best fuzz I’ve ever heard. It may be better than the Tone Bender due to its high level of versatility. I’m just not saying this because I own one. I own one because of how great it is. I’ve owned many fuzzes and sold many fuzzes but I went from about 15 fuzz pedals down to 2. The Mythos Golden Fleece and the Vemuram Myriad Fuzz.
Having purchased several fuzz pedals over the last two years to find fuzz tones that suit my semi-acoustic fiddle, after hearing Mick’s awesome demonstration of the Vemuram I have come to the conclusion the best thing I can do is to cut up my credit card! P.S. Meanwhile I recently bought a Jam Retrovibe and it is a ripper of a pedal.
Great show! I love all those pedals. Glad you topped off with the Fuzz first, and spent some time there. LOVE that Fuzz! If I were a rich man, I would have one in my toy chest NOW! I generally play through a Tweed Deluxe clone, and that Saturn boost would be an amazing fit? The Jam Vibe has a lovely sound and range. Walrus pedals always sound Pro, and good. Very deep and trippy pedal. Mick, that Strat...what a generous loaner. Obviously, an absolutely amazing guitar. It always sounds jaw dropping fantastic...shake my head every time I hear it. So good through all those pedals. Always love hearing it in your show. -- 5th or 6th times watching this episode...Myriad Fuzz is a sickness! Going to have to dump some pedals and get one?
I have the fuzz. Sold a few pedals I wasn’t using on Reverb and I had it! Try it if that’s an option for you. There’s always so many new, better sounding pedals hitting the market that it’s worth it to get rid of the old and try the new. One amazing fuzz is better than 3 OK fuzz pedals.
Thanks for the response. I have been using the Jesse Davies Kingtone Mini Ge for a bit, and it’s a really great Fuzz! It can cover a lot of ground, and sounds really good. The Myriad is still one of those dream Fuzz pedals. I’ve never seen a demo where it didn’t kill? Every Fuzz has a personality, but it’s true what you say. Once you find a great Fuzz, other ones don’t get as much play? 😬 Zvex Fuzz Factory, EQD Hoof Reaper, JHS Pollinator V2, DOD Carcosa...could easily get me over the finish line, But I’m sure I would have sellers remorse? I’ll have to keep saving.
I think we need a special show that is “drinking with Dan and Mick”. Have some drinks and share some stories. I think most would agree that Sharing a virtual pint (or 6) with you guys is a bucket list item!
The brief element of Sunshine of Your Love forces me to mention the Keeley Psi, which also mixes op-amp and germanium. With a paintjob looking like a Cream album cover and one of the knobs actually labeled Cream, you know what Mr. Keeley was aiming for, and I think he nailed it. It appears to be discontinued, but it's readily available used at a reasonable price.
This trip to the store to by a vemuram myriad and an ods 1 to go along side the jan ray and the 70 or so other pedals featured on the show that I couldn’t resist is going to hurt.
Maybe add a JHS unicorn in the mix for the Univibe comparison? PS: i went Diving in the Maldives, I Dove in Egypt, i have dived in Sydney Harbour and the Great Barrier Reef and i want to dive in many other places - but i have been diverted from doin so - ok i will see myself out now...
I love pedal jams, and have a wish for future ones: OKKO Diablo GH, Gregory Hilden Signature, boost and overdrive, has lots of features you should demo & try. RR
This might get a mixed response, but i can't believe I haven't thought about this in the years I've been following the channel: gigrig has built in buffer, why don't you always leave one on at the end of the chain (or after any sensitive fuzzes anyway), or at least enable it only for the dry sound? That should give you a better starting ground to tell if any "top end sparkle" is due to the pedal frequency response or just the fact that there's an active circuit between the guitar and the amp
That Mako D1 sounds great, but I finding myself lost after listening to the real tape delay units. Is it just my ears or do they sound THAT much better than the replica pedals!? Mick's comments on the last Viewer Q&A confirm it - it's like there's a blanket over the echos. CHALK AND DAY!
In addition, I also can't believe the difference a real DMM has over new analog delay pedals. And what about the original Korg SD3000 and TC 2290 rack delays against the new digital delays? Again, could just be my ears and a subjective take, but there's a lot of jam in those old units! Maybe there's a TPS show in there somewhere? Does the phrase: "They don't make 'em like they used to" actually hold true? Ruined.
The processor is the walrus pedal is indeed a SHARC processor, and the Shortfin Mako is the fastest shark there is. Basically, boasting how fast the processor is
Walrus has confirmed that there isn't analog dry through. Full signal is digital to allow for 100% wet. Considering how good it sounds, does it seem reason to be put off these days?
Lazarus101 I really prefer analog dry through myself, which is why the ECCOS has me mostly interested for my next delay, but those Mako sounds were sure amazing.
That Pedal Show that’s right. Forgot about that! Bummer. They say it’s so the effect can go full wet, but my Strymon El Capistan is analog dry through and goes full wet. I’m curious why some pedal makers go with a digital signal over analog dry through.
Personally, unless I specifically intend to mess with my dry tone (say by using a Lofi digital effect), I prefer my dry tone to be untouched, and so this is why I’ll likely go with the ECCOS. It also has a looper that could mean I can ditch my Ditto looper and save some pedalboard real estate.
Vemuram has made some simple and classic style pedals, but this is at the edge of me getting scared. Similar to those pedals with crazy amount of dip-switches, two bias adjustments (by screwdriver to make it more effort in brain and in a sense, more permanent) for the transistors that are intertwined in their workings is getting to the territory of option paralysis. Like "what if I turn this knob or even better, these two or three knobs" and it changes the sound to something nice, but then if you adjust the bias to another spot (or both biases and also change the relation) and find a new sweet spot, then you're facing the problem of "which do I like more, if I choose this bias, I can't adjust it on the fly for another use". I don't know if you guys feel this way, but this might be the root of my problem with too many adjustments or internal/screwdriver pots. If there's only a couple adjustments that are seemingly separate or have some kind of hierarchy (like volume, gain and eq are still easily comprehensible and have such a relation that for example adjusting the eq after you have your gain and volume set doesn't change the whole character of the pedal). These adjustments don't have a similar hierarchy and pose an optimisation problem that can't be solved by calculation, but just by taste. The bias of either changes how you want your gain and one bias might have an effect where you want to adjust the other bias and so on and so on. Of course it's mostly just making it overcomplicated in brain, where in reality you'd just screw a bit, adjust the face controls and be happy with the sound. Is how you should do it. But brain is bad. And in reality the first impression panic is way overreacting, the adjustments are significantly different from each other and rather serve almost as individual character options. And the sound is ace.
That Vemuram Fuzz is awe inspiring. Can you do a Behringer fuzz, Fuzz face, Kangra , comparison with this ... I want to feel what the increase in cash gets me for tone . What was happening at 27:59 Fuzz boost in the overheads spiking
I know you guys aren't doom or metal in anyway.... but when testing a fuzz... just plug in the les paul and play some thick/gross chords. Maybe even have something detuned standing by. Super simple and everyone will greatly appreciate it. thanks for an otherwise great show as always.
Epic fuzz sculpture Mick! I assume you gotta have that Vemuram, BUT..check out the Yellowcake Furry Burrito, does basically the same thing, just as epic, yet half the price. Just gold!!
The myriad fuzz sounds amazing, but the bias control would be better as an actual control on the pedal itself. Otherwise you have to take a tiny screwdriver with you, should you wish to tweak it.
Yeah £400 for a pedal that needs screwdriver.. the Jessy Davey Kingtone Mini Fuzz is just as good, half the price and that option is where it should be.. on the top! Vemuram are the emperors new clothes.. good sound but massively overpriced and there are better options out there. IMHO
Anyone that loves that fuzz but doesn't want to spend £390 on a fuzz pedal should try Jessey Davies King Tone Fuzz mini, sounds very similar to that with the same features pretty much. Yes the king Tone is still £259, that's still a lot cheaper.
Why is it that when I'm in the market for a cool new reverb pedal that builders keep putting out awesome delays one after another? I swear, if I were looking for a delay there would be nothing but cool reverbs coming out. So I guess after I buy the Walrus Mako D1 I can go back to looking for reverbs.
I have the (what would now be the MKI) Retro Vibe and can only give it thumbs up. For me sounds best before normal drive pedals although I do have it after a fuzz face, so it is sandwiched between a fuzz face and a Maxon Vintage OD - I get those lovely vibey (?) Feedback sounds...
As pedal freaks why you never show some of Castledine products? I bet they will top most of the products on your channel. His vibe is the tone we all have in imagination.
Here's an idea for a show...How to get fuzz tones without a fuzz pedal. I was blending the top boost and normal channels on my AC15 last night, and with the RC Booster with both switches on and boost from Empress Para EQ, I got a pleasant, tame fuzz like tone. Something nastier should be possible if I push the low mids.
Gday Nicholas here from Adelaide fellas, Question 1: I currently have a handwired AC4 with a 12 inch greenback in it and am struggling to get a good sound, what are your thoughts on higher wattage amps with lower watt modes, is it a gimmick or do the lower watt settings work well? I’m just not saying this because I own one. I own one because of how great it is. I’ve owned many fuzzes and sold many fuzzes but I went from about 15 fuzz pedals down to 2. The Mythos Golden Fleece and the Vemuram Myriad Fuzz.
Retrovibe FTW. Mick, you are the one who convinced me to go JAM in my search for a no-frills incredible sounding univibe.
Great work, as always!
My goodness, Mick!! That opening was intense!
Thank you!
I've never heard you check out an MXR Shin Juku drive. My favorite drive, I bet you'd love it.
You have the Victory V140 and the Matchless HC-30. I make do with the Fender Pro Jr. and the Vox AC4C1. But I still love my sound.

5th or 6th times watching this episode...Myriad Fuzz is a sickness!
That SG/LP sounded insaaaaaane with the fuzz
Uhhhhh....Well.. the Vemuram Myriad Fuzz is now, officially the best overdrive, the best distorsion AND the best Fuzz I have ever heard!
I think we need a special show that is “drinking with Dan and Mick”. Have some drinks and share some stories. I think most would agree that Sharing a virtual pint (or 6) with you guys is a bucket list item!
I SECOND THAT!!
I THIRD THAT!!!
I’m in for this, too.
I’m in, I’ll get the next virtual round then
@@southpaw335 😂🍻
Dan excels at coaxing out the more depraved grit with fuzz. He could be an always-on, full-tilt fuzz player.
Blue sounds awesome
The brief element of Sunshine of Your Love forces me to mention the Keeley Psi, which also mixes op-amp and germanium. With a paintjob looking like a Cream album cover and one of the knobs actually labeled Cream, you know what Mr. Keeley was aiming for, and I think he nailed it. It appears to be discontinued, but it's readily available used at a reasonable price.
That first Jam pedal sound immediately made me think of Rod Stewart’s Atlantic crossing album. nice!
This trip to the store to by a vemuram myriad and an ods 1 to go along side the jan ray and the 70 or so other pedals featured on the show that I couldn’t resist is going to hurt.
I really have to learn what Mick does at 5:40 it's a revelation to me. A spitty fuzz will be perfect with my jam delay Llama in my wet/wet rig
Mick’s in the ZONE! Love that retro vibe
Jamming was great, keep on!
Mick that Strat is " Sick " - you did it. I prefer the Fuzz Face with the guitar volume rolled-down. That's the Tone of the Gods.
Pretty sure Mick said in VCQs that this was filmed before his pickup swap
@@chrismccarter6875 right. this and Friday's video are the old pickups (SD Antiquity Texas Hot N & M and SSL-5 "Custom Staggered" in the bridge).
I love pedal jams, and have a wish for future ones: OKKO Diablo GH, Gregory Hilden Signature, boost and overdrive, has lots of features you should demo & try. RR
What a phat arse groove!! So Massive Attack!! Trippy and hoppy, but with ace axe finesse. Fantastic.
When you spotlight it, the Vemuram still blends into the shadows. I have a little dog friend who does that. 🐕
Both dived and dove are correct, it's like sneaked and snuck. Both are right, but one is more formal. :)
That myriad fuzz sounds insaaane
This might get a mixed response, but i can't believe I haven't thought about this in the years I've been following the channel: gigrig has built in buffer, why don't you always leave one on at the end of the chain (or after any sensitive fuzzes anyway), or at least enable it only for the dry sound? That should give you a better starting ground to tell if any "top end sparkle" is due to the pedal frequency response or just the fact that there's an active circuit between the guitar and the amp
Man, you guys seem super impressed Vemuram. I know they're different animals, which blew you away more, the Shanks or the Myriad?
i bloody love that sunburst tho!
Basically, boasting how fast the processor is
Best Pedal Jams yet, bois
Love it, please do a Hiwatt video like this. With all the great fx and things .
( Also any Kt88 amps you bump into also )
Walrus has confirmed that there isn't analog dry through. Full signal is digital to allow for 100% wet. Considering how good it sounds, does it seem reason to be put off these days?
Lazarus101 I really prefer analog dry through myself, which is why the ECCOS has me mostly interested for my next delay, but those Mako sounds were sure amazing.
Mono. Not so much. Sounds pretty good I’d say. Mick here. But wet/dry is going to be a problem. Latency = phase issues. Arrrrrrgghhhhh!!!!
That Pedal Show that’s right. Forgot about that! Bummer. They say it’s so the effect can go full wet, but my Strymon El Capistan is analog dry through and goes full wet. I’m curious why some pedal makers go with a digital signal over analog dry through.
As another El Cap owner I'm also curious. This seems to be the perfect delay but I was also intending to move into a wet/dry setup...
What was happening at 27:59 Fuzz boost in the overheads spiking
really enjoyed Dan’s descent into drone metal at 41:45, maybe next you can get Sunn o))) on the show!
Mick: my shirt has a hole under the armpit.
Also Mick: 5:42
What a sound from the vemuram!! Top mounted jacks and it will be the perfection!! 👍👍 Any chance to see the Dan Drive fuzzes on a pedal jam???
I know you guys aren't doom or metal in anyway.... but when testing a fuzz... just plug in the les paul and play some thick/gross chords. Maybe even have something detuned standing by. Super simple and everyone will greatly appreciate it. thanks for an otherwise great show as always.
Epic fuzz sculpture Mick! I assume you gotta have that Vemuram, BUT..check out the Yellowcake Furry Burrito, does basically the same thing, just as epic, yet half the price. Just gold!!
I like the Vemuram much.... but I like my old Fuzz Face too. And the Secret Machine I just got from Dan Drive. Need them all!
Excited, just booked my tickets for the Timmons do in Witney. Be great to see you all!
Can’t wait Ed, we’ll see you there :)
That Pedal Show it’s gonna be awesome. No doubt about it. Who cares what the wife thinks 😂
The myriad fuzz sounds amazing, but the bias control would be better as an actual control on the pedal itself. Otherwise you have to take a tiny screwdriver with you, should you wish to tweak it.
if anything the feel knob should be associated with the Ge instead
Yeah £400 for a pedal that needs screwdriver.. the Jessy Davey Kingtone Mini Fuzz is just as good, half the price and that option is where it should be.. on the top! Vemuram are the emperors new clothes.. good sound but massively overpriced and there are better options out there. IMHO
@@geoffnightingale9290 If Stonedeaf can do a bias control on the Fig Fumb at £130 and get that range, this should too.
I think that access to the control without opening the case is a positive feature. ymmv
Anyone that loves that fuzz but doesn't want to spend £390 on a fuzz pedal should try Jessey Davies King Tone Fuzz mini, sounds very similar to that with the same features pretty much. Yes the king Tone is still £259, that's still a lot cheaper.
The blue/urine coloured strat sounds flipping amazing
Yin and yang right there. We are all one with the piss and shit.
My first reaction: "Mick sounds great." then to "WOW! That pedalboard looks positively naked!":-)
Walrus Phaser is great but more subtle. Would be cool to hear next to the JAM.
That jam at the end was great! Are you going to do a whole album of Psychedelic-Jazz-Adult Film grooves someday?
I have the (what would now be the MKI) Retro Vibe and can only give it thumbs up. For me sounds best before normal drive pedals although I do have it after a fuzz face, so it is sandwiched between a fuzz face and a Maxon Vintage OD - I get those lovely vibey (?) Feedback sounds...
That’s the way to do it Richie!
Something nastier should be possible if I push the low mids.
i have reverb on my amp so add a wah to these pedals and i would be very very happy with that rig!!
Mick puts a new meaning to "FUZZ FACE"
Love to see Kevin Parker on your show, please try I’f he’s ever in town
Gday Nicholas here from Adelaide fellas,
Question 1:
I currently have a handwired AC4 with a 12 inch greenback in it and am struggling to get a good sound, what are your thoughts on higher wattage amps with lower watt modes, is it a gimmick or do the lower watt settings work well?
Question 2:
Dan do you have any tips on chasing the tone of Ian Moss of Cold Chisel or know anything about his gear as I’m struggling to find info online, by the way Mick, if you haven’t heard of him yet I think you’ll love his work
Thanks guys love your stuff
